Chapter IX – Kitten's Time Back
Later back at Home-Tree as the two of them landed, Jess jumped off first. Extending out her hand to help Sylwanin she took it. Taking her hand, she stepped down, but slipped. She was caught and landed in her arms. Holding each other only for moment it felt like an eternity.
"You alright Sylvie? Jess asked as Sylwanin stepped back smiling.
"Yep, I'm good...just a bit clumsy. Is all. Hehe."
"Ha, glad I'm not the only one." As she giggled to herself.
"Huh, what you mean?" she asked being intrigued. Jess simply turned away shyly and recommended that they get home.
"Don't worry about it, let's go home and get some sleep." She walked over to Kirr'ar and thanked her by giving her a chin rub. Which she enjoyed, leaning into it slightly. Sylwanin also said goodbye, with a personal note as they nuzzled each other for a moment. With that she flew away to her own nest, to settle down.
On the way down the tree close to the bottom, Sylwanin thought she would tease Jess a little and asked her;
"By the way where are you leading me?"
"Uhmm..." hesitantly and confused she tried to answer "...Going to our...uhm your hideout."
"Oh? And who said you can go there with me?" Finding it really funny to see Jess this flustered. Doing her best not to smirk and keep a serious tone.
"Huh, what?" Stopping her in her tracks she turned towards Sylwanin. "I mean...I understand, I just... didn't want to leave you alone after wha...what happened." Slightly sobbing as her ears and tail dropped. She wasn't aware that she was being teased and was getting really upset.
It's really upsetting ya know, I get along really well with Sylvie. Maybe it's my fault ya know.
She knew that she can be emotional, clumsy and not think about her actions. But at that moment she kept thinking it was her fault, why? Because she kissed Sylwanin earlier, thinking that she may have misplaced the moment. She turned around and was about to leave. Finding a place to lie down.
"It' is ok…I will leave you alone for the night." As she turned, she suddenly had her tail grabbed. "Aaihha," letting out a small yelp. Sylwanin pulled Jess towards her with a strong yet soft tug. Almost as smooth as dance twirl she was received in open arms. Jess was so confused thinking to herself that she may have crossed the line before, however was also annoyed with herself for being like this after being so strong the night before. Protecting Sylwanin she was so confident, and now it may have meant nothing. Keeping Jess in her arms hugging her gently Sylwanin comforted Jess as she was still slightly dripping. She could feel her tears on her shoulder trickling down her back.
"Don't be sad my Jes'ie. I did not want you to cry."
"I'm sorry. I don't want you to see me this way." Sobbing into Sylwanin shoulder.
"It's alright, but do not cry." Taking her from her shoulder to look into her eyes.
"I can't help it." She replied as Sylwanin wiped the tears off the cheeks gently with the back of her fingers.
"I was just teasing you, and I am sorry. Let's go and sleep." With that Sylwanin took Jess by the hand and led her away to the hideout. Jess was starting to feel better as she was holding Sylwanin's hand. In that moment she knew everything is still alright. Once again, they didn't speak to each other, and didn't have too.
About ten minutes later they arrived at their hideout. Sylwanin was the first to go in, she went into the back as Jess sat down on the moss bed. She forgot how soft it was. The thick layer of leaves and moss was just so cosy. A few minutes later Sylwanin came back with wet hair, and her blue skin glistening ever so slightly. Jess gazed up and down her friend for brief moment.
"It's your turn Jes'ie." Sylwanin said, slightly embarrassed as she was drying herself of with an animal fur. Jess then went into the back. The hideout was bigger than she thought, impressive considering that it was all hand built by Sylwanin. Coming from the bed and hammock you walk through a vine curtain. To the left and right is another vine curtain. In front of her is the wall of the tree they were in. She went towards to the right and saw that this was where Sylwanin kept her clothes, oddly enough she had built herself an open wardrobe. And using twigs she even fashioned herself some coat hangers on which she had her different styles of leaf and leather clothing. To the side when you come in there was handbuilt table using some sturdy logs, on top of it were some books, strangely coloured paper, feathers and small wooden boxes. In the corner she had a full view mirror, which was completely unexpected. She had to ask her about that one.
