Spurned and Burned (Part 1)
Even though it's a weekday, Lysander, Castiel and I have planned to get together to practice some music. I was proud to have finished the music to my song in time but all the while I couldn't get Deborah out of my head. Her words and her actions from the day I confronted her make shivers go up and down my spine alone. To be honest I'm not sure what I should do. So I turn to the only person I can, Lysander; I know that no matter what he'll believe what I have to say or at least listen to me. it was last minute but I asked him to meet me at my place a couple of hours before we were to meet up at Castiels. When I mentioned her name alone he agreed to come over instantly. Now I'm sitting here waiting for him to show up. nothing needs cleaning up and nothing is really out of place but I still feel restless, most likely due to the topic we will be discussing. Finally the doorbell rings and I race over to the door. When I open it a very serious looking Lysander stands in the doorway,
"Sorry it was such a sudden call." I say allowing him to enter,
"It's ok; I've been curious to find out what Deborah's real aim is myself anyway. What did you tell Castiel about this?"
"I didn't say anything; I figured since we were meeting a couple of hours earlier than we were supposed to it wasn't really necessary." Lysander thinks for a moment before giving a satisfied nod,
"it's probably best he doesn't know anyway… so what is it what did you find out?" I bite my lower lip before taking a deep breath.
"You were right she is up to something…" he gives me a questionable look before squinting his eyes.
"What did you find out?" I divert my gaze from his, "Or I guess I should ask what did you do?" I'm still unable to say anything or even look him in the eyes as I bite my lower lip. "Ow!" suddenly my ear is being pulled and pinched like a child being scolded,
"What did you do Fae?" Lysander asks more stern this time; while he still as a grip on my ear I start talking,
"I…kinda sorta… confronted Deborah about her being here…"
"kinda sorta…?!" he yanks on my ear again,
"I did! I mean I did…talk to her about it…" he releases my ear,
"Why?! do you even realize how stupid a move that was?!"
"I know I'm sorry!"
"you can't just go and bring something like that up to a person, especially when that person is a potential enemy! Why would you do-damn it Fae…!"
"I know I'm sorry but I couldn't just sit by and watch her do what she wanted. I didn't want anything to happen to the others. so I just confronted her; I mean she was looking at the student files and sneaking around not to mention that tattoo he had- she was just all bad news. I wasn't about to just let her do what she wanted."
"you are loyal to a fault you know that?"
"Sorry…"
"well what's done is done…if she leaves then-"
"She's not leaving Lysander; she made that pretty clear. She's just getting started." He folds his arms,
"What exactly happened when you talked to her?" I start from the beginning telling about how I caught her in the act of reading student records as if she was looking for something in particular about them. I tell about how her whole character changed when I brought up why she was here. as soon as I mention the Tattoo and what it looked like the color leaves his face; it surprises me that Lysander of all people could have such a look on his face. "That's…not good. It would explain a lot, her sudden appearance, her interest in learning about the students through their records…she could be gathering intel among other things."
"So what do we do? Do we tell Kerington?"
"And have her blow a gasket? No not yet. You may have seen it with your own eyes; but we still need proof that Deborah is not who she says she is. in the mean time you and I need to pretend like things are still normal. more importantly…I don't like the sound of her threats."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm talking about what she said to you. She didn't say she would do something to the school or the students if you tried anything; she singled you out specifically."
"Meaning…?"
"Meaning she's going to find a way specifically to take care of you if you keep interfering. She may even try to take you out before that even happens." I bite my lower lip, "you need to be careful around her; don't let her catch you off guard or by yourself."
"so what are you going to do?"
"For the time being there isn't really all that much I can do. My powers have to do with the mind and she has some strong barriers up in hers. Getting through them isn't going to be easy, getting through while going undetected is going to be even harder. Not to mention when I spot her or come into contact with her it will be at irregular times; I don't have any classes with her."
"So you can't really do that much of anything from your own stand point."
"Like I said we'll basically have to wait this all out and see what her aim is…I do have connections though through my clan…I'll see if there may be someone who can dig up some information on her in the mean time but I'm afraid that's about all we can do at the moment." Lysander walks closer to me looking at the pendent hanging from my neck; he lifts up the glass preserved snowflake, "I especially don't like the interest she's taken in Castiel…she knows much more than what she's letting on about him."
"Have you said anything about her to him?" I ask, "I mean if she's after him or anything like that?" Lysander shakes his head,
"no nothing yet… I haven't been able to get in contact with him for the past couple of days." Again I bite my lower lip,
"Should we tell him?"
"I don't think it's a good idea for the time being; she's already sunk her claws into him it may not be best to go blabbing to him."
"Castiel doesn't have a loose mouth though, does he?" I ask.
"No not really but we don't know what that girl is capable of; it's better to be safe than sorry… For the time being let's try to act as normal as possible. We don't want Deborah to know that we're anymore suspicious of her as we are now." I nod still letting my worries get the better of me. I'm not too sure if there's much I can do either. "hey…Castiel told me that you were writing your own music for your song."
"Oh- yeah um it still needs some tweeking but do you want to see it?" Lysander smiles softly nodding.
It's funny but I've come to think of Lysander as a big brother of sorts. He's seems to always be cool and collected but he worries just like everyone else. He can be strict when it comes to certain things like music but it's because he cares. He's always watching over people. I wonder how long he's been watch out for Castiel and even me. he's a really good guy. I stop in my tracks noticing something, "Ah… I'm not thinking about her anymore or anything related to her…did he notice that I was worrying about it. well it's not like I was hiding it but he just casually switched the topic so naturally I didn't even realize it. hee hee…he really is like an older brother…
…
I enter the school grounds and right off the bat I notice something is out of the ordinary. I get suspicious glances from the students; even amber and her crew looks at me with evil smirks as usual but it seems like it of disbelief or something. feeling uncomfortable I head inside and head for my locker.
