Chapter 9...
"So this is Fairy Tail huh?" Natsu said while staring at the huge door in front of him.
"Yeah. Although I should warn you. It can get rough in there." Erza said. She along with Gray, Natsu , Treya, and Lucy opened the doors and went inside. When Natsu had walked in, he blinked and looked around everywhere. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at their tables with normal chatter. Everyone then stopped and looked towards the entrance. Erza then stood in front of him and began announcing something.
"We have guests here now, so don't go and start fighting for no apparent. Because even if Master forgives..I won't." She said authoritatively. They all nodded and went and looked once more. The guests were a pink haired young man, and a young woman with long green hair. Natsu then nervously chuckled as he introduced himself.
"H-hey guys. The name is Natsu Dranigon. But call me Natsu."
"Treya Duella." Treya simply said in her monotone. Natsu then decided to go sit at the bar as Erza and Treya sat on opposite sides of him. Mira then came out of the kitchen and was surprised to see a couple new faces.
"Oh my." She exclaimed.
"Mira, this is Natsu, and Treya." Erza introduced them.
"Natsu..Dranigon?" She thought. He looked a bit different in his picture.
"Uh, yeah." Natsu said.
"I thought so. I recognized your face from the picture in the Weekly." She smiled and grabbed a magazine from below the counter. She flipped through a few pages before stopping and turning it to show him. "There, see? That's you right?" He took it from her and narrowed his eye at the picture.
"Damn, these guys are persistent." He sighed. "Yeah, that's me." He said putting it back on the counter.
"Then, who is the woman in the photo you are traveling with, if its not too much to ask?" She asked politely.
"A bitch." Treya simply said.
"She isn't a bitch! How many times are you going to keep calling her that?!" He asked with a tick mark.
"As many times as you bring it up." She replied.
"Ahh, she's a friend i'm helping out." He simply said after sighing in defeat.
"I see. That makes sense...Wait a minute." She then turned her attention to Treya who just looked at her blankly. "Treya as in...Bloody Jewel Treya?!" She exclaimed. Treya simply blinked slowly and looked down with a small frown.
"Hai."
"I thought I read she was in a fight with you?" Gray asked.
"We did fight. But we tied, and various things happened..." Natsu said as he turned back to him.
"But..why is she traveling with you?" Lucy asked.
"Beca-"
"We are betrothed." She said, interrupting Natsu and clutching his arm.
"Huh?" Lucy thought she misheard them.
"Seriously? That girl?" Gray asked.
"He has defeated me in combat. There for I have devoted my body and soul to him." She explained.
"I told you.." Natsu began to sigh, wishing she would just stop talking.
"You must be very strong then Treya. I've actually heard of your many accomplishments while I was out on jobs." Erza said as Treya turned to her.
"I wouldn't call them accomplishments." Treya said as she frowned once more. She then gripped Natsu's arm tighter as he glanced over and noticed she was troubled about something.
"..Well regardless." Natsu began to say. "She's with me for a while." He said while putting his hand on hers under the bar. She felt more at ease, as she made a small unnoticeable smile.
"I see. Well, its great that you travel together." Mira said smiling gently at her.
"I see we have a guest." A voice said. Everyone turned around and saw Makarov standing there. Natsu then got off the chair and went towards him to greet him.
"The name's-"
"Natsu..correct?" He said, much to Natsu's surprise.
"You know me?" He asked.
"It seems you don't remember me. That's alright, it was after all ten years ago." He said.
"Wait, ten years? Hmm.." Natsu then closed his eyes for a minute and furrowed his eye brows trying to think hard back to ten years ago. His eyes then shot open, indicating he remembered. "Wait, you mean you're.." He began to say as everyone listened.
"Yes?" Makarov was awaiting his answer in anticipation.
"..That geezer that was feeling up those women by the library?" Everyone then fell over in disbelief.
"N-no." Makarov said grunting.
"Really Master!?"
"Geez, the things you do in front of kids nowadays."
"No, i'm pretty sure that was you. You were about as tall as me, and you tried to tell me that a man's dream was hidden in-"
"Ok fine that was me! Yes, I admit I was a little bold, but I have turned from those evil ways." Makarov said trying to recomposing himself.
