I'll Marry You For Love

Chapter 9:

"Excuse me, But I realized, that after 10 years, I still don't know you name, and you knew mine the first day we met." Merlin said. He didn't really ask, so when the guard just stared at him, he continued. "What's your name, Sir?"

"It's Demetri." He replied, after a light chuckle. Then he became serious, "Good Luck...Merlin" He nodded his head towards me as a sign of respect. As if he knew exactly what was happening around the castle. And that he would not be returning anytime soon.

"And to you." Merlin replied nodding back, Before turning and running up the stairs, leaving the young guard very confused as to what exactly just happened between the two of them...

"Gaius!" Arthur shouted as he burst into the room he'd been raised in. Though he didn't visit very often anymore, it still felt like home. Maybe it had something to do with Merlin always being there. Gaius was sitting at the table with a middle aged women who shared Merlin's face. Arthur knew immediately who she was, and that made his heart sink even farther.

"Prince Arthur, What is it? You look so distressed!" Gaius said standing up and walking over to the prince. Hunnith stood up as well. As Arthur just stood there, speechless as to what to tell his lover's mother and caretaker what happened, Gaius remembered his manners. "Oh Sorry, Arthur, you remember Hunnith. Hunnith you remember Prince Arthur." She bowed slightly. "She came to get Merlin. There's apparently an early harvest this year. You haven't seen him, have you?

"Merlin..." Arthur took a few ragged breaths before slowly walking over to the table and sitting down in a chair. He looked and felt like all the life had left him. He couldn't quite grasp reality. After what seemed forever he mentally shook himself and slammed his fist on the table. and covered his face with his other hand, fighting back tears."I'm so Sorry... It's all my fault..."

"What happened?" A soft voice said as a gentle hand was placed on Arthur's shoulder. Arthur couldn't bring himself to look at Hunnith as he readied his reply.

"The King has sentenced Merlin to death for Sorcery" He said after a ragged breath. He heard Hunnith gasp and redraw her hand. Gaius quickly sat down.

"Sorcery? Are you sure? There must be some kind of mistake?"" Gaius questioned. Arthur got the feeling he was trying to see how much he actually knew, and right now Arthur didn't care who knew that he knew...

"He didn't use his magic. If that's what you're asking.." Arthur replied.

"Good!" Gaius sighed, then snapped up. "Wait, you knew about Merlin's magic?!" Arthur nodded. "How long?"

"Since the day I met him..." He said with a chuckle, But it was kind of delayed and misplaced as he didn't really feel like laughing.

"So, what happened?" Hunnith spoke again.

"It's a long story...And We don't have that kind of time..." Arthur said finally snapping out of the deep sea of emotion he'd been stuck in. He sat up in his chair and regained his composure. "The short version is is that Merlin and I have been dating, secretly, since we were kids. But this summer, My father wanted me to find a woman, and you wanted to keep me away from Merlin to keep his magic secret. So We came up with a plan for me to date Lady Guinevere. Merlin would sneak over to meet me when I was in between servants, just like he use to. Only tonight, Father caught Merlin and I...Let's just say we were making out, when he barged in and accused Merlin of Witchcraft."

A silence filled the room as Arthur had finished his story. He finally gained the courage to look at the other two people in the room. Then suddenly wished he hadn't. Gaius cursed, slammed a hand against the table, got up and paced away. Hunnith had a look of shock and surprise on her face as she slowly sat down.

"You and Merlin...You've been dating for years?... But you're both just teenagers..." Hunnith spoke quietly as if trying to register what she was saying. Arthur just shrugged in reply.

"And you knew about his Magic, all these Years? Why didn't Merlin tell Me any of this!" Gaius practically yelled.

"He knew you didn't want me to know of his magic." Arthur snapped in response. "And as to us dating, you would have opposed to that too! Merlin has been the light of my life since I was 5 years old. I have looked towards every summer, just waiting for him to come back and breathe life into me again. I'd do anything for him! I'd Die for him!"

"Do you mean that?" Everyone froze for a minute, before slowly turning to the door. There stood Merlin, a little out of breath, but otherwise fine. Arthur couldn't stop himself as he practically ran over towards Merlin, and kissed him. All the worry just slipping away. He never wanted to be apart from him again. When they finally broke apart, Hunnith came out of nowhere and almost knocked Merlin over as she hugged him. Gaius slowly walked over, his face a mix between anger and relief.

"What happened, Merlin?" Gaius asked slowly, after Hunnith had let him go. Merlin looked to the floor, then back up towards Gaius with more confidence.

"After I managed to free myself from the Gaurds, I went to see the dragon for a way out of this... and he gave me one. One I don't want to do...But I have to." Merlin said this last part looking straight at Arthur. Arthur felt dread and fear as to what the next words would be. "He gave me a spell to make everyone in Camelot forget I ever came here...Even you two..."

