The fire that exploded through the room sent everyone back. Anna couldn't help but scream as she fell to the floor, scraping her hands and jarring her hip. The Captain fell to one side of her, and Tony to the other. Anna tried to rise up to see if Tony was okay, all too aware of what happened the last time that something had exploded near them.
As she turned him over though, nothing was wrong with him. His eyes were wide as he to tried to see if she had injuries but he couldn't see her hands. "Jesus." He muttered, leaning up to give her a rough and relieved kiss on her lips. Anna let it linger for a moment before she broke it to concentrate on the rest of the room, reassured that her fiancé was alright after all.
"Cap, are you okay?" Anna accidently used Tony's nickname for Rogers. With the explosion she didn't give a rat's ass that she had just been screaming at him minutes earlier. "Bruce? Natasha? Avalon?" She called out, looking around wildly to find everyone, to see if they were okay. "What the hell happened?"
She saw a hole in the floor and scrambled over to it.
"Put on the suit." She heard someone in the back ground say, the Captain, and Tony agreeing. Instead of following them she looked down into the hole.
"Ava?" Thor's voice thundered through the room. "Avalon?"
"She's down here." Anna looked up to tell Thor. From where she was kneeling she could see just barely into the grating. Natasha, Bruce, and Ava were down there. Of course they would be. It was just her luck that the people she cared for were down there. At least it hadn't been Tony. Natasha seemed to be hurt on top of it all, though Bruce was on his hands and knees, squirming like he was in pain.
"Anna!" Tony called back to her. She glanced at Thor, the floor, and then where Tony was running out of the room with the Captain. The Director was talking over an ear piece to god knows who. Anna rose from the hole, but Thor was looking angrily around.
"How do I get to them?" He boomed, also rising though he was more angry and worried while Anna was focused and determined. "Tell me how to get through this metal machine!"
"I don't know!" Anna responded, growing frustrated with the demanding man. "It's not like I know exactly where they fell to! I just know it's below us." Thor growled, though not at her, before he was running out of the door. Anna turned to Fury as he began to speak. "Stark, you copy that."
"What? Where are you sending him?" She asked.
"One of the turbines, engine three, has stopped working and we can't fix it while in the air." Fury panted, trying to get up. Anna didn't move to help him, instead running out the same door that Tony and the Captain had earlier. She would be precious minutes behind the two, but she trusted that the Captain would look after Tony. After all, if he didn't he knew damn well that she would be ready to skin him alive.
She ran through the previously empty walls. Now they were swarming with Agents trying to find the source of the break in. She scrambled through the halls, able to slip between the bulky people most of the time, other times she screamed at them to move. Some stopped to notice her and move out of the way. Anna didn't care; she had a place to be.
By the time she did make it to the suits, Tony's was gone with the Captain nowhere in sight. She let out a frustrated breath, almost wheezing with how much running she had just did to get there. She pushed her hand against the cage for the suits. JARVIS opened it for her automatically, revealing her newest suit. She was quick to step into the shining armor, wanting to follow after Tony to engine three.
AVA
"Doctor?" She woke to hear, along with groaning. Ava let out her own groans as she felt her skin healing over on her right leg and her hip. "Doctor Banner?" Her head was pounding, no doubt from her brief unconscious trip. She opened her eyes wide, looking around her. She could see above her where they fell through the floor. Ava looked to see who had joined her down here. She didn't turn her head far before she recognized the transforming man beside her. She cringed, already knowing this was going to hurt.
Avalon rolled a bit a way, not paying attention to what Natasha was saying to the Doctor. Instead she focused on hopping up to help get a metal bar off of Natasha, straining to make it to her as Avalon stumbled. She didn't want Natasha trapped down here under a bar when the Hulk came out to play. She could bet her healing ability that he wasn't going to be able to stop his transforming, no matter how hard he seemed to be trying to.
"Come on Bruce, you've got to fight it." Natasha pleaded, as much as the assassin could. Natasha recognized her scared though and didn't bat an eyelash. Instead she braced her healing hip and started lifting the bar, grunting with exertion but Natasha still managed to wiggle out from under the bar, all the time trying to talk down Dr. Banner. "It's gonna be okay listen to me." Avalon noticed two people trying to get to them, and she shook her head fast, lifting one hand from the bar to shoo them away. They didn't need telling twice.
