Look After You

Flashback, 22 years ago

"So, you know your job Dean?" John was asking his four year old son with a smile. They had just brought Sam home from the hospital two months ago, with everyone adjusting well. Mary had taken the new born baby into the kitchen to get a bottle while John continued to watch Dean and Madison in the living room on the floor. Dean was playing with blocks while two year old Madison scribbled all through a coloring book.

"What are you teaching him now?" Mary teased, coming in to sit on the couch, cradling Sam as she gave him his bottle.

"Tell mommy your job Dean," John encouraged him.

"Beating up Mads-ies boyfriends," Dean said proudly making John laugh.

"John," Mary scolded, but laughed at the same time. "You can't teach him that!"

"Daddy bad," Madison giggled.

"Daddy's bad?" John asked with a laugh and Madison nodded, continuing to giggle. "C'mere," he said now, crawling on the floor after her, making her getting up and start running away from him. Eventually he caught her and pulled her back to him, tickling her on the floor.

"No tickles!" Madison laughed, trying to squirm away. "Deeeeeeean!" she shouted, holding her hands over her head. Dean came over and grabbed his little sister's hand and pulled her backwards, John letting her go as he stopped tickling her.

"Good," John laughed, sitting up right on the floor. "That's good, what I wanna see, you looking out for Maddie and Sammy."

"They'll all look out for each other," Mary said with a smile as Madison planted a kiss on Dean's cheek.

"Hey!" Sam broke Dean's train of thought, tossing a balled up napkin at his face. They had left the house that morning to go get breakfast on their own, with Madison and Rebekah both sleeping in while Elijah and Klaus were both awake but hardly speaking. "You wanna pass me the syrup or keep staring at your bacon?" Dean rolled his eyes as he slid the syrup across the table. "What's with you?"

"Do you think Mads is ok?" Dean asked him and Sam looked confused.

"I think she's wiped out," Sam said. "Those witches went after her last night-"

"What exactly happened?" Dean stopped him.

"You got me," Sam shrugged. "We headed there after I had that vision of them chasing her, but by that time the four of them were already dead."

"She didn't say anything?" Dean asked in confusion.

"I think she was in shock, I don't know," Sam said again. "She couldn't seem to get words out before she fainted." He shrugged again. "Brought her home to sleep it off."

"I don't like this," Dean informed him.

"And I'm so thrilled about it," Sam said sarcastically, earning an annoyed look. "We've been over this-"

"I know," Dean stopped him again. "I know, she's happy, he's good to her, I get it."

"And he's grown on you," Sam smirked at him.

"We're ok with each other," Dean said simply. "It's not them I have the problem with, it's these witches that were supposed to keep everything safe. But, I guess we never should have trusted witches in the..." He trailed off as he realized that Sam wasn't paying attention to him, but staring off to the other side of the diner. Following his gaze to see that he was checking out Cami, Dean smiled as he looked back to his younger brother.

"Speaking of staring," Dean said to get Sam's attention, getting a glare back. "What?" he laughed. "Dude, she's totally hot." He lowered his voice. "Did you meet her at the party the other night?"

"I saw her for a second," Sam clarified.

"And it was love at first sight?" Dean countered with a smirk.

"How was your road trip yesterday with Beks?" Sam asked back, using the name only Dean called her and Dean made a face.

"Bitch."

"Jerk."

Dean and Sam came home to a silent house, though everyone's cars were out front to indicate they were home. Walking into the main room they found Klaus and Elijah to be just where they left them, reading on opposite couches and still not speaking to each other. The two Mikaelson brothers hardly noticed the Winchesters enter; both Sam and Dean looked between them then back at each other.

"So," Dean finally broke the silence. "Did either of you move or speak since we left?"

"It's better than when you two get into it," Madison commented as she came downstairs in her pajama pants and tank top still, looking not only tired but almost sick. When you looked at her now, she was just barely starting to show; they could only tell because her shirt was so fitted. "Did anyone make breakfast?"

"Ah," Dean stopped and thought about it. "Blood," he pointed at Klaus, then Elijah. "Blood. Diner," he pointed to Sam then back to himself. "Diner."

"Ugh, whatever," Madison rolled her eyes, turning to walk towards the kitchen.

