Chapter Ten: Going back Home
"You guys did an excellent job on the last mission. So, as of today Night Raid has two days off." Najenda declared.
"Man, thanks boss." Lubbock said, with a smile on his face.
"Uh, Tatsumi can we do something today?" Mine asked, her face was turning red.
"Uh, yea sure." Tatsumi responded, both of them started leaving the base.
"So, Hiei what do you plan on doing?" Leone asked.
"Oh, I'm going back home to visit. I haven't been there in a while." Hiei responded.
"Wait, I thought the empire…" Chelsea said.
"Ever since I joined the revolutionary army, I used whatever I earned to rebuild it." Hiei responded.
Everyone looked at him with a surprised and confused expression.
"Hiei, exactly how much money did you earn?" Lubbock asked, with a surprised expression.
"Well, really don't know. But I kept accepting the harder jobs no one else would take. Taking down dangerous Danger Beasts, assassin groups and small armies that kind of stuff." Hiei asked. "They're extremely difficult, but they have an insanely high pay."
"Well, guys. How about we go see Hiei's village?" Leone asked.
"What, you want to go all that way just to see my…"
Before Hiei could finished, everyone already left to pack.
"Man, I really wanted to just ask Akame to come." Hiei thought, with a slight sigh. "But, I guess it'll be fun if everyone else came."
Everyone got ready for the trip to Hiei's village, they were traveling on the air manta.
"How does it feel to go back home, Hiei?" Akame asked.
"I haven't been there in a while, after everything with the empire ended. I was planning on reestablishing my clan, it is my home after all." Hiei said.
"I never had anywhere to call a home that was until I joined Night Raid. It became my home to go to, and everyone became my family." Akame responded, with a smile on her face.
"Well, looks like you two are getting chummier by the day." Leone responded, as she placed her arm around them.
Both of them sighed after Leone ruined their moment again.
"Wait, we're almost there." Hiei said, as he stood up.
"Wait, that's your village. It's huge." Lubbock asked, with a shocked expression. "It's HUGE!"
The Tsuki no Village, was three acres long and wide with large metal gates surrounding it. Once everyone landed, Hiei opened the gate allowing everyone to come inside.
"Yea, this place hasn't change a bit." Hiei responded.
He looked around the newly built houses, stores and shops. Though he was happy to be back, everything just brought back memories.
"You guys, can find a place to set up. I need to go somewhere." Hiei said, as he walked down a nearby street.
"He's probably going to visit those who died." Najenda said. "I only caught a glimpse, but I saw a massive graveyard."
As Hiei was walking through the streets, memories were flowing through his head. Children were playing, the blacksmiths were doing their jobs, and the elderly was drinking and gambling.
"They'll never be able to rest, not until everything's over." Hiei stated as he walked into the graveyard.
As soon as he got there standing in front of him was a large white wolf with a scared right eye, Hiei readied his sword. But the wolf didn't attack him, it only stared at him.
"Oh, I see." Hiei responded.
As he looked at the grave it was sitting at, Yukino Hiei's mother. Hiei sat down next to the wolf, as he prayed for the dead.
"Hey, Hiei I brought flowers for…!" Tatsumi called out, as he brought flowers.
He was stunned as he saw Hiei, sitting down next to the wolf nonchalantly.
"Oh, hey Tatsumi." Hiei responded, with a straight face.
"Wait, what're you doing next to that wolf?" Tatsumi asked, as he prepared his Teigu.
"Calm down." Hiei said to Tatsumi, holding his hand out.
"What do you mean calm down?" Tatsumi asked, as he pointed his sword at the wolf.
"Oh, this large wolf is my grandfather." Hiei answered, as he pointed at the wolf.
"Wh-what, how could you possibly know that?" Tatsumi asked.
"I just do." Hiei responded, as he shrugged his shoulders.
The wolf stood up and started travel back into the forest.
"Bye, grandpa." Hiei called out, as he waved goodbye.
The wolf responded with a howl, he turned his head and saw Tatsumi giving him a deadpanned look.
"Why're you making at look?" Hiei asked.