"Come on." Ava muttered to Natasha, just as her leg cleared the metal bar. Avalon quickly put it down, trying not to make any loud noises and startle Bruce. She moved from the bar to look at Natasha's leg, examining it for any breaks. It wasn't broken, but it was definitely hurt.
"I swear on my life, I will get you out of this." Natasha was beginning to do something very rare for her, panic. Avalon, however, was not new to panic. In fact she had been feeling it since she had been awakened. "You will walk away and never ever…"
"Your life?" Bruce demanded, swiveling his head to them. Avalon's eyes widened as she watched him, her hands stilling on Natasha's leg. All along Bruce's face there was a green tint. The voice alone that he had used…it was very clear that Bruce was losing the battle against the Hulk. Before she could do anything, he nearly spasmed as he roared up at the hole they had come from. It was quickly cut off with groans and pants. Avalon was shocked to see him beginning to grow out of his clothes. She flinched just seeing it. Of all the mutations in the world, she didn't think that the Hulk was the most painless.
The last act Bruce did before he lost his mind at least, was to fall back off of the platform, away from Natasha. "Can you move?" Avalon whispered urgently.
"Yes." Natasha whispered back, looking away from the Hulk to Avalon. Ava very quietly helped Natasha up. "Is he…?"
"Yeah." Avalon watched as the Hulk began to try and stumble up, growing larger. "Look, come on Nat, don't freeze up on me now." She bit her lip, before blowing it out. There was no way that Natasha was going to be able to outrun an angry Hulk. Avalon watched Natasha try and hobble off the platform and to the stairs, attracting the Hulk's attention. Ava bit her lip before making a split second decision.
"Hey!" She shouted, jumping off the platform they had landed on earlier and in front of the Hulk. "So tough guy, you're the Hulk?" She grinned challengingly. "Let's make you angry?" Her claws made a sharp slicking sound as they popped out of her knuckles. And then Avalon swung her arm, cutting his cheek. What she did next she learned a long time ago, before her claws were more than bone and her brother was by her side.
She turned tail and ran.
ANNA
"Tony, how we doing?" She asked, her suit flying out over the helicarrier. Her suit was at least in optimal flying capacity, although the same couldn't have been said for the machine that was trying to fly in front of her. A screen popped up on her display. It was her fiancé's face. "Where's the Captain? We've got unfriendlies, and from the roar I'm guessing Bruce isn't with us anymore."
"I'm heading to the turbine on the port side of the ship." Tony grunted. She'd bet he was having trouble with the wind coming off of the helicarrier, because she sure was. Anna turned to the left, where she could just see the shiny red of his suit going into the unmoving, smoking turbine. "Damn, it's hotter than your temper in here." He muttered, and Anna pursed her lips tightly. She flattened herself out to come join in him. As she went JARVIS pulled up a screen below her visuals that showed the outwards appearance of the turbines, the blades. There was something blocking the way.
"Where's the Captain?" Anna repeated, coming to a halt inside the unmoving turbines.
"Inside, making his way here." Tony remarked, and she heard his thrusters close by her. Although she couldn't have possibly heard much over the wind. "And here's flag boy now." Her love muttered. Anna turned her helmet to where she thought she heard the thrusters, but she was obviously on the wrong side of the wreckage. Well, Tony could deal with the inner workings and getting the mechanics going.
Anna started working on fixing the turbines; one blade was sticking out wrong, to low in its predestined groove. "I got to get this superconducting coolant system back online before I can access the rotors," Tony was talking, but Anna could hear the familiar distracted tone of voice he was using. "And work on dislodging-"
"I've got that part." Anna interrupted him. "I'm inside the turbines; some of them were knocked out of place with the blast. You work on the coolant system; I'm going to work on what's out here." Anna placed her hands below the misplaced turbine, upping the power with a kick to her legs that only JARVIS could interpret appropriately. Even with the suit she grunted at the weight and pressure necessary to push the turbine back into place.
Tony began to speak to the Captain, ordering him around and Anna listened in, trying to distract herself from the ache in her shoulders. "I need you to get to that engine control panel and tell me which relays are in overload position." She let out a large grunt as the turbine moved an inch into place. She released the turbine, letting out a breath and zooming to the connected bits, where the rip that had caused the problem was. "What does it look like in there?"
