Sorry for taking so long, but my teachers give me too much homework. I hope you guys enjoy this, even though it's the last chapter. I don't own anything.
"Erza, you must go tomorrow. If you behave tomorrow, your punishment will probably be over," Ultear reasoned.
"I don't want to go," Erza stated once more, not changing her point. "I don't want to see that person anymore." But even if she says that... if her father wants to come, then she has to. It's rude for someone to deny the prince's request. "Leave me alone Ultear, I want to sleep."
"I feel like you've gotten less motivated Erza. Are you still bothered by what happened before?" Erza did not answer and moved around to get ready for bed, not once looking at Ultear. "Something good will happen tomorrow, so at least try to act normal in front of everyone okay? I'll also be coming to make sure that Uncle is a bit kinder on you."
"I doubt that your presence makes any difference."
"Anyone's presence can make a difference Erza. Good night."
Ultear closed the door, leaving Erza to herself. She would prefer it if she didn't have to see him. She didn't know how to face him since she accused him for treating her like she's Erza Scarlet. Yet, something felt wrong… The years still did not add up for that portrait of Erza Scarlet and the prince look-a-like. Erza Scarlet had to be her age when that was created, but Jellal is her age now and unless he doesn't age, there's no way that he could be the man in the portrait and if that wasn't him…Who was the prince look-a-like? If she had to go tomorrow, then she'll make sure that she'll get some understandable answers from that man's mouth.
For such a confrontation she would need her sleep to prepare for the battle, then plan her strategy.
For once, Erza's father was out of the military uniform and put on his own more formal robes of nobility. He had ensured that Erza properly had her wig on and wore suitable attire to be presented in front of the king. Both father and daughter knew what they needed to accomplish, despite their goals being so different. Who's determination will win?
"Welcome, Lord Knightwalker, Lady Milkovich, and the young Knightwalker lady," Coco greeted formally with a low bow. She was more formal than Erza had ever seen her. "The King and Prince await you. Please follow me."
They were lead into one of the many parlor rooms that Erza had never seen before. Every detail of the room was in gold or purple, demonstrating royalty and dominance. It was dripping in extravagance and Erza disliked it. How stuffy…
"Faust, allow me to introduce you to my niece, Ultear Milkovich," Rufus gestured towards the dark haired beauty who curtsied and greeted the king with respect.
"An honor to meet you."
"And I believe that your son is already acquainted with my daughter. Erza, your greetings," Rufus demanded.
"It's a pleasure to see that you're in good health, Your Majesties," Erza greeted simply with a bow. Faust nodded in approval, but Jellal looked like he wanted to tell her something. Not that she cared about what he had to say. She definitely did not want to hear any excuses coming from his mouth.
"I'm glad you see you in good health as well, Lord Knightwalker, Lady Milkovich, and Lady Knightwalker," Jellal formally greeted. How was this going to work exactly? Even if Faye told him to get all of them here… How was he going to explain this situation to Erza? "Please take a seat. We have some refreshments for you."
The main talking came from Faust and Rufus, since Jellal could not speak to either female for certain reasons. "I must say Rufus, I'm impressed with your daughter. It appears that she has more manners than I expected. "
"Your expectations are low." Erza began to dig her nails into her delicate wrist. She couldn't show her resentment now… If she did, who knows what else will happen? "If she was really so proper, she would already be wed with a child," Rufus argued. His opposition was properly only accepted since the two were friends. "I am more impressed with your son. When he matures a bit more, he will become a great man."
"No, even if you give him a century, I'm not sure if he will become a great king." What kind of conversation is this? They're purposely pointing out the worst (in their opinion) of their children. True normal parents have this conversation occasionally, but is that really the first thing that one talks about with their friend whom they haven't had a nonpolitical or military related conversation? How annoying…
"Father, will you please have a different topic of your conversation?" Jellal intervened politely. "I'm sure that there are other types of discussions that you can have with Lord Knightwalker."
"When you become a parent, there's nothing else to speak about except for your own children. No matter how flawed they are, no matter what kind of trash they are, parents can't help but speak of their children." That was when Erza noticed it. Behind a reserved mask, Jellal was infuriated, she could tell. Well, who wouldn't be when they were being insulted by their own parents?
