Chapter 9

The True Story.

"The answer is very simple. For the answer is." Kagome took a deep breath as she recited the answer.

"The answer is nothing,

For there is nothing greater being than God,

Nor a creature more evil than the Devil,

The poor are poor for they have nothing,

The rich are called rich for they need nothing,

And every living being will die if they eat nothing."

The spirit smiled at the young woman as she nodded, satisfied with the answer given to her.

"Your answer is correct, I shall allow you passage, young child. But beware, in this library there lurk many dangers in the shadows, and many secrets are sealed away. Are you certain you want to enter?" Kagome nodded, reassuring the concerned spirit. After that the spirit opened the gigantig wooden door. The ground shook and dust fell from the ceiling as the force that was used to open the door, spread throughout the place. Slowly, the room opened, revealing various scrolls, books, artefacts, and more.

Magic candles were lit, and a surreal glow settled over the library. They looked up in awe as they entered the room, recognizing some things whereas others were a complete mystery. Kagome smiled. If she wasn't able to gain her answer here, then she wouldn't know where to look elsewhere.

"Where is the section about Witchcraft?"Kagome asked as she turned to the spirit, who signalled to her to follow her. Kagome did as she was told, the others following her hot on her trail.

"This is the section for Witchcraft. Please be careful, and may you find what you seek. We don't have all information about Witchcraft, for a lot of it was destroyed in the period of the Witch Hunt."Kagome nodded, giving her thanks. She then turned to her comrades, who were waiting patiently for her orders.

"Let's all look around in pairs. Ryura is with me, Sango you are with Miroku. You all have communication devices, so if something happen, contact the other. Got it?" Everyone nodded, kagome then told them to split up. She and Ryura went what deeper into the section, while studying the books on the shelves.

"Hey." Ryura called out to his companion, which looked up at him with questioning eyes.

"How did you know the answer?" The dragon asked. Kagome gave a smile at the question.

"Easy, I lived on a shrine. My grandfather always told me how there was nothing greater than God, more evil than the Devil. And that's when I got it. If you placed nothing in the other sentences , It would work out the same way." She giggled, and Ryura chuckled with her. An easy explanation, which suited her very much in his opinion. He ruffled her hair lovingly.

"You are more of a genius than you let on." Kagome pouted at that sentence.

"Are you indirectly calling me dumb?" Ryura laughed, and Kagome smacked him on the shoulder.

"Mou! You are such a meanie, Ryura! You and Sesshoumaru share a lot more than only good appearances!" Ryura didn't register the comment, he just couldn't stop laughing at her reaction.

"Hmph! Laugh all you want, but I will leave you behind, you bastard!" Kagome huffed, but Ryura wouldn't stop taking amusement from her suffering. Kagome growled as she turned around, walking ahead and leaving her companion behind. The black haired witch fumed as she looked aimlessly around, until she caught sight of something glowing.

She walked towards it, approaching slowly but steadily.

Ryura just had finished laughing when he noticed that Kagome was gone. He looked around, then sniffed, catching her scent and following the lead. Kagome stood before the thing that had gotten her attention. It was a book that had some surreal light surrounding it. It had entranced Kagome. Ryura found her, just before she touched the book.

"Kagome! Don't open it!" Ryura called out, but his warning was in vain. Kagome already had opened the book, a flash of light coming out of it, blinding both her and Ryura. Kagome squinted her eyes as the light started to fade, and revealing a being. Ryura growled as he took Kagome in his arms while the being started to take form.

Kagome stared in awe at the creature that stood before her. It was a male with spiky blond hair with bangs that nearly covered his entire right eye. His eyes were a fierce blue, that pierced through Kagome. The blond male had fair skin, and wore a light blue kimono with a golden sash. Kagome tried to step forward, but was hold back by Ryura.

"Ryura, let me go." Ryura glared at the newcomer, whereas he studied Ryura.