"Master, your full of it. Yesterday, I saw you trying to sweet talk the owner of the shop's daughter into putting on some weird costume." Wakaba said while making Makarov grovel.
"A-aren't we getting off topic here?" He said as blue lines of depression ran down his head.
"So how do you know this guy, Master?" Gray asked.
"Ah, back when I was taking a stroll, I came upon this one-eyed kid. Speaking of which, you seem to be healing rather well." He noted as he looked at Natsu's grey eye and partial scar on it.
"Well, I can't see with it yet." He as he waved his hand in front of it.
"I see. Anyways, I invited Natsu to join the guild a while ago. But he flat out refused." He said shrugging his shoulders.
"Why?" They all wondered.
"What did you say again boy?" Makarov asked, as he couldn't recall.
"I was still living with my foster father back then." (This is a AU. The timeline and events are different then cannon!) "I wasn't wanting to join because I was in the middle of training." He explained.
"Training? Well you could still have joined. We all work on improving ourselves while being able to have fun at the same time." Makarov said.
"No. That was different. I had no choice but to train." He went on to say. "I..needed to get stronger." He said a bit hesitantly as he looked down.
"Working towards a goal? That's nice." He said.
"Yeah...I guess so." He said with a smile. Treya was observing him, but didn't feel that the smile he was showing wasn't real. She grew curious.
"Well, what about joining now? Unless of course you are affiliated with another guild." Makarov offered.
"Well.." Natsu thought about for a second. "I'll think about it. I'm not stuck in the same situation I was back then, but..I still have something to do." He said as his eyes seemed a bit empty for a moment. "Until then, I don't think I'm going to be staying in one spot for too long." He finished as Makarov nodded.
"Perhaps we could help you?" Lucy asked.
"If it is help you need. I wouldn't mind returning the favor." Erza offered.
"What is it you need to do Pinky?" Gray asked, which irritated Natsu slightly.
"No offense, but I doubt you guys could help." Natsu said which made them curious.
"What do you mean?" Lucy asked.
"Well its simple really." Natsu chuckled, which was a bit strange. He then looked at them with a smile and narrowed looked. "I'm going to kill a dragon." He said which made them all silent.
"A d-dragon?" Lucy said, as if recalling a certain memory.
"Oi oi, you mean like..an actual dragon?" Gray asked.
"You can't be serious." Gajeel came in suddenly.
"Gajeel." Lucy said, surprised at his entrance. He came up to Natsu and crossed his arms. "Trust me, it ain't that easy."
"Oh? Are you telling me you've killed a dragon?" Natsu crossed his arms and looked him in the eye.
"No. But I've tried, and it isn't like what our dragons taught us." Gajeel said with a serious look.
"Our dragons?" Natsu repeated.
"You are a Dragon Slayer right? Trying to take one on by yourself is suicide." Gajeel said.
"Don't put me and my mate on the same level as you." Treya suddenly said as she came to Natsu's side. Natsu made a blank look, turning his head to her. "You Dragon Slayers are powerful, but there is a difference between us and you." She said which made Gajeel a bit annoyed.
"You calling me weak?" He hissed.
"No. Although, you would never even last a second against me." She said as the two glared at each other.
"Treya?" Natsu said in a cold tone.
"Do not worry. I will not cause a scene. Anyways, you are an Iron Dragon Slayer, correct?"
"That I am." He stated proudly.
"Then you are not capable of the full potential." She said.
"Full potential? What do you mean?" Mira asked.
"Me and Natsu, are Lost Dragon Slayers." She said which made them all make sounds of confusion.
"The hell is a Lost Dragon Slayer?" Gajeel asked.
"We're two of the most powerful dragon slayers to ever exist. You see, a Dragon Slayer is taught how to use magic of the dragons. Whereas a Lost Dragon Slayer is taught how to kill a dragon." She explained.
"What? Sounds like bullshit to me. I've never even heard of something like that." Gajeel said with doubt in his voice.
"There is such a thing. There's five of us total. My mother told me herself." Treya said.
"Well I don't know about your so called "mother", but I don't believe a damn thing about this whole "Lost Dragon Sla-"
"You iron bastard!" Treya's face was all of a sudden filled with rage as she glared at Gajeel. Natsu quickly grabbed her by the arms.
