A/N: Chapter ten is up guys! Hope you like it! Please review!
"What the hell was that! Does he even care that she's gone?" Hayley asks.
"No. He doesn't care about anything anymore." I say.
"But how…." she trails off the colour draining from her face "He really did it didn't he? He flipped the humanity switch."
"Seems like it yeah." Elijah says.
"She can't be dead. She was fine just a few minutes ago." I say. "Maybe he made a mistake. Sometimes the blood takes a little while to take effect right?"
"Sometimes yes." Elijah says.
"So should one of us go after him?" Hayley asks looking out into the night.
"No. I think he's best left alone for now." he says.
"I'm gonna go sit with Yetta." I say. "She's going to wake up. She has to wake up, she can't die. Not like this."
"We'll all sit with her, we'll take it in shifts till she wakes up." Elijah says. "You take the first shift and either Hayley or I will relieve you in a few hours."
"Ok. Thanks." I say forcing a quick smile before turning and walking into Yetta's room shutting the door behind me. "Please wake up Yetta, Klaus needs you in his life." I say softly. "We all do."
A few hours pass, the sun comes up Yetta hasn't shown any signs of life. I sigh and get up to fetch myself a blood bag from fridge in the kitchen returning a few minutes later and resuming my seat at the bedside. Sticking the bag with a straw and bringing it to my mouth I take a long drink savouring the sweet coppery taste. I finish the bag and am about to get up to put it in the bin when I hear the sound of stirring coming from the bed behind me and turn just in time to see Yetta's eyes slowly flutter open as she pushes herself into a sitting position.
"Ugh where am I and why do I feel like I've been run over by a fleet of Mack trucks?" she asks croakily.
I launch myself at her throwing my arms round her in a tight hug that would probably in hindsight have killed her had she been human. "You're ok!" I say tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Why wouldn't I be?" she asks.
"You got bitten by a werewolf last night." I say.
"Oh well that explains why I feel like I've been hit by a truck." she says. "Wait…Werewolf bites are fatal how am I still alive if it happened last night?"
"The blood of the Original Hybrid cures the bite of a Werewolf." I explain.
"Klaus's blood healed me?" she asks.
"Yeah. But it was pretty dicey there for a while. We thought we'd lost you." I say.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to put you all through that." she says with a grimace.
"Hey. I thought I heard voices, mind if I come in?" Hayley asks poking her head round the door.
"Not at all, the more the merrier." I say.
"Welcome back to the land of the living!" Hayley says walking into the room carrying Hope "or you know….undead" she adds with a smirk.
"Thanks, it's good to be back. So you and Hope got back ok?" Yetta asks.
"Yeah we did thanks to you. I don't know what we would have done if you hadn't been there." Hayley says.
"Oh it was nothing." Yetta says waving off her thanks.
"On the contrary it was everything. My daughter probably wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for you. You saved our lives, and for that I am eternally grateful." Hayley says.
"You are eternally welcome. I wouldn't have let those flea bags hurt any child much less one I consider to be family." Yetta says. "Sorry, I hope that's presumptuous. I consider the Mikaelsons to be family so by extension I consider you Hope to be family too."
"It's not presumptuous. You are family, I know I've told her all about her crazy Aunty Yets." I say with a smile.
"Yets?" Hayley asks. "I know there's a story behind that one."
"Oh there is. Yets and Beks the greatest jewel thieves of the fourteenth century." I say. "We pillaged and plundered our way through Europe and South America, amassed a fortune in gold, silver and gemstones that would put to shame the collections of many a Queen."
"Where is it all now? Do you still have it?" Hayley asks.
"Most of its stashed in various places throughout Europe, some we've carried with us on our travels and some has been lost or destroyed." I say.
"So was this just the two of you or Elijah and Klaus as well?" Hayley asks.
"Just the two of us, Elijah and Klaus were around but the jewellery thefts were all ours." Yetta says. "They didn't know about it till fairly late in the game and by then we'd got a routine going so we didn't need any help."
"You ever get caught?" Hayley asks.
