Chapter 8: Password
Yahiru's POV:
I sat up in bed the whole night.
Thinking what happened today.
"Finish the leader off, Soyaki!" Len yelled and punched the attacker.
But Soyaki didn't seem to hear.
"So long weakly." Soyaki chuckled and raised a fist, green light glowing around his hand.
"No please let me go!" the leader begged, he seem to see the green light too.
Soyaki's eyes glowed dark green as his smirk widen.
"No!"
I ran up to Soyaki and stood between him and the leader.
"You can't kill!" I whispered as my eyes started to water.
His gazed at me with his glowing eyes.
Fear raised in me as I realized he didn't recognize me, all that shows in his eyes were the light of fight and kill. His aura was all black.
The leader got an opening and he fled, when the gang realized their leader have already ran they followed with terrified squeaks.
Soyaki's eyes glowed brighter as he glared at me.
So dark filled with hater, rage, fury and blood-thirst
…..
I snapped out of my thoughts when someone knocked my door.
"Come in!" I called.
The door opened and Soyaki peered in.
"School today."
I nodded and thought why he came to tell me that.
Then I remembered I broke my alarm clock – again.
Soyaki closed the door and went downstairs.
I sighed and got dressed: a plain T-shirt with 'DON'T MESS WITH ME' in bolt letters, blue jeans, tied my hair in a low ponytail – some hair loose in my face.
I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.
I only drank a glass of juice and mom drove us to school.
I walked down the hallway to my locker to get my books.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to greet Kirome.
"How's Soyaki?" she asked after we greeted each other.
"What do you mean?"
"Is he alright this morning?"
"Of course!" I snapped.
Kirome blinked and narrowed her eyes. I mumbled an apology.
"It's just….that he acted pretty strangely yesterday," Kirome pointed out.
I looked down the hallway at Soyaki who was talking to Len, Kirome followed my gaze.
"It's been a while since I saw him like that," I murmured.
"Huh?" Kirome turned to me. "Did you say something?"
I shook my head. "He only acted like that once but it's worst this time."
"Something similar happened to my brother."
My eyes widen. "Your brother? Len?"
She looked at the ground and nodded.
"It was seven years ago when I was seven and Len was eight. We went on a lake camping, some boys pushed me into the water when we were rowing a boat. The teacher was too far away to hear us. I could swim yes but Len was furious. He pushed two of the boys into the water and beat the rest up pretty badly for our young age. He almost killed one by pushing his head underwater and wouldn't let him up. That's when I saw….." she stopped and stared into the distance like she can see what happened those years ago.
I placed a hand on her shoulder.
"His eyes were…..so…so…"
"Dark filled with blood-thirst." I finished.
She nodded and carried on, "I was scared and started to swim back to shore. I told the teacher we were in trouble but didn't give my brother away.
"Brother let the boy go just before we reached them but the teacher had to give him CPR and it was a close call that time.
"Brother just glared at the boy as the teacher saved him, he wasn't scared even if the boy died. He even hissed with annoyance when the boy was saved.
"The other boys were terrified and kept their mouths shut. Brother only came back to sense when I shook his shoulder.
"Every time I thought about that it feels like it only happened yesterday. When Soyaki fought yesterday it was like that thing was happening again but more violence this time."
I nodded.
"Hey!"
We both jumped and turned. Clorisa and Ninaru walked up to us with a cheerful smile like nothing happened.
"Hi girls!" Clorisa greeted.
I rolled my eyes punched her arm.
"Hey! I'm not a tomboy you know!" she squeaked.
"Your bothers were awesome yesterday!" Ninaru squealed.
"And so cool!" Clorisa squeaked.
Some girls turned to us and smiled or waved, clearly want to know what we're talking about.
I growled in annoyance.
The bell rang and we all went to our classes.
The history teacher chatted on and on about someone that's long dead.
Somehow I dozed off and fell into an uncomfortable sleep.
Something that happened eight years ago…..
Flashback:
"Hiru-chan!"
I turned to my friend, Sam.
"I said don't call me Hiru-chan!" I scowled.
"Why? Yahiru sounds too big."
"Hiru-chan sounds too babyish," I shot back.
"But we're only six!" Sam argued.
"Just don't!" I muttered and walked away with a soccer ball under one arm.
"Where are you going?!" Sam called.
"To the park!" I shouted over my shoulder.
"But school is not yet over!" Sam called.
"I don't care!" I yelled back.
I walked to the park and started to play soccer on my own.
I heard loud laughing and turned to see a gang of children about nine or ten.
One of the fattest pushed a girl to the floor and took away her candy.
"Give the lolly back to Bella!" her friend yelled.