"Wha- What?!" Arthur couldn't seem to understand the words Merlin just spoke. What was Merlin saying? Arthur had just gotten him back from danger and now Merlin want to make everyone forget him...Including Arthur. Arthur braced himself on the nearest object as he suddenly had no strength left to stand.

"I don't want to!" Merlin exclaimed. "But..I have to...It's the only way to Make sure that We won't be separated for good or that you''l have to give up the throne for me."

"I've already told you that I'd Gladly give up the throne to be with you!" Arthur half-shouted in reply.

"No, I can't let you do that." Merlin said Quietly. "You won't remember this, so I'll tell you. You have a destiny here in Camelot. And I...I'm a part of that destiny. I can't let you leave with me, because then you you wouldn't be here for your country. So I must go, and you must forget...for now." Merlin was staring at the floor at this point.

"But, what about us..." The blond asked

"Our destinies are intertwined." The raven haired responded. "You have loved me since the day we met. and I will return someday. I'm sure that you'll love just as much then as you do now. If not More...Besides, when I cast the spell, you won't remember me, or anything we've done together. But I'll remember...For the both of us. And I Promise, I will come back and Marry you someday..." He pulled Arthur into a tight embrace. Although time seemed to stop and the hug lasted forever, only a few seconds had passed before Merlin released him. For a minute they just stared at each other as if there was nothing else in the world.

"Ahem." Gaius broke the moment between the two. "It won't be long before the come here asking if I've seen anything. So, Merlin here's your things. You know all the secret passages, so get your mother out of the city safely."

"I will." Merlin replied. "And Gaius...Thanks for everything you've done for me." He pulled Gaius into a hug.

"It was my Pleasure, Merlin." The Old Man said into the boy shoulder. When Merlin finally let him go, Hunnith almost knocked Gaius over with a hug of her own. "Don't Worry Hunnith. Even if I don't remember Merlin, I'll remember you. And you'll always have a place here if you need it."

"Thank you Gaius. I'll never forget your kindness." She replied as she let go of him. She wiped away her tears and turned to her son who was in another embrace with the Prince. "Come Merlin, We have to go now."

The two shared a quick kiss before Merlin and his mother walked out the door. Arthur felt completely numb. He barely heard the words Gaius spoke to comfort him. He slowly walked to the window and looked out. He could see the point where Merlin always entered and left town form here. He knew Merlin would not be able to see him, but he hoped he would feel him here. It wasn't long before two specs had reached the city limits, and he knew it was them. He could almost feel Merlin looking at him. Then he saw a ripple start to spread across the buildings towards him. There was a knock at the door, and Arthur turned to toward the door, already knowing who it would be. Just as Gaius opened the door, the wave of Magic hit Arthur and everyone else in the room.

"Arthur, there you are!" The king said as her entered the room, followed by two guards. "You're late! Your evening lessons were supposed to start an hour ago!"

"Right, sorry father. I must have forgotten." Arthur replied, Shaking his head slightly. He felt he'd forgotten something more important than lessons. But try as he might, he couldn't remember what it was...or was it WHO it was...He straightened himself up and turned to Gaius. "Thank you for lending me your time, Gaius. I'm sure it was worth it." Without waiting for a response, He and his father walked out the door.

"It was no problem at all. Good night, Your Highness, Your Majesty" Gaius bowed to their backs. Currently confused as to why the prince had been in his quarters at all. Maybe it had been about Lady Guinevere. But that didn't seem right...Maybe he was just getting old.

Merlin and his Mother walked in silence through the ever darkening forest. Normally they would have waited until morning to leave, but due to the circumstance they didn't want to risk another night in Camelot. When it became too dark to continue, they made camp for the night. It wasn't until the next morning that Hunnith finally broke the silence.

"You're really in love with him aren't you?" It was more a statement than a question.

"Are you mad?" The boy seemed more like a small child than a teenager.

"Only that you never told me." Hunnith replied. "I knew you two were close, and that your destinies were connected. But I guess I didn't realized just how much."

"Mom...I don't know what to do..." Merlin said after some time had passed. "I know that I had to cast that spell, but...Part of me wishes that I found another way. One where Arthur didn't forget about me. Or Gaius..."

"I know he was a great mentor to you. He was to your Father, Balinor, as well." She half whispered the second part. "He was also a great friend to me when I was younger and living in Camelot."

"You never told me you lived there." He said, shocked.

"That's how I met your father. We moved to our village when the king declared magic to be outlawed" She smiled, but it was kind of a sad smile. "As for what to do now...All I can tell you is to live your life until fate brings you two back together."

"Thanks Mom..." Merlind replied. They finished the rest of the trip in silence...

A/N: Ah Finally done. Will Demetri be in the story in the future? Who knows, Maybe, I kind of like him but don't know where to put him. Also What did you think of Arthur's POV. And If I should go to first person instead of third. I'm confusing myself every time I write it. You guys tell me. I want to try it out, but I'm afraid it'll mess with the pace of the story.
