Chapter 10:
Artie's POV:
I rush to Celeste's side. "Celeste, Celeste, please stay with me. Please don't leave me." She stares up at me, her eyes growing hazy. "Artie? Where are you? I can't see anything." 'She's gone blind again.' Shrek breaks free of his chains and rushes Charming. I can see the dragon over the tower and I pull Celeste out of the way as Shrek pushes in the way of the falling tower. "Mummy?" Charming asks just as the tower falls on top of him.
The crown he was wearing rolls out of the rubble and I stop it. "It's yours." Celeste whispers. "Take it. You'll be the best king ever." I smile at her.
"I'll take it, but know, you're the best woman ever." I lean down to kiss her and she welcomes me gladly. The crowd cheers and I stand up and place the crown on my head.
They all begin to cheer, "Artie, Artie, Artie!" Over and over again. Celeste manages to get to her feet. She stands by my side.
Celeste's POV:
I knew immortality would come in handy. My sight even came back. But, unfortunately, no matter how we feel about each other, Artie and I can never be. With my heart feeling as heavy as lead, I walk over to him. "Goodbye, Artie." I whisper in his ear.
He turns around to tell me to stay, but I'm already gone.
...
I walk the streets, not knowing where I'm going, but I just know I have to become blind again. "Celeste." 'Oh no.' "Artie?" He comes running up behind me. "What made you think you could leave?" He asks with a smile. "Artie, it will never work." I try to tell him.
"We'll make it work." I shake my head at him. "No. Stories need to be set in motion, and I'm the only one who can do it."
"Don't be so sure of that." Artie and I turn around to see a young woman looking at us. She's pale, has snow white hair and a bandage wrapped around her head, covering her eyes. "Who are you?" Artie asks her. She smiles and takes off her bandages, revealing sightless, ice blue eyes.
The puzzle pieces click together. "You're my replacement." Artie looks at me. "I interfered with the story and regained my sight, so, a new sister was created to take my old position as Storymaker." The girl smiles at us again. "I'm Estelle. But don't worry, our sisters aren't mad. In fact, they planned this. You're now free to be with Artie."
Joy overwhelms me. I turn to Artie and smirk. "Well, aren't you going to kiss me?" Artie smiles at me. "And I thought you knew everything." We kiss, and finally, after a century of sitting on the sidelines, I participate.
The End
