Jack just stood in shock before looking back at Bo. "Lawrence's house?"
Bo stood there looking at his friend. The name Alamain to this day still sent chills up his spine. Steve stood, keeping his temper in check. Bo saw this and continued.
"Lawrence sold it when he left with Carly all those years ago, so as much as I hate to admit it, for once, I think he's innocent" Kayla then joined the group out in the blizzard. "Steve, what are you going to do?
"I'm going to call the ISA and then I'm going to get Jennifer out of there and back where she belongs"
Jack saw this and spoke up, keeping his fury at Baby Howie in check. There were more important things at the moment and he couldn't afford to let his feelings get into the way. "You want me to wait around here while you and the ISA play hero? Hell, no. I'm going to get my wife". As Jack began to get into Jennifer's SUV, Steve grabbed him.
"Damn it Billy Jack, you can't go in there. You go there half cocked, you'll get you and your woman killed! This dude is playing with 51 cards!"
"Well, what the hell am I supposed to do?" Jack began to shake and breathe heavily. "I can't just sit by while that sick bastard has my wife" Jack's voice began to crack, but he kept himself composed, "I will not sit around and wait for the ISA. You don't want me to get killed, help me then! I needed your help once, but you couldn't through no fault of your own. Now I'm asking again...are you in?" Jack looked into the eyes of the brother he loved.
"Yeah, let's get your woman back. Bo, come on!" Steve yelled over the wind howling around them. As Jack, Steve, and Bo began to get into the SUV, Hope and Kayla looked at each other, disgusted. Hope decided to step in. "Hey, chauvinists! What the hell are we supposed to do? Wait here for our men to get back from the war?" Hope said in a snide southern accent.
As Bo opened up his mouth to speak, Hope interrupted him. "I'm not going to endanger this baby unnecessarily in any way, Brady. There is no way in hell you're leaving us behind. Either we help you, or we follow you. What's it going to be?"
Kayla walked up to stand next to Hope. "I'm with you, Hope".
Steve and Bo looked at their wives, then at each other and began to laugh. They knew when to surrender. "Fine, Baby" Steve said. "I know that if I don't, you're going to get yourselves into trouble. At least this way, I can keep an eye on you"
Hope and Kayla looked at each other in triumph. Then they joined the guys as they climbed into Jennifer's SUV.
Hawk watched Jennifer, who was prone and weak on the floor, even more so from the effects of the second dose of thiopental. Then he gently brushed her hair out of her face. "I'm awfully sorry for what I had to do to you, but you wouldn't have come with me otherwise."
Jennifer drowsily looked at Hawk. He wasn't just a con man. He was insane. "What...about...my husband? My...children?"
Hawk smiled at her. "Don't worry. Jack can take care of them. I can't have others take you away from me, Jenny. Besides, children are a needless pain. They just get in the way and noisy. You don't need that...only me"
Jennifer continued to lie on the floor and muttered, "Hawk, I...don't...love you...I...love...Jack".
Hawk's smile turned cold. He grabbed Jennifer by the hair and pulled her up until she was eye to eye with him, causing another wave of dizziness and nausea. "YOU LISTEN TO ME! JACK IS NO LONGER PART OF YOUR LIFE! I AM! I KNOW YOU ONLY PUT ME IN PRISON BECAUSE HE MADE YOU! HE WILL NOT TAKE YOU AWAY FROM ME AGAIN...UNDERSTAND?"
Before Jennifer could say anything, Hawk continued his deluded speech. "He's the reason I have this face! He's the reason I was in prison! Because of that smarmy bastard, I spent 10 years being spit on and beaten. Do you know what else they do to new guys in prison?"
As Jennifer's eyes widened in realization, Hawk continued his tirade. "Six guys one night. That was just the first time. I fought back once...so they cut up the right half of my face! I got this face in Mexico!"
Hawk's face dissolved into a fit of maniacal laughs before he continued. "How do think I knew how to fool that insipid Harold? "He was so...annoying! Fags make me sick, but I knew he was my ticket to you! Who would suspect a homo of trying to be with a woman? It was perfect!"