She left that room and went into the lefthand side, what she saw there amazed her even more. It was a simple bathroom. She had a sink and toilet made from wood. Quite medieval, something even Jess only knew from books. These were side to side on your left as you came in. And on the right, she had a shower, again very simple in design. There was a vine hanging from the ceiling. When Jess pulled it a little as a gate opened from the top, which latched onto some sort of hook to keep it in place. Behind it were a multiple number of holes. This allowed the water to come out in smaller streams as you would expect from a shower. With that she took off her clothes, started taking a shower, also a drink of water to clench her thirst.
It was so refreshing, I must say this is awesome, and totally unexpected.
After a couple of minutes, she stopped the water, she had cooled and cleaned herself enough. Took her clothes hung them up into the next room. Took one of the furs that was hanging of the wall. As Sylwanin did she started dry herself off. Whilst drying herself off kept thinking where the light came from and she looked up she realised that thereh was an LED Torch that was hanging off the ceiling. Quite clever she thought and left the side room to rejoin Sylwanin. Only to find she wasn't there. She didn't think much of it and lay down on the bed and went to sleep.
Back in the lab she woke up from her link station. She stretched as she got up. It was really strange for her, even though it has only been a few days since she arrived on Pandora, a lot has happened. She walked over to meet Max.
"How are we doing today?" asking him as she placed her hand on his shoulder from behind.
"Oh, hey. Yeah not bad. Been up to anything fun?" He asked back, as he was preparing his morning coffee. "By the way, a want one."
"Yeah that be great thanks. Yeah it was interesting, nearly got killed. Haha." she laughed as she took the extra coffee from Max. She leaned onto a table as she started sipping. Max sat down on a chair opposite.
"Woah, back down. What?" shocked from her statement. She told him about her encounter with the Viperwolves, and how she and Sylwanin almost got shredded to pieces. He was intrigued and then just laughed.
"Haha, you know you and Jake are quite similar when it gets to getting into trouble."
"Huh what ya mean with that." putting her empty mug to the side.
"It's not my place to say, but check in with Grace, Norm and Jake, they are over at the Mesa having breakfast, you should check in with them.
"Ok, will do." With that she stood up and started leaving the lab. In the lab there were a couple lockers, Jess went over to hers and took out her headphones as she headed towards the mesa to meet Jake.
Back in the hideout Sylwanin had returned, she saw Jess lying there and snuggled beside her, not aware that she was not truly there.
Jess came to the Mesa a few minutes later and saw the three of them at a table having breakfast. She went over the canteen and got herself some a tray, some chocolate cereals, an orange Juice, and a yogurt and sat down in the spare seat next to Jake.
"Hey...mhmm..here's the second one." Said Jake as he was eating a toast.
"Oh, hey guys...what I miss?" she asked curiously.
"Well you're not the only special one it seems any more. He's part of the clan now too it seems." As Grace pointed out, eating her own breakfast. Being more intrigued she asked what had happened. Jake quickly gave a brief summary. Of his experience the night before. How we were alone in the night with the viperwolves and how he got saved by Neytiri. Who then took her away to the enclave, but only after the wood sprites surprised them both.
"Haha, that's great. So how is Neytiri? Sylvie told me she's quite uptight." Laughing at the idea of Jake meeting her.
"Well, she's not that bad. But there is an element of awkwardness. She did seem surprised though when I said I was friend of yours." Pointing his piece of toast at Jess when he gestured it.
"Oh really, so thanks to meeee...she didn't kill you?" Smiling, very pleased with herself.
"No..." defensively he answered... "I would like to think it was because of my charm, thank you very much."
