A/N: I know. I am so sorry, I've been feeling bad about this but here it is. Personally I don't think this is a good chapter but I've been informed otherwise, I'll let you gather your own opinions anyway. Thank you for sticking with me all this time!
Kurt had gone over to Brad's house on Tuesday like they'd arranged, he'd had to call him on Monday to find out his address but it was pretty easy to find the place once he knew where he was looking. Brad had a big house and lived alone, it definitely looked like a TV star's house and Kurt wondered if he'd ever have a house that looked as grand as this. Being on Sing! Hadn't been Brad's first job, he'd done various theatre and production work when he was younger and had even been an extra in a number of sitcoms. He was way more experienced than Kurt and it showed, Kurt felt like every time he did a scene with him he learnt something new; a different way of looking at a line or just a general thing he'd made a mental note of, so Kurt was happy that his game was being raised by working with him.
Brad didn't take long to get to the door so Kurt assumed he'd already been waiting for him, he was a couple of minutes late after all. He let him in with a quick hug which and showed him through to his garage after going through the lounge, on the way through Kurt noticed there were portraits of him on the walls as well as many individual trophies scattered around the room, the bookshelf was filled with books and plays, possibly even some scripts and along one wall there was a photo of Brad in what looked like every role he'd ever had, right from his school productions. Kurt didn't have time to take it all in before he was in the garage. It was much less decorated in comparison and looked more like a dance studio with a small area full of furniture. He sat down on the sofa and flicked through to one of their bigger scenes, this was the one where they finally ended up together after avoiding the topic for ages.
Tyler and Jay had just been working on a duet for their glee club and were both talking about what a good number it was, then the atmosphere changes between them as always when this kind of thing happens on a TV show and then they have a kiss. Kurt wondered what the viewers reaction to this would be, sure it was way down the lines in terms of episodes so the viewers would have ages to get used to the characters and whether they'd like them together or not but Kurt didn't even know what the response would be so far.
Blaine had convinced him not to look at any reviews until he was ready and didn't have anything big coming up, the last thing he needed was one nasty review from a jealous wannabe to put him off his best acting. SO Kurt had decided to wait until after the premier and see if the world had grown to his character. He didn't know what to think about reactions, in the past new characters hadn't been all too welcome but that was only when they were carbon copies of characters that already existed, there'd never been a character like Tyler on the show before and Kurt wondered if that would make any difference.
He came back round to the present when he saw Brad looking at him expectantly,
"I'm sorry I drifted off there, what are we talking about?" He asked, trying to get his head back in gear.
"I just wanted to know where you think we should both start this scene, when they finish the song it says you're on the other side of the room having just leant back on the dresser, but I wanted to know where you wanna take it from there?" He explained, Kurt nodded contemplatively. He tried to get into Tyler's mind and see what he would do, thinking about what he'd seen so far Tyler was more the type to approach things and get jitters at the last minute resulting in it never happening.
"I think Tyler would work himself up and walk over to where Jay's sat at the end of the bed." He said thoughtfully " But then he'd probably get scared and shift over a bit so Jay has to initiate things." Kurt told him and brad nodded,
"Then Jay could move in closer before they start dialogue that way they're set up for the scene." He smiled "I like that, we should go with it!" He enthused and Kurt smiled, glad he took his idea on board, they ran through the end of their song and slipped in directions about where they were going to stand etc... into their lines. After this they managed to run through it a few more times and make good head way on one of their other scenes before Kurt had to get going to see Blaine after his club.
"I should get going really." Kurt announced, he stood up and straightened his outfit, smoothing down the wrinkles that had formed from sitting down for so long.
"We made great progress today, I'm really glad we could do this." Brad said, leading Kurt back through the lounge and to the door and leaning against the wall as Kurt gathered up the various things he'd left there when they'd arrived.
"So am I, I think it'll really pay off when it comes to filming. We'll probably be able to fit the other scenes in with our rehearsal slots, they're not as big as these two." Kurt explained and Brad nodded.