"I beg to differ with your point, King. Every human has their own flaws," Erza stated calmly, with her voice even. Jellal's eyes widen slightly, wondering where she was going with this. "Despite the Prince's flaws, he is still a capable human and is in no way trash, your Majesty. Perhaps, you have not spent enough time into thinking that he is something other than trash?"
"Erza! Where are your manners? Apologize immediately," Rufus commanded.
"But I did nothing wrong. I merely disagreed with his point, because I don't see how the Prince is useless. On the contrary, he's quite reliable and tolerable." Really, if he can tolerate a person like her, then he is amazing.
"Erza-!"
"Now I wonder which one you're speaking to." Both adults twitched in recognition of that voice. Jellal merely smiled, but Erza didn't know whose voice it was. "Faust, Rufus, calm down. I swear in the years that we've been apart, you haven't changed at all." Erza turned around to see a woman who looked exactly like her.
"Scarlet…?"
"What are you doing here?! Get out of my sight this instant!" Faust commanded. "Do you not understand the term 'banished' or are you an idiot?" Faust picked up a cup from the table and threw it towards the woman, but it never hit her. A prince-look-a-like quickly grabbed the cup before it could touch her. Faust's eyes cringed in anger. "And you're here as well?
"It's been a while Uncle. I'd never thought for a greeting that you would throw a cup at my wife." Wait a second… Doesn't that mean that… the person in the painting really wasn't the Jellal that she knew? "Erza, are you okay?"
"Don't worry, I'm still fine," she assured her husband. She turned her attention back to Faust. "I would say you're the idiot. Not only did you want me to marry your son but you forced me away from my home and made me unable to attend my own sister's funeral." Her voice was calm, but her eyes were filled with anger. "And Rufus, you are truly an idiot for restricting your daughter because she looks like me. If you were that upset with me winning every spar, then you should have just gotten stronger instead of coming to petty solutions."
"You couldn't beat me! I always went easy on you because Leila told me to; your own strength is a lie!"
"Oh?" She smirked. "Then please prove it to me. I would assume that the general of an army can beat a simple guild worker," she challenged. She's witty, Erza will give her that.
"Erza," the look-a-like called.
"Challenge accepted!" Looks like no matter how old people become, they've still the same pride filled people that they used to be.
"Don't be too reckless, Erza," he mentioned, handing his wife her sword.
"Of course not. I'll be careful." The older Erza noticed the younger one's look. "Nice to meet you, or should I say it's good to see you again, Erza? You've grown quite a bit since you were 5. However… I don't remember you having black hair." She reached out, but Knightwalker quickly slapped Scarlet's hand away.
"Don't touch me," she spat out. "What I do has nothing to do with you."
Scarlet gave an apologetic look. "I'm sorry."
She didn't understand this woman. How could someone so fragile be of threat to her father? It's ridiculous! There can't be that much to her… Her body structure, her words, her eyes, none of it shows the slightest signs of strength! But then why do people like him hold her in such high regards? While she admits that people would love this woman, what's so special about her? Besides the fact that she was supposed to marry the Prince and is technically a traitor to the Knightwalker name.
"Let us begin, Erza Scarlet!" Rufus shouted, wielding his trusted sword. Anger and hatred were obvious, but that didn't cause Scarlet to fear in the slightest. Instead she smiled, anticipating a good challenge. Things have gotten so repetitive lately at the guild, so she wanted to have something different for a change.
"Before we begin, I want to make a bet. If I happen to win, then I want to see Leila's grave. Is that fine with you as well, King?"
Faust glared. How dare she mock him! "When I win, you'll never show your face in front of me again," Rufus stated.
"You sound so confident. Mystogan, pay attention, this will be a good lesson for you."
Erza glanced from the prince to the other her. "Exactly how close are you to Scarlet?" Erza asked.
"She taught me how to fight and helped me out for the past few years," Mystogan explained. "Even though she doesn't look like it, she could probably beat at least 5 grown men by herself. But don't worry, I'm not interested in her romantically in the slightest, Erza," he assured her with a smile.
"Shut up," she commanded with a blush.
