Chapter Ten: Return to Republic City

Daisuke, Korra, Kya, Bumi, Tenzin who was carrying Jinora's body were now making their way back towards the Air temple from the ancient airbender meditation circle, Tenzin looked down at his daughters spiritless body in sadness.

"I should have not let Jinora into the spirit world by herself, I'm such an idiot," Tenzin said as the group neared the steps that led up to the temple.

"Tenzin it wasn't your fault, nobody could have known Unalaq would have been waiting for them," Kya tried to comfort her younger brother but she had no luck.

Daisuke sighed and turned to Tenzin with fire in her eyes "Tenzin I promise you, I'll bring her back to you, after I kill Unalaq," Daisuke promised the master airbender who nodded his head sadly to her.

"Hey, I'll help too, Unalaq is gonna pay for what he's done," Korra voiced up with a smile in agreement with her sister who nodded back to her, they soon arrived at the top of the stairs where they saw Ikki speeding around on an air scooter, Meelo was playing around with a winged lemur and Pema was sitting down on a chair relaxing when Meelo noticed the group near them.

"Hey dads back," Meelo said drawing Ikki and Pema's attention, Pema smiled and stood up and walked over to the group but frowned when she couldn't see Jinora anywhere.

"Where's Jinora?" She asked curiously before she gasped when Tenzin lifted up Jinora's body "No," she gasped running over to Tenzin who handed his daughters body over to his wife "What happened?" She asked him in shock.

"Her spirit is trapped in the spirit world, but she'll be fine I'm sure of it," Tenzin said sadly as Pema hugged her daughters body.

"Pema, I'm so sorry, we tried but Unalaq tricked us, he had a dark spirit take her away before we could get to her," Korra said sadly apologising to Pema who looked at her and Daisuke.

"It's alright you two, you tried your best," Pema said with a sad smile to the two of them.

Tenzin brushed the back of his hand on Jinora's cheek "Don't worry honey, I'll not rest until I know she's safe," Tenzin said to his wife as Daisuke frowned and punched her fist into her hand with a growl of frustration making everyone look at her.

"Unalaq and Vaatu, they're going to pay I guarantee that!" She growled as the others nodded their heads in agreement.

"But, the only way back into the spirit world where we will still be able to bend is through the only open spirit portal, and that's in the South guarded by thousands of northern water tribe soldiers," Korra told the group matter of factly.

"Then what do you suppose we do?" Daisuke asked her sister slightly agitated.

"We need to head towards Republic City, we need to talk to the president," Tenzin said.

"Forget it, that idiot is more concerned about his image then helping people," Daisuke snapped glaring at Tenzin who frowned slightly.

"Dai, we've got no choice, we have to try at least," Korra said to her sister who looked at her before she sighed and waved her arms in defeat.

"Okay I'm with ya sis, let's save the world," Daisuke said as Korra nodded and smiled as everyone then climbed aboard Oogi and set off towards Republic City where they hoped to convince the president to lend support to them. By the time that they arrived back in the city the sun had set and it was now nighttime the lights of the city shining brightly, it was then they noticed the Probending arena had it's lights shining the brightest and it also had searchlights around it.

"Hey Tenzin take us down there," Korra told the master air nomad who nodded his head as Oogi flew down towards the arena and landed just outside the arena, they then all ran inside to see president Raiko, Bolin, Cheif Beifong, Asami and several others all gathered around the arena talking. "President Raiko!" Korra called running up to him drawing everyone's attention to her.

"Avatar Korra, what's wrong?" The president asked her confused as Daisuke walked up to her sisters side.

"Sir, I've know we've asked you for help before but things have changed, Unalaq doesn't want to conquer the South anymore, he wants to destroy the entire world," Daisuke said shocking everyone who was listening.

"Unalaq wants to destroy the world? He really does have a powerful doomsday device?" Bolin asked in surprise walking up to them as Daisuke and Korra nodded their heads.

"Yeah he's planning on releasing a dark spirit on harmonic convergence, and it's only days away," Korra explained

"If he succeeds the world as we know it is over, sir we need your help," Daisuke pleaded with Raiko.

"I am sorry, avatar Korra but my answer us still no," he said sadly as Tenzin got angry at his response,

"There are lives on the line! My daughters included! Raiko you must reconsider your decision!" He exclaimed to the president.

"I know lives are at stake here, and that is exactly why my troops are staying here, if what you say is true then I have to defend my people," Raiko informed him sadly.

"Sir we need your help, you love helping people don't you?" Bolin asked him trying to convince him.

"Son, I appreciate you saving my life, and I'm a fan of your work, but again my answer is still no," Raiko said apologetically.

