Chapter 10
The next day, Carrie was ready to see her mother. Wearing a long, green dress, she worried about what mom would think of Loki. She had already warned Carrie about boys before she went to the prom. What would she say now that her daughter was engaged?
The door opened. She expected to see Loki, but instead there stood Chris Hargenson.
"Loki sent me to see if you were ready," said Chris.
Carrie could see that Chris was shaking. Loki must have said something to her.
"So, it's true, then? You're his wife."
"Not yet, I'm not. But yes, I am going to marry him."
"So , what? You're actually going through with this and marrying this freak?" Chris asked.
Carrie stood up. Chris could insult her all she wanted, but she could not insult Loki. Carrie used her powers to throw Chris up against the wall. She put her back down.
"Don't talk about Loki like that," Carrie insisted.
"Well, where is this coming from? What happened to the scared Carrie from school?" Chris was surprised.
"I've changed. Loki has given me something: A sense of courage." Carrie walked out of the room.
"Carrie, wait!" Chris called after her.
Carrie turned around to face her.
"What?!"
"Nothing," said Chris.
Loki approached them.
"My Lord, she's ready... just as you wanted."
"As I see. You may go," said Loki.
Without another word, Chris ran out of the room.
Loki turned to Carrie, "Ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm ready," Carrie said.
"Okay, then," Loki said, as he took hold of her. They headed out to the Byfrost.
Next thing Carrie knew, they were back on earth, in front of her house. Carrie remembered she had locked her mom in the closet before she went to the prom. She opened the front door with her powers. Inside, she could see the closet door was split down the middle. Her mom must have clawed her way out.
"What is it?" said Loki.
"I think she clawed her way out of the closet. I'll find her. You stay hidden unless I need you," Carrie told him.
"I will be right here," said Loki, disappearing into the shadows.
Carrie smiled. She felt good knowing he was there. She made her way up the stairs and went to her room. Looking at her room, she felt weird that she would never be living here again. She turned to walk away. To her surprise, her mother was standing in the doorway.
"Where have you been? I haven't seen you since last night," said Margaret White. She looked at Carrie's dress, "That wasn't the dress you were wearing when you left the house."
"I know, Mama. I'm getting ready to explain it to you," Carrie said.
"No. I was right about those kids. They hurt my little girl," said Margaret.
"Yes, they did. But someone helped me," said Carrie.
Loki came out of the shadows.
"It's true, Miss White. I think you should listen to your daughter. She has some good news to tell you," Loki said.
"Mom, this is Loki. He is the one who saved my life at the prom. I have fallen in love with him, "Carrie told her mom. Carrie continued, "He asked me to marry him and I accepted."
"No, no, no, no, NO! Where did I go wrong raising you?" Margaret began scratching at her own arm.
Loki took hold of her, "How dare you do that in front of your daughter? Don't you think she has suffered enough?"
Loki took Margaret's arm and healed it. He let her go.
"So I ask you, please let me marry your daughter. I will take good care of her, and I will bring her back to see you," Loki pleaded.
Margaret took a moment, and turned to Carrie, "So I take it, just like the prom, you have made up your mind?"
"Yes, Mama. I love him and I trust him," said Carrie. "We came here to get your blessing."
"I see," Margaret turned to Loki, "So, you say you will take care of my little girl?"
"I give you my word, Miss White."
"Very well. I give you my blessing," Margaret said.
Carrie smiled at Loki and walked over to hug her mom.
"Thank you, Mama," said Carrie.