"F-Fae…!" before I can even enter my combination Kenny shows up with Kim, Nathan and even Castiel. The two of them usually hate each other but now they're just walking in the group together ignoring the other person. For some reason they either look concerned or suspicious of me. Kenny however is nearly in tears shaking for some reason,
"What's…going on…?"
"Y-you didn't really do it did you?" Kenny asks.
"do what?"
"There's a rumor going around that the principal wants to see you; she ain't too happy either." Kim says arms folded as she sort of glares,
"why would she want to see me?"
"Fae?" I turn to Nathan, "You weren't in the student records room the other day were you?"
"What?"
"We have a witness who says they saw you in the Records room looking at files…"
"What?! N-no I didn't look at anything like that!"
"Deborah says she saw you go in there yourself." I'm shocked to hear Castiel of all people say that to me; my feelings hurt I become angry,
"I didn't snoop!"
"if you didn't snoop then what were you doing in there?" Nathan asks. I turn away from him not able to tell them what really happened; but I have no excuse to come up with. "Fae." Nathan calls to me more gently this time and I turn back to him, "I don't believe that you would actually snoop you're not that kind of person. I'm asking as the student president nothing more nothing less…it's my job to make sure things stay calm for the other students. I'm wanting to hear what your side is that all." Although his words are genuine he give s me enough time to come up with an excuse that I can prove too if needed.
"yes I did go in there but I didn't do it on purpose…" I open my locker and pull out a tan colored folder similar to the ones in the records room, "this is most likely what Deborah saw…I went in there thinking it was a class room when I got a call from my aunt. I had homework for this class that day and I was trying to check what the assignment was over while I was talking on the phone. I didn't realize until after I left the room that I had made a mistake." I hand the folder over to Nathan so he can see and he opens up the folder looking inside it. he nods with satisfaction.
"ok I get it. thanks for telling the truth; I'll go and explain it to the principal. Do you mind if I hold onto this folder for the time being?"
"No."
"you've been acting kind of funny lately Fae…I'm not sure if I can just believe you right off the bat."
"Kim…"
"first you wouldn't show Deborah around the school like you said and now she sees you doing that. To be honest I'm not sure I can believe your story just like that…" Kim says before walking off. Her words hurt but all I can do is take them. it's not like I don't deserve them to some extent; I did just lie.
"don't worry Fae I'm sure she'll come around. Wait for me Kim!" Kenny chases after her and Nathan quietly leaves. I'm left alone with Castiel,
"Fae?" I glare at him for a moment before turning to my locker and getting my things together, "Fae?"
"What you want to say you don't believe me too?" I snap.
"I didn't say that!"
"No but that's what you meant." I turn to meet his gaze nearly in tears,
"That's not what I meant!"
"You sure sounded like you did! 'Deborah said' did you really take her side over mine like just like that! I mean you don't even know her and yet-!"
"What was I supposed to think when she said that?" I look up at him for a moment I don't even recognize him; he seems hurt but at the same time he's looking at me as if he expected to hear someone say something like that about me.
"You're…you're awful…Castiel. How can you even say that? How long have you known me?!" I can no longer hold back my tears; I want to tell him so badly now that it's Deborah, that she's the one who he should be suspecting not me but I remember what Lysander says and somehow manage to keep myself from saying it. but it doesn't stop me from saying how I feel right now, "You took Deborah's side over mine…and you said with such finality that you wouldn't even listen to what I had to say." He doesn't respond as he looks away, "you of all people should know me better than that; like I would actually do something like that. You're awful for even entertaining that idea…" I slam my locker shut before leaving him behind. Heading for the bathroom I try to calm myself down. in just the span of a few minutes two people I called friends have suddenly accused me of something I would never do like I'm some sort of bad person. Kim I can somewhat understand since we've only been friends for about half a year now but for Castiel to be able to think even for the slightest instant that I would do something like that is something else entirely.
He should know me better than that. Him of all people should know. Wait…it's not their fault though. they both mentioned Deborah…did she…did Deborah do something to turn them against me like that?
"Well that was quite the show; bravo Fae." My eyes widen at who's standing there. "I hope you don't take it too personally I didn't need the unwanted attention though. although I have to say that was a nice little lie you gave them out there." Deborah sneers and I glare,
"What did you do?"
"Oh I merely gave the principal a bit of a tip off about how you were trying to be daring and snooped where you shouldn't is all."
"That I get; I'm talking about my friends. What did you do to them…!"
"oh those lamers? I really didn't do that much of anything; you see though that's my talent. With just a few words I can turn friends against each other; and I don't even have to use any magic for it they just follow what I say. Of course this is just the beginning."
"What?"
"I told it was your funeral right? This is just a taste of what's to come…but you know I am a nice girl so how about I give you one last chance to make it up to me. if you get on your knees and beg me to leave you alone and if you stay quiet about me I'll let you be and I'll give you back your friends." She smiles wickedly.
I can't believe this girl…! She doesn't care who she uses nor if anyone get hurt in the process! Amber doesn't even come close to being a witch compared to this girl. You can do what you want to me but I will not allow you to hurt my friends!
Ice shoots from my hand and shatters on the wall behind her; Deborah doesn't even move nor flinch at the attack as she watches ice and snow swirl around me as my anger rises,
"Go to HELL…!" I declare. It's dead silent for a long time before Deborah finally moves.
"Fine then have it your way…but don't say I didn't warn you. Tah-tah Fae…" and with that our second confrontation comes to a close.
