WHAT UP!

Hey, so pretty intense chapter last time and that came from experience. Not my own, but from someone I knew who was pregnant at 16 at my school. Catholic school kids can be cruel! This one will be a little lighter, but there will still be some drama.

Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to Austin & Ally

Chapter 10

Birthing Class and Nursery Decor

Austin's POV:

"Come on Austin, you promised!" Ally said from the bathroom. I rolled my eyes at her though she could not see it.

"Ally, I said I would consider it, I never said I would actually go." I said back as I scrolled through my phone. Jimmy and the other producers had been emailing me back and forth about upcoming press conferences, an album release party and all that crap that came with debuting my album. I love performing and I couldn't be happier that my album is about to drop, but it sure is tiring.

"Well as your pregnant fiancé, I automatically veto that." She said as she came out dressed in her night clothes; a loose tank top and comfy pajamas shorts. Her bump was visibly showing now and, if I remember correctly, Aria should be about 5 ½ months. "So, you will come with me to my Lamaze class tomorrow."

If you're a little lost, let me bring you up to speed.

Ally had come home from working at Sonic Boom carrying pamphlet after pamphlet of different birthing classes. They had been given to her by her mother and mine to look over as we, mainly her, had not made a birth plan for the baby. I had been too tired from a day at school and the studio, so I really don't remember everything she had said. I do remember her saying something about Lamaze class and asking if I would go and I had said I would think about it. I'm paying for that sorry ass mistake right now.

"I wouldn't be able to go anyway." I said, quickly coming up with an excuse not to go. "Jimmy needs me tomorrow to finalize details on my album release and I don't know how long that's gonna take." I thought that she would take that excuse and drop the subject, but she just crawled into bed and smiled at me. When she smiled the way she smiled, it was never a good thing.

"And that's why I called Jimmy ahead of time and explained our situation to him. He agreed that you needed to be there, so you have nothing to get you out of going." She said. I groaned a little as I knew I couldn't get out of going to this class, no matter how much I didn't want to go.

"But, why do I have to go?" I whined like a five year old. "I'm not the one having the baby and besides I'll be doing what every first time father does." I told her. Ally raised an eyebrow at me and gave me an unimpressed look.

"Oh really," She said. "And what would that be exactly?"

Now, being the resourceful guy I'am, I knew that I really had to pick my words carefully. Ally has been very intense when it comes to her mood swings now that she's almost 6 months. Plus, the added stress of planning her baby shower, setting up the nursery, trying to find a good online school and my graduation, I don't really blame her for being moody, although I would never tell her that.

"I will be standing in the room next to you, holding your hand while you scream and crush my finger bones into dust. That's what a good first time father does." Now I thought that was funny, only Ally wasn't laughing. There was an awkward silence between us until her face broke into a soft smile and I released a breath I had been holding.

She leaned into to give me a kiss and I thought I was off the hook.

"You really are so sweet." She told me. Our faces were only a few inches apart and I thought that a good night kiss would be the end of it, but I was wrong. "But, you're still going whether you want to or not. Good night." And with that she threw the covers over herself and set off to sleep. I meanwhile, just laid there, a little dazed and trying to process everything that had just happened.

I gave a defeated sigh as I realized I wasn't getting out of this and reached over to turn the lamp on my side off. I turned around placed one arm protectively around Ally and her baby bump. I had a tendency now to do that every once and a while and I quite enjoy it.

Every once in a while, I'll feel Aria kick against my hand and sometimes, she'll even throw her little fist against it. It's great to feel my daughter moving around, but it's a little uncomfortable for Ally. I only hope this Lamaze class isn't as boring as I think it will be.

*Next Day*

I was waiting in the living room watching the 49ers be defeated by the Bears. I was just sitting on the couch in a red t-shirt and ripped jeans, enjoying my Saturday afternoon. It was halfway into the second half when the TV screen suddenly went black. I huffed and turned around to see Ally standing there with a bag and a yoga mat underneath her arm. She was wearing a loose tank top, her white crocket kimono style cardigan and some yoga pants with her flip flops. Don't ask how I know what her cardigan is. Let's just say that's a shopping trip I would rather not remember.

"You can catch up on the score later." She told me as she handed me the bag. "Right now, we have a Lamaze class to get to." I sighed and followed her out the door and to the car. I started the ignition, plugged the directions into my phone and set out for the building the class was held in.

The drive was long, about 2 hours, so we decided to pick up some food on the way. While we were eating, I decided to bring up the topic of the nursery with Ally. We had been debating on whether we wanted a theme or one solid color. There was one thing we did agree on…

"No pink anything." Ally said as she bit into her hamburger. "It's way too cliché and I've seen it done in every baby girl nursery pictures." I agreed with that too. Pink was just way too played out and I wanted our baby's nursery to sort of stand out. It may end up in magazines if my album sells well enough.

"So, what about a musical theme or maybe something having to do with Winnie the Pooh?" I told her, knowing that was her favorite childhood story. I mean, who doesn't love that cuddly little bear?

"I can't decide." She said. "I love both of those ideas, especially the Winnie the Pooh one and I would love our daughter to be immersed in music early on."

"Well, let's talk about it more after the class." I said as we pulled up to the maternity part of the hospital. I parked the car and turned it off.