"Whoa Treya, calm down!" He said trying to keep her under control.
"Release me! I won't forgive this bastard for insulting my mother!" She gritted her teeth.
"You want to fight bitch? I'm gonna make you so-"
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Makarov roared which surprised everyone. "Gajeel. Go outside and cool off if you're just going to start a fight." He ordered.
"Teh." He scoffed and turned. "I wasn't insulting your mother, green hair. I just never heard of a Lost Dragon Slayer before." He said right before he went outside and left. Treya's hair shadowed her eyes as Natsu let her go slowly. She then slowly began walking towards the entrance as Natsu stared at her from behind. He then turned to Makarov.
"Sorry Gramps. I haven't seen her lose it like that." Natsu apologized.
"Don't worry Natsu. Gajeel can be a bit of a blockhead sometimes. But he isn't all that bad." Makarov sighed.
"I better go make sure she's okay. Thanks for lettin' us in. I'll visit you guys again before we hit the road." He said to them all as he hurried after Treya. It was an awkward silence. Erza pinched her nose in frustration.
"Why did he have to go and say all that?"
"I know Gajeel is spoiling for a fight half the time, but geez." Gray said, sitting back in his chair. They all hoped that they would get to see them once again, and not leave on a sour note.
"Treya?" Natsu asked as he came over to her. She was sitting on a bench with her head hung low.
"I'm..sorry." She began to say.
"You don't have to apologize.
"I do. I said I wouldn't make a scene, but I-"
"I said you don't have to apologize." He said firmly. She then sniffled a little.
"I failed mother.." She began to say which made Natsu turn to her. "She said I needed to learn to get along with humans. But..I've only killed, and only started fights with them."
"Well..you aren't always going to be getting along with every person you come across. There's nice people and bad people. But in your case, i'd have to say you mostly were around lots of bad ones." He said as he sat down next to her.
"I..don't know how to act around good people. And they end up hating me, or are afraid of me. Mother was easier to act openly with." She wiped a tear from her eye, holding back her sorrow.
"You..really loved your mother." He said as she nodded.
"I..miss her...so much." She said as clenched her hands on her lap and bit her lip. "I don't trust anyone..no one can ever compare to her caring side. She was the only one in this life to love, and take care of me." Natsu then turned his head faced the ground. "So I beg of you..." She turned to him with a few tears streaming down her face. "Please let me be by your side, Natsu Dranigon." Natsu was surprised at the emotion she was showing him as he maintained a blank look. He then smiled gently and put his hand on her shoulder and looked into her grey eyes.
"Well, if you really want to stick with me. Sure, why the hell not?" He said with a toothy grin. She then felt her face get all hot as she blushed and for the first time, her heart felt all warm and fuzzy. The empty feeling she had was gone, and was filled with warmth. She was positive she picked the right one to be her mate. She then turned away and wiped the tears off her cheeks.
"Thank you. I knew I picked the right mate." She then smiled. Not a weird, dark, or fake, but genuine smile.
"Sigh, if you say so." Natsu said. He had given up on trying to deny it over and over again.
"By the way. When you said that you were going to kill a dragon..was that true?" She asked curiously.
"Yeah. I'm looking for the dragon that killed my father."
"Your father was a dragon as well I take it?" She asked. Natsu then nodded.
"I tried to kill the dragon because I thought I could beat it in my current state back then. But Venigon ended up having to protect me. The Dragon used a weird spell..no, some sort of power. But it wasn't anything like magic. It didn't feel right." He said as he narrowed his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know. It just felt darker than magic." He said as he glared. "Anyway, I've been wandering ever since then. Hoping i'd run into him, and kill him. That was what I was raised for. So I guess the only thing I can do is try to finish what he started." He said as Treya then put her hand on his while looking at him.
"There you two are." They both then turned to the voice of Eclair as she came up to them holding a book.
"We think we might have found something!" Momon said enthusiastically.
"...Am I interrupting?" She asked, noting Treya's tear stained face.
"No. What did you find?" Treya said as she recomposed herself.
"I found what looks like a ruin of sort. Its called the Sun Temple, it might just house what i'm looking for." She explained while showing them the inside of the book.
