Slowly Erik dressed only in a pair of shorts holding on to the rings as he lifted his body vertical from the seated position, he had been in. His tail helping to keep his balance as his to… claws reached for the ceiling. With various monitors attached to his chest. Still breathing evenly, he looked up. And saw Cassie doing laps around the gym.
"So, explain to me why you have us doing this again?" he asked, looking over at Dr Lynx who was taking notes as he watched the sensor readouts for his hearts and breathing.
"I still need to identify the source of the mutation. So, to help bring back your base genome we need to know exactly what has been affected. There for it will help if I can isolate your recombinant DNA. So, when I'm finished, I can activate the positional genomes," he answered not looking up at him.
Blinking Erik stared at him. Then swinging forward did a couple flips on the rings before releasing his grip and flipped through the air. Landing on his paws.
"And in English doc?" he said, standing straight while Cassie jogged over to him breathing deep but evenly.
Sighing Dr Lynx turned to face them. "I'm doing a physical to see what's been zapped," he explained more simply. "Then hopefully find a way to revert your genome back their normal states."
"Well why didn't you say so?" Erik said, picking up a towel.
"Though maybe you can leave a couple things on," and they both looked at Cassie as she flexed a couple muscles. "I kinda like some of the physical things. Heck I can run the Boston Marathon now," she finished doing a little in place jog.
"Don't you think people might find it a little off that a first timer would beat the Ethiopians?" Erik asked, paw his hip. "Remember to the last person who tried to cheat by taking the subway?"
At a clearing of the throat they both turned to Lynx. "Not that this isn't interesting even though I have no idea what the Boston Marathon is," he said, turning. "Before you go, I need you to do one more thing," and he gestured toward an obstacle course. "I need you to run that," and he jabbed his thumb at it.
Both looked at each other. "Like being back in the NAVY huh," Erik said, dropping down to get ready to start.
"An't it he truth," Cassie replied before they both darted forward toward the wall with dangling rope at the beginning of the course.
Ignoring the rope, the pair leapt at the wall their claws extending to sink into the wood holding them in place. With Lynx staring in amazement as the scrambled up and over the wall.
After they were finally able to get back to the salvage yard. After Lynx had finished running an extra test. They soared out of the hanger in the ShadowKat right behind the TurboKat.
"Now this is my kind of tests!" Merlin said, as he banked the ShadowKat. "So, what are we doing today?" he asked, as he took formation next to the TurboKat.
"Follow us and you'll see," T-Bone answered, and the jets banked not the desert. "Now remember guys," T-Bone said, as they came to a canyon. "Like before this is a training session for you two to get used to the custom missiles and flying in close to the city."
"Got it," Merlin said, before he rolled the jet into the Canyon. "You two joining us?" he asked, when he saw the TurboKat still in the same position above them.
"Its not us you have to worry about," Razor replied.
Before they had time to ask what he meant their radar lit up. "We got incoming at our six o'clock!" Talon barked and her head whipped around to look behind them and spying a set of drones coming at them and opening fire.
"Okay this makes things a little more tricky," Merlin said, as he maneuvered the ShadowKat through the canyon while dodging the laser fire.
"Let's see what we got in this new arsenal," Talon said, as she brought their weapons system. "Let's try this one?" as she selected one and quickly acquired a lock. "Slicer missiles… FIRING!" she barked, and the missiles launched the cones falling leaving three claws like blade that widened to cut off the wings of the drones as Merlin maneuvered under a rock formation.
"Nice shooting!" Merlin said. "So, what's next?" he asked, rolling the jet onto its side to fly between two pillars of rock.
As if in answer they were under fire again and he rolled over a rock formation to avoid being hit as the laser fire impacted where they had disappeared. "I got these guys," Merlin said, as he circled around bringing up his weapons system.
Maneuvering to the air around the laser fire from the drone's tanks that rolled out of a couple caves. Upside down in the middle of the roll her acquired a lock.
"Turbo blades… FIRING!" he called out as the blades launched from the wings to cut off the tops off the drone tanks.
"Hey, you missed a couple!" Talon pointed out as they continued to receive fire.