"Just teasing Jakie." Sticking her tongue out at him, and grinning. They continue talking a bit as they finish their breakfast. Once finished they head out of the Mesa. They were the last ones to finished as the rest had already left. Jake needed to head off and meet the General and so Jess was left on her own, she had two options. One was to rest which she didn't feel like doing, the other was to go the labs and help out her parents. Which is what she decided to do.
On the way to the lab she stopped by her own room and picked up her headphones and mp3-player. While she was there she decided to upload some new music to it and spent some time doing so. However, while busy searching and test-listening some songs. There was a knock, on the door. She didn't notice, and so someone walked in. WHAM! She smacked her hand down on the table, and Jess let out a cute squeal of shock.
"So? How's little miss trouble doing?" Looking up at her slightly pale from the sudden shock, she noticed it was Vira, with a massive grin on her face, proud of her accomplishment.
"Damn, what the hell are you so proud, ya nearly killed me." Getting back to selecting some music.
"Oh…. Come on, it was only a joke, don't be so serious grumpy." Resting her head on top of hers and arm round her neck.
"Can you not do that?" she asked, slightly annoyed.
"Nope, you're stuck with...for now...hehe." Still very pleased at annoying Jess. Ignoring her response, Jess said nothing. Moments later she gave up and sat down on her bed. "Sooo... I head what happened, come on tell me?"
"Tell you what, if you know what happened, why tell you again?"
"Weeeellll...there is knowing and there's telling what had really happened." Trying to trick her into answering. Jess couldn't help but give a little smirk. "Ha...see there it is. You might be able to fool Jake, but a girl's instinct is too strong." Posing slightly as she caught on to Jess' tell.
"I know that, but what is it you want to know?" As she is finishing up her playlist. She swings on the chair and faces her. Crossing her legs, putting her hands together in front of her mouth, trying to hide her smirk.
"Well I heard what had happened but enlighten me on the details." Lying down on her bed hands behind her head.
"What makes you think I'm going to tell you. You're the one who got me into this mess to begin with." Glaring at her from her eyes.
"Wow, Jesus...why so serious about it?" Talking very softly and calmly.
"I'm not serious at all, I'm curious." Matching the calm voice, speaking from the through her hands slightly muffled though. "You're welcome to stay, but I need to get going to the labs, I have a little research to do."
"Oh fine, I'll find out what your hiding though." Standing up and leaving. "Catch you later Jess."
So, Jess also set off, quite easily she was once again completely lost in her music after a few songs, she was skipping along to another of her favourite songs.
Hey, do you reckon Na'vi like our type of music?
You mean more like... can you interest Sylwanin in it huh?
Well, you don't need to tease me about it. But yeah.
Haha...I don't know. Guess you will have try it out at one point.
True, anyway please continue. ^^
Where was I, oh yeah...as she was skipping down the corridor, she saw Jake heading into the strategic conference room. She paid no head to him, she was not interested. She continued humming, as she listened to the next track –
"Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor on a loan..."
After about fifteen minutes of walking she came to the bio-labs. It was probably around noon she thought, which means her parents were there, so she could easily help them out a bit. She kept on thinking about Sylvie, and her thought was should she go back and see where she was but knew that she would be alright. As she came to the lab everyone there was hard at work dissecting various plants, examining cellular bioluminescent plant structures. Taking her headphones out she went over to her mother, hugging her from behind.
"Hey Mum, here to help out today." She kissed her on the cheek and stood there smiling.
"Oh, hey there sweetie. Do you not have any village matters to attend to?" she asked as turned away from the desk she was on.
"Well, yeah I guess. But I need a break you know...something different. So, what you need." Sounding very eager as she was inclined to help. There she was safely in the base working in the lab, unaware of other problems that were arriving elsewhere.
However meanwhile back at the enclave a slight problem. Sylwanin had woken up. The only problem was that she was no aware of how she can leave her body and was worried as she desperately tried to shake Jess awake. She was however not responding, not wanting to leave her side she clenched towards her wrapping herself around the motionless body, crying as she thought the worst had happened to her sweet kitten.