"I see someone got a fresh round of pregnancy hormones," Dean commented sarcastically as he went to follow her to see what happened last night. In response, Madison pushed the kitchen door so hard that it swung back and smacked Dean in the face.

"Nicely done," Klaus commented with a smirk, patting his shoulder as he walked by. "Now she's less inclined to be angry with me." Dean rolled his eyes in annoyance, but when they got into the kitchen they both wore the same look of concern. Looking Madison over, they could tell something wasn't quite right.

"Are you all right sweetheart?" Klaus asked her worriedly.

"Fine," she waved him off as she sat at the counter. "Just morning sickness, don't worry about it. We need to talk about whatever you found out," she nodded at Elijah as he came in to join Klaus and her brothers now.

"You're sure you're all right Madison?" Elijah asked her and she just nodded as Klaus sat down beside her. "Yesterday, before I came home, I had a chance to talk to Davina. She told me why the witches want her back so badly."

"To stop Marcel from using her," Sam said but Elijah shook his head.

"Davina was to be part of the harvest ritual," Elijah explained. "Four girls from the coven were supposed to die to feed the ancestral power the witches draw from, and then come back. Davina made it out with Marcel's help, and now there's only so much time before the witches run out of power completely."

"Damn," Dean commented. "Witches want to kill her and the demon's after her too."

"Demon?" Elijah asked in confusion, looking at Klaus and Madison; he didn't know that part of the story yet.

"Um," Madison said, swallowing and feeling sick. "When I was a kid, this demon killed my mom, and now it's back. It wants Davina because she's so powerful." She nodded at her brother. "Sam because he's psychic." She swallowed again as she motioned to her stomach. "And her because we," she motioned between her and Klaus. "Make such awesome...babies..."

Madison stopped as she got up, turned, and bolted out of the kitchen through the back door. Klaus got up to follow her and the others watched curiously as the door was still open while she gripped the railing on the porch, leaning over and throwing up violently. Klaus grabbed her hair for her, grimacing a little himself as he had never seen her get that sick before.

"Thank God I'm not pregnant," he heard Dean comment in the kitchen.

"You did not just say that," Sam accused and Klaus used his foot to kick the door shut.

"Ugh, I think our daughter hates me," Madison groaned, spitting into the bushes though it didn't feel like she was done getting sick yet.

"She does not," Klaus assured her.

"Mmm...of course you don't think that," Madison grumbled. "You're daddy." She threw up again. "Little girls adore their daddies." She spit one more time before pushing up on the railing to stand up straight. "Ugh," she groaned again.

"Come here," Klaus got her to turn towards him, feeling her head. "You're burning up love, I don't think it's the baby making you sick."

"Mmmm," Madison mumbled as he pushed a piece of hair out of her face to tuck it behind her ear. As he was moving her hair away, he noticed a dry blood smear on her neck.

"What is that?" Klaus asked curiously.

"What?" Madison asked in confusion.

"There's blood on your neck," Klaus told her and Madison went to look at her reflection in the glass, turning to Klaus with a panicked look in her eyes. "What is it Maddie?"

"I woke up this morning with my neck hurting, like a pinch," Madison said. "But I didn't hurt myself." He got what she was hinting at.

"Sophie," Klaus said and she nodded in agreement.

Klaus stayed at the house with Madison as she continued to get sicker, though he would love to get his hands on the witches after all this. Elijah, Dean and Rebekah had split up in the French Quarter to find Sophie. Sam had gone with one of Esther's spells to talk to Davina. Elijah had originally made the arrangement with her to bring her spells to practice, but with both of them being targeted by the demon Sam thought that he should go. With him, he had a spell that would unlink Madison and Sophie. Walking upstairs to the attic, he knocked on the door gently.

"Marcel?" Davina asked, opening the door. She jumped when she saw who it was.

"It's ok," Sam promised. "I'm not gonna hurt you." He showed her the spell. "Elijah told me he was gonna give you this." He motioned to himself. "My name's-"

"Sam," Davina stopped him. "Sam Winchester, I know." He was surprised. "I have dreams about you, about your sister and her baby." She paused. "The man with the yellow eyes gives them to me."

"You know about him?" Sam asked as she let him inside.

"I know he's coming," Davina told him, seeming afraid. "And I know I can't stop him."