"Once or twice. Spent three months in a Spanish prison on one occasion. But they were nicer to us than they were to the other prisoners." I say.
"Why were they nicer to you? Stealing the crown jewels isn't exactly a minor offense." Hayley says.
"A bit of harmless flirting and minor compulsion will go a long way to getting people to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do. They even brought us blood a few times a week no questions asked. I'm not entirely sure where they got the blood from but beggars can't be choosers and it was either take the meagre supply of blood they offered or starve and run the risk of being exposed as vampires which probably would have resulted in being burned at the stake like a witch." I say
"Klaus was not impressed. He sat us down and gave us a really firm talking to, all about keeping our secret a secret and not revealing the fact that we're immortal blood sucking vampires to group of people who would quite literally burn us alive if they were to find out what we were." Yetta says.
"Are you two corrupting her?" Elijah asks coming into the room with a small grin on his face.
"Nope, I was already corrupted before I met them." Hayley says. "They're just educating me, broadening my horizons. Opening up my eyes to the wide world of possibilities."
"I'm all for broadening your horizons, but I'm not entirely sure that stealing priceless artefacts is the best way to do that." he says.
"Artefacts? What like Egyptian scrolls, old coins, stone-age tools, head masks, ancient pottery that kind of thing?" Hayley asks.
"That kind of thing yes." he says.
"They stole priceless artefacts?" Hayley asks.
"Isn't that what you were all talking about?" he asks.
"No they were telling me about the jewel heists and their three months in a Spanish prison." Hayley replies. "I didn't know anything about stolen artefacts till you just brought it up, but I would love to hear more about it."
"Klaus helped us with those, and he tells the story better." I say.
"Speaking of where is that sexy hybrid? I wanna thank him for saving my life." Yetta says.
"He uhh, he kinda didn't react to well when you didn't wake up right after ingesting his blood." I say not meeting her eyes.
"Ok. What does that mean exactly?" Yetta asks.
"Well he kinda ran out into the night and we haven't heard from him since." Elijah says.
"And you didn't go look for him? You just let him go? Don't you get it? He thinks I'm dead and he's probably blaming himself, because he went MIA and didn't get back here in time to give me his blood to heal me. You just let him go when he needs you the most." Yetta snaps at him.
"He switched off his humanity when he came out of your room after you didn't wake up ok? There is NOTHING any of us could do to change that. He's lost to us now the sooner you accept that and move on the better." he says.
"I don't ever want to see you again." Yetta says her voice so cold I can barely recognize it. "He's your brother! How can you just give up him like that? What ever happened to 'always and forever'? Or was that only for when it's convenient for you?"
"No I….." Elijah begins.
"Save it. I don't want to hear any more of your pathetic excuses. I'm going to find him, because unlike you I haven't given up on him and I NEVER will. Wanna know why? I love him no matter what, humanity or no humanity it makes no difference I will ALWAYS love him. Even if I have to spend the next thousand years trying to convince him to switch it back in I am never going to give up on him. You on the other hand can stay here and rot. You're dead to me Elijah." she says shoving past him and walking out of the room slamming the door behind her. A few seconds later the back door slams shut too informing us that she's left the house.
"I think she's mad at you." I comment.
"Thanks for that Rebekah." Elijah says not sounding amused at all.
"I've never seen her that angry before." I say.
"Yes thankyou Rebekah." he says through clenched teeth.
"Well you did kinda tell her to accept the fact that the guy who saved her life on multiple occasions, who also just happens to be her crush of the last thousand years is lost to her and that he's never coming back. So I think she has every right to be pissed." Hayley comments.
"Yeah ok she should hate me, I'll apologize to her when she gets back." he says. "Do you think she's coming back?" he asks.
"She'll be back." I say.
"What are her chances of finding him and getting him to flip the humanity back on?" Hayley asks.
"Pretty good I'd say. If anyone can do it she can, she understands how his mind works better than anyone else. The amount of times she's been able to talk him down when he's been apocalyptically angry well lets just say I've lost count." I say.
"How does she talk him down?" she asks.