"Is that..Gavilian?" Treya said, leaning closer to the book.
"You know the Gavil dialect?" Natsu asked curiously.
"Hai. I learned the writing when I was little." She said with a nod.
"The Gavil?" Momon asked.
"They used to be a civilization that worshiped dragons as gods. They believe they were the creators of all elements of Earth-Land, or something." Natsu explained.
"Well, can you read what this tablet says in this picture?" Eclair asked showing them a picture of a tablet with writing, and a sun engraved on it.
"His Shivosah fra zelt casanin, Sun revel gen souga. Grou silta chu ne shulli kanso." Treya said, reading the language.
"What's it say?" Momon asked.
"The Shivosah dwells eternal, he wields the Sun. Only those who share his power can send his soul to oblivion." Natsu said as he furrowed his look.
"What's the Shivosah?" Eclair asked.
"Well, it could mean several things. But if I had to say it in our tongue its a slang for "God Being" or "Element Master." Natsu put his hand on his chin trying to figure out the right way to put it.
"God Being." Eclair repeated as she put her hand on her chin thinking deeply. "I read from another book about the Gavilian. They built temples and large shrines for dragons to dwell in. As the Gavil brought them sacrifices, they would use their power to to expand their empire beyond the world. One section talked about a "God Being" that had a shrine completely devoted to him, and how the Gavil worshiped him for decades, much longer then the other ones. But then one day a tragedy happened, that annihilated most of the race, bringing them to extinction."
"Huh." Natsu said.
"Where is this temple located at?" Treya asked.
"It says that a number of archaeologists have been uncovering this ruin in the south. There's a massive dig site there." She then showed them a map and a large blank area surround by a ring of mountains.
"That's pretty big." Natsu said.
"And isolated. See how the mountains completely close off everything else?" Treya pointed.
"So the only way in, is over the mountains."
"I asked about that. It looks like a tunnel was excavated, and made into a straight path that leads to it." Eclair said as she sat down with them.
"What are you hoping to find?" Treya asked suddenly. "What drives you to want to go there?"
"I'm..looking for answers."
"Answers?"
"Where I came from. Maybe..mmmph." Eclair then shook her head. "Just..something." She said as she frowned. Natsu and Treya blinked. Natsu then stood up and stretched.
"Well, I guess that's our next destination."
"We'll leave tomorrow. We also need fresh supplies." Eclair said.
"I'll take care of it." Treya said as she stood up. "You might want to see if you can find anymore references of that temple. The Gavilians could have some things hidden away there we don't know about."
"Like booby-traps?" Momon asked.
"Exactly." Natsu chuckled.
"You just make sure you get everything we need." Eclair said to Treya in a cold manner.
"You make sure you have your facts straight." Treya responded similarly.
"Blind pack mule." Eclair said before walking off.
"Bitch." Treya said as the two went in opposite directions. Natsu just felt like he was lost in a blizzard when the two acted their usual cold selves toward one another.
"What should we do now?" Momon asked Natsu as he stood beside him.
"Uh...want to go look around?"
"Yeah, that sounds fun!" And with that, the two headed off into town.
Natsu was looking around with his hands in his pockets. Everyone could tell he wasn't from around here. They all talked among themselves, whispering about how unusual the young man was.
"Why does the back say Oblivion?"
"I don't know. Marketing thing?"
"He has pink hair. Quite unusual."
"They seem to be talking about you Natsu." Momon said while he observed around them.
"They can tell we haven't been here before." He said while smiling.
"..Hey, Natsu?"
"Hm?"
"How long will you be with us?"
"How long?...I guess until we find whatever it is Eclair is looking for."
"Then...you're going to leave?" Natsu then turned to him and saw that he was a bit sad.
"Maybe." He then faced forward.
"Eclair..really has opened up since you've been around her."
"Really?"
"Mm. Which is why I want to ask you a favor." He then stopped and looked at Natsu."Could you please be friends with her...even afterwards?" Natsu then blinked and smiled.
"You guys are already my friends. And even if we're apart, our bonds keep us that way." He said as he knelt down to him.
"Mm." Momon nodded happily.