She heard an exasperated noise only after a few moments. Anna assumed that the Captain had answered him. "Well, you're not wrong." He snorted.
"Behave." Anna told him, holding out one arm to shoot the same laser that she had used back when fighting the Hammer droids onto the metal. It worked perfectly, melting the metal back together and keeping it in place. Now the billionaire woman turned to try and work on the rest of the destroyed turbine.
AVALON
This was the last time she ran anywhere. Her lungs burned with her lack of air, her hair was all in her face, and the Hulk wasn't even winded. She'd managed her goal at least. Natasha was not the center of his attention any more. Unfortunately for her, she was. Once Thor figured that out, he wasn't ever going to let her live it down.
Avalon's thoughts were cut off as the Hulk smashed down on top of her. She coughed up blood, screaming before she cut her foot, making the Hulk stumble off of her and into a wall instead. She pushed herself up, barely allowing time for her internal organs to repair themselves. Anna spit out more blood. "Bruce, I just wanted to save Natasha." She tried to reason with him, already knowing it was a lost cause, but it was the only cause.
Only her last case was ruined when he grabbed her and started beating her against a wall. She screamed again. He only got a few hits in before she sunk her claw into his hand, causing the Hulk to throw her against a wall. She laid quietly on the wall, having slumped to the bottom. It was amazing how her body had left a dent in the wall. Ava was not getting back up until her spine relocated itself.
Thankfully, her knight in charmingly blue and red armor saved her when he slammed into the Hulk and forced him through a wall into the carrier. Avalon groaned, moving her head to look at the hole, and breathed out sharply. She was panting and aching but her mind was working. Loki had wanted to use the Hulk.
So he had the Hulk which meant these people that had caused this were going to want to get Loki out. As soon as Avalon's spine relocated she tried to get up, falling over a few times.
ANNA
Anna blasted through the last of the debris holding the turbines from working. "Even if we get this thing clear it won't start without a jump." Anna said, shifting her aching shoulder blades. She looked over her shoulder to see her fellow billionaire blast his way through the last bit that was blocking the turbines. "I'm going to need to push it."
"If that thing gets up to speed, you'll get shredded, no way." Tony told her, zooming up to idle beside her.
"There's the stator control unit. Use it to reverse the polarity long enough to disengage maglev and that could…" Anna was stopped by Tony.
"Got it!" He zoomed back up, over the side of the turbine to where she assumed he knew the lever was. Anna turned her head away from watching his stream and back to the turbine.
"Alright, let's get this show on the road." Anna braced her hands against the side of one of the turbines and began to push. At first nothing happened, so she kicked the power on some more. Immediately there was a groan in the turbine but it began to move slowly but gaining.
AVA
"Well, look at this." Loki's silky voice rolled over her beaten shoulders as she stumbled her way into his cell room. She stood up straighter, meeting his eyes just as he came out of the cell room. Ava stopped where she was, flinging her hair over one of her shoulders, having sheathed her claws on the painful climb up the stairs. "Oh, how the mighty have fallen."
"Speak for yourself." She remarked back, slinging her head to the side to crack it. The loud noise that followed was metal in origin with a sick sound of flesh as well. It never failed to creep her enemies out, and when she turned back to look at him even Loki was sneering at herself. "I'm as healthy as a horse, although didn't I read about you and horses?" She sneered right back.
"Watch your tongue." Loki snapped back, before pausing. It surprised her when he began to chuckle.
"I've just caught you trying to escape, in the middle of battle." She took a few more steps into the room, no longer stumbling but with effort. "A no to your customs, why are you chuckling?"
"Because," Loki did not hesitate to approach her, not the way that she had him. "Unlike you, my darling, I know when I see my match." The possibly mind-controlled man said. Avalon shifted, not turning completely but her eyes followed him all the same. "All the others haven't realized, not even the famous Annabella, that while they are under attack, I am being stolen from right from their hands. That's intelligence." He stood behind her, breathing the last word on her neck. Avalon couldn't stop her shiver, but she quickly took a step forward and swiveled around to keep the man in her sights.
"Intelligence, yes." She slowly told him, taking another step away from him. "But I won't be the only one to come check on you. It's only his worry for me that kept Thor away from you this long. He doesn't trust you, or the people that hold you captive." Avalon took another step away but he only followed. All of her nerves were on end and if she tensed her muscles any more, she was kind of afraid that they'd melt off.