"Hey," Sam stopped her. "You and me, we're in this together, all right? He's coming after both of us, and I won't let that happen. I think we can help each other."

"You need my help with something," Davina observed, not seeming happy about it. Everyone always wanted her for something.

"If you know me," Sam reminded her. "You know I've been hunting for a long time and that I can help you too." Davina hesitated.

"What spell is that?" she asked.

"What took you so long?" Klaus asked angrily as Elijah got back to the house with Sophie. He had left Dean and Rebekah in the Quarter to find Agnes and the others who had come up with this plan against Madison and her baby.

"We're here now," Elijah informed him. "Tell them," he said to Sophie, seeing Madison laying on the couch behind where Klaus was standing, looking like she was about to be sick all over again.

"It was Agnes and the others who went after you last night," Sophie started off.

"I killed them," Madison said in disbelief as she sat up slowly on the couch, feeling dizzy as she did so.

"There's more," Sophie continued to explain. "You have to know I had nothing to do with that. All right? If you die, I die."

"And that would be a real shame," Madison muttered sarcastically. Elijah gave her a serious look, what she called his serious big brother face, and she rolled her eyes.

"Why are they going after Maddie and the baby?" Klaus asked. "I thought you all were supposed to be keeping them safe." Sophie sighed.

"Sabine had this vision the other night when she stopped by," Sophie went on. "I don't know, they never really make sense or anything..." They were all looking at her in expectation. "She thinks your baby is going to kill all the witches."

"Oh, well you're right sweetheart," Klaus said to Madison. "We do make awesome babies." Madison ignored the comment, getting up and stepping closer to Sophie.

"So you mean to tell me," Madison said with a deathly serious tone. "That your stupid stunt of linking us together is what's going to get me and my baby killed?"

"Do you think I want," Sophie started to snap as everyone seemed to forget that she would die too, but was cut off when Madison cocked her fist back and smashed it into Sophie's mouth, busting her lip open. Sophie stumbled back as Madison wiped blood away from her own mouth.

"Worth it," Madison muttered under her breath as she pushed through to the kitchen to get some ice.

"I can't do this," Davina huffed in frustration as she failed at another attempt at the un-linking spell. She wanted to help Sam and his sister because she believed that they could help her. She loved Marcel, he had saved her from the witches, but he had no idea what he was up against with this demon. She had been having dreams for months, ever since she had been pulled from the chaos of the harvest ritual. The way she saw it, she had a better chance with Sam's help.

"It's ok Davina," Sam assured her, coming over closer to her from where he had been sitting. "Just take a second and relax-"

"Relax?" Davina scoffed. "I'm helping a psychic and his sister who's pregnant with an original's baby and linked to the witch that tried to kill me."

"You're strong enough," Sam encouraged her. "I've been hunting as long as I can remember and I've never seen power like yours. You just need to focus it, ok?"

"I don't know," Davina hesitated. After all, this power is what seemed to have caught this demon's attention in the first place, making her more nervous over what she possessed.

"I do," Sam promised. "I trust you. Trust me, ok?"

"Do you want to tell me what we're being brought in here for?" Agnes was demanding of the police officers as they brought her and two other witches into the church.

"Thanks Father K," Dean was telling him as he and Rebekah came out now. The two of them had been running all over the city all day to find out more about Agnes and her whereabouts. They found out she planned to hurt Madison and her baby through a cursed object that she used on Sophie, rather than using magic and getting caught by Marcel. Looking into it further, it turned out she used the same kind of object on Sean, Father Kieran's nephew to make him go crazy and kill himself as well as others. With that in mind, and the fact that Kieran and John were once friends, the priest was more than willing to help the two of them track down Agnes.

"You're helping the hunters?" Agnes asked in disbelief, looking between the three of them. "And the vampires?"

"After what you did-"

"Easy," Dean stepped between the two of them, though he knew if he were Kieran he'd want to take her head off; he wasn't far behind him after what was happening to Madison.

"You have to know why I'm doing this," Agnes was saying to Dean now. "Don't you? You're a hunter Dean. What would your father think of his future grandchild?"

"That she's adorable," Dean smirked at her as he sat in the pew in front of her, turned to face her. "I mean, not as cute as I was, but, you know."

"I know your sister is going to give birth to something evil," Agnes warned him.