"Are you sure you can't stay just a bit longer and we could finish the scene?" He asked, the look in his could be described as... desperate? Kurt wondered, surely not, it's not like the scene would take longer than rehearsal times anyway.
"As much as I'd like to get it finished I really can't, Blaine will get out in ten minutes or so and I said I'd give him a lift." Kurt shrugged his bag onto his shoulder and looked apologetically back around at Brad, he was a little startled to see how intensely Brad was looking back at him, his eyes were drilling into his own and he could swear he saw his jaw clenching down but it could just be him, his shoulders were hunched forward and his arms were crossed with his fingers digging just a bit too hard into his arms. Kurt suddenly found himself feeling quite frightened, this was like a whole new side to Brad that he hadn't been before, the Brad he'd become accustomed to was all smiles and laughs and serious acting, not this guy.
"I'll Uhm, I'll just be going." Kurt faltered and made for the door handle, as he was just opening it a hand pushed against it, forcing it closed again. Kurt started and looked up at Brad who had now leant against the door.
"I meant it, what I said earlier, I'm really glad we could do this." He finished with an obviously fake smile and stalked off, leaving Kurt to let himself out. Not hesitating, Kurt left the house and made his way back down to his car. Once inside he collected himself as he looked out of the windscreen, he couldn't tell if Brad was acting weird or whether this was just how he was when not in the public eye, either way it had been odd to say the least. He started his engine and shook his head a little as though that would clear the thoughts from his mind, regardless to say it didn't, he was thinking about it for most of the drive to Dalton.
When he pulled into the parking lot, Kurt looked around until he could see Blaine, he was stood to one side, talking to Trent about something and obviously getting very into his discussion. Feeling only very slightly guilty for breaking up the discussion, Kurt pulled up right next to them and unlocked the doors. Blaine made his excuses to Trent and hopped into the car, chucking his bag onto the back seat.
"hey how was it?" Kurt asked, pulling back onto the main road and turning down the radio so he could hear Blaine better.
"It was great, obviously it would have been better if you were there." He said and Kurt smiled to himself, he didn't need to make apologies, Blaine had already made it clear that he understood and wanted Kurt to go to his rehearsal with Brad.
"How did it go with Brad by the way, did you get much done?" he asked, wondering just how much they could get done in the short time they were together.
"Lots actually considering, we got the big getting together scene polished off and nearly finished one of our other scenes." Kurt told him, he was pleased with the progress they'd made today even if things had gotten a little weird towards the end. "I think the rest we can do in the time we're given rather than at his house." Kurt said, his hands gripping the steering wheel slightly tighter as he thought about it.
On reflection Kurt mused that he could be over thinking it, after all Brad hadn't actually said anything to give him any real reason for concern but the strange behaviour all of a sudden was making things weird, it was the last thing Kurt needed; he had to act like he was attracted to this guy on screen which would be a lot harder if he was weirded out by him in person. Taking a deep breath Kurt decided he would let the situation pan out, he didn't tell Blaine about what had happened when he was leaving because after all, his retelling would probably make it seem weirder and he didn't want them both worrying about nothing.
"hey, you okay?" Blaine asked, obviously noticing something was up.
"I'm- yeah I'm fine." Kurt said, trying to focus on here and now. "Do you have much work to do tonight because I've got plenty." Kurt asked him, they'd arranged for this to be a homework night since they'd have to do it at some point but Kurt had unknowingly let his homework pile up to extremes.
"I just have the usual, why d'you need a hand with yours?" He offered, Kurt nodded but felt bad; Blaine was always helping him out with his homework these days, it was like he was actually doing some of it sometimes.
"I think I'm just a bit too far behind." He commented and Blaine nodded, he'd been there a few times before, what worried Blaine though, was how often Kurt was getting himself into this situation.
