(NARUTO'S POV)
"Mn..." I groaned, rolling over. 'Man, I havent slept this well in so long. Not since...' My thought's trailed off when I opened my eyes, and saw the sleeping face of Zero, just inches from me. That's when I remembered my nightmare, and how Zero held me in his arms, rocking me until I finally slept again. Staring at his face, I noticed how he still looks stressed even in sleep. Moving my hand, I smoothed the lines between his brows, doing that to his whole face until all the worry and stress lines were gone.
Just then, some light creeped in through the window, shining on Zero's face. I watched, my breath hitching, as the gentil sun played with the spun silver strands of his hair and lashes, illuminating them with an inner glow and glinting off of his piercing. Watching him like this, I couldn't help but to think of what it would have been like if nothing had changed. If Ichiru hadn't betrayed us, If that woman hadn't attacked us... If she hadn't bitten Zero. My eyes moved to his lips, tracing the shape with my eyes, my finger following soon after.
Still tracing his lips, I failed to notice until it was too late that Zero had woken up and was staring at me. Only when he gently gripped my hand in his, stopping my movements, did I looked up at his open eyes. Again I lost my breath, almost blinded by the light shining on Zero. 'He looks like a fallen angel...' I noticed, watching as how the light illuminated parts of him, yet still kept them in shadow. Like his eyes. The sun shined over them, making the soft lavender pools glow with holy light, but at the same time, kept them dark like velvet.
It was only then that I noticed his eyes were doing the same to me as mine were to him. When they stopped on my lips, my breathing started to become faster, and when his hand slowly started to cress the shape, It stopped altogether. His eyes snapped up to mine when this happened, and I noticed that he had a strange look in his eye. It was only a second later that I recognized it, for I had seen it in many other eyes. I was hunger. For what I didn't know, but just the fact that he was looking at me like that made my heart stutter in anticipation. I swallowed heavily, trying to breathe again.
His eyes then went to my throat, and he rested his other hand there. Slipping it up into my hair, he lifted me closer. I didn't even realize that he had changed positions, him now leaning over me. Feeling him brush his nose down my neck from my jaw to my collarbone. It was when he lightly licked my pulse that I could finally breath again, knowing that he couldn't live with himself if he drank from someone. "Zero..." I breathed, barely managing to say that much. He froze above me, his hand on my neck tightening slightly. He slowly raised his head, still keeping me close. Looking into my eyes, it took him a moment to realize what he was about to do.
"OH SHIT!" He yelled, jumping away from me. I leaned up, still trying to regulate my breathing. Zero held a hand over his eyes, refusing to look at me. I had to let him know that it was ok, that if he needed to, he could drink from me. "Zero-" I began but, but he interrupted before I could finish, "Sorry. I'm sorry..." pausing for a minute, he took in a shaky breath and continued, moving his arm and wiping his face of any emotion. Looking me in the eye, he said "We don't have to go to the first half of class today, so you are free to do what ever you want." Reaching out a hand, I tried to stop him as he opened the door. "If you need anything, just ask Yuki, and if she can't help you ask the Chairman. I'll be in the shower."
And with that, the door was shut again with a soft click that echoed loudly throughout the room. Getting up, I absent mindedly noted how the room was darker than before Zero left. 'He doesnt realize how pure he really is... if anyone is the monster here it would be-" I cut my thoughts off before they could go any further. 'I dont want to think about that. It's in the past, and that's where it will stay.' stepping out into the hall, I headed over to the direction I smelled food wafting in from. Peeking my head in, I noticed the Chairman standing in front of the stove, flipping pancakes high into the air. I cleared my throat, startling him. Jumping, he used more force than intended to flip the pancake, causing it to land on my head with a dry thump.
"AH, Naruto-Kun! I'm so sorry, you startled me, I didn't mean to!" the Chairman said, spinning and starting to flutter around me like a hummingbird. Reaching up, I tore off a piece and placed it in my mouth, chewing slowly. "Mmm..." I hummed, taking the whole cake from my head and biting into it. He stopped when I made that sound, staring at me. "Do you like it?" He asked, tilting his head slightly. I nodded happily, stuffing the rest into my mouth. He smiled, looking relived, and said "Well, there's more where that came from! Just go sit at the table and there will be more right out!" I stared at him for a while, watching as he went about his task. After a few moments, I shrugged and walked through the swinging door, noticing a dirty plate on the table, along with a glass.
'Yuki must have just been here.' I thought, moving the dishes into the sink before I took my seat. A few moments later, the Chairman walked through the door, caring two plates piled high with the thin cakes, my mouth-watering at the smell of warm syrup. Placing one in front of me, he sat down across from me. I watched as he mixed hot butter and syrup in a bowl before he poured it all over his pancakes, making a soup. Noticing my staring, he smiled and explained, "My favorite part of eating pancakes is when the syrup and butter mix together, so instead of just waiting for that to happen, I just like to speed up the process." I raised my eyebrows in an understanding way, grabbing the syrup when he held it out to me.
About halfway through the meal, he set down his fork, and I looked up to see him looking right back at me. Seeing as he had my attention, he opened his mouth, "May I ask you a question?" He asked, watching as I set down my own fork and sat up from over his glasses. Nodding, I tilted my head to the side, wondering what he could possibly want to know about. "How did you sneak up behind me...?" He asked, causing me to freeze. 'Doesn't he know?' I thought, meeting his un-blinking gaze. I swallowed, wondering how much about me he truly didn't know if he had to ask that question.
Opening my mouth to ask my own question, I was interrupted my the opening of the door.