"That's enough," Rebekah stopped her, tired of hearing this about her niece. "You need to undo the curse on Madison now." Sam had texted, warning that the spell wasn't going well so far with Davina and they might need another way to save Madison and the baby.

"There's no way to stop a cursed object," Agnes told her with a mean smile. "Your niece will be gone by tonight."

"Well then," Rebekah smiled back. "I guess there's no use in having this conversation anymore. Is there?" Before Dean and Kieran knew it, Agnes hit the floor with a broken neck.

"Really?" Dean asked her.

"You can have the other two," Rebekah told him nonchalantly.

With the link between them still not broken, Sophie instructed them all outside with her best idea to get Madison's temperature down; they were going to have to get into the pool. Klaus climbed in first, helping Madison in while Sophie walked down the stairs into the water. Rebekah and Dean arrived home now, racing outside when the realized that was where everyone else was.

"What's going on?" Rebekah asked Elijah worriedly as they joined him on the side of the pool.

"They're trying to lower Madison's temperature," Elijah explained. "Sam called, he said Davina is close to unlinking them." He looked at them both curiously. "How was the talk with Agnes?"

"Like you'd expect," Dean commented, looking into the water with worry. Klaus was wading out further into the water so that it came up to his and Madison's shoulders.

"Did you hear that sweetheart?" Klaus was trying to soothe Madison. "Elijah said Sam called, it's almost over all right?"

"It hurts so much," Madison said, instinctively touching her stomach.

"I know," Klaus promised, kissing her head as he held her closer, her head burning up with a fever. "Just try to relax for me love. You're both going to be fine."

"If we lose her-"

"Don't talk like that," Klaus stopped her, getting her to look at him. "We're not going to, all right? She is me and she is you. And you are the strongest person I've met in my entire life."

"Ah," Madison gasped, clutching her stomach in agony.

"Can't you do something?" Dean was shouting at Sophie now.

"If I use magic," Sophie started but then stopped as she felt something pass over her; it was over. "She did it."

"What?" Dean asked in confusion.

"Davina did it," Sophie said as Madison still clung to Klaus in the water like he was a life preserver. "Look." She demonstrated by taking out one of her earrings and pricking her hand with it; Madison looked and her own hand was unharmed. With this realization, she slowly let go of Klaus, swimming over to where Sophie was.

"Elijah told us why you did this," Madison told her. "For your family, your niece?" she questioned and Sophie nodded appreciatively as Madison leaned in closer to her to whisper. "That's why I'm going to give you a head start." As she pulled away, Sophie looked at her in surprise.

"I'd get running if I were you," Klaus informed her, smirking as Madison was back to her old self.

After the madness was over and Madison was unlinked from Sophie, they all went back inside to unwind after a long night. Sam remained in the Quarter at the church, talking with Davina more about his plan to keep her safe. Though it was late, no one felt like they could sleep, and Rebekah offered to make Madison some tea while she went upstairs to shower away the pool water.

"Hey," Dean caught Klaus's attention as he came into the living room. "I checked on Mads, but are you ok?"

"Quite the close call tonight," Klaus commented and Dean nodded in agreement. "I really appreciate you and Rebekah going to find Agnes."

"That's my niece," Dean said like it was obvious, but he smiled. "That's what families do."

"And what a family we have now," Elijah agreed as he joined the two of them.

"Aw, really," Madison said with a hint of sarcasm as she came down the stairs. "You guys are so sweet, I might actually puke."

"And the hormones are back," Dean commented, earning a middle finger from his sister as she stood on the stairs still. They all jumped a little when they heard the front door swing open and then slam shut as Marcel came storming into the house. Because he was closer to the stairs, Elijah instinctively moved to stand in front of Madison, who was like his own younger sister, though Klaus and Dean were both quick to their feet.

"Where is she?" Marcel demanded.

"Rebekah!" Klaus immediately assumed. "Did you hurt Marcel's feelings agai-"

"Not Bekah," Marcel snapped. "Davina. Where is she?"

"Davina's gone?" Madison asked in confusion, throwing a concerned glance at Dean.

"Are you deaf and out of the loop?" Marcel asked her, getting shoved by Dean.

"Don't talk to my sister like that," he warned.

"Why shouldn't I?" Marcel demanded. "It was your brother that ran off with her!" He turned to Klaus. "I knew letting you and these hunters into this town was going to be a huge mistake."