"Because of you, you have the weirdest relatives!" Tatsumi responded, as he pointed at Hiei.
"Really?" Hiei asked, Tatsumi gave up trying to talk to Hiei.
"Hey, Hiei!"
Everyone else showed up to pay their respects, Hiei smiled as he told them stories about his life here.
"Man, why didn't you guys let me spy on the girl when they were in here?" Lubbock asked, as he looked up.
"Because they would've killed you." Tatsumi responded.
"But the temperature is perfect." Susano'o said.
"Yea, we found this by accident. It feels great right, grandpa?" Hiei asked.
A white haired man looking like he's in his thirties popped from the water.
"Yea, grandson. It feel even better in my human form." The old man responded with a smile.
"Uh, who is this guy?" Tatsumi asked.
"Man, you're one annoying human." The man answered, with an annoyed tone. "You're also very rude, we've met already."
"Wait, are you that wolf?" Tatsumi asked.
"His name's Yukio. He's a Yōkai wolf-type like my mother." Hiei answered.
"How can you say that so nonchalantly?" Lubbock asked.
"I really don't see what your problem is. Right, gramps. Su-San." Hiei responded, both Susano'o and Yukio responded by nodding their heads.
"I'm done." Tatsumi stated.
As the five of them continued bathing in the hot springs, Yukio began looking in Hiei's direction.
"Hiei, more than anyone you know that killing your father won't bring her back." Yukio said, as he looked at the moon covered sky. "I was planning on killing him, everyone one of us planned to. But, we Yōkai are one of the only Danger Beasts who can think rationally."
"I know that, but I can't let a man like him roam free. This isn't just about justice, this is about making sure he doesn't start another conflict like this again." Hiei responded. "Now, why don't I show everyone why the place is nicknamed the Tsuki no Village."
Minutes later, everyone was gathered for dinner on top of a large hill.
"Why'd we have to climb up here?" Mine asked.
"Just wait, the moons almost out." Hiei answered.
"Uh, Hiei. Who's the mysterious old guy?" Chelsea asked.
But before Hiei could speak Tatsumi covered his mouth.
"Let's just say, he is Hiei's grandfather." Tatsumi answered.
Hiei removed his hand and pointed at the moon. Once the moonlight shined through the clouds. The entire village shined with a brilliant show of lights, similar to a blue colored aurora.
"Wow." Mine said, as her expression became elated.
Everyone showed the same expression as her.
"Whenever the moon comes out the minerals around the village glows with the same radiance." Hiei explained.
"This is amazing." Akame said.
Akame reached out for Hiei's hand. Both of them smiled, as they ate and watched the rest of the lightshow.
"Well, Hiei it was nice to finally meet you." Yukio said.
He transformed back into a wolf and ran back into the forest.
"Alright, I'll see you guys tomorrow." Hiei called out.
He started walking towards a house far from the other, he stopped in front of that house he lived when he was a child.
"I'm home." Hiei said to himself.
He walked inside and noticed everything was silent, nothing the room has been touched by anyone. He took off his jacket and placed Getsuga next to his bedside. And he lied down and drifted to sleep. An hour later, Akame walked into his room wearing her pajamas and got under his sheets while he was still sleeping.
"I'll just stay here for a while." Akame said.
She turned towards him, but as she drifting asleep she felt Hiei's arm wrap around her and pulled her closer to him. She looked up and saw him smiling at her.
"You can stay the entire night if you want." Hiei responded, with a smile.
"So, you were still up." Akame stated, as she faced Hiei blushing slightly.
"Couldn't sleep, I was just thinking about this place." Hiei answered. "It's still weird, not hearing everyone's voices. This place used to be filled with the laughter of children, adults being adults and families being together."
"It could be that again, once everything's over." Akame responded.
"Yea, and maybe we could…" Hiei said, but was stopped as Akame kissed him passionately.
"I know, I have that same dream of being here with you." Akame responded, with a smile. "Just to two of us, with a family of our own one day."
Akame fell asleep in Hiei's arms with a smile on her face.
