A/N: Hey guys! I'm really sorry that I haven't updated in forever. Shit happened, aka school, and I got a job, so i've been kind of stressed. Anyway, enjoy the story!

The others heard a crash and the sound of something being thrown coming from Maria's office. Not to mention a blood curdling scream that Fury could hear all the way from his office, and Bruce and Betty could hear from the lab.

Steve, Natasha, and Clint were the first ones to respond to Maria's mental breakdown. Steve and the two assassins ran full speed to her office, nearly taking the door off it's hinges as they did so. They saw Maria curled up underneath her desk, tears falling down her face. You had to scare Maria pretty badly to warrant such a reaction.

"Hey, it's okay. You're okay." Steve assured her, kneeling down as he tried to coax her out from under her desk, but she refused to budge. Natasha and Clint still stood frozen in the doorway, unsure of what to do until the others, minus Tony, joined them to see Maria was inconsolable and Steve desperate to find out what was wrong.

Natasha was the first to notice the crumpled up note clenched in Maria's fist.

"Steve..." She said, trailing off as the super soldier looked at her before he followed her gaze to the other agents clenched fist. Steve felt his heart stop as he gently took the piece of paper out of Maria's clenched fist and unfolded it.

He read it three times before he passed it to Natasha and Clint, who in turn, after reading it, passed it to Fury. Both assassins were pissed.

"I'll send people to check up on Emily, Hill. And the children. As soon as possible." He said, reassuring her and the two assassins, "Captain, get Wilson and go with Agent Barton and Agents Carter and Anderson. Romanoff, get Stark down here as soon as possible." He added, turning to leave before a voice stopped him.

"I want to go too, Sir." Maria said. She was now out from under her desk and was her usual cool and collected self.

"No. I need you and Agent Romanoff with me. I'll need the two of you for debriefing and interrogations." Fury said gruffly, before he left the room and everyone else silently dispersed. Agents Hill and Romanoff following closely behind while Steve and Clint went in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, Emily sat at the kitchen table of her apartment with her friends Peter and Mary Jane, who were helping her study, while Lilith and Alexa sat on the floor drawing. After a while though, they gave up and started drawing too. Joining the children on the floor.

Alexa pointed at Emily's drawing of a duck.

"What is it, Lexa?" Emily asked, watching the girl in curiosity.

"Duck." Alexa stated, looking at Emily with her vibrant green eyes.

The three teenagers all stopped what they were doing and looked at the two-year-old with shocked expressions. Even Lilith looked surprised.

"Did she just...?" Mary Jane started, trailing off.

"I think she did." Peter agreed as Emily took out her phone and started recording Alexa.

"Hey Alexa! Look at Auntie Em! Can you say that again so I have proof for Mommy and Daddy?" Emily asked, not taking the phone away from the view of both children. Alexa pointed at Emily's drawing once more.

"D-Duck. Duck! Duck!" Alexa squealed in delight, making the three teens laugh.

"That's quite possibly the cutest thing ever." Emily said, still recording as MJ nodded in agreement.

"You guys are such girls." Peter said, shaking his head at the two as they tried to get Alexa to talk once more. Even Lilith was trying.

"Can you say my name? Can you say Emily? What about Mama and Papa?"

Alexa shook her head, "N-n-n-o. No." She stuttered, making Lilith giggle.

Peter sighed, "Well, I should get home. I promised Aunt May i'd be back for dinner."

"Yeah. I need to get home to make dinner for my dad." Mary Jane said as Emily finally stopped recording both children.

Emily nodded and said goodbye before Peter and MJ both left and she started making dinner for the three of them. When she looked at them as she began boiling the water and cutting the vegetables, she noticed that both appeared to be in distress.

"What is it, Lili? Alexa?" She asked, putting the knife down and kneeling beside both of them.

"Bad people are here, Auntie Em." Lili said in a monotone voice as she stared intently at the front door from her seat.

"How do you know that, sweetie?"

"I hear them. They don't sound very nice." She answered, not breaking her gaze from the front door.

Emily watched awestruck as the chain that was dangling from the side of the door almost levitated and locked itself into place above the dead bolt that also automatically locked itself into place.

Just as Lilith locked the deadbolt, there was a harsh knock on the door, making Emily turn off the stove and take Lilith by the hand as she picked up Alexa with the other. She stopped in her fathers room and found the key to his nightstand where she took out the pistol before going to her room.

Emily went over and opened her bedroom window and took off her sneakers and threw them out the window over the fire escape to buy herself some time, and did the same with Alexa and Lilith's shoes so it'd look like they escaped. Just in time too because the front door was kicked open and the "bad people" as Lilith put it started searching the apartment., knocking things over and breaking glass.

Emily and the children went into the closet, shutting it tightly as they entered her bedroom, talking in a language that she couldn't quite understand. She knew it was only a matter of time before they found them. Her heart was beating a mile a minute as she loaded the gun and the people, a man and a woman from the sound of it, searched the small bedroom.

She heard one of them approach the closet, fully prepared to open it when a mans voice stopped them.

Good. They noticed the open window and the shoes. She thought, waiting until the footsteps faded and a door closed.

Holding the gun tightly in her hand, she picked up Alexa with her left hand and told Lilith to follow her.

As they left the safety of the closet, Emily could hear the man and woman conversing outside the bedroom door. She quietly placed Alexa down on the fire escape before picking up Lilith and placing her next to Alexa before she too went out the window.

She carried both children down the metal fire escape before putting them down on the side walk and they made her way to where her car was parallel parked on the curb, reaching it just in time since the man and woman had noticed that they had escaped and were running down the fire escape towards them, running at full speed with their guns aimed at her.

The man and woman started shooting at her, making it difficult for her to make it to the drivers side, causing for a bullet to hit her in her shoulder. Emily held in her scream as she put both children in the back seat, blindly shooting her gun, knowing that it hit one of them as she got in the car and sped away since the man was on the ground.

"Are you guys okay?" She asked, briefly looking at them in the rearview mirror. Alexa was crying hysterically while Lilith was just deadly silent, almost as if she was in shock.

"Seatbelt, Auntie Em." Lilith said, noting how Emily wasn't wearing the seat belt.

"Sorry sweetie, i'll put it on when we get to our destination," She started, sighing, "Wherever that is." She muttered under her breath so they wouldn't hear. She was about to say something else as she turned her head slightly to look at them when she was cut off by Alexa's high pitched scream and Lilith shouting, "look out!"

She looked just in time to see another man standing in the middle of the road and another car swerve around him towards her. Emily tried to get control of the car as it started slipping and sliding across the slippery pavement and Emily sharply steered the wheel in attempt to get the vehicle to stop as she slammed on her brakes..

It all happened so fast, she wasn't sure if she'd live past this night.
