May sighed in relief when the distance between has increased. She slowed the car down towards the side of a dirt road. The family sat in silence. May turned around and unstrapped the arm band.
"Okay! Bathroom break if anyone needs it." May said stretching her arms.
"Thank you so much, are you tired?" The wife said with a wiry smile.
"No I'm fine, thank you, by the way, I didn't catch your name." May said.
"Call me Julie." She smiled with wrinkles forming around her eyes. May smiled back.
"So what do you plan to do once you get to your fathers?" May asked the old lady.
"I hope that I can take care of him, he lives in a nice quiet town, and so Lily can enjoy and make friends." Julie said as her daughter popped up hearing her name.
She climbed onto her mom's lap and smiled.
"Look what I can do!" Lily smiled as a small orb, size of her thumb, of air floated above her fingers.
May clapped and smiled as Lily smiled in satisfaction.
"I learned it from uncle!" Lily said proudly. May nodded, "If you practice more than you can create an even bigger orb! Also you need to channel your love into it too."
Lily giggled when May said 'love', and she asked May to present her magic with 'love'. May agreed though she thought it wasn't a good idea too. May concentrated to summon a black fog that swirled into an orb the size of the car's wheel.
"Whoa! I want to create it big like that!" Lily said as she tucked some of her blonde hair behind her ear.
"I bet you can if you practice a little more." May said with a smile. The mom smiled at her daughter, "I didn't know she could get any powers since neither I nor my husband don't possess any."
"Hmm maybe it is recessive." May said with a shrug.
The two men reentered the vehicle and gave everyone a nod. Julie stayed awake with May pointing the directions to the small village. The sun was about to set letting the sky turn into an orange color.
"So, May is there someone special back home? I see the ring, honey. " Julie asked with a devilish smirk. May gulped and stuttered.
"W-w-what do you mean?" May stuttered turning pink of the thought of Jasper.
"Oh please, it's just girl's talk as if I can talk about this with Lily until years from now. So spill." Julie said leaning closer to May.
"Well, um I had a late fiancé. His name was Jasper, he's super cute and a bit of a cheeky man." May said with a sad smile, "We met underneath the largest tree in Magnolia. He wouldn't leave me alone until I talked to him. I guess it clicked after that."
May remembered the time they went out on their first date, to try out this new crave called "Ice-cream" and when they went, the whole place was crowded. Jasper, being the gentlemen, he told May to sit underneath the shade while he went to go get the ice-cream. She nodded and sat underneath the tree where they first met, and waited. Jasper came towards May as he tried to balance two cones in his hands; he successfully dropped one.
He was frantic about the dropped ice cream, and May giggled. She called him over to where she sat and he wirily smiled. Of course in the start of the ice cream business they only had one flavor, Vanilla, but it didn't mean they didn't have toppings. In between the two was a double scoop vanilla ice cream with a chocolate drizzle covering it with nuts and a red cherry. May took the cherry and inspected the fruit, as Jasper laughed at the girl. ""This is a cherry. They are sweet but sometimes sour." Was what Jasper told May and she ate the sour fruit and made her face pucker.
Later the date, May and Jasper walked alongside each other, Jasper was walking May back to her cave. Before Jasper left, she gave him a small peck on the cheek, which earned her an adult talk from Carnis, who was watching nearby.
May smiled like a fool when she remembered her first date with Jasper, and let out a happy sigh.
"You sure do love him, don't you? Well Jasper must have been one lucky fellow to have you." Julie replied but May responded, "No, I'm the lucky one."
A couple of days later May arrived at the destination. It was a cute town, it had only one road which had all the convenient stores and shopping center and the houses that surrounded that one road. Little kids crowded the car as May could barely keep her eyes open due to the lack of sleep.
"We're here!" Lily screeched as the car slowed down, making May jump.
The family climbed out of the car and stretched. Lily ran around with the younger kids. The father patted May on her back with a smile.
"Thank you, May." He said tiredly. May nodded and leaned forward.
May swayed back and forth, before she fell Julie caught her.
May didn't know how it happened but she was sitting on the back porch with Julie's dad. It was night time, Lily was already asleep and May was sipping on an unknown substance Julie's dad gave her.
"When I was younger, my family didn't have much money so I worked on a farm while the other kids my age went to school. But when I got older I met Julie's mom, and we sure did have some good times together. I wish I could stay young forever." Julie's dad said with a sigh.
May took a swing at her drink and gulped it down.
"I'd rather die than stay forever young because you start to notice how cruel people are to people below them and losing the people you love." May said without looking at anyone.
Julie's dad laughed, "What would you know. You look like a 17 year old."
"Sir, there is this old story about girl and boy who fell in love underneath the largest tree in Magnolia, but then the boy died and the girl lived on till this day." May told the man.
"Yes, that story is just a legend. My grandpa always told me about it before I went to sleep." He replied.
"Well, just like the story says, she saw her loved one die in front of her. How do you think she got away from people suspecting that she's not ageing? Honestly sir, how would you feel to live young, but see all the hate in this cold world? How would you feel when your wife grew older and die without you and you try to be with her every chance you get, but you can't die, then you're children and grandchildren pass away yet, you're still alive. You will start to limit yourself around people, and soon you'll be by yourself with no one to call yourself family." May started to ramble on to Julie's dad.
"You're pretty wise for a little girl like you." He said taking a sip from his drink, "I can see where you come from. Tell me, why you would want to die."
"I've seen a lot more than I should of sir." May took a large gulp from her drink and stood up. "Good night."
The next morning May left for her mission. She looked at the flier with the adorable monster on the top. May sighed and looked up.
"How can I beat a cute creature like him?" May asked in a questionable tone.
Okay sorry for the late late late late late late, Update. I felt really bad for neglecting this story for a couple of months so I knew I had to come up with something quick. Its not easy when I have school. I'm not doing well in school either with 4 C's and 2 B's so I really need to study. :*(. Though I hope that I can update sooner because in a few weeks I have spring break and so I'll have time for War Machine. Thank you for reading. Down below is a small one-shot for the reader! You stretched backwards and ears twitching feeling good after a afternoon nap in the sun. Yawning you swayed back and forth and got up.
"Yo, (y/n)!" You heard a voice behind you and you knew for the fact it was your boyfriend Natsu.
"Natchu.." You replied while rubbing your eyes. He came up to you and stroked the back of your (f/c) ears. You purred as he laughed. One thing you loved Natsu for is that he is a walking heater. You wrapped your arms around Natsu's chest and snuggled your head between his neck and collarbone.
"(y/n)!" Natsu stuttered with a blush on his face. He was turning red looking down at you, accidentally falling backwards but that didn't bother you.
"Sorry (y/n). Are you Okay?" Natsu asked rubbing his head. "... (y/n)?"
He had a tick mark on his head when he looked down at you, but then changed into a soft smile. You fell asleep on top of your boyfriend, while your tail was slowly swaying. Natsu decided to sleep next to you, as both of you fell asleep under the sun.