Another boy pushed Bella's friend roughly to the ground next to her.
They started to laugh.
I looked around but no adults were in sight so I walked up to them, quiet foolish huh? But I can't just let them bully the girls around.
"Give that sweet back to the girl!" I tried to sound grown up but at least my voice is low.
"What do you want to do about that huh?" the second boy mocked.
"I said give it back!" I yelled and kicked my soccer ball hard at them.
The ball hit one boy and he fell to the ground holding his nose.
"How dare you!" another boy growled and punched the side of my face.
I fell and glared at them.
Another boy grabbed my hair and pulled me to my knees.
"Who do you think you are huh girl?"
They burst out laughing.
My soccer ball shot back and knocked the boy who was grabbing me in the stomach.
He let go of me and fell to his knee while holding his belly.
I turned and smiled happily. "Nii-san!" I called.
My heart lunched when I saw the hater in my brother's eyes.
He bared his teeth and his eyes narrowed in splits, his hands clutched tightly into fists.
He shot forward and punched the boy who hit me in the nose.
"How dare you hit my sister!" He yowled and started to beat the other boys up.
I heard the other two girls backing away.
I stared at my violence brother with shock.
Quickly as the fight started, it ended.
Brother stared or better said glared at the fattest boy.
I shivered just by looking at brother's eyes.
So cold…. so blood-thirsty…. so dark….
The word I used to describe the aura then was… evil…..
The boy gave the sweet back and ran away, the others followed.
Brother turned to the two girls.
They both were trampling.
His eyes soften and he smiled as he gave the sweet back. I could see relief on the girls' faces.
He turned to me and said softly, "Let's go back to school."
He picked up the ball and we went back to school.
The passing few days I checked if brother have strange actions not none came.
Flashback end:
I forgot about that quickly…..
"Miss Matsubara."
But now I'm worried again…..
"Miss Matsubara."
Will Soyaki act like this in the future?
"Miss Matsubara!"
I eyes snapped open and I shot out of the set, making my chair fall backwards.
I came face to face with our history teacher.
"That must be a good sleep you had there, mind you teaching me how can you fall asleep so easily?" the teacher raised an eyebrow.
"Well…" I said, "It's quiet easy when you chatter the whole time but you'll have to find someone as good as you to make you fall asleep in ten seconds."
The class burst out laughing and I saw Soyaki slam his head on his table, I know his embarrassed.
Len was grinning at me beside my brother and whispered something in his ear, Soyaki just grunted something back.
The teacher looks as if he was about to explode.
"Go and stand outside!" his shouted.
I rolled my eyes and walk slowly towards the door.
The teacher was muttering to himself as he walked towards the front of the class.
I pulled a face at him before I closed the door which made the class burst out laughing again.
The teacher silenced them and carries on with his endless speech.
I stood there and stared out the window, drifting off in my own thoughts.
Standing outside is far better than inside the class.
Later that afternoon….
4.13 p.m.
"I'll be back late so don't wait for me OK? If you want to talk to me wait till tomorrow," mom said and swung her bag over her shoulder.
She never uses a purse or handbag, just like me.
I stood there drinking coke with a straw. Soyaki was sitting on the coach reading a book.
"If you're hungry call a pizza or go to somewhere to eat together OK?"
I pointed an OK sign with my free hand and Soyaki nodded.
She nodded and went out the door.
I heard her motorbike's engine boom to life, did I tell you she have a car and motorbike? Well my mom had both. I'm dying to have a bike of mine own.
Soyaki peered out the window and closed his book.
He went upstairs. I heard him ruffling through some things.
I tilted my head to one side, he usually keeps his stuffs neat and tidy so it easy to look for things – unless it's something that he doesn't someone to find.
I placed my coke on the table and ran upstairs to see Soyaki walking out of his room with something in his hand.
"What's that?"
He grinned and beckoned me with his hand to follow.
He led us into mom's room and to her computer.
He plugged a small memory card into her computer and looked at me.
"I'll be able to connect her computer to mine so I'll be able to see what her password of her Facebook is," he said.
A smirk spread on my lips as we walked out mom's room.
We called some pizza and went to our rooms afterward.
I lied in my bed and stared at the ceiling.
A few hours passed.
Finally the lock of the door clicked and mom and came back.
She went to her room and I heard her door close.
I quickly got up and walked up to Soyaki's room.
I scratched softly and he opened the door.
We use to do this when we were small, when we're sneaking into each other's room to eat snacks or read scary stories. We scratch the door to tell each other that it's not mom.
We sat in front of Soyaki's laptop and waited.
The window of the Facebook clicked on by itself but I know it's my mom.
We watched as mom entered her E-mail and finally her password…..