"Kurt, maybe you should consider dropping some of your advanced classes? It'd free up a lot more of your time so you wouldn't have days like this." He suggested, Kurt didn't actually make much of a reply other than a small hum as he thought about it. He remembered back to his meeting with Principle Walker, they'd put him on trial to see if he could cope and that he could drop his advanced classes but that really was a last resort for Kurt. He decided to wait and see if he could pull through again.
When they got to Blaine's house it was completely quiet with both Bryan and David at work so the two of them made their way straight up to Blaine's room. Blaine made the suggestion that they get out everything Kurt needs to do and see which pieces are in sooner, upon doing this it soon became clear that Kurt had a long week ahead of him.
"D'you think I could get an extension on some of these pieces?" Kurt pondered aloud, "It's not like I've ever handed in anything of theirs late before so maybe they'd be flexible?" He said, Blaine smiled at him apologetically.
"I've never seen them give anyone extensions so you'd have to work a miracle for that one. Okay, this pile's everything in for tomorrow so assuming you get that all done tonight we can try and work through some of this other stuff during lunch and afterschool tomorrow?" He offered, Kurt sighed, he hated doing work at school but if it meant he wouldn't get behind he'd grit his teeth and do it.
Kurt got started on his pile straight away with Blaine finishing if the last of his so that he could help, they were both working so quietly they could hear the front door click shut as David arrived him, Blaine cleared his books to the side and got up to go and meet him, telling Kurt he'd be back in a second.
"Hey Blaine, is Kurt over?" he asked, he always did nowadays since they were either both at this house or over at Kurt's.
"Yeah, we're both upstairs doing homework right now, he's a bit overloaded at the moment though so we're trying to get it all done." Blaine explained and David frowned.
"This isn't because of him being on sing is it? Because I don't think Burt would be happy if he found out Kurt was struggling." He told him, he knew how hard Bryan was working to ensure Kurt had enough time for schoolwork so it didn't sound good that it had piled up.
"It was probably a factor but everyone gets behind on work at some point, if he can get on top of it again it'll be fine." Blaine reassured him, not sure if he was trying to reassure himself too.
"If you say so, just don't let him struggle in silence with it okay?" He asked, Blaine nodded.
"I'll keep you updated." He started to walk away but turned round. "Do you think I should tell Burt? I did promise him I'd tell him if Kurt was struggling." He reasoned.
"Why don't you help Kurt get back on track now and then once he is you could let Burt know that he was struggling but he's fine now?" He suggested, knowing that Burt might make the situation worse "Okay, thanks dad." Blaine gave him a quick hug before running back upstairs to help Kurt.
When he walked back in there were several screwed up sheets of surrounding a very tire frustrated looking Kurt, the piece of paper he was working on was already furiously crumpled yet only had a couple of paragraphs written on it.
"Hey, Kurt, what are you doing?" Blaine rushed over to him and took the offending paper from his grip before he could cause any further damage to it.
"It's not working Blaine, I can't do and it's due in tomorrow so I don't have time to ask anyone about it." He moaned on the verge of tears, his hair was now rumpled and knotty from where he'd been tugging at it in his stress and his tie was discarded on the floor next to him.
"Hey, hey look at me." Blaine said firmly, Kurt looked up at him and had to bite his to stop him breaking down, Blaine held his hands and waited for Kurt to calm down a bit. "Why don't you just do something else for now and come back to it later, worrying about it isn't going to help you get it done." Blaine explained, he dug around it Kurt's pile, which he noted had decreased significantly since they started, and found a short piece of maths that Kurt had to finish off. "Why don't we work through these?" He asked and Kurt nodded.
By the time Kurt left that night he still had a considerable amount of work to do but none of it was in for the next day so they decided they could both get it done at school, Kurt had dragged out going home for as long as possible with talking to Blaine about everything what was going on in his life, but eventually he'd had to give in and go.