Before Knightwalker even knew it, the swords clashed together in a heated battle. Her eyes widened as the match played out. What Mystogan had stated was true; Erza Scarlet was powerful enough to take on the famous General Knightwalker, who's said to leave nothing in his path alive, at equal power. Her body structure didn't even hinder her, instead it aided in her speed to avoid the harsher blows that General Knightwalker was attempting to inflict on her. He did graze her face, just a little. But her fighting style was actually beautiful, almost like a fairy who would never get caught. She noticed that instead of using the blade of the sword to strike, her final blow was with the edge of the handle, but that didn't change the fact that she struck it into the older man's chest.
"Show me to Leila's grave, dear brother-in-law. You lost."
"Why you-?!" General Knightwalker ran to punch the woman, but the prince look-a-like intercepted. "You again, Fernandez? How many times will you get in the way?"
"How many times will you try to hurt, Erza both emotionally and physically? As her husband, I can't let anything happen to my wife, can I?"
"So the rumors were true of you going against my will and marrying that Scarlet girl," Faust stated. "Even when you knew that I decreed that she was meant to marry my son, you continuously got in the way and took her away from the kingdom."
"Mysto and Erza both said no explicitly, but you weren't listening again because you were too busy to think about anything expect taxes. Listen to what your son has to say for once in your life, Uncle. And if you ask me, I'm pretty sure that he's got someone that he likes too. Isn't that right, Mysto?"
Mystogan immediately turned red. "Well… um…" It was the first time that Knightwalker saw him like that, she never thought that someone as confident as him could be so… embarrassed. "I guess so…"
"Young love is adorable, isn't it Jellal?" Ultear asked, finally rising from her seat, deciding that she was tired to remaining quiet. "I remember how you and Erza were the first time you were dating. Mira wouldn't stop taking pictures of you to blackmail Erza with."
"Ultear!"Erza blinked in confusion. How long did Ultear know this other Jellal and Erza? "I thought we weren't going to mention that again!"
"But it's so funny. You must let me have my fun once in a while Jelly, or else it all gets far too boring."
"Just don't exploit me while you're having fun. Erza!" The man rushed to hos wife's side as she fell to her knees. "Are you alright? Does it hurt somewhere? Don't tell me he hurt you."
"I'm fine, Jellal. There's no reason to worry. I just got a little nausea. Where's Faye? She was suppose to get the medicine."
"I found the medicine," Faye announced walking into the room. "And I got a bucket just in case. Oh Erza, why do you have a cut on your face?"
"It's no big deal."
"Erza, think of the baby," Jellal whispered concerned. Unfortunately, everyone in the room heard his statement.
"Baby?! You're going to have a child?!" Faust demanded to know.
"Congratulations, Erza. Jelly, it's been long enough. I know you two were going to wait, but any longer would be ridiculous." Jellal blushed while the younger Erza had a mild shock showing on her face. "How long?"
"2 months."
"That's wonderful! Have you thought of any names yet?"
"If it's a boy, then his name will be Siegrain after his father," Erza stated."I don't want to get him confused with Jellal, so we thought that his middle name would be better."
"And if it's a girl, Erza wants her name to be Reina."
"I see…," Ultear said with a smile. "I just hope that you both aren't dotting parents or insanely overprotective." The married couple looked at her confused. "Uncle, King Faust, should we go to Leila-san's grave already? Erza did win. Shouldn't you allow her prize?"Ultear was able to distract the others into her plan. Right before she left, she winked at Mystogan, who had a grateful look on his face.
"Was there a reason why the two of us didn't have to go?" Erza asked.
"Yeah… We need to have a talk, Erza." She glared at him as he took her hand. "Please."
Her glare didn't faze, but she said, "I swear Jellal, if this is going to be about-"
"No, it's not. And please call me Mystogan now. I don't want to get confused." His request was gentle, but it was then when Erza realized that he was very similar to her… And he's known about his look-a-like longer than she has. Why did he seem so fine with it?
"Is that why you came back now?" Erza looked at Rufus as their group walked to Reina's grave. "To give news of your upcoming child?" Erza did not answer him. "Must you always bring dishonor to the family name?"
"That is my sister's family name, not mine. My last name was Scarlet and is now Fernandez. Are you that upset that your father almost left everything to the Knightwalker name to me?" The gender of the heir never matter, but only the skill and this woman was always more skilled than Rufus. "If that is part of the reason why, I'm sorry. But it's time to let the past go already."