"Not for long," he replied as he pulled up pulling back on the throttle into a sight loop until he was pointing right at the ground. "Buzzsaw missiles… FIRING!" he barked, and the missiles launched leaving nothing behind but scattered remains as Merlin leveled out rolling around a couple more formations.
"YAH HO!" he called out as the burst out of the canyon.
"Not bad guys," T-Bone said, coming into formation with them. "Let's do a quick patrol then head back to base," and they both turned toward the city.
In her office Callie typed into her computer when her intercom sounded. "Yes," she said, pressing the answer.
"Miss Briggs Dr Lynx from Megacat Biochemical is here to see you," her secretary reported.
"Send him in," she answered putting her computer in sleep.
A second later the door to her office opened and Dr Lynx came in a secure case in one paw. "Dr Lynx how are you today?" she asked, standing from her chair to come around to meet him offering her paw.
"Well enough," he answered taking it and they shook before she led him over to a chair to sit in in front of her desk.
"Do you have this week's report?" she asked, after turning on a white noise maker and other measures to make sure they had privacy.
"Yes Miss Briggs," he answered opening his case pulled out some his notes. "So far I am still working on isolating Erik's and Cassie's original baseline," he started as he straightened them with a few taps of paper on the case.
"How much longer do you think it will take for you to do so?" she asked, sitting back in her chair fingers interlocking as she thought of her friends.
"I still can't determine that," he answered. "Because Dark Kat certainly didn't want them turned back from how complex what he used to turn them into Kats is," and he looked at her after adjusting his glasses.
Sighing Callie's gaze lowered as her chin went into, the palm of her hand. Wishing she could have better news for Cassie and Erik the next time she saw them.
"But their physicals have produced some interesting results," Lynx continued, and she looked up at him.
"Such as?" she asked, with a wave of her hand.
"Their claws and parts of their skeleton," Lynx started as he looked back at his notes. "They seemed to be made of some unidentifiable biomechanical alloy. That from what I can tell is as strong as steel with no conductivity to electricity. Their muscular system also seems to be denser than an average Kat. And they're metabolism and endurance are off the charts," he reported before looking back up at Callie.
Blinking Callie sat stunned for a second before falling back in her chair. "What did Dark Kat do to them?" she asked, openly. "Turn them into Kats… or weapons."
Later Erik and Cassie were back at the salvage yard in the garage living quarters they watched in amusement as Jake and Chance faced off tying bandanas around their foreheads. "Ready?" Chance asked.
"Ready," Jake replied and stepping forward Cassie held an arm between the two.
"Remember the rules," she said, looking from one to the other while Erik leaned against a wall arms crossed. "The first one to stop loses. No pauses, no water, no squirting…"
"And no afterburner pockets this time!" Chance said, jabbing a claw at Jake as they crouched over the large bowl of what they called afterburner peppers.
After shooting each a glace she barked, "GO!" with a jerk of her arm stepping back.
For a the next few minutes the pair watched the Kats eat pepper after pepper trying to out do each other. "college kids," Erik said, half grinning in amusement as he watched Chace take in his fourth pepper even though he was sweating bullets along with Jake. "We live with college kids."
Also nodding in amusement Cassie nodded. "But you have to admit it is pretty funny," she agreed. "And it certainly is a unique way to test nerves."
Nodding in half agreement they watched as Jake reached for his next pepper. But paused at the sound of a car pulling up.
"Who's that?" he asked, looking out at the window.
"Oh, did I mention earlier that Felina and Callie called earlier," he said, going towards the stairs to the lower level a giant grin on his face. "And I invited them to dinner," he started down Cassie following.
"Oh, they are going to get you for this," she said, in an amused voice as they met the two, She Kats in the garage.
"Hey guys," he said, as they greeted him and Cassie with a hug from Callie and grasp of hands from Felina.
"How was your day?" Callie asked. "Did the tests go well?"
"Well enough," he answered.
"Where are Chance and Jake?" Felina asked, looking around for the toms.
"Oh, they're putting out the fire," Cassie said, jabbing her thumb of the stairs.
"FIRE!" Felina barked darting upstairs closely followed by the others.
At the top they stared in amusement as the two toms fought for turns at the faucet.
