Chapter 10: One Missed Call
Nebula awoke with a splitting headache. She could feel a bed under her and that her hair was loose, which was odd because she didn't really remember coming home and going to bed. Hell, she couldn't even remember where she was or how she got here. Though her vision was blurred, she opened her eyes to inspect the room she was in. The walls were white with the only decoration being an oil painting of some lake at sunrise. Amy was lying in a bed next to her, hooked onto a machine but otherwise sleeping comfortably. Nebula still had on her black shirt and blue jeans while Amy still wore her usual pink dress.
From these observations Nebula easily deduced that they were in a hospital, but since they weren't wearing hospital gowns, it seemed that their injuries were minor and they hadn't been here for too long. She arose from her bed and tried to walk off any nausea that she was experiencing. As she paced around the room, she tried to remember what could have brought them here. "Lets see. We were at the mall up until the blackout happened. After that, we walked out and…. Crap!'
She turned to her friend and gently shook her awake. "Hey Amy. You alright?" Amy awoke with a typical tired look in her eyes, but otherwise there seemed to be nothing wrong with her, apart from some bruises and scratches around her body.
"Nebula… where are we?"
"We're in the hospital. Courtesy of those two robots." When Amy heard that last sentence, she bolted upright.
"The fight's over? Then what happened to those two?"
Just then a human doctor walked into the room. He looked at the two girls and seemed pleasantly surprised that they were now awake. He spoke to them with a calm smile."I'm glad you two are doing fine. You must be some pretty tough girls to walk away from an explosion with just a few cuts and bruises. Now, if you'll just change into your hospital gowns, we'll check to see if you have any bone fractures and such. Then we can prescribe you some proper medication and you'll be off."
"Screw that," Nebula deadpanned. She then concentrated some of her purple energy into her hand and rested it on Amy's head. Soon the energy was flowing around Amy's body, slowly healing up some of the scratches and bruises. Thank God their wounds weren't so serious. Though she could heal minor flesh wound and even fix up some slightly fractured bones, she couldn't really help much if the wounds were major and/or fatal.
The energy soon stopped flowing around Amy's body. She stood up and did a twirl on her feet to show that she had her normal strength back. "I'm feeling better already," she cheerily said to the doctor and Nebula.
The doctor stared at the two, dumbfounded by the remarkable healing. Nebula turned to him and spoke with a calm, polite tone. "I'll treat myself on the way out. We'll pay all the necessary bills. But I just have one question. Who brought us here?"
The doctor broke from his astonishment and answered with an unsure look on his face. "I was told by the nurse that you were brought here thirty minutes ago by two female hedgehogs, one black and one blue. They didn't say their names, but they claimed to be friends of yours. They left after a brief blackout happened ten minutes ago."
Nebula let the information sink in. Apart from them being females, the two hedgehogs described to her had shockingly similar fur colors to Sonic and Shadow. It couldn't be them, but her gut told her that this probably wasn't just some big coincidence. Amy on the other hand completely recognized the description.
"Thank you for the hospitality doctor," Nebula said formally. "Come on Amy. We have some important stuff to do."
"Yeah… Sure." Amy walked behind Nebula while the doctor stepped to the side to allow them through the door.
As they walked out the front entrance of the hospital, Amy finally spoke up. "Nebula. I remember those two girls. They were up on stage back at that dance competition at the mall. I saw them pick us up before I went unconscious."
Nebula looked back at her as she tied her loose hair back into a ponytail. "You heard what the doctor said about there being a blackout here? Those girls were at the mall when the blackout happened. Though the city may just be having power issues, it's a bit strange that they would just leave us after the power outage happened like back at the mall."
Amy added her own observations as Nebula finished tying her violet hair into a ponytail. "Maybe they have something to do with all of this. I'm sure our boyfriends took care of the robots, but it's pretty weird how those girls found us when we were so far away from the mall. I think we should call Sonic and Shadow to see if they've seen anything lately."
Nebula pulled out her phone and dialed Shadow's number. "Your right. They normally see some pretty weird stuff."
(Meanwhile)
Zorra floated in front of Nikki and Nights in her ghostly form and seemed to squint her eyes in delight. "i am VERY glad you deCIDED to help me. in ORder for me to get my body back, i SIMply need you to grab a few inGREdients for me so i can do the spell properly. i'll WARN you though, some of these inGREdients can be rather DIFFicult to get."
Nikki scoffed with her usual cocky look. "Don't you worry about it. There's practically nothing that me and my partner can't handle."
Just then, Night's phone began to ring. She took it out from her purse and looked up the caller. "Shit it's Nebula! Damn it, damn it! I can't answer her sounding like a girl!"
"Shadow calm down. You can just dismiss her call and…." Nikki's phone began to ring as well. Dreading who the caller might be, she took her phone out from her jean shorts and looked up the caller. "Oh no it's Amy! What do I do?"
"What happened to dismissing her calls like you told me?" Nights asked slightly annoyed.
"She hates it when I don't pick up her calls," Nikki said. Rather than just dismiss her call, she let the phone ring about five times before it finally stopped.
Zorra poked her head forward in slight interest. "i'm SORry to have comPLICATED your lovelife. howEVER this is ONly more motivation for you to do this job as QUICKLY as possible. after all, it's ONly fair after seeing what you and your FEmale friend did in my HOME."
Nikki blushed in embarrassment. "Y-yeah… well, what exactly do you need us to get.?"
"well, not too FAR from here is a PLACE where you can buy some basic MAgic inGREDIENTS. i'll tell you the DIRections, and i have a small LIST of some typical MAgic inGREdients i might NEED."
Nikki used her phone to write down notes as Zorra listed some of the ingredients she may use.
(Meanwhile)
"Oh, I can't believe he didn't pick up my call!" Amy complained. "He knows I hate it when he does that."
"Shadow didn't pick up his phone either," Nebula said. "Something's not right. Their normally not so busy and even when they are, Shadow usually calls or texts me if he and Sonic are doing something else important." She had a very thoughtful look on her face. "Let's go see if their back at their apartment."
AN: So their girlfriends grow suspicious! While Sonic and Shadow begin their quest to regain their manhood, just how much will Nebula and Amy dig up? More story coming your way!
And P.S: I'm not really sure of the extent of Nebula's healing powers, but I decided to limit it to minor injuries like flesh wounds, fractures, and minor trauma. This way she isn't too over powered.