Kurt's breaking point came the next day when he got his report card, he'd expected everything on their to be the same as usual, after all he hadn't been doing too bad with tests and assessments. He got a shock when he flipped it over and found out that most of his subjects had gone down a grade and some even two meaning he was no longer passing, he tried to keep calm, to evaluate the situation without freaking out but he couldn't and ended up bolting from the classroom. He could hear his teacher's voice calling for him to come back but he couldn't he didn't want to be here anymore, it wasn't just a case of a few down grades, this could seriously affect his chances of getting a good college and having a good career.
There was absolutely no way Kurt could show this report card to Burt, it would make him think Kurt wasn't coping and he'd tell Kurt to cut down on how much he was on the show. This thought had Kurt thinking, he'd spent so much time worrying about whether people would think he was coping he failed to keep an eye on whether he was or not. Thinking back to the past few weeks he recounted all the times that he'd had to pull all-nighters or get Blaine to help him just so he could get things in on time.
Then there were the times he hadn't gotten things in on time, teachers had come spectacularly close to putting him in detention for handing things in and sometimes it was too close for comfort. Kurt weighed up his options, as much as he wanted to continue having as much input in sing as he had been, he also wanted to get his grades back up, the promise principle walker had made at the start of all of this hung over him like a massive cloud. He knew it was irrational, dropping a few of his advanced classes wasn't the end of the world given the fact that he was taking more of them than the average student but he'd worked his butt off to get into those classes and he couldn't bear the thought of throwing it all away again.
He thought about sing, sure it was his break but it didn't necessarily determine his future, if sing ended and he didn't get any work it would be tough to get back into the industry, plus if he didn't get good grades and a college degree there'd be no chance of him making it big straight away.
He shook his head as though to clear it a bit as he went and sat in the senior commons, tears were brimming in his eyes and he just wanted to curl into a ball and disappear. He realised he couldn't stay here for the rest of the day; if he did he'd have to sit through lessons with teachers who'd only just passed him on their subjects. Instead he walked out to his car and sat in there, he didn't start it up or move for a good five minutes as he just stared out the windshield. When he did move he was driving almost recklessly, not looking out as much as he usually would, he didn't care though, he just wanted to be home and tucked away where nobody would bother him.
He had no such luck; as soon as he got home he grabbed his bag from the passenger seat and fled into the house. Kurt barged through the door and slammed it shut, only just managing to hold it all together, he wanted to make a quick dash to his bedroom and bury himself under his covers but on passing the kitchen he was seen by Burt and Carole.
"Hey Kurt, what're you doing home so early, it's not a filming day is it?" He asked, but then saw Kurt's face and knew something was up. "Hey bud, what's wrong?" He asked his tone more gentle now. He walked over and put his arm around Kurt's shoulders to bring him into a hug; Kurt rested his chin on Burt's shoulder and wrapped his arms around him. He didn't want to tell him what was actually getting to him but there was nothing else he could think of telling him to explain why he was upset.
"It's nothing dad, I'm just- I need to be alone." He said, hoping Burt would settle with that but, of course luck wasn't on Kurt's side today.
"No, what's got you worked up like this? Is it Blaine? Has he done something to you? I swear if he has-"
"No! Dad it's not Blaine, Blaine is still perfect." Kurt sniffled, a single tear had escaped and was now racing down Kurt's cheek, he wiped it off quickly before trying to turn and leave. Burt stopped him and pulled him back by his shoulder.
"So that's all I get?" He asked with a raised eyebrow "My son comes home from school four hours early all worked up and I'm just supposed to let him lock himself away in his room? I don't think so do you?" He said gruffly and Kurt shook his head no. He didn't know what to say, there was no way he was telling him but at the same time he wanted to get it off his chest.
"I just- I don't wanna talk about it, dad." He said so quietly it was almost a whisper "Can I talk to you about it later? I just want to clear my head." He said and Burt didn't even try and stop him.
"I'm not letting you off though; I want you to talk to me sometime." He said, pointing a finger and patting Kurt on the shoulder with the hand that was already there.
"Thanks dad." He said before slumping off to his room.
