Chapter 9

(Febuary 20th 2017 A.T.B)

The final bell at Ashford rang clear, alerting all to the release of high strung students. Kallen took her time. She had no interest in returning to her so called home and besides things proved to be much more interesting here.

In just a few short weeks the Student Council became a family to her, Britannian or not. They allowed her to enjoy herself. She could smile when she wished, could laugh whenever she felt like it, but mostly they didn't judge her. Milly proved herself when she visited her house last week.

She discovered she was a 'filthy half breed' but the President didn't care. Milly saw her as a good person and swore herself to secrecy. If only there were more such people in the world.

Her second live was shaping up quite nicely as well. With Zero in command the Black Knights of Japan were better than ever. They're guerrilla tactics were coming back without any casualties on their side, the Britannians not so much. And the people. Walking through the empty halls Kallen remembered all the channels showing his speech or a faction proclaiming their loyalty.

'Ever since we made our big splash at the hotel-jacking, the Black Knights have taken Japan by storm. We've become a friend to the weak, just as Zero proclaimed we would. Terrorists who involve civilians, an overbearing military, criminal syndicates, corrupt politicians and profiteers; if the law would not punish them, then we would. In the blink of an eye, we'd become heroes.' A public hanging here, a message in blood there. The people knew what they were trying to do and they loved it.

'Support for us has swelled, and we've even gotten our hands on some high quality knightmares again. Of course, no one could show that in public, because... Because our leader Zero killed Prince Clovis.' He said it loud and clear to the whole world. He had no fear of death and that's what drew others to him. That unyielding confidence.

'There are many in our ranks who wish to know his true identity, myself included. But if we push too hard, I suspect that he would vanish. And without him... I'm fairly certain we'd be finished.' And there's no telling what Lord Hellsing would do. Zero was a famous high ranking general who only answered to the Lord herself. No one knew where he came from only that he loathed Britannian.

Stopping Kallen steadied herself on the wall as the late night ambushes caught up to her. "Man, this double life sure is a killer." She said to herself letting out a yawn.

"Come on, Walter, hold her down!" Milly's voice came out muffled from one of the closed doors followed by an angry shout of the secret leader of the world largest terrorist organization. "Damn it, Walter, unhand me this instant!"

Curiosity overcoming reason she approached the Student Council room where the threats kept pouring out. "Dam you, when I get out of here I'll break you in half!"

"Apologies, my lady, but orders are orders." He said, not sounding apologetic at all.

Opening the door Kallen just stared in confusion at the scene before her.

Nina was typing at her computer wearing a strange striped hat and tiger paws. Walter, Milly, and Rivalz were all dressed in cat costumes and were currently struggling with a defiant Lelouch. The raven haired girl had presently been tied to a chair and was currently struggling to get out even as a pair of cat ears was pinned to her head.

"Yeah, like you're not enjoying this at all?!" Lelouch accused.

In the few shadows of the room a certain vampire laughed at the situation his young master was forced into. 'This world is truly amusing.'

"Would you hold still?!" Shirley asked purple eyeliner at the ready.

Noticing the open door Milly turned to face their newcomer with a smile. "Good meowning." She waved her hand in a cat like manner. Her outfit consisted of a single piece black cat suit that acted as a long sleeve swimsuit. A pair of black cat ears were perched on her head as her hands were covered by matching paw styled gloves.

"Good…morning, I guess." Kallen answered slowly still confused. Maybe she should take Kaname's advice. "What is all this?"

While Lelouch was standing still Shirley was trying to apply the eye shadow dressed in a two piece red cat suit showing her stomach with a bell collar.

The brown full body suited Rival was the first to speak, maintaining his hold on his captive. "What do you mean? It's our welcome party for Arthur."

Said cat yawned from his personal tree. The black cat created quite the disturbance when it arrived on campus. This included breaking into the school to find Kallen and sitting on her desk, then proceeded to have a staring contest with the confused red head. After a minute he grew bored and curled up on her desk ready to take a nap. When the teacher tried to grab him he darted out the door with impossible speed. He sent the entire school on a wild goose chase until Milly caught him in the garden. The poor thing was nearly crushed to death between her bosom. So many nose bleeds.

After which she proclaimed the mischievous feline as the school's mascot. He's been treated like a king ever since. He seemed to take a liking to Nina even though she occasionally cringed when he jumped on her computer it didn't stop him from trying to comfort her when she got nervous. That alone put him as a school favorite.

"Sounds like fun." Kallen said hesitantly. That cat made her uneasy, like it knew something it shouldn't. But he was sweet…

Milly chuckled at Kallen's response. "Well, classes are postponed. We might as well have some fun, right?" The idiots who ran the school, admit poorly but at acceptable levels, were called to a mandatory meeting for emergency evacuation preparations or some crap. She wasn't paying attention.

"We set some stuff aside for you over here." Shirley pointed to a rack of the several remaining costumes and two boxes of accessories. "Take your pick."

"What? For me?" Kallen pointed to herself in confusion. She'd never been invited to a party that didn't involve hundreds of rules and itchy dresses. Where men didn't try to woe her for her family's status then throw a fit when she said no.