"Thor," He scoffed at the mention of him. "Let's not bring him up, shall we?" Loki's long arm reached out and he slowly fingered a curl of her dark black hair. "When it's just you and me…?"
"Loki," Avalon eyed him, tugging her head back to make her hair fall out of his grip. "I don't appreciate what you're insinuating." She growled, her claws making a soft snick as they came out of her knuckles.
"Ah-ah," Loki shook his head, not at all bothered by the appearance of her claws, though he did eye them up for a few moments. "You'll be very appreciative of my offer. You are intelligent, and my brother doesn't deserve that." Loki stepped forward again, and Avalon stood her ground, gritting her teeth. "But I do. Think of the things we could accomplish together, with you by my side." Avalon barked out a sarcastic laugh.
"By your side?" Avalon chuckled. "Plea-"
"What do you think awaits you?" Loki interrupted her. "At his side? As his Queen? Hmmm? A pretty crown and no control. You'll be a pet to warm his bed and raise his children." Loki leant down to get in her face with both his words and his actual face. Avalon leant slightly away, uneasy with him near her even though she knew he couldn't kill her. There were worse things than being killed. "That's what awaits every queen of Asgard. What do you think happened to my mother? She's nothing but a jewel at my father's side, never leaves the palace-"
"It's none of your business what awaits me at Thor's side." Avalon spit, using one hand to pull her claws in front of her, right under Loki's chin. "For I know what would await me at yours. With him, I get love. With you, I get slavery." She snarled, and then laughed.
"You don't want me as your Queen. What you want is to take me away from your brother. Don't play foolish games with me, trickster. I know why you are attempting to court me away." What she didn't see, was the agent behind her. Nor did she see him shoot a bullet filled with a special Asgardian mixture at her.
All she saw was the grating under her feet as she fell to her knees.
"Remarkable, really." Loki said, unbothered as he kneeled to her bent form. "How you can be so blind to your opportunities. No matter, your intelligence makes up for your common behavior." He grabbed her chin, and Avalon could see through the haze that was taking her over. His eyes were hard and still shone with that strange blue. "I'll steal you from Thor another way then."
As he released her chin, she fell not only to the floor, but to her mind as well.
Her last sight before passing out was of Loki picking her up by her collar to drag her out of the way of Thor's hulking form. Thor was trapped in the jail cell as she succumbed to Loki's magic.
ANNA
"Ugh…" Anna grunted loudly at the speed she was going around the turbine. "Tony!" She shouted into her helmet. "Now would a good time for you and Cap." She remarked, her helmet was held in its position by the force of the wind around her. Anna tried to look around her but all she could see was the hulking metal.
"Hold on, Anna." Tony grunted back at her and she groaned in exasperated pain.
"I can't really hold on to anything," Anna snapped back. "Seeing as I'm in the middle of a turning turbine!" She shouted the last part. She watched as the metal began to fall away from her arms and she panicked. "Tony!"
"We've got unfriendlies-" Tony tried to explain, not realizing the danger his fiancé was in to distracted by the three men shooting at him. It wasn't but a few seconds in between her being disconnected from the turbine that she was slammed into the one behind her.
"To late." She whispered fearfully just as the turbine caught her leg and slung her underneath it. She screamed as her Iron suit was slung around with her inside of it. "Tony!" She screamed as her head smashed against the sides of the turbine. Her body was slung everywhere and she could feel blood coming up and the taste of copper was dark in the back of her throat. Suddenly the turbines stopped enough for her to fall out between them, and fall she did.
She fell out of the sky, completely oblivious to the screams of her fiancé who was trying to race after her, and losing her in the clouds. Her suit was offline, her tracker beaten off her suit by the turbines, and her faithful JARVIS trying to come back online.
She was oblivious to all of this because she had fallen unconscious moments after smashing her head into the side of the turbine.
Well, that was kind of unexpected.
I mean, I planned Avalon's roll in the battle. She was always going to be captured by Loki and taken with him as incentive for Thor, but Anna… I don't even know what I'm going to do from here but this is an exciting twist. Oh just wait until Tony reacts. Maybe I'll put in a POV of him…what do you think? Would anyone like to see that besides me? I'm curious as to what he's thinking. I think I might write the scene where they find out Coulson's dead, but instead show them upset because they think Anna's dead.
Evil. That's what I'm feeling.