I got out of my side of the car, grabbed the bag out of the back seat and moved to help Ally out of her seat. Since she's pretty big it's getting harder for her to move around. Sometimes, in the morning, she'll put one shoe on one foot and then a different kind on the other and won't realize until Trish tells her about it. It's funny until she starts blaming me for not telling her. Once we were out of the car, we walked into the lobby of the maternity ward.

We walked up the receptionist who pointed us in the way of the class. We found the room and quickly realized we were probably the youngest in the class. There were four or five other couples in the room and only one of them looked to be around my age, maybe a little older. We got a few stares, but we were used to it, so we found a spot, laid out the mat and waited for the class to start. We had only been there for a few minutes when the couple next to us motioned for us to talk to them.

"So, this is your first?" The woman asked. She looked to be in her late 20s with blonde hair pulled up into a ponytail and wearing similar clothes to what Ally was wearing.

"Yeah, you as well?" Ally asked.

"No, little Jaime here is our fourth." She said. Wait, her fourth kid and she looks that young?

"Wow, you must really like kids." I said, not really knowing what else to say. I felt Ally slap me on my arm and give me 'that' look. I expected the woman to look or saying like she was appalled, but she only laughed.

"No, my husband and I had twins first, two boys, and then a girl and we had decided that would be enough. Then I forgot my pill one night and well, as you can see, we're expecting another." She said. I then noticed that she suddenly became a little nervous before she asked the one question we knew we would get. "If you don't mind me asking, how old are you both?"

Ally and I both looked at each other before we answered. We knew we couldn't avoid it if we wanted to get through it.

"I'm 23 and Ally is 18 and before you ask, yes we are in a committed relationship." Man, did that sound defensive or what? I could see Ally hang and shake her head, but what else could I say?

"Well, I'm glad to hear that." She said. "And don't worry, I myself am three years older than my husband and I can tell you that age truly is but a number. Well, as long as you truly love each other." We all laughed a little at that, finally feeling the tension lift a little. "My name is Nicole Carter and I know who you are." She said pointing to Ally. "So, where does that leave you blondie?"

"My names Austin, this is Ally and this," I said, placing my hand on Ally's stomach. "Is Aria."

"Aria, huh? So, I take it you're having a little girl?"

"Yep and you? I know Jaime is both a girl and a boy's name, so I just want to make sure." Ally said.

"Another boy to add to my husband's horde, but if he's anything like his brother's, he'll hopefully be mellow." Our conversation continued from there until the instructor came in for the class.

Let the torture of birthing class begin.

Ally's POV:

After talking to Nicole for a while, the instructor for the class finally showed up. I propped the pillow I had brought behind me and motioned for Austin to support it. He sat behind the pillow, his legs on either side of me, allowing me to lean into him.

"Good afternoon everyone and welcome to birthing class." The instructor said to the class. "My name is Rosalie Luna and I will be your instructor for the course." Rosalie was a very pretty Latina woman with long dark hair and perfectly tanned skin. She was about my height and was wearing hospital scrubs for a uniform. "During the rest of the pregnancy, I will be here to explain things such as signs of labor, how to cope with pain and when it's the right time to call your doctor. For now I would like to get to know each of you, so we'll go around the room and introduce each other." Great, sounded like the first day of school all over again. Each of the couples went around and introduced themselves and their partner and then it got to me and Austin.

"Um, hi, I'm Ally and this is Austin. We are expecting our first child, a little girl, and I hope this class will teach me how to handle the day she arrives." Good Ally, keep it short and simple.

"Well now that we all know each other, let's get started." Rosalie said as she moved to the front of the room. There was a white board there where she began writing things down.

Taking this class was actually a really good idea. I will admit that when my mom and Mimi first gave me the pamphlets, I was a little nervous. Taking these classes would be telling the world that I was pregnant, but I also wanted to be prepared for when my little girl entered the world. I could only imagine what that day would be like without these classes.

The entire class was very educational with Rosalie showing up different positions to get rid of pain and having our partners is an active part of the process. I could tell that Austin actually liked being a part of it and encouraging me through it. He practiced saying soothing words, rubbing my back when the pain started and learning how to track contraction times. I learned that even if my water breaks, it doesn't necessarily mean I should go to the hospital. Your water breaking only means that labor is starting, not that you have to head out immediately. You can wait a little while until they get closer together, but you can go if your pain is too much for you to handle.

By the end of the class, we had learned a lot and we had made a friend in Nicole and her husband, Matthew. We exchanged numbers in case I wanted to ask her for any help or direction in my pregnancy. We said goodbye and left for the car.

On our way home we decided to pick up dinner and have a quiet night at home. We had picked up a large pepperoni, green pepper, onion and red pepper pizza with extra cheese and thin crust with a side of spicy Buffalo wings and garlic knots. Ever since I entered my fifth month, I had started craving spicy, sour and sweet foods. I could handle sweet and spicy food, but the sour ones still had to grow on me.

We walked back into our apartment and set about watching a movie, 'Despicable Me', and eating our food in peace. I was curled into Austin's side, his hand relaxing on my bump, when I heard my phone ringing. From the ringtone I could tell it was my dad. Why was he calling me? Isn't he at a convention this weekend? I picked the phone off the coffee table and answered it.

"Hey dad, I thought you were-"I paused as I listened to what he had to tell me. "Yeah Austin is with me." I felt Austin get up and lean his head down to my phone. I could tell by my dad's tone that he was upset. Then he said what I hoped he wouldn't say.

"What do you mean Elliot is in the hospital?!"
