AN: I own nothing. Still.

I would've had this up earlier in the day, but I just finished editing it. It's hard to find the energy to write when you're sick as a dog with the stomach flu all week.

Anyway,a big thank you to the reviewers, followers, and favoriters. It really means a lot that you like my story.

Enjoy!

After a nice breakfast, Booth and Bones headed out to go shopping. Melissa, one of the ladies who took care of the condo, gave Brennan some ideas of where to find things Max would like for his birthday. But, she honestly didn't know what to get him.

"So, Bones, do you have an idea of a present for Max?" Booth asked.

"No. Maybe you would like to help me, though. You might know what Max would enjoy." she said.

"Me? How would I know what to get him? When you said his birthday was comin up, all I thought about getting him a beer helmet like I have." Booth said as they walked into the first store.

"What?" Brennan asked.

"Yeah, well. Who knows-he might like it." Booth said.

"Anyway. I still have no idea what to get him. What would you enjoy, Booth?"

"What? Bones, you don't have to get me anything." Booth said.

"Okay. I wasn't going to. I was thinking that what you might enjoy, so would Max. You two are a lot alike." Brennan said.

As she walked off to continue shopping, Booth stood there, speechless. 'She thinks I'm like Max? In what way am I anything like him?' he wondered to himself. Booth walked with determination to catch up to her, wanting to know how she thought he was like Max.

"Hey, Bones!"

It only took 2 hours and 5 stores, but eventually, Booth helped her find a present for Max. In the end, Brennan settled for a new camera with several zoom lenses, a tripod, and a printer. Turns out, Max had taken quite a shine to photography nowadays. Booth didn't ask. He figured it was good of Max to have a hobby that didn't involve the police. Or a dead body.

"How about I buy you lunch to make up for the last few hours, Booth?" Brennan asked.

"Alright. Where?" Booth asked.

"Anywhere you want. Even a steakhouse."

"Wha..really?" Booth asked surprised.

"Yes. I'm sure that steakhouses must have something on the menu I'll be willing to eat." Brennan said.

"Alright, Bones. If you're sure." Booth said. Looking to his right, he saw her on her phone, looking for a place to eat. Booth just turned up the radio a bit and drove.

A minute or so later, Brennan found a place. "Okay. There is a place called Buzz's. They have bbq for you, as well as salads for me. Acceptable?"

"Yeah, Bones. Just tell me where." Booth said.

Pulling up in front of Buzz's, Booth and Brennan sat looking at the building. It looked like it was made from Lincoln logs, giving it a look of comfort.

"Looks kinda fancy for a bbq joint, dontcha think, Bones?" Booth asked.

"No, not at all. Have you changed your mind?" she asked.

"No, Bones. Let's go in." Booth said.

Walking in, he couldn't help putting his hand on her lower back, guiding her through the door. He was surprised when she didn't object or start talking about his alpha male tendencies.

"Hi there! Table for 2?" a woman at the front asked.

"Yes, thank you" Brennan glanced at her name tag "Laurie." she said with a smile.

"Alrighty. Right this way." Laurie said, and led them to a booth in the back. "Can I get you guys something to drink while you look over the menu?" Laurie asked.

"I'll have an iced tea." Brennan said, opening her menu.

"I'll just have a Dr. Pepper. Thanks." Booth said.

"Okay. I'll be right back with those." Laurie said and walked away.

"Found something you might order, Bones?" Booth asked.

"Yes actually. I'm going to get the Beehive Salad." she said.

"What's that?" Booth asked, curious to the name.

"It says here that it's a garden salad topped with honey roasted almonds." Brennan said. "You?"

"I was thinking about this Honey BBQ Ribs." he said.

"Sounds like you guys are ready to order." Laurie said, placing their drinks on the table.

"Yeah, she will have the Beehive Salad.."

"Dressing on the side, please." Bones said.

"And I will have the.."

"Oh, I caught your order on the way over, sweetheart. Will that be all?" At seeing their nods, she said, "Alright. I'll have those to you in just a bit."

"Thanks." Booth said, as Laurie walked away. "She reminds me of my grandmother." he said absently.

"How so?" Bones asked.

"She's short, for one. My grandmother was a very short woman. Probably only around 4' 11, or so. Called everyone sweetheart. Had the exact same gray bun like Laurie has."

Brennan didn't say anything for a bit, noticing Booth had a faraway look in his eyes. She realized that besides Hank and Jared, and Parker, Booth didn't talk about his family that often. When he came back to himself, Brennan smiled. "She sounds like a very special lady, Booth."

Clearing his throat, Booth said "She was, Bones. She realy was." Taking a drink, he looked at her. That was one thing he and Bones had in common. They had crappy childhoods, but had a special person who made it seem better. For Booth, it was his grandparents. For Bones, he remembered, it was that creepy janitor who made her feel like less of an outcast. Now, however, they were both outstanding people, he thought.

"Alright, guys." Laurie said coming back. "Here ya go. One Beehive Salad, dressing on the side, and one Honey BBQ Ribs." She set their plates down in front of them. "Anything else?"

"No, thank you, Laurie." Brennan said.

"Okay. Just give a yell if you need anything."

Lunch was eaten mostly in silence. Once they were finished, Bones excused herself to the ladies room to wash up. Booth, figuring he would do something nice for her, decided to pay for lunch. Once they were back in the truck, she then did something nice, and surprised him with a piece of pecan pie in a to-go container.

"Is this why you went back in? I thought you said you forgot something." he said.

"I did. Your piece of pie." Brennan said, smiling. At his confused look, she continued. "I offered to buy lunch to pay you back for spending your morning shopping, but you paid instead, so this is my offering to you."

"Ha! Thanks, Bones. You're the best." Booth said, reaching over to grab her hand. Both were surprised when neither of them pulled their hand away.

PLEASE REVIEW.

BUZZ'S IS BASED OFF A BBQ JOINT NEAR WHERE I LIVE. IT REMINDS ME OFF A LOG CABIN AND ALWAYS SMELLS DELICIOUS!

IT'S SLOW GOING, BUT THE TWO ARE MAKING PROGRESS.

UNTIL NEXT WEEK!