"No." Kagome narrowed his eyes.

"Let. Me. Go. Now." She said, her eyes flashing warningly. Ryura narrowed his eyes but did as he was told. Kagome cautiously walked forward, until there were two meters left between. The male's eyes were now on her, calculating. Until they sparkled, and a smile graced his lips. Kagome gasped at the sight.

"It's an honour to meet you, decedent of Lady Tsukihime." He said, as he kneeled down, taking her hand in his. Kagome blinked and blushed.

"W-What are you talking about?" She stuttered. The male kissed the back of her hand, his irises taking on a darker colour.

"My name is Seth, a fox demon. I was a servant of your ancestor. Also known as The Black Witch Of the Night." Kagome gasped, pulling her hand out of the demon's grasp.

"The Black Witch? The one who put the curse on Sesshoumaru's family?" She gritted her teeth. Her ancestor was responsible for Sesshoumaru's suffering?

"Sesshoumaru?" The blond questioned. She growled at him.

"Sesshoumaru is the heir to the Western Lands, who are ruled by the dog demons. The Black Witch cursed his family. Sesshoumaru had to suffer, because of her jealousy!" She yelled at him. Seth looked at her, unfazed. He sighed.

"So, that's the story they made up, huh?" Kagome let out a 'huh?!', while Ryura narrowed his eyes, and moved to Kagome's side. Seth stood up, closing his eyes.

"That story isn't what happened." Seth hissed In anger as his memories resurfaced. Kagome looked with concern at him, laying her hand on his shoulder.

"Tell me. Tell me what really happened. " She demanded. He nodded at her.

"Very well. Please, look towards the book." He referred with his hand towards the book where he was sealed in. he put his hand above it, and manifested his energy into it, making it a blue with hint of orange erupt from it. A smoke raised from the book, creating a sphere. Slowly images started to appear.

"My lady and the former Western Lord actually went along greatly. They were the best of friends. When they both married, they became friendly with each other's mates. The Lord had taken a dog demoness as a mate, whereas My lady had taken a human priest for a husband." They saw a black haired maiden with a silver haired dog demon, smiling and laughing together.

"They lived in happiness, but unknown to them, danger was lurking in the shadows." The next images were of humans and demons being slaughtered one by one. Kagome gasped at the horror.

"A half demon and a dark priestess started to work together to bring havoc to the lands. They came into the possession of the Shikon no Tama." They saw the cursed jewel. Seth gritted his teeth.

"They used the Tama to turn the Lord into a blood thirsty beast. They made him kill his comrades, and…." He clenched his fist.

"Killed my Lady's husband." Kagome gasped as she saw her ancestor Holding a child in her arms, her face in despair.

"But she had no time to feel remorse. She had to safe her new-born child. The child had no powers, and would have none. She used a spell to teleport the baby to a human family far, far away. After she ensured her child's safety, she went back to battlefield. She had sealed me before that in this book, so that I could serve her decedents. She used her last bit energy to lessen the curse as much possible, dying in the process, and not succeeding in lifting the curse fully. The only way to lift the curse, is to destroy the Shikon no Tama." Tears overflowed over Kagome's cheeks as she thought about the suffering her and Sesshoumaru's ancestors had to endure.

"W-wait. What happened to the half demon, and the dark priestess." Kagome asked, anxiety settling in her belly.

"They escaped, but severely injured. I don't know if the priestess was able to live, since she seemed to have fused with a demon, but the half demon probably is. It should have taken centuries though to heal those wounds. Also, they haven't accomplished their goal yet." Seth said, showing an image of Kagome with the jewel now.

"They need the blood and power of my Lady to bring forth the true potential of the Shikon no Tama." Kagome looked at the image.

"So, what you're saying is…"

Kagome bit down on her bottom lip.

"….That there will be a war soon."

Seth nodded, and kneeled, a frown taking over on his face.

"Yes. Yes, My Lady."
