Bruce remains off in a corner for awhile and then gets ready to quietly slip out. As he edges toward the door, he finds himself suddenly blocked by Kenzi who hugs him. "Thank you." she says as he awkwardly allows the embrace of the tiny human. "You're welcome Kenzi." Bruce says quietly. As Bruce looks up from Kenzi he sees Hale extending his hand. Bruce shakes hands with Hale and Hales says "It is beautiful." Bruce nods and heads out.
Bruce walks alone toward home. He had hoped for something else, but he was pleased at how the sword had come out. "Bruce!" Bruce turns and is surprised to see Grace hurrying after him; he stops and allows her to catch up.
"Your name is Grace, right?" Bruce asks.
"I've had many names, but you may call me Grace."
"Shouldn't you be back at the party?" Bruce asks.
"I go where I am needed." Grace responds and takes Bruce by the arm much to his surprise and begins to walk with him away from the house.
"You feel that you are needed… here?" Bruce asks.
"Yes. You and I are much alike."
"We are?" Bruce says looking down at Grace snuggled along side him.
"We are."
"How?"
"That is something we should explore in leisure." Grace says smiling. Bruce is becoming increasingly awkward.
"Relationships between humans and fae are strictly prohibited."
Grace pouts. "I've noticed that Kenzi lives with Bo and Lauren seems… pretty friendly with Bo as well."
"To allow Kenzi to say there, Bo claimed Kenzi. Lauren belongs to the Light Fae." Bruce explains.
"I'm living there and nobody seems to mind."
"For now, but it has only been tolerated because Bo is unaligned. Eventually there will be objections about Bo having so many humans around her. Adam may be a special case, but…"
"Poor me." Grace smiles. "Why is Adam a special case?" Grace asks. Bruce sputters a bit realizing he's already said too much. "It's all right." Grace smiles and snuggles closer holding Bruce's huge arm with both of hers as they walk slowly onward. "I already know. Adam has told your Morrigan that I'm with him." Bruce is startled. "The night he bought you dinner…" Bruce thinks and nods, he'd barely noticed Grace that night.
Grace turns Bruce into the cemetery walkway. "What are we doing here?" Bruce asks.
"Holy ground, holy ground is safe for people like me at least from other people like me."
"You are…?"
"Say it."
"You are like Kenzi?" Grace smiles. "You are like Adam?" Grace tilts her head back and forth.
"I think I have more in common with Kenzi than Adam."
"How old are you?" Bruce asks and then regrets it.
Grace pouts. "Why is it people always ask that question? Oh well. I had my first death…" Bruce is startled. "… it's fine. I had my first death when I was only a few years older than Kenzi is now, but unlike Kenzi my first death was about six hundred years ago." Bruce is startled to learn the woman gently holding his arm in a familiar manner that is a mix of seductive and motherly is six times his age. He also realizes that he's becoming comfortable with this familiarity which he would normally have resisted. Grace guides Bruce to a convenient bench in an out of the way area and they sit down. Grace pats Bruce's hand. Her light French accent is very pleasing to listen to.
"Has Kenzi….?" Bruce asks not sure how to word his question.
"Yes. But the important things are that it is something that had to happen in order to trigger her immortality and that she's now perfectly healthy. It requires a violent death to transform one of us from a 'pre-immortal' to an immortal." Bruce still appears upset. "The funny part was that Hale and Lauren thought they'd saved her." Grace grins and wrinkles her nose at Bruce who lightens up. "We are alike, you and I."
"You said that before."
"I did. We aren't like others of our kind. We are different from them in ways they don't understand." Grace explains.
Bruce thinks and nods. "Perhaps."
"Think about it. From what I know of you, you study history and other scholarly topics normally frowned upon by the fae. You also avoid fighting unless ordered to do it. You also rarely feed on humans and don't kill them unlike most dark fae." Bruce nods. "What I don't understand is why you chose the dark." Grace looks to Bruce for an answer.
Bruce thinks for a long time. "Choosing the dark was more to please my father than anything else. But the dark also allow more freedom in how you spend your time as long as you meet certain obligations."
"Such as when you fight." Grace observes and Bruce nods. "I may be the only immortal not to carry a sword. I go where I am needed and I don't hide on holy ground. I'm surprised that I've survived this long." Bruce chuckles a bit. "What?"
"Dyson told me…"
"Told you what?"
"Perhaps I should not have mentioned that; Dyson also said it is something you would not sanction."
"What?" Grace insists.
"Dyson told me that Adam threatened Kenzi and himself that if they did anything to harm you, there would be a severe price to pay." Grace is aghast. "Adam wouldn't really hurt Kenzi would he?"
"If he is what they say he is… I don't know how much of what he was is still in him."
"Grace, if any of the fae harm you, I just might mete out some severe consequences myself."
Grace smiles and hugs Bruce's massive tattooed arm. "I appreciate that. But I'm a doctor and will do no harm, nor sanction harm being done for me."
"I'd better walk you back before they worry." Bruce gets up, with Bruce holding his arm they walk back toward Bo's house.
Grace enters the house and Bruce heads for his home feeling much better.
