Chapter 10-
Regina smiled in Emma's directions and Emma gave Regina's hand a reassuring squeeze and let it go. "Sooo where do I live?" At that question Regina choked back a laugh, well telling her this ought to be a fun.
Regina suppressed a laugh and looked at Emma closely; there wasn't an easy way to tell her this, so she just jumped right into it. "Emma, you share an apartment with the lady that was standing out in the hall with the one that pushed me." Emma's face showed disgust, and she shook her head. "Why would I live with someone who doesn't like you?" She asked not understanding what was happening.
Regina sighed and stood up and paced the room a bit, "Emma, our relationship is complicated, we didn't always get along, you and I went through so much to get where we were and at the time when you moved in with Mary Margaret we were at each other's throats." Regina stopped walking and sat back down in the chair next to Emma's bed, while she looked cautiously at the blonde waiting for her reaction.
The blonde's face showed no sign of anger but all that came through was understanding, her face softened softly and she looked towards the door then back at the Regina. "Well… I don't know what happened between you and I Regina, but maybe this will give us a chance to start over… If you want." Regina's eye's shone brighter and her face showed nothing but hope and maybe a bit of surprise, "Oh Emma… I would like that very much." Regina smiled one of her very rare true smiles, the smile that only Henry was privileged to see day in and day out.
Emma smiled back but then her face twisted with discomfort and she moved around on the hospital bed but she just couldn't get comfortable, she sighed with annoyance, "Regina… not to be a pain in the ass, but do you think we could get out of here? This bed is like the most uncomfortable thing in the world." Regina couldn't suppress the tiny laugh that came out as a response to Emma's charming statement, Regina just shook her head in agreement and stood up, pushing the chair back to its previous spot across the room.
Emma hopped off the bed landing just a few inches away from the darker haired one, their arms brushed slightly and Emma felt a current run through her, she shivered at the contact but said nothing, choosing to ignore it for the moment. "All ready Miss Swan?" Regina asked, smirking at the use of Emma's surname. At first when Regina would address Emma as Miss Swan instead of her first name it was a formality, but as time went on Regina found that it annoyed the blonde to no end that she wouldn't call her Emma so she kept it up, but eventually as her feelings for the blonde changed so did the reason she called her that, it was a term of endearment only she would use for the blonde.
Emma rolled her eyes at the use of her last name, "Why yes I am Dear." Emma retorted remembering the name the darker haired woman had called her earlier. Regina turned towards the door, blocking a blush that made its way onto her cheeks. Emma smirked victoriously walking over to the door and pulling it open waiting for Regina to walk through it. The dark haired woman stood up straighter and squared her shoulders and took a deep breath before she walked out into the hallway stopping and waiting for Emma to join her.
The hallway around them was deserted; every now and then there would be an abandoned wheel chair of gurney on the side of the hall, but no people. 'This is odd' Regina thought as both women made their way down the hall and towards the main lobby. As they stepped foot into the place Regina looked around searching the room for people, but there still wasn't anybody there. 'This can't be a good thing.' Regina thought again as she wound her arm through Emma's, ignoring the tingles that she felt, and she pulled the blonde to the exit cautiously.
Emma was slightly startled when she felt the arm snake through hers but one look at the woman next to her and she knew that something wasn't exactly right, she looked around herself noticing that there wasn't any people around which for a hospital we a very strange thing. Emma felt herself getting slightly closer the shorter woman, not so she would feel safer, but incase the woman needed her it wouldn't take long for help to come.
Emma had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, she knew that people around here didn't like Regina, she couldn't remember that clear as day, and her theory was proven in the hall earlier this the girl that pushed her, but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't remember why they didn't like her. Not that it mattered to Emma, people do all sorts of things in their life that they aren't proud of but you can't change what was only what will be, and from what Emma remembers, and what she is seeing today, she knows that the woman next to her isn't a bad person.
The street around them was deserted there were cars parked along the sides of the streets and in parking lots but their owners weren't anywhere to be found. Emma's eyebrows creased as she looked and listened searching for any sign of life in the seemingly deserted town. Regina lead the way to the parking lot where someone had moved her car, no one in this was dumb enough to mess with the Mayors car so when they reached the car it was no surprise that the car was unlocked and the keys were sitting in the center counsel. Regina walked to Emma's side of the car and opened the door for her and with a bright smile Emma thanked her and as soon as she was in the car Regina shut the door and walked back around the car getting in and quickly snatching up her keys.
She threw it into reverse and backed out of the spot as they drove in silence for a few minutes, both searching for any sign of life but coming up empty. Regina looked over at Emma, 'I wonder where she wants me to take her. Would she want to go to her and snows apartment? Would she want to come with me? Would she want to go to a motel or something?' Regina had a worried look on her face, in all honesty she didn't want Emma to go to snows apartment because she didn't want her to turn Emma against her again, not when they could finally have a chance to start over… have a chance to be more that what they were…
"Emma?" Regina started, trying to mask the worried tone in her voice, "Where do you want to go? I could take you to yours and Mary Margaret's apartment or to Granny's for a room… or… you could come home with me." Silently Regina was rooting for the later, she didn't want to leave Emma yet, not after everything that's happened, and with the curse being broken she didn't know what could happen. Emma looked at Regina, her insides telling her not to leave the woman, that something bad was going to happen, but there was another part of her screaming about Henry. Wait HENRY where is he? Is he okay? Was he with me when I got in the accident? Emma's mind was rushing, "Regina? Where is Henry? Is he okay? Please don't tell me that he was with me when I got in the accident." Regina's look softened; the blonde really did love their son. She reached across the car and grasped the blondes hand giving it a reassuring squeeze and letting it linger there for a few moments.