"Never should've saved that guy," Bolin said as Raiko walked away from them, it was then that Daisuke saw Varrick trying to sneak away out of the arena she growled as she stormed towards him as everyone watched her and Varrick noticed her and he tried to bolt but as he ran he tripped over an extended leg and looked up to see Mako with a smirk on his face and Varrick started to sweat as Daisuke caught up to him.

"Going somewhere?" Mako asked him.

"Who me? No, not at all," Varrick said now sweating profusely as Daisuke grabbed him by the collar.

"Where do you think you're going you little weasel?!" Daisuke growled as everyone walked over to them, Mako looked over at Bolin with a smile.

"So how was the premiere?" He asked his brother.

"Great apart from the fact Varrick hired gangsters to kidnap the president," Bolin said.

"Wait? He did what?!" Korra, Tenzin and Daisuke shouted as they glared at Varrick who Daisuke still had in her grasp.

"I knew it," Mako said glaring at Varrick who was sweating nervously "Nice job Bo," he congratulated his brother with a smile.

"Good work Mako, you'll make a great detective seeing as we've got two openings," Lin said glancing at the two detectives who were in charge of security, Korra smiled as she hugged Mako tightly who's eyes widened slightly as did Asami's and Bolin's.

"Mako I've missed you so much," Korra said happily.

"Oh I forgot to mention Korra's back," Bolin said nervously.

"Hey Korra, um I've missed you too, but aren't you mad at me?" He asked her confused making Korra raise an eyebrow at him.

"Why would I be mad, did we have a fight or something?" She asked him confused.

"Uh we kinda did, but hey it doesn't matter now," Mako said waving it off.

"Korra, you can talk with Mako later, right now we need to find a way to deal with Unalaq," Tenzin reminded her who nodded her head.

"I think I know who to ask," Daisuke said with a grin as she glared at Varrick who gulped before he smirked slightly.

"Now come on, you all still can't be mad about what's happened, I've done some good too, Korra who warned you about Unalaq? I did, Bolin who got you into movers? I did, Asami who saved your company? I did Mako who got you thrown in jail? I did, oh wait that's a bad thing ain't it," Varrick said as Asami frowned.

"You stole everything from my company, then you tried to kidnap the president, those were despicable," Asami told him.

"I did no harm, I just needed those done to start a war, well a bigger one," Varrick said,

"Enough talk, where's the stuff you swiped from Asami and her company?" Bolin asked him.

"The future industries stuff? Oh it's on my battleship," Varrick said like it was the most simplest thing in the world.

"You've got a battleship?" Korra asked him.

"Of course, I bought the first ever made, I named her the Zhu Li," Varrick told them.

"You named a battleship after your assistant?" Mako asked him with a raised eyebrow.

"Yup, they're both cold heartless war machines," Varrick said.

"It's not the fleet we need, but it's better then nothing," Korra said with a shrug of her shoulders as Bolin whooped in joy.

"Alright, team Avatar is back!" Bolin said with a fist pump as Daisuke let Varrick go before she punched him hard in the face knocking him out.

"That was oh so satisfying," Daisuke said with a giggle and grin as the others had slack jaws at what she just did as Varrick had mini Zhu Li's circling his head.

"Come on you guys, we need to save Jinora," Mako said as everyone nodded and headed towards the harbour as Lin and two metalbending police officers carried the unconscious Varrick away towards an waiting police Satomobile.

"I just hope Dad is alright," Korra said worried for her father.

"I'm sure he will be fine," Mako reassured her. However meanwhile back at the Southern water tribe Tonraq and the rebels were battling Unalaq and his soldiers, Tonraq and a few of the rebels were battling Unalaq and several water tribe soldiers.

"Get the men to fall back!" Tonraq ordered to one of the rebels.

"What, but what about you?" A rebel asked him as Tonraq glared at Unalaq.

"Unalaq is mine," Tonraq told him, the rebel nodded and he signalled the rebels to retreat while Tonraq and his brother faced off, Tonraq bent water at Unalaq who avoided the attacks or redirected them towards Tonraq, Desna and Eska then joined the battle but were stopped by Unalaq.

"Stop you two, he's mine," Unalaq told his two children who nodded and stayed back as Unalaq smirked at his brother, "I am too powerful for you brother," he told Tonraq who growled.

"You're not my brother, you betrayed me and got me banished!" Tonraq roared.

"Yes I did, and once I defeat you your daughters are next," Unalaq smirked as Tonraq attacked him again with a barrage of water.

"You will not harm my daughters!" Tonraq roared at his brother before sending massive waves of water towards Unalaq who dodged and sent a burst of water and hit Tonraq hard knocking him backwards onto the ground, Tonraq got to his knees before he saw Unalaq kick him in the face knocking him out.

"Now for the Avatar and the Child of Miracles," Unalaq said as toe soldiers carried Tonraq away.