"The only reason he gave me this position was because you were on opposing terms with Faust," he gestured to his old friend who was having a talk with his nephew.
"I would have rejected it anyways. I could never be interested in staying in a single place for the rest of my life, without being allowed to travel freely." Perhaps that is the main difference between them. Erza Scarlet wanted to freely fly and travel for the sake of creating new memories from her adventures. Erza Knightwalker wanted to prove herself, not to the world, but merely to her kingdom, she wanted to prove that she wasn't just a pretty doll who sat around, she is a honorable member of her family.
"I can't believe you."
"Nor can I believe you. You told Erza restrain herself, I can tell just from her appearance. She has potential that will go to waste like this."
"What are you implying?"
Erza looked directly at her brother-in-law. "Don't make the same mistake twice, or Edolas will be the one who suffers."
He knew what she was going at. He knew that there was hope for Erza, he was afraid of that. He couldn't get away from the shadow of Erza Scarlet. It was not anger that caused him to oppress her, but fear. He knew his mistake of the past, but… was he really willing to change?
Rufus Knightwalker loves Edolas, he truly wants to protect his home, but should he let go of his daughter, who could destroy or save his beloved homeland? He looked towards Erza who gave him a knowing look. Perhaps he just needed to trust her and trust her, he will.
"I will never understand you," Erza stated once Mystogan let her hand go. She had left the black wig behind and allowed Mystogan to lead her to the garden, "What was the point of asking me to be here? You knew that I couldn't refuse an official invitation-"
"That's why I sent a formal invitation! I knew that you wouldn't have come and listen to me if I didn't!" It was the first time that she heard him raise his voice. She stayed silent, weighting out her options. "Just please listen to me Erza. I swear that I have not once, nor ever thought of you as being Erza Scarlet."
"Why did you keep me around, then Mystogan?"
"Because you didn't see me only for my title," he answered simply. She judged people purely on their own talents and she didn't care for fancy titles, that's why Mystogan had kept her so close. That why…He leaned in closer and said," I love that part about you the most."
Erza's face turned a light pink, which quickly faded from shock. "What?" she spat out. "I swear if you're lying, I will castrate you."
"Erza-"
"I'm not a doll who will do whatever you say." That's the only thing that she refused to do if she gets married. She refuses to deny herself and disguise as someone so…fake! She doesn't want to be told what to do or what to say, but no one seems to understand that since a wife's job is to be seen, but not heard.
"Erza, I try to treat you as an individual, not a puppet," he defended. His look was so sincere that Erza felt bad for doubting him, but she didn't want to admit that she was wrong. "Erza, I want to have someone by my side who doesn't want to be behind me but besides me. Someone who I can have a decent conversation with free of any formalities, I don't want someone who's afraid to insult me. "
"Aren't you insulting me right now?" she asked, getting somewhat frustrated and ignoring the purpose of his statements.
"It's a compliment," he answered simply with a smile.
"You know what I want to do and you know how people will react because of those actions."
"If anyone saw your talent, they wouldn't think that I gave you the position. Wouldn't it be amusing to make then see how wrong they were?" He understood her well. "As long as you're enjoying yourself, who cares about what others think?"
"Mystogan, it's my sole duty not to bring any shame to my family name and think about your own reputation." Not that he cares about it that much. "What would happen if people thought that I slept with you just to get a position in the military?"
"I barely care about what my own father says about me, you think I'll care about other people who I hardly know?"
"M-" Before she could utter another word, he softly kissed her. Erza refused to be lead in, but he coaxed her to relax in the moment. Once again, her mask fell and she did as she pleased. Mystogan was understanding and tolerant of her, she could live with that. After all, he was the first person that allowed her to be herself and she was the first person who saw him past the heavy shackle. Now it is the first step to take. It is the first moment that they can finally stop living the lies that other people wanted and become themselves without a hint of fear or a chain of the past.
Sorry for ending it suddenly, but I am satisfied with this ending for now. Don't worry another Mystwalker story from me is in the making right now (I'm planning on having it as a collection of one-shots). So yeah... Thank you all for supporting my story, I loved reading the reviews and seeing people favorite/follow this. Thank you guys so much.