When he finally got there he locked the door and through his bag on the floor, not caring where it landed, his shoes were kicked off and across the room and he tumbled into bed, cocooning himself in his duvet. The offending report card sat in front of him as he finally let the tears flood his face, he was crying out months, maybe even year's worth of emotions that he'd been holding back. He was interrupted by a knocking on his door, he didn't reply, not feeling in the mood to talk to anyone at that moment. The person on the other side didn't go away however and the knocking intensified.
"Go away." Kurt moaned bluntly, it was harsh coming from him since he never normally turned people away from his door but the thought of having to confess how he was feeling made it all seem worse.
"Kurt honey, it's Carole, do you think you can let me in for a few minutes? I promise I won't force you to talk to me if you don't want to." She said, Kurt didn't like the way that implied she was undoubtedly going to guilt trip him into saying something. Reluctantly he hid the report card under his pillow and rearranged his duvet to make him look somewhat composed even though her motherly instincts would probably see through it at once.
He then remembered he locked his door so had to climb out from his arrangement to unlock the door, he opened it slightly to reveal a sympathetic looking Carole, he knew she only had his best interest at heart but the look on her face alone was enough to make him want to shut the door again. Instead he opened it a bit further to let her in, shutting it again once she was in. They both made their way over to the bed where he curled up again but she remained perched on the end, she looked at him as though trying to assess the best method of getting him to talk. In the end Kurt was the first to speak.
"I just wanted to be alone for a while." He said, trying hard not to throw a tantrum at the lack of privacy in this house, he couldn't even have a temporary breakdown without everything getting involved.
"I know, but maybe talking about it will help, hmm?" She suggested, he looked up at her and debated telling her everything.
Downstairs Burt made the decision to call in for backup, when Kurt had first started working on sing he'd made him hand over the phone numbers of Blaine, Bryan and David so that he could contact them in case of an emergency. This ought to count as an emergency, he reasoned with himself as he pulled up his contacts and scrolled down to find Blaine's name.
"Oh hey, Burt." Blaine answered as he picked up the phone, Burt briefly wondered why Blaine had picked up so quickly but it was lunch time and Kurt wasn't there to keep him company so he probably wasn't too busy.
"Blaine, have you seen Kurt at all today?" He asked, hoping that Kurt had at least made it to school that morning.
"Well I saw him before school and during break, I'm actually looking for him right now, I can't find him anywhere." Blaine thought out loud.
"That's because he turned up here about twenty minutes ago." Burt told him.
"Oh," Blaine replied, wondering what Kurt was doing at home. "What's he doing at home, he's not filming today?" Blaine asked, trying hard to think of anything he might have forgotten about.
"That's what I wanted to ask you, look, he's pretty worked up about something and he's not speaking to either of us so if it's not too much trouble would you mind coming over?" He asked, Blaine looked at his timetable which was useless considering they both knew he'd say yes, he wasn't missing much anyway, just sport so it was an easy one to get out of.
"Sure, I'm leaving now, I'll be there soon." He reassured Burt who sighed with relief, if there was one person that could get Kurt talking it would be Blaine.
"Thanks kid, drive safely okay?" He asked and hung up after Blaine assured him he would and ran his hands over his face, he tried to get his mind to work so that he could think about what could be causing Kurt to get so worked up but upon coming to no conclusions he had to accept the fact that he'd be waiting until Blaine came over. He was beginning to realise just how much he liked this Blaine kid, had he not been here it would have been a waiting game to see how long it would take for Kurt to talk to them.
It took another ten minutes for Carole to reappear in the kitchen, she shrugged at him as she came in to show him that she didn't have a clue what was going on.
"He still won't talk." She said, sounded mildly defeated, I honestly don't know what to do next.
"I've called Blaine." Burt confessed, if there's one person that can get through Kurt's stubbornness it's him so he's on his way.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Carole said, chewing on one of her nails "It's bad enough that Kurt's missing school but Blaine too?" She asked, it wasn't something Burt hadn't thought of and of course he felt guilty, but it's not like he could just do nothing, besides, he'd make it up to Blaine somehow.