"You guys stick with me, and i'll keep you two safe. I promise." He then stood up and then began walking again. Momon felt he could trust Natsu to keep Eclair and himself safe from harm. He may have just met him but he knew he could put his faith in Natsu. He was just that kind of person, he thought.
"Natsu." He turned to the mention of his name and his eyes met Erza who looked like she was troubled about something.
"What's up Erza?" He greeted with a smile.
"I..just was seeing if you were still in town. I apologize for earlier. Gajeel said things that were uncalled for, and I hope that you don't think less of us because of that." Erza apologized.
"Oh don't worry about it." Natsu shrugged.
"Is Treya Duella alright?"
"We're good. She was just upset, but she's over it now. Although, I wouldn't recommend pissing her off again. I thought she was going to kill him." He made a narrowed look.
"Well, I promise it won't happen again. Come to think of it, you fought with her correct?"
"Oh yeah. I was in for the fight of my life a few days ago." He recalled.
"Then, why is she with you?" Erza wondered.
"Because, she's like me." He chuckled.
"Like you? Because you are both these Lost Dragon Slayers?" She asked curiously.
"I guess..but its because she was alone. So, I guess I wanted to make sure she wasn't." He simply explained.
"I see. So that's the kind of person you are." Erza smiled.
"Hm?" Natsu stopped and turned to her.
"Oh, nothing." Erza shook her head. "So how long are you going to stay in Magnolia?"
"We're going to go to a gasil..uh...gravel..um, Gavil! That's it! We're going to go to a Gavil dig site tomorrow!" Momon said as Erza looked down to the bird.
"A talking bird." She said with interest.
"I'm Momon."
"Nice to meet you. Anyways, you said a Gavil dig site, correct?"
"Yep. We're hoping to find something there." Natsu nodded.
"What exactly?"
"To be honest...i'm not exactly sure." Natsu sheepishly chuckled.
"So where is this site located?"
"Ah." Natsu then clapped his hands and a map appeared in his hands.
"You use Re-quip magic?" Erza asked with interest.
"Oh yeah. I use it to store the stuff. Really handy." He said which she also agreed to with a nod. Natsu then looked at the map for a moment and then showed her it.
"A Gavil ruin is located here. It's dig is headed by a mage. He's a historian that is renowned for his many finds. He gets nearly limitless funding because he always uncovers the ruins nobody else could."
"Yeah? He must be an expert in his line of work."
"He uncovers mainly Gavil shrines, and temples. He seemed to be one of a few people that could interpret the writings to find where the sites are."
"Natsu knows how to speak Gavil!" Momon said.
"What? Really? It's a forgotten language that even people spending their life studying have a hard time comprehending." Erza said in amazement.
"I was taught it when I was little."
"I see." She nodded.
"Momon, Natsu." Natsu turned to Eclair as she came up to him. "I need help translating something. Could yo-..You." Eclair recognized Erza.
"Oh you're the one I met that one time. What was your name again?" Erza tried to recall.
"Eclair." She said in slight monotone.
"I see. It's nice to meet you aga-"
"Lets go Natsu." She said as she walked with Momon. Erza was left awkwardly in mid sentence.
"She seems.."
"Oh, she's like that. But she's not so bad once you get to know her." Natsu explained.
"I see. Well, I guess I shall see you later then. Good day." She bowed and then walked away as Natsu smiled and waved. He then caught up with Eclair and Momon.
"You two seem to be on friendly terms." Eclair said with a bit of coldness in her voice.
"Well she's really nice. She showed me the guild she works at."
"Hmph." She scoffed.
"What?"
"Nothing." She said as Natsu raised an eyebrow.
"Um, are you mad at me?"
"Why would I be?" She asked.
"Well...I don't know why..but it seems I did something that made you ticked." He said as he put his hands behind his head.
"Sorry I make you uncomfortable." She said which made Natsu look at her confused.
"What are you talking about? I don't find you uncomfortable. I like being around you." He said which made her widen her eyes a little. "If I did something wrong, i'm sorry." He said which made frown a little.
"Why are you apologizing?..J-just help me with the translations." She said with a bit of pink on her cheeks.
"Sure!" He smiled.
Momon was watching the two as he just didn't quite get it.