"I don't know, she just seems to have this calming effect on him, a few quiet words or a hand on his shoulder and he calms down. There was one time when we were in supernatural battle or other and this young witch was trying to climb the ranks of his little coven, his leader had told him in no uncertain terms not to approach Klaus. But him being the ambitious show off type, and trying to impress the lady witches decided he knew better and cam at Nik with home-made stake. Which of course would have been completely useless against him. So anyway the guy comes barrelling up to Klaus full of battle fury and attempts to drive the stake into his chest." I say.
"I bet that ended well for him." Hayley comments.
"Better than it would've if Yetta hadn't chosen that moment to step in." I say. "Needless to say Klaus was not at all amused by the guys attempt to kill him and spun round faster than the guy could see plucked the stake out of his hand and was poised to stab him through the heart with it when Yetta calmly walks up to him takes the stake from his hand, looks into his eyes, says a few words and he just walks away like nothing happened. The head witch having witnessed this comes over, thanks Yetta for saving the little punk and offers us a truce."
"Did you accept?" Hayley asks.
"Yeah, we lived in peace with them for the next few decades until Mikael came and chased us off." I say.
Yetta's POVAfter giving Elijah a piece of my mind and storming out of the house in towering rage I decide to go for a walk to clear my head before looking for Klaus figuring it probably wouldn't be the best bet talk to him when my emotions are running wild. I walk around the compound taking in the familiar land marks and marvelling at how it has both changed and stayed the same in the hundred and fifty years or so since I was last here. Other than our birth place England, New Orleans has been the only place the Mikaelsons and I have ever really felt at home. Helping build the city a single street to the booming vibrant mix of magic, culture, music and art it is now. There are so many happy memories that took place in this town, everywhere from the French Quarter to Bourbon street, the voodoo shops to the clubs and bars, the docks to the heart of the city.
Having calmed down and brought my emotions back under control I make my way to the place I know I will find Klaus, don't ask me how I know he'll be there I just do. It's where he always goes when he wants to get away from it all and be alone. I slow my pace as I get closer to my destination listening intently for any sound that may indicate him having a companion of some sort. Hearing nothing out of the ordinary I continue on my way breaking the tree line and coming out on top of a hill that commands a wide view of the area. I scan the top of the hill looking for Klaus and see him standing perfectly still staring out towards the bayou.
"I thought I might find you here." I say softly walking up to him and coming to a halt at his side. "You always used to come here when you wanted to get away from it all."
When he doesn't show any sign of having heard me I move so that I am standing in front of him, reaching out and taking his hand in mine. "Nik it's me Yetta." I say.
"I was aware of you the moment you stepped beyond the tree line. I know who you are, I just don't care." he says his voice so flat and emotionless it almost breaks my heart.
"I know you don't mean that." I say softly.
He shrugs and pulls his hand out of mine. "Think what you want, makes no difference to me." he says.
"I came here to thank you for saving my life." I say deciding to try another tactic.
"Well you've done that. Now you can leave." he says turning away from me and walking to the other side of the hill.
"I'm not going anywhere till you turn you humanity back on" I say following him and standing in front of him again.
"Well then you're in for a long wait, because I am never turning it back on. This is the best I've felt in years." he says.
"That's just it, you're not feeling anything. You're just an empty shell." I say.
"Your point?" he asks.
"My point is this is not you." I say.
"Maybe it is." he says
"Fine." I say. "You leave me no choice. I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to this but well desperate times and all that."
"There is nothing you can say or do that will make me switch my humanity back on. I'm done with emotions." he says.
"Ok." I say taking a deep breath and steeling myself for what I am about to say. "That's fine, let Mikael win. He always wanted you to be an emotionless shell, cut off from the people who love you. And now you are that, an emotionless shell, no loved ones, no memories, nothing. Nothing but you and an eternity of knowing your father was right." I trail off letting my words sink in before adding one final sentence I know will get a reaction. "I guess you're more like him than I thought."
"I AM NOTHING LIKE MIKAEL! I WOULD NEVER HARM MY CHILD!" Klaus roars grabbing me by the throat and snapping my neck.