"I hope he gets here soon." She said, busying herself around the kitchen, Burt just leant back against the counter and watched as she moved around, tidying things and cleaning them agitatedly.
"He shouldn't be too much longer." Burt replied, not actually knowing how much longer he'd be but trying not to let her get too stressed out.
"What did he actually say?" Burt asked, wondering if they'd just sat up there in silence.
"He told me he wanted to be alone to get his thoughts clear, I told him talking might help but we ended up talking about how he and Blaine actually got together. He seemed a lot more cheerful after that, I don't know though. By the time I left he seemed all bummed out again." She explained, Burt nodded, asking Kurt about Blaine was a sure fire way to make him cheer up these days.
As time passed Burt began to get more and more anxious about Blaine's imminent arrival, whilst he would undoubtedly make a difference, it worried Burt that if Blaine couldn't get him to talk then nobody would. His fretting was put on hold momentarily though as he heard the doorbell go, he rushed off to open it and pulled a rather stunned Blaine into a tight hug with a manly clap on the back before letting him into the house.
"Sorry we pulled you out of school but we're tearing our hair out over here." Burt apologised straight away, Blaine nodded looking uncertain.
"Where is he?" He asked, glancing around as though he would just appear.
"He's upstairs in his room, we've both tried getting him to talk to us but he claims he just wants to think, do you think you could try talking to him?" Burt asked, feeling rather desperate at this stage. Blaine nodded,
"I'll be back down soon." He said with a nod and trudged up the stairs to Kurt's door.
Coming face to face with Kurt's closed door was a new experience to him, still, unperturbed he knocked gently three times and waited for the reply.
"I told you I didn't want any coffee." Came the muffled voice from within, Blaine winced at how grouchy and upset he sounded but continued on with his original plan.
"Kurt, it's me." He said, softly enough to be calming but loudly enough that Kurt would be able to hear his voice clearly.
"Blaine?" Kurt asked in disbelief as he opened the door seconds later to get a better look.
"Of course, do I get to come in now?" He asked, taking in Kurt's tear stained face and wrinkled uniform. Kurt sniffled slightly and wiped his tears on his cardigan sleeve as Blaine came in, they both settled on the bed, Blaine taking off his shoes and putting his bag next to them so he could cross his legs and face Kurt.
"What happened today?" he asked, not really sure what had happened, all he knew was that Kurt had been the same as normal one minute bad had left school in a mess the next.
"It's too much, Blaine." He whispered after a moment of staying silent. "I thought I could handle it but I don't know what to do." He confessed, looking back at Blaine to see what his reaction was.
"I take it this is about sing then? He asked and Kurt nodded yes, "What happened then? You were fine this morning." He said, shifting closer so he could rub Kurt's arm in an attempt to comfort him. He suddenly thought of what had actually happened today, the whole school's report cards had been issued out.
Whilst Blaine had been doing the same as usual and had managed to easily pass his classes he hadn't thought about what Kurt's grades would look like this time. "Was it the report cards? Have your grades changed?" He pushed, it had to be something about that, and there was nothing else that could possibly make him this upset.
"I'm failing at things, Blaine." He murmured, some of them failed me." He said, talking about his teachers. Blaine sat there in shock, he thought his grades might have suffered a little bit but to be failing some subjects, that wasn't like Kurt at all, Kurt handed him the report card that was still hidden under the pillow and sat there silently as Blaine read it. He was assessing the damage whilst a lot of Kurt's grades had taken a hit there were still good ones, his drama grade had actually improved, and so had his English. His maths had gone down a grade but was now comfortably a B and he was just passing science at a C, even his failed ones weren't that bad; he was failing history and geography but not by much and he needed to bring up his home economics by a couple marks.
"Kurt, this isn't awful, sure you've done better but you're not a complete failure." He finished with a smile and Kurt chuckled. "I think you're overreacting, just try and get them back up again and you'll be fine." He assured him, Kurt pulled a face at the thought of having to try and work it all in better.
