Hey, everybody. I am sorry it took so long to get this up. I have been focused on other stories, mainly my Arrowverse/MCU crossovers (which you should go check out if you haven't already).. I'll try to keep from going this long without updating again.
AvengersFan: None of the other Avengers will be coming to Middle-Earth.
Guest: At least one of them will meet her here in Rivendell.
Chapter 9- Rivendell
Steve looks around in amazement as Gandalf leads the Company along the bridge leading into Rivendell. The sheer beauty of this place is breathtaking. More than that, there's just an overwhelming feeling of peace in this place.
Steve looks up as they pass two large stone statues. The statues are of two armored warriors, who Steve assumes are Elves, though their helmets mask most of their features.
The Company stops in a small circle at the end of the bridge. Gandalf looks around, seeming to be waiting for somebody. Steve, Bucky, and T'Challa look around, taking in the sight of Rivendell.
"Mithrandir!" a voice suddenly calls out. Everybody turns to see an Elf walking down a set of stairs towards them. He's dressed in a purple robe, and wearing a silver circlet on his brow. He has long hair that goes down to his shoulders, and pointed ears. More than that, he has a feeling of grace and wisdom about him.
"Ah! Lindir," Gandalf says in greeting. Lindir smiles and inclines his head to Gandalf respectfully. As he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he says something in Elvish to Gandalf.
Trying to keep the conversation in language everyone can understand, Gandalf says in English, "I must speak with Lord Elrond."
"My Lord Elrond is not here," Lindir replies in English.
"Not here? Where is he?" Gandalf asks.
Lindir is about to respond when the sound of the horns they heard earlier splits the air, and everyone in the Company turns towards the sound. Gandalf smiles as he also turns to see a troop of Rivendell's cavalry riding in across the bridge. However, not everybody is of the opinion that such a sight is friendly one.
Thorin shouts a command in Dwarvish before ordering in English, "Close ranks!" Bofur pulls Bilbo into the center of the circle. Steve looks between them and the approaching Elves a few times, wondering what has caused this animosity.
The Elves ride into the circular area where the Company is standing and quickly begin circling them. Steve, Bucky, and T'Challa watch how the Elves move. Even though they're armed in a medieval way, it's clear they are a well-trained fighting unit.
As the Elves reign in their horses, one Elf separates from the rest. He's wearing an intricate suit of armor, and has black hair flowing down to his shoulders. He is wearing a diadem like Lindir, though his is gold.
"Gandalf," the Elf says cheerfully in greeting.
"Lord Elrond!" Gandalf replies cheerfully before inclinng his head and saying in Elvish, "Mellonin." Having been taught a few Elvish words already by Gandalf, Steve, Bucky, and T'Challa realize he must have said something akin to "my friend".
Steve stares at Elrond, absolutely stunned. Elrond looks exactly like his old enemy, Johann Schmidt. He knows this is another world, but Schmidt disappeared during their fight back in the 40s. Maybe he had been sent here, and was masquerading as Elrond as part of a plan to take over this world? But, Steve tries to shake that out of his mind. It's clear that Gandalf trusts him, and knowing Gandalf is a wizard, he finds it hard to imagine that Schmidt could hope to hide his true intentions from Gandalf.
Gandalf and Elrond have a brief exchange in Elvish, or Sindarin as Steve remembers Gandalf calling the language, before Elrond dismounts and shares a friendly embrace with Gandalf. After the two separate, Elrond switches into English as he says, "Strange for Orcs to come so close to our borders. Someone, or something, has drawn them near."
"Oh, that may have been us," Gandalf says, turning Elrond's attention to the Company as Thorin steps forward, trying to remind Gandalf who is in charge of this Company.
Elrond steps forward and says in a regal tone, "Hail, Thorin. Son of Thrain."
"I do not believe we have met," Thorin says.
"You have your grandfather's bearing. I knew Thror when he ruled under the mountain," Elrond says.
"Indeed. He made no mention of you," Thorin replies, suspicion creeping into his voice.