"Don't worry Emma, Henry is perfectly safe, he wasn't with you, he's at home." Emma sighed in relief squeezing Regina's hand back and after a few seconds they both released and Regina put it back on the steering wheel along with the other. "Well… I don't really want to go to some strange apartment and honestly I don't really want to be alone, but I want to see Henry… do you thing that it would be alright if we stopped and got him and both came over?" Emma bit her lip nervously not wanting to over step a boundary that she didn't know anything about.
Regina smiled every bit okay with that idea. "That is a very good idea Miss Swan." Regina looked over at Emma and smiled, her smile widening slightly as she saw the eye roll that came along with the name. Turning a few times they made it to the house from Emma's memory, the house that she could have sworn belonged to the person that she loved, she could see this house in her minds eyes, and when she thought of it she thought of love and adoration and family. Regina pulled into the driveway and shut the car off and they both got out.
Emma never made the connection between why Regina was getting out of the car and the house, they both walked up the sidewalk to the front door and Emma raised her hand to knock on the door but Regina caught her wrist in her hand. Confused Emma turned her head to look at the woman that was so close to her. Emma's eyebrows were creased as she wondered why Regina stopped her.
The dark haired woman lowered her arm effectively taking Emma's with it, and Regina stepped forward towards the door. Emma's heart rate sped up and time felt like it was going in slow motion, as Regina put a key into the lock and it turned smoothly letting the door fall open with a simple twist of the knob. Regina looked back at Emma worried that she wouldn't take this news well. She never let go of the blonde wrist, but instead she let it travel farther down towards Emma's hand and she grasped it in her own and pulled the stunned woman into the house.
Emma didn't know what to say, the house that she felt so connected to, felt so drawn to and felt so much love for was a house that belonged to the woman that she was with. Her heart was pounding furiously but then something in her mind clicked and she remember Regina and Henry together at the dinner, she remembered dinners at this house where Emma sat next to Henry and Regina on his other side.
Emma gasped at released the shorter woman's hand as she looked around the room, on the walls and on the table by the door there were pictures of Henry and pictures of Regina with Henry. Emma's eyes teared up as she looked back at the shorter woman who was at the moment finding her shoes a little to fascinating. Regina remembered the comment Emma made at the hospital about this house and thinking that she was involved with the person that lived there, and in a way it was true, they both had Henry, but Regina wished it was more.
Emma took a cautious step towards Regina, but the woman didn't pay her any attention not wanting to see the look on Emma's face, not wanting to see the disgusted look on her face for thinking that she was involved with a woman. Emma reached out a hand and cupped Regina's chin making her look up. There wasn't disgust on Emma's face, but only confusion and a slight amount of recognition.
"Regina… I'm not sure what you and I were before… but with everything I remember I can tell we were something… I meant what I said at the hospital about this place and I still do… whatever we were or weren't doesn't matter now, because we have a chance to make it better." Emma said with more confidence than she thought she would.
Regina's eyes teared up thanking whoever was listening for allowing this second chance. Without hesitation Emma wrapped Regina into a tight safe embrace, feeling nothing but comfort and love. There weren't any awkward moments or feeling's like this shouldn't be happening. Even though Emma lost her memory, she remembered her life with Regina or quite a bit of it, and from what she could remember she knew she loved this woman in front of her but she wasn't sure yet if they were more than this.
Emma pulled back and looked into Regina's eyes, a single tear slipped down Regina's face and Emma was quick to wipe it away with pad of her thumb, softly she cupped Regina's cheek seemingly staring into her very soul. Emma knew that she shouldn't, that she should wait until she got to re know the beautiful dark haired woman in front of her, but there was a part of her that wanted nothing more than to lean down and kiss the shorter woman, and the want to kiss the woman felt like it was coming directly from her soul, so deep down that it scared her.
Regina's eyes went from Emma's eyes to her lips and back quickly and that was what broke Emma, she could see that the woman in front of her wanted to kiss her as badly as she wanted to kiss her. Emma threw all rational thought out the window and she leaned down and ever so gently she pushed her lips against Regina's, both of their eyes slipped closed as Emma's hand dropped from Regina's face to her hips and pulled her slightly closer keeping their lips locked together softly.
Emma felt a rush within her as a few memories came back to her, all the lingering looks that she and Regina sent each other, all the heated arguments that were filled with desire and tension, all the times that Emma caught Regina looking at her when she thought she wasn't paying attention. And all of a sudden Emma didn't feel like Regina was such a stranger anymore, she remembered small things about the woman, like sitting in her office drinking cider, how her cooking was amazing and could rival the very best chef. But most of all Emma remembered fully how much she loved the woman she was now kissing.
Emma pulled back and rested her forehead against Regina's keeping her eyes closed. Seconds later Emma slowly opened her eyes as didn't Regina and they both gazed into each other's warm loving eyes, "I… I remember." Emma said softly, "I remember you and Henry; I remember our fights and small moments with Henry and sitting in your office drinking cider… All I can remember is you and Henry"
Regina broke out into a brilliant smile alight with hope and love and she was ecstatic because Emma just kissed her. For the first time in a long time Regina felt that she could be happy with someone other than Henry, it didn't matter that Emma couldn't remember most of what has happened, she would remember in time, all that mattered right now was that she had her. She had her Emma finally and Emma remembered her and Henry and their own different kind of family. The rest could be sorted out later, but right now there was just Emma and Regina and the sleeping boy upstairs in his bed that didn't know that his home life was about to change for the better.
