This one is really short, but it has some stuff to set up future events. Also, I already have the next chapter written, so once I get a couple reviews I'll post the next one. I hope you like it, despite how short it is.
Thanks for reviewing:
HunterOfArtemis1151: Hehe, I'm glad you're excited!

Naiko20: I'm sorry it took so long for an update. Hope you like it!
bluepenquin1998: Spidey will be in it more in the future too.
Chapter 10
Asked and Assigned
In the end, Bucky had given in. She felt bad. Pepper had done all that work. She didn't want it to go to waste. So, Bucky ended up borrowing some clothes to sleep in that night and to wear in the morning. The bag she had also had her school stuff, so she could go straight there after she got reading in the morning.
The room that she had been given looked a lot like her place. It was filled with neutral colors, mixed in with a couple warm reds and some cool deep blues. The wooden furniture was dark. The electronics were brand new. It was really nice. There were large book cases that were not filled. Neither was the closet. There was a bathroom built on that was very nice.
In the morning, when Bucky had finished getting ready with a couple hours to spare before she had to go to school, were spent in the living room. There were several rooms that connected to the living room and the adjoined kitchen and dining room.
It seemed that Bucky hadn't been the only one to stay there that night. Captain Steve Rogers was there, along with Natasha and Barton. She already knew Banner was staying there and as of last night, so were the Asgardians. Pepper and Tony stayed the night, but they didn't live there all the time. Most of the time they stayed in Malibu, where Tony's house was.
Pepper was the first person who was completely up and ready for the day though. Bucky had been in the kitchen helping her get breakfast for everybody ready – even more because it was Bucky, Steve and the Asgardians. Bucky didn't do the cooking, just get plates and poured drinks. She couldn't really cook anyways.
"So, I guess you guys had a full house last night, huh?" Bucky asked, making small talk.
"Yeah," she replied. "It was nice."
Steve was in the living room on the couch watching whatever Natasha and Barton, who were sitting on a love seat, were watching. Banner was sitting down on the same couch, reading a book. The Asgardians were looking around the room trying to figure out how all of the technology worked. Tony was nowhere to be seen, though she wasn't surprised. He was probably still asleep.
"Banner stays here all the time, right?" Bucky asked.
"Yes," Pepper said. "We're very happy to have him."
"That's good," Bucky said. "It's good for him to be around people. You know, people who aren't afraid of him."
"I agree," Pepper said. "We were actually going to ask all of you to stay here."
"What?" Bucky asked. She turned around and stood up straighter. She couldn't really believe what was going on.
"We were going to ask you guys if you wanted to come live here," Pepper said. "We were going to do it last night, but you got called away. We already talked to the others about it."
"What did they say?" the younger blonde asked.
"Banner already lives here. Natasha and Barton are considering, but there is no promise there because of their line of work. Steve said he's stay for a while, but he's just gotten a place in DC. He said that he'll spend some time here when he can."
"Despite being asleep and alone for the last seventy years, I can't blame him for wanting to be alone," Bucky said. "He probably wants to get used to things on his own instead of everybody trying to help. He's not a defenseless child. He's a grown man."
Bucky looked over to the living room to see where Steve was sitting on the couch. He seemed to be trying to pay attention, but Bucky could tell he was getting distracted. His mind was elsewhere.
"I can't help but try and help him though," Pepper said. "I feel bad. He didn't deserve this."
"No, he didn't," Bucky said. "But I know how he feels, in a way."
"What do you mean?" Pepper asked.
"He's in a place that's completely new to him," Bucky started to explain. "He's been thrown into a world that he doesn't know or completely understand. He doesn't know anybody. He doesn't know how exactly everything works."
She could just remember the first day of going to school. It had been so overwhelming. The girl could take getting shot at and fighting and thinking under pressure, but being surrounded by a bunch of people her own age in a place where she had no idea how to act; like a normal person her age, made her feel completely out of her element. Still, she wasn't completely comfortable in regular society, but she had gotten a lot better.
"Bucky?" Pepper asked, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Are you okay?"
The girl jumped at the touch. It took her a moment to realize what Pepper had asked her. "Uh, yeah, I'm okay."
"So, what do you think?" Pepper asked.
"About what?" Bucky asked. "Moving in?"
"We'd love to have you here," she insisted
"I don't know, Pepper," Bucky said. "I mean, I like my space."
"You've have that room you'd stayed in last night. It's big enough for a small living room to fit along with the bedroom," Pepper tried to convince her. "You'd be fr-"
The woman was interrupted by the sound of the elevator dinging. Fury stepped out and walked into the room, everybody staring at him curiously and with slight distain. And, by the look on Pepper's face, she had not called him there. He had showed up on his own accord, unless Tony had called him there, but Bucky assumed he was asleep. Or she did until she saw him quickly walk in, in what appeared to be pajamas.
"What are you doing here? JARVIS, why was he let in?" Tony demanded from the AI.
"He has overridden the system, sir," JARVIS answered.
"Why are you here, Director?" Bucky asked. She wasn't really happy to see him – she never saw – but the distraction was welcome. She'd rather not talk about what she had been with Pepper just because she couldn't figure out a straight answer to give.
"As you know, last night Bucky intervened in Cerberus and her brother's activities."
"With Spider-Man," Bucky added. She was going to make sure he got credit where credit was due.
Fury ignored her. "There was also something else that happened," he said. "When the device went off a young boy appeared from it. His whereabouts are currently unknown. We want to find him."
"And you expect us to find him, don't you?" Banner asked.
"We don't expect anything," Fury said. "I'm asking you to help find this young boy and get him back home, where he belongs."
"Why is everybody playing the guilt card lately?" Bucky asked to nobody in particular.
"Bucky," Fury said, turning to the girl. "You, along with Agents Romanoff and Barton are instructed to search and report whatever you find. If you find the boy, you turn him over to us. Is that understood?"
No asking of a favor from me? Man, I feel used, Bucky thought. Well, he is signing my paychecks so I guess he has the right. "Yes sir," Bucky answered.
"Good," he replied, staring at the girl intensely. He knew she didn't like that order. That kid had to be scared. He didn't need to be taken in by the government and interrogated. He needed a place where he could feel safe. He wouldn't get that if SHIELD took him in. "Shouldn't you be heading off to school?"
Bucky, without taking her eyes off of Fury, grabbed her bag from the counter. "Thanks for letting me stay, Pepper."
"Anytime," she replied.
"Oh, Sunshine!" Tony said. He reached into his pocket and tossed the content at her. The girl caught it, finding that it was a new phone. "That's to replace the old one. All the contacts have been transferred over."
"Thanks, Tony," Bucky said. "I'll see you guys around."
As she road the elevator down, Bucky couldn't help but think about the things that transpired the previous night and the orders she had just received. I don't like this. I don't like this one bit. A sigh escaped her lips. What am I going to do here, Phil? I know you'd want me to follow orders, but also do what I believe is right. But what if those two things don't coincide with one another?
Also, I'm curious to know if you guys would be interested in me writing another Bucky-ish story. One that she's older, but in the same time period, same Cerberus situations (kind of) where she's in the whole Movie-verse. Let me know what you guys think. If you want more information on it, please ask. I'm willing to answer jsut about anything you throw my way.