Elrond looks Thorin over for a few moments before he begins speaking slowly in Sindarin. Given his tone, when he finishes, Gloin gets defensive and demands, "What is he saying? Does he offer us insult?"
The rest of the dwarves start to get riled up before Gandalf cuts them off with, "No, Master Gloin. He is offering you food."
The dwarves quickly huddle up, muttering to each other. A few seconds later, they turn back towards Elrond as Gloin says, "Well, in that case, lead on."
Steve chuckles at that. That draws Elrond's attention to the three Avengers. He looks them over, intrigued by their appearance, before he asks, "And what are men such as you doing with this Company?"
Gandalf smiles proudly. "These three men are some of the greatest men I have ever known. Captain Steve Rogers. Bucky Barnes. And King T'Challa of Wakanda. The Avengers known as Captain America, the Winter Soldier, and the Black Panther," he says with pride. He then adds, "They are accompanying us while they search for a way back to their home."
Elrond looks at Gandalf, then back at the three Avengers. "It is a pleasure to meet you three," he says. His gaze lingers on T'Challa for a moment before he says, "Come with us. All of you. And we will see that you get the food you desire so much." Steve and Bucky both chuckle, and the Company follows Elrond. As they do, Steve leans over to Elrond and says, "Just so you know, you might want to make sure you have plenty of meat on the table."
Elrond smiles appreciatively and says, "Thank you for reminding me, Captain Rogers." He whispers a few commands to Lindir, who hurries off to make sure there will be meat for the Dwarves.
A few hours later, most of the dwarves are all seated around a table. The Elves were just able to get some meat on the table in time for the start of dinner. A group of Elven musicians is playing some soothing music nearby.
At a table aside from the rest of the Company, Steve, Bucky, and T'Challa have joined Elrond, Gandalf, and Thorin. At Gandalf's request, Bucky has brought the sword he found in the troll cave.
Before they start eating, Elrond asks to see the swords. THorin hands him his first. Elrond draws it out of the sheath a few inches, examines it, then declares, "This is Orcrist. The Goblin Cleaver. A famous blade, forged by the High Elves of the West. My kin." He then hands it back to Thorin and says, "May it serve you well." Thorin takes the sword and inclines his head respectfully.
Elrond then picks up Gandalf's sword and examines it. "And this is Glamdring," he says in awe as he draws it part of the way out of the sheath. "The Foe Hammer. Sword of the King of Gondolin. These swords were made for the Goblin Wars of the First Age."
He hands Glamdring back to Gandalf, then reaches out his hand to Bucky, who hands him the sword. Elrond partially draws it out, and looks at it in amazement. "This is Anguirel. The sword wielded by Maeglin. One of two forged by the Dark Elf Eol," he says. He then hands it back to Bucky as he says, "The last owner of this race was traitor, whose actions saw the destruction of Gondolin. I pray you can bring a better name to this sword." Bucky accepts the sword, now determined not to let this Maeglin's legacy be the only legacy of this sword.
Elrond turns to Gandalf and asks, "How did you come by these?"
"We found them in a troll hoard on the Great East Road, shortly before we were ambushed by Orcs," Gandalf explains.
Elrond turns to look at Thorin and asks suspiciously, "And what were you doing on the Great East Road?" Thorin looks back at him coldly before excusing himself and walking away.
They all look after Thorin as he walks away. Then, Elrond looks at Steve and asks, "I am curious to know more of the other company Gandalf said you belonged to. The Avengers. Perhaps you could tell me more?"
Steve nods and says, "In order for us to tell you the story. You have to know… we are not from this world. We come from another world, and were transported here by an accident."
Elrond looks intrigued. "From another world, you say?" he asks.
Steve nods and replies, "Yes. And you see, on our world, there was an idea…"
And, I'll end there. Hope you liked the way I ended it.
Next chapter should be up in a week or two, and will feature the White Council. Let me know which Avenger you would like to have attend the White Council.
That it for now. Stay tuned for the next one!
