A/N: so it begins...
"You're fucking high," Rosalie informed me, not for the first time today. I rolled my eyes and threw the sweater I was folding at her. She caught it and tossed it back into my laundry basket. "I'm just saying, who the fuck moves in with a guy she's knew for a matter of weeks?"
"I'm sorry, weren't you the one who said it might not be a bad idea? Besides nobody said anything about moving in with anyone, I really didn't agree to anything dramatic. I haven't been working really since I met him and he stays here all the time anyway, I just agreed to continue doing what I'm doing."
"Oh honey, if you honestly believe that I feel sorry for you." Now it was my turn to throw a shirt at her. She laughed, "so when do I get to meet Prince Charming?" This caused me to hesitate, a towel in hand as I thought about that question. Were we there? Do we meet each other's friends now.
"Umm… I don't know; we haven't really talked about that kind of thing."
"What have you talked about," she didn't say it like a question, more like a point. Before I could retort, there was a knock on the door and we both looked at each other in surprise. "Are you expecting someone?"
Emmett Cullen stood outside my door with his giant, cherub grin and two men in Cullen Enterprises uniforms. "Hey Belly Bean!"
I couldn't help returning the smile, though I eyed him speculatively. "Emmett," I greeted him. "What are you doing here?"
"Eddie asked me to come by, figured if this two knuckle heads showed up on their own you might not let them in." My confusion must be obvious on my face because he straightened his jacket, putting on an exaggerated business persona. "We're here to install your state of the art security system."
I contemplated not letting them in but Emmett was right, or I guess Edward was right, I wasn't going to shut the door on Emmett. Instead I stepped aside with a scowl and he lead the two technicians into the living room, shutting the door behind them. I huffed, probably a little petulantly, and Emmett seemed amused as I stomped into the bedroom in search of my phone.
"What the hell," Rose asked, taking in my irritated appearance. "Who was it?"
I ignored her, snatching my phone off the dresser and dialing Edward's number. He answered after two rings and I didn't give him a chance to speak. "How dare you go behind my back, and get your brother involved, to invade my privacy! I told you that I didn't want or need one of your stupid security systems, you had no right to send them here!"
I stopped, my heart pounding with adrenaline and I was breathing hard from my little rant. Edward still hadn't said anything and I checked my screen to make sure he hadn't hung up. When I placed the phone back to my ear I heard the loud but melodic laughter of a woman, echoing in the room she was in and filling my ear with the soft sound. "Oh Bella darling, I'm so sorry; Edward is in a meeting."
"Oh umm-" I hesitated, looking at Rose with wide eyes. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Oh not at all," the woman interrupted, a small giggle in her tone. "Edward and Emmett were always dragging each other into their schemes as children and I'm not surprised to know that hasn't changed." Her words surprised me; children? "How rude of me, please excuse my manners. My name is Esme Cullen, I'm Edward's mother."
"Edward's… mother…" I reiterated and she giggled again. "Mrs. Cullen I am so sorry, that was so rude of me…"
Rose's eyes widened dramatically and she collapsed on the bed, burying her face in my pillow and bursting into a fit of laughter. "Bella dear, don't you dare apologize and please call me Esme. I can see what has my Edward so infatuated with you, he needs a strong woman to keep him in line."
I smiled awkwardly then remembered she couldn't see me. "Umm yes ma'am."
"So tell me, when will you be joining us for dinner?"
"I uh…" I heard Esme speak again, this time away from the phone, and a muffled male voice responded. I waited patiently as the two exchanged words a few times and then Edward's voice came on the phone.
"Bella? I'm sorry, I was in a meeting and left my phone charging. Apparently," he emphasised the word, "my mother can't be trusted not to snoop. Is everything okay?"
"Yes, I mean no, I mean… umm… we can talk later."
"Okayyy," he said suspiciously. "I assume that Emmett has made it to your house by now?"
"Uh-huh," I responded, remembering my earlier anger.
"I see," he sighed. "Well I guess we'll talk about this later then. I'll call you tonight?"
"Yeah, I'll be here," I told him and then ended the call.
Rose was laying on the bed, watching me with amused eyes and I flopped down beside her, groaning dramatically into the bedding and causing her to laugh out loud. I grabbed a pillow and smacked her with it, which only caused her to laugh harder. "I love you, Bella; I swear your timing is just impeccable."
"Shut up, whore," I grumbled, rolling onto my back and looking up at the ceiling. What the hell had I gotten myself in to.
"Bella," Emmett called from the living room. "Did you want to come set up your pass code?"
Rose got up and pulled me to my feet, following me into the living room and slapping me on the ass as I walked out of the room. "I hate you," I told her and she only blew me a kiss.
Emmett was talking to the two technicians when we walked in, excitedly explaining something about the interactive interface of their 'latest system' and the two men looked intent on his every word but their eyes told me they wanted to be anywhere but having this conversation. "Okay, so what we're gonna do is press menu, settings, security profiles, profile 1, enter her name and select security code," Emmett said as he walked the technicians through the steps. He looked to me and I stepped forward to enter my security code on the touch screen they had mounted beside my front door. "Then press enter and select record fingerprint," Emmett gestured to the screen which prompted me to place my right fingers in the designated five circles.
"Is this really necessary," I asked, exasperated by the over the top piece of equipment.
Emmett didn't respond, only grinned as he pressed complete and the touch pad returned to its home screen. "Hello Bella," a pre-recorded female voice greeted me and Emmett beamed at me.
"Holy shit, that's some serious machinery. We could definitely use that in the shop," Rosalie commented, drawing everyone's attention to her.
I wish I had words to describe the way that Emmett looked at her the first time he laid eyes on Rosalie. It was a euphoric look, one I might have only ever associated with the look of a man whose life has been saved. It was as if she were his own personal savior, an angel sent to carry him from the brink of death to his eternal life. Emmett Cullen was head over heels for Rosalie Hale.