"That's enough," Klaus stopped him, getting angry at Marcel's tone as well. "Someone better start explaining what is going on."

"Like you don't know," Marcel snapped. "I know this had to be something you all pulled off with the witches. I went up to the attic to check on Davina and Sam was there. The witches must have been burning something because the whole place wreaked and filled up with this black smoke-"

"Black smoke?" Dean cut him off and Marcel rolled his eyes.

"Yes," Marcel answered him. "Before I know it my neck's broken, I wake up, and they're both..."

"Dean!" Madison called after her older brother as he was already marching towards the door. She pushed by the others to go after him.

"What the hell is going on?" Marcel asked, Rebekah joining them now but not for long.

"Black smoke doesn't mean witches," Rebekah informed him. "It means demons." With that, she raced to catch up with Dean and Madison.

"Dean, wait up," Madison said, cutting him off in the doorway.

"Oh no," Dean shook his head. "No, no, no. You are absolutely on lock down." He looked to Elijah and Klaus. "We're gonna need salt on all the doors and windows, all right? And she's not going anywhere," he emphasized.

"You're not," Klaus told her firmly.

"No, I know," Madison said, realizing it was obviously too dangerous out there if the demon came for Davina and Sam; she didn't just have herself to think about, but her daughter as well. "But you can't go out there by yourself."

"I'll go with him," Rebekah promised.

"And what do you expect to find in that church?" Madison asked Dean. "A road map with a big red X on the spot where Sam is?"

"Dammit Mads, would you just listen to me for once?" Dean argued with her and she crossed her arms over herself. With the demon out there, she didn't want Dean flying off the handle into this. Yeah, Sam was gone but they weren't even close to having a plan. Dean's make it up as he went routine was likely to get him killed.

"Fine," Madison told him.

"Call Bobby," Dean instructed now as he grabbed his bag by the door and backed out of the doorway, Rebekah following him. "And Ash. Get them up to speed and see what they think, we'll be back soon all right?"

"Hey!" Madison shouted out the door after him. "Why don't you listen to me for once and be careful?"

"It's Sammy Mads," Dean told her.

"I know," Madison promised. "But, it's you too."

"I'll be fine," Dean promised back. "Just call Bobby and Ash, all right?"

"Fine," Madison agreed, turning back after closing the door and seeing that the others had already sped around the house and laid down the salt lines. "I guess vampire speed really comes in handy," Madison said, trying to be light.

"What else do you need us to do?" Elijah was asking her. "Niklaus was telling me there's devil's traps or-"

"I already put those under the doormats weeks ago," Madison mumbled as she pulled her phone from her pocket.

"Of course you did," Klaus smiled at his girl. "Who are you calling love?"

"Ash," she said in annoyance as she held the phone to her ear. "To find out why I didn't hear about any damn...hey!" she said as Ash answered. "Oh nothing, did you just maybe forget to call me about something?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Ash asked in confusion, rubbing his eyes sleepily as he had just gone off to bed.

"The demon omens you were supposed to be watching out for," Madison reminded him sarcastically.

"There hasn't been a demon omen in weeks," Ash told her. "Not a crop failure, lightening storm, possession, nothing."

"You're shitting me," Madison accused. "Ash, Sam is missing. The demon showed up and took him and that witch Davina tonight." She paused, listening to him explain that he was going to start looking to see if any omens were picking back up to show where Sam might be. "Thank you," she said as she hung up, tears brimming her eyes. "Sam's gone," she finally said out loud. "It took him away, it-"

"I know," Klaus hugged her tight. "I know. But we'll get him back. Both of them."

"SAM!" Dean shouted through the church.

"He's not here Dean," Rebekah tried to calm him down. "Let's go back to the house and call you're Uncle Bobby and-"

"You don't understand Beks," Dean stopped her.

"You're right," Rebekah agreed. "None of my brothers have ever gone missing like this, but-"

"No, this is my job," Dean argued with her.

"Your job?" Rebekah asked in confusion.

"Since I was a kid, I was supposed to watch out for Maddie and Sam," Dean told her. "And I messed up."

"I don't think this was in your job description," Rebekah assured him. "We'll get your brother back Dean, ok?" She hugged him once. "Promise."