"She doesn't need a costume." All eyes pointed to a smirking Lelouch. During the talking Shirley managed to do her eye shadow and two whisker like marks on both cheeks.

"What?" Kallen asked, not sure what she meant.

"You're already wearing a mask, right?" With that face she looked more like a fox than a cat.

Glaring, she sarcastically replied. "You really are a riot, you know that? You ought to be on television." Superior her ass, no one talks to her that way.

"What do you think, Ms. TV Star?" Rivalz asked Shirley.

Signing she paused in applying Lelouch's makeup. The case was closed with a loud snap. "Would you quit joking about that?! The whole thing's a huge pain in the butt! We've been hounded with questions day and night! Even in the bath!"

"We haven't been able to leave school grounds in a week!" Milly complained. And for someone who lived seeing knew things with the crushing knowledge her freedom would one day be snatched away this was a nightmare. Foreboding a greater horror.

Wedded bliss with some pompous noble.

"Not that I don't feel for you, but I don't see why we can't leave either!" Rivalz asked, not that he minded sleeping in the same room as beautiful women. He was a dude. He needed his space.

"Hmm, that's the price of friendship. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms: 'It matters not that we were born apart. Upon this day, we die as one.'" Milly recited arms crossed.

"Is that your idea of a love quote?" Rivalz asked slightly confused.

"If I go down, then we all do." Milly simplified, flicking her black tail at the bluenett.

"That's a little dark, right, Walter?" Rivalz turned to his fellow trouble maker.

"Hardly when it comes to the President next to humiliation morbid is the hottest trend."

At the lame joke everyone burst out laughing.

'It's funny to think that I helped save their lives.' Looking at the teens laughing without a care in the world Kallen smiled. Her smile lasted the rest of the day.

She picked out a simple one piece cat suit with matching ears. Listened and gave her opinions as gossip was exchanged. When Walter brought out the camera she posed with the others and brought Arthur down to join in the fun. It was the most fun she's had since watching the expressions of those Britannian morons at the hotel jacking.

Cornelia hated emergency wards. Even medical tents sent icy chills down her spine. No doubt stemming from the countless times she watched as good men died on those white bricks they called a mattress. Every time she walked through those halls she felt as if she should be writing a will with a funeral march playing in the background.

But this time was different. This time her officers were going to make it. Her proud warriors had only suffered minimal damage. Sadly the same couldn't be said for their knightmares, but they could always be replaced, good men could not.

"How is he?" She asked the doctor. A young man but one she had seen constantly through her many years.

"Sir Guilford is only a few days away from a full recovery Viceroy. But he should be able to partake in the raid tomorrow. The rest of the Glaston Knights are all set for duty, but I recommend them staying the night just to be safe."

"Excellent. Keep me updated on their status. If anything goes wrong I'm the first to know."

"Yes Viceroy." The doctor lowered his head as Cornelia's eyes roamed the identical lines. Coming to a stop at one carrying a very special patient.

Princess Euphemia survived the hotel jacking but not like the others. When Cornelia and her troops scanned the boats to make a final head count they found the third princess lying unconscious in one of the rafts accompanied by three high school girls.

"And while I'm here how is Sub Viceroy Euphemia?" Cornelia asked absent mindedly.

At the question the doctor tugged at his collar. He took a deep breath before he trusted himself enough to speak. "Well…that's where the good news comes to an end. Physically she's in perfect health; unfortunately the same can't be said for her mental status. The only explanation we have is that she saw something during the attack that forced her to into this state." Pictures of the Eleven terrorist's remain were taken a given to the higher ups or at least what was left that wasn't splattered on the walls. It was like a demon from Hell itself descended upon those fools and just started attacking anything that moved. She was right in the center of a slaughter. He'd seen soldier break down from less.

At the conclusion Cornelia slightly narrowed her eyes as possible cures came to mind. "It there anything you can do to wake her?"

"No, at least not without risking her life. If she wakes up before she's ready her mind could be permanently shattered." All they could do is wait and hope for the best.

Sometimes there are fights one can't win through brute force, but through patience. "I see well keep me posted."

Spinning on her heal Cornelia walked out of the depressing room. While it broke her heart to see another sibling in such a helpless state. 'Euphy, what happened to you?'

This land was cursed, no doubt. First Lelouch disappears, then Nunnally is found a shell of her former self, Isaac goes missing, Clovis is killed in cold blood, and now Euphy… Poor sweet Euphy was trapped in a coma.

Lost in thought she failed to notice a man standing in the shadows. A man wearing a blood stained lab coat and glasses with six lenses. A pleased smile stretched underneath as he took in the survivors of the attack.

No, attack was far too kind a word.

The vampire merely played with the soldiers. Much like a cat batting around a lizard until it got bored and started tearing off its limbs. Which left the pathetic woman scrambling about in her own mind to try and piece together an explanation for the unparalleled horror she'd just witnessed. Poor fräulein either she learns to accept the true despicable nature of this world or she will stay in a nightmare long after she opens her eyes.

Just a bit of filler and who doesn't love Arthur. The next chapter will be posted soon. Hopefully this will ensure my loyal readers I'm still committed to the story.
