Chapter 10 Powerless

Night had settled in on the small group of travelers. Miroku was tending to the fire, while Kohaku was out with Kirara gathering more wood. Kagome was sitting in the distance of the fire. Her back was facing the flames as she nursed Isamu. Miroku had bandaged her wounded arm, not saying much about what happened. As Miroku settled down by the fire, he added a few more pieces of wood. He soon heard Kagome humming a tune. Quietly Miroku listened as Kagome sang.

"Hush, little baby don't say a word. Mamma's going to buy you a mockingbird. And if that mockingbird won't sing, mamma's gonna buy you a..."

The tune suddenly halted causing Miroku to opened his eyes turning his eyes in his dear friend´s direction, and the silence made sense. The tune had been replaced my silent sobs and sniffs. Miroku could only imagine what all this must've felt like for Kagome.

'I had hoped after InuYasha got his memory back things would've been better. With Akane involved it's a lot worse now.' Miroku thought shaking his head sadly as he stood and went to comfort his friend. His footsteps cracked in the cold silent air, but they drowned in the girl´s sobs. He set down beside her, but didn't make any moves.

A long silence fell upon them as her sniffs grew shorter, Miroku knew she tried to collect herself and gave her time to do so. He let his eyes fall on the small blinking lights above them, the snaps of the fire echoing in-between the trees.

"Miroku, I messed up... I should've removed the beads the day I returned to this time." Kagome hugged Isamu to her a little more as he nursed. Tears rolled down her cheeks that were already soaked with tears from before. "Now here I am paying for my mistake. And my poor husband is now a slave to that, that witch!"

Placing his arm around Kagome's shoulders, Miroku tried his best to comfort her. "Kagome, it might not seem like it now. But you know that InuYasha will overcome this. It might take awhile, but one good thing is he remembers you. Never forget that important difference" Miroku gave her a comforting smile, it wasn´t much, but all he could give before his eyes turned serious again, staring into the fire. "Don't worry, Akane has a weakness. We'll find it in time and when we do everything well be back to normal."

Sorrow and anger was in her voice as she spoke. "No Miroku, you're wrong. This is totally different from before. Akane is right, we can't win this time."

Taking his hand away. Miroku slowly stood, with his head bowed and staff in one hand. A smile then came to his face. "My dear Kagome, I think you know just as much as I that InuYasha will not quit so easily. Have faith, InuYasha remembers you now. It is simply a matter of breaking the spell on the beads." Slowly Miruko started to walk away.

"Oh Miroku, I hope you're right." She whispered as she brought her face close to Isamus´s face, a stray tear slipping down the child´s face.

Ever since the encounter with Kagome, InuYasha had been running. His mind racing as he ran. 'How am I going to beat this! Even with Tetsusaiga in my hands I can hardly control my demon. How is it that Akane can draw out my demon even with Tetsusaiga in my hand?!' he hissed.These thoughts kept going through his head as he ran. He was about to stop when Akane appeared right in front of him.

"In a hurry are we InuYasha, what a pity you can never excape me." InuYasha was growling, as Akane smiled at him.

"Feh, oh I'll escape wench. You'll never win this fight." InuYasha said, as he placed his clawed hand on his sword. He was ready to fight till his death if he had too.

Akane gave a chuckle as she got closer to him. "Oh really InuYasha, you really think you can attack me? You are just a half-breed, a nothing compared to me. And as long as you are wearing those beads around your neck. You InuYasha are my personal slave."

With his clawed hand on Tetsusaiga, InuYasha growled. Jumping back away a few feet from Akane as he drew his sword. "You're dead." He growled out as he leaped into the air with sword over his head ready to cut Akane in half.

Akane merely chuckled before stepping to the side and yelled. "Bakemono!"

Once again InuYasha's world went black as the spell took hold of his body. "Do not try me half-demon. I have more power then that miko you call your wife will ever have." Akane could see the anger building even more at the mention of his wife. So she decided to add more fuel to the growing fire. "Next time she interferes I will destroy her. If your miko is smart InuYasha she will stay away."

Out of nowhere one of InuYasha's clawed hands slashed out at Akane causing her to step away. With his fangs bared, and his eyes glowing red InuYasha spoke as his breath slowly came to him. "You...leave...Ka...gome...alone... Don't you...dare..touch her..."

Akane only laughed at his demands. "Oh InuYasha, you know she won't give up on saving you. So it's only a matter of time before she dies. And she shall die by your very hand InuYasha."

InuYasha growled at Akane as she laughed. This wench was really pissing him off now. How dare she think he'd kill the very woman and the mother of his son. 'My son.' The very thought of his son brought some peace to his mind. He would win this and be the father to his son. He would never leave Kagome and his child suffer the way him and his mother did.

"Now then InuYasha it is time we test your powers." Akane snapped her fingers. "Come or do I need to to summon your demon blood again?"

A small line of blood ran from his mouth as InuYasha stood. Taking his sleeve of his robe he wiped it away and said. "No!"

Akane was truly enjoying this game. "Very good now then let's see how well you work as a killing machine."

Soon InuYasha and Akane came to a small village. Akane smiled as the approached the happy village. Farmers where out tending to their fields as the children played in the dirt roads. Oh yes this was just what Akane was hoping for. InuYasha stayed behind Akane not sure what the purpose was for them to be here at this village. "Keh, so why are we here anyway wench?" InuYasha asked, crossing his arms.

"Well InuYasha, I've decided to start out small. Now then InuYasha I want you to destroy this village and all who live here."

InuYasha left out a growl. "THE HELL I WILL!" He shouted.

Akane snickered at InuYasha boldness. "Very well then, I shall have your demon do it." Once again Akane called out the command causing InuYasha to lose himself to the pain and darkness. This time he couldn't hold back as his demon took over. The last thing he remembered was Kagome and how happy she looked when she knew he remembered her.

Akane chucked as she watched InuYasha destroy the villagers homes and fields. Soon though she noticed something. 'Strange, why is he not killing any of the villagers?' Her thoughts were interrupted when a strange presence was felt.

A demon dressed in a white kimono, his silver hair blowing in the wind slowly approaching her. "Who are you demon, and why are you here?"

I silvered demon did not answer her as he come closer. Akane started to grow uneasy the closer he came to her. Akane could feel this silver haired demon's powers were great. "Answer me demon or I shall kill you!" She took a few steps back. "This is your final warning don't make me kill you." Akane started to raise her hand to attack. 'This demon was not like the others.' She thought as she prepared to attack. The demon showed no emotion on his face as he stood only feet away from her.

At that very moment InuYasha jumped in between them. "So InuYasha, I see you have once again been possessed by your demon blood. Pathetic little brother. And you women, are a half-demon as well. What makes you think you can kill me?"

Akane stood tall as she spoke. "I am Akane, and I shall rule this world. I have power like no other and with this half-demon I will be unstoppable." Akane gave an evil laugh.

"Ridiculous, you have no real power. You are merely a half-demon who thinks that taking over a priestess's body you'll be able to defeat anything that gets in your way. And you InuYasha, I think it's time you come to your senses." With these final words the silver haired demon continued on his way.

"What a strange demon. He is indeed a strong one." A growl from InuYasha made her look his way. "So tell me my pet, why is it you killed none of the villagers?"

His demon blood had already started to subside, but his voice still sounded monstrous. "I..will..not kill...humans."