Jennifer continued to sit stunned at the depths Hawk went to in order to get revenge. She winced at the pain of Hawk's pulling her hair. Guilt over Harold began to wash over her, along with a headache, vertigo and residual nausea from the thiopental. 'Have to stay lucid, Jennifer'
However, sleepiness was beginning to crawl and overtake her. Something he said earlier clicked. The reporter in her needed to know why. "When you...said this place...had...significance for me... what...did you...mean?"
Hawk stared at the face of the woman he loved. "This house belonged to someone who hurt you once. When I found this place, I realized it was perfect. It's out of the way, so we won't be disturbed. This house is part of your past and will remind you of what you're leaving behind. I'm your future." Hawk then took her hand and gently kissed it. If Jennifer could she would have smacked him, but was weak and still nauseated.
Hawk saw her dazed state. "You look tired, so I'll let you be". He then walked away from her. "I have to finalize a couple of things, but I'll be back." With that, he left her and locked the door.
Jennifer made herself begin to sit up. Being weak was not going to get her out of here...and getting to Jack before Hawk did. She knew what would happen if anyone interferes with Hawk. Suddenly, she remembered where the room came from. Memories came up in a flash as she attempted to stand up, but she was hit with another wave of headaches and nausea before she laid down and closed her eyes.
Jennifer's SUV stopped about a block from the Alamain house. Jack and Steve were in the front seat, with Bo, Hope, and Kayla in the back. "Okay all, we need a plan. Jack, how much of the set-up of the Alamain house do you remember? I know you got a good look when you searched for that tape for Jenn's trial."
Steve turned to Bo, "What trial?"
Jack began to pale, but knew he had to keep it together, for Jennifer's sake. "It was Lawrence Alamain, but we'll talk about it later. Right now, we need to get to my wife." Jack turned to Bo. "I remember enough".
"Okay, all, we are going to have to tread carefully. We don't know if Hawk's armed, but he's a few fries short of a happy meal. If we aren't careful, this thing could blow up in our face, and Jennifer's life will be in more danger than it is now".
Bo turned to Steve and Kayla. "Steve, Jack, Hope, and I will separate and try to find out where Jenn is. Kayla, you stay with the car, so we can be ready to make a break for it. Clear?" Everyone nodded their heads. "Let's all put our cell phones on vibrate so if we have to call someone, it won't make a sound". Everyone did that. Steve had some problems with his, so Kayla helped him.
"I'm still trying to get used to these dumb things" Steve muttered to himself.
"Okay, we are going to have to leave the SUV here because Hawkins will see the headlights pull up." Bo realized.
"Brady, we can't run a block in this weather. We can barely see a foot ahead of us. What if Jenn's injured?"
"We don't have a choice, Fancy Face. Unless you have a better idea"
Hope pondered for a moment. "Jack, does Jennifer keep a flashlight in the car?"
Jack looked at her. "We can't drive with a flashlight!"
Hope looked at Jack with a knowing look. "I know the weather is bad, but if we can get the car closer without letting Hawk know we're here, we have a better chance of getting to Jenn" She looked at her husband, "Brady, you know I'm right about this".
Jack looked at her and then at Steve. "She keeps it in the glove compartment". Steve fished around until he found a Maglite with a fluorescent light. "Okay, Steve, shine it on the road"
Steve rolled down the window and turned it on. "I'm coming Mrs. D...I'm coming" Jack said as he slowly drove his wife's car in the blizzard with only a flashlight to guide him.
Hawk entered Jennifer's room again. Something told him that she was up to no good. She couldn't leave. She just came back to him. 'I can't lose her again'
Jennifer was asleep, due to the double dose of thiopental. She didn't hear Hawk as he walked up to where she was laying down sleeping. Hawk kneeled down beside her.
"God you're beautiful. I lost you once, but I won't lose you again" Hawk said to himself as he injected her again, this time with phenobarbital.
He then walked out, locked the door and came down to the living room. As he made his way into the living room, he looked around with a smile on his face. All over the fireplace and walls were pictures of Jennifer. There were early ones taken when he took her horseback riding one day. Some others were more current ones taken over the last ten months. He looked over to another wall. On it was Jack and Jennifer's second wedding announcement. A red line was slashed across it. Hawk looked at it, then fury overcame him as he ripped it off the wall and tore it to shreds. "She's mine now! Deveraux, you will die!" as he ripped pictures off of his wall.
