Chapter 10: The Attack

(Lily's P.O.V.)

This is it. This is it. This is it. This is it.

That's all I could think when I saw Death Eaters standing in front of the Three Broomsticks. I looked around while drawing my wand, and saw that Marly, Hest, Remus, Sirius, James and Frank and Alice – that just left the pub – also drew their wands. Peter was walking from Honeydukes and noticed the Death Eaters, poor bloke, and grabbed his wand clumsily.

I was ready. These freaks are never going to hurt me again. I scanned the Death Eaters for familiar faces from the Daily Prophet articles. I saw Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange – which is Sirius' cousin-, Rodolphus Lestrange, and more I couldn't even name. I also noticed some that go to school here like Avery and Mulciber – disgusting pigs if you ask me – and another Death Eater that set my teeth on edge and my hairs on the back of my neck standing straight up.

Severus Snape.

I can't believe the nerve of that two-faced bastard! He dares accuse me of talking to James when he is in league with Voldemort!

While I was diagnosing the situation, and dark cloud appeared and then cleared and standing it is place was the villain himself – Lord Voldemort.

I mustered up all of my Gryffindor courage and stood tall and I could see everyone else was doing the same.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here? It seems that we have the pleasure of meeting some seventh years. Why these are your classmates, am I correct Avery, Mulciber, and Severus?" Voldemort's eerie voice rang across the town. Avery and Mulciber sneered at us while Snape just stood there and acted intimidating.

"Yes my lord." They said staring at us like we were a piece of meat and we stared right back.

"Well it's a shame our introductions are cut short, but I'm sure you all know who I am." He said calmly. We glared at him, though on the inside we were freaking out. All of a sudden Lestrange yelled "AVADA KEDAVRA!" We dodged it and sent as many legal curses as we knew. You could see other students scurrying back to Hogwarts while some of the seventh and sixth years joined us in the fight.

Avery was firing off spells and then he yelled, "Crucio!" I felt a searing pain that I've never experienced before. My limbs felt like they were being torn from me. I faintly heard James screaming my name and Lestrange laughing her maniac laugh. After what felt like hours, my world went dark…

I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't. I could hear people talking though, so I strained my ears to hear.

"Is she going to be ok?" A deep voice that sounded like it had been crying said. That was James. It pained me to think about what he must be going through. If he had gotten tortured, I don't know what I would do with myself.

"Probably. Madame Pomfrey said she should wake up any minute now." That was Hest's voice. She sounded as if she had been crying too. I wondered who else was here, just waiting for me to wake up. I gave up on the hearing thing and put all of my will in opening my eyes.

I finally started to blink a little and then I opened them fully to see James' gorgeous yet blood-shot eyes hovering near mine. I smiled and he yelped in surprise.

"LILY oh Merlin! Thank goodness you're alright!" He said grabbing my hand. I noticed that Hest, Sirius, Marly, Remus, Alice, and Frank were all there and their shoulders shrugged in relief. Madame Pomfrey bustled over.

"Mr. Potter, please keep your voice down! Now that Miss Evans is awake I just need to check up and make sure you're alright. I will probably release soon. Mr. Potter you may stay, though the rest must leave." She said ushering everyone else out the door despite their protests. She left to get her things ready and while she was gone, James turned to me.

"You don't know how worried I was. I am so bloody glad you're alright." He breathed looking at me tenderly. I reached up to touch his cheek and noticed a distinct amount of stubble. He hasn't shaved in a couple of days.

"Merlin James, how long have you been here?" I asked him. He grinned bashfully.

"Uh I kinda haven't exactly left since you got here." He said not really looking me in the eyes. I pursed my lips.

"And how long have I been here exactly?" I asked expecting a day or two.

"Six days." He said.

"Merlin! Can you believe the homework and classes I missed!?" I said starting to get up, but James pushed me back down.

"Lils calm down. Moony got it all down for you and I'm sure the teachers will understand. You'll catch up soon enough." He said calmly and a bit amused. I slowly sank back down and he stroked my arm, making me feel so much better. Madame Pomfrey came over and she checked my temperature and about ten minutes later she told me I could be released the next morning. I nodded and she went to go tend to a sick first year. I turned to James.

"You know you can go right?" I whispered smiling slightly. He just shook his head, a look of seriousness on his face.

"I'm not going anywhere." He said earnestly, still holding onto my hand. I smiled and lean up to kiss his cheek, savoring in his adorable blush grazing his cheek. His grip on my hand tightens and he leaned even closer to me.

"I love you Lils." He whispered before closing the distance between us and kissing me. I felt the same rush of adrenaline and lust I feel whenever he kisses me and I lifted my arms up to wrap them around his strong neck. He wraps his arms around my waist and deepens the kiss. I smile on his lips and pull him closer. His hand slips under my shirt to graze the strip of skin above my waistband and I bit his bottom lip in revenge. He groans into my mouth…ah revenge is sweet. I eventually need to breathe so bad that I have to pull away. I rest my forehead against his as our breathing settles down. His smile is so wide it seems to cover his entire face and I'm pretty sure mine matches.

"I love you too." I say biting my lip. He stares at my lips in lust and I lean in to peck his lips.

"You should get some rest." He says not moving an inch.

"You should too." I say pushing him slightly. He groans in displeasure but moves anyway. "Did anyone else get hurt?" I ask curious and worried.

"Just some bruises here and there and then the professors came and settled everything down. We were all really worried about you. You were asleep for…..a really long time…and….I-I just felt so helpless Lils. You were somewhere I couldn't help you and I-I hated it. You were….hit….so many times….that – that monster kept on hitting you with the curse…..until Sirius knocked him out and…..Dumbledore came and contained them. I remember thinking that if you…if you died…I wouldn't have anything to live for. You – you're my world Lily….my entire world." He finished his speech with silent tears streaming down his face. I have tears pouring down my own face too. I reached out and wiped all his tears away.

"You're my world too." I said quietly and with my entire soul meaning it. He pressed his lips against mine and I kissed him back letting my tears fall. He pulled back and kissed my tears away. I started to feel sleepy and I guess James noticed.

"Goodnight love." He whispered close to my ear before pulling back. I knew he wouldn't leave until I fell asleep and maybe not even then.

"Go…back….to…the…dorm…James" I remembering saying last.

He was still holding my hand.