"DO you think, maybe I should drop my advanced classes for now and just go with normal ones?" He asked and Blaine thought about it carefully, it would help Kurt a lot to drop some but he was taking so many that he could afford to lose a few and keep some.
"Why don't you drop the ones that are least important to you? If you keep some you'll have more time to bring your grades up and be on sing?" He suggested, Kurt nodded at this new idea, he hadn't thought of just dropping a few. Kurt smiled now, glad that Blaine had successfully managed to clear his mind, he didn't feel like returning to school today though so knew he'd have to go down and face Burt and Carole at some point.
"I should go down, talk to my dad and Carole." He said, not making any signs to move but just thinking out loud.
"What are you going to tell them?" Blaine asked, wondering how Kurt was going to explain leaving school early because of a few bad grades.
"I don't know yet, I'll improvise." He gave Blaine a weak smile and actually stood up this time; he clutched the report card tight in his shaking hands and took a deep breath to calm himself. He headed towards the door then looked back "You coming?" He asked, making it clear that he wouldn't be going anywhere without Blaine at his side.
"Of course, I'm right here." Blaine said, getting up and moving over so he was right beside him "Ready?" He asked and Kurt nodded quickly before heading out and down the stairs.
When they got there they found Burt and Carole sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and talking quietly, they looked up as the two of them came in but didn't say anything. Kurt carried on until he was sat at the table, careful to hide the report card from their view until he was ready to show them, he hadn't quite figured out how to do that just yet though.
"Is there something you want to tell us, Kurt?" Carole asked in the same soft voice she'd used upstairs. Kurt still wasn't sure he was completely ready but decided to go for it anyway, he brought the report card up and placed on the table in the middle of all of them, nobody said anything but Burt was the first to pick it up.
Right in that moment Kurt was desperate to read Burt's face and see what kind of reaction was coming but he wasn't giving anything away, Burt finished reading and put it back down on the table, letting Carole pick it up and read.
"It's not brilliant." Burt started, "but you and I know it's not the end of the world." He said and could visibly see Kurt relax "Hell, these grades are better than some of my grades ever were." He said and Kurt was stunned at how well he was taking it. "That being said, we do need to talk about this." He said firmly and Kurt nodded, ready for the telling off he must be about to get. "Firstly, why didn't you tell any of us you were struggling? Secondly did you really think this was worth ditching school and getting upset over?" He asked, Kurt tried to find a way to explain himself, he must have known he was struggling, all the evidence was there, it just got ignored and pushed away like Kurt was in some kind of denial, like he expected it all to get better in time. He didn't know what to tell Burt; whatever he said sounded feeble and ridiculous and definitely wouldn't make the situation any better.
"I think Kurt just didn't realise how bad it was." Blaine supplied helpfully, Burt looked over at Blaine for a moment and Kurt just prayed he accepted that as an answer. "I've been in the same position before, but the teachers at Dalton are great at helping you bring your grades up if you tell them you're struggling." He explained and Kurt could have hugged him in that moment.
"Is that true?" Burt asked Kurt, whose face had gone slightly red with the sudden unwanted attention.
"I guess." He replied and Burt seemed satisfied. "I'm sorry I panicked today. I jsut pictured everyone getting angry with me and then I had to take classes with teachers that failed me and I couldn't take it. I was going to tell someone where I was but Blaine was in class and I thought you'd be at work so I didn't want to worry you." He rambled on "SO I just came home instead and I wanted to think about it properly before I told anyone." He said, almost in tears of frustration as he realised how unreasonable his actions seemed today.
"Oh Kurt, you shouldn't have got yourself worked up about this, you can't get the perfect grades every time but you shouldn't cause yourself this much worry about it." Carole tried to soothe him.
"We have to decide what we're gonna do about all of this though." Burt said, Kurt looked up at him in confusion, hadn't Blaine just told him that the teachers would help? "I want to see whether it would be wise to keep you in sing or not." He explained and Kurt's stomach dropped like a lead weight.
