Lightning moved from the shower, toweling her hair as she grinned at Serah, who was heading into the bathroom. Wrapping another towel around her body, the soldier cocked her head and turned to the living room as the doorbell rang. Grabbing a trench coat and slipping into it, she buttoned it quickly as she opened the door.

"Good morning!" Vanille bounced, bringing her bag inside. Fang followed calmly, nodding to Lightning as she did.

"What are you two doing here?" the pinkette inquired, blue eyes narrowed suspiciously.

"Well, Vanille thought it would be better if we brought her teaching things over early and set up so she wouldn't have to do it after school and waste time." Fang replied, leaning against the wall as Vanille bounced exuberantly.

"Is that alright?" Vanille paused and turned to her in worry.

"Yeah, go ahead." Lightning nodded, moving to the kitchen and grabbing a bowl of cereal.

"Why're ya wearin' a trench coat?" Fang asked in confusion.

"Because when you arrived, I'd just gotten out of the shower. I'm only wearing a towel underneath."

Vanille and Fang both blushed at this and turned away for a moment. A few seconds later, the shower stopped and Serah bounced down the stairs, also only wearing a towel. "Claire have you seen my favorite perfume? I thought I left it-." Serah stopped at the sight of Fang and Vanille standing in the living room. Backing back up the stairs, she turned and called, "Never mind!"

Lightning chuckled at the blush on Fang's face as Vanille finished setting up. Standing, she cocked her head and moved back into the living room. At the same time, Serah bounded down the stairs and crashed into her, bowling her over and landing on top. Straddling her sister, Serah pouted and crossed her arms.

"Serah?" Lightning huffed.

"That was mean, Claire. You could've told me!"

"You were coming down too quickly." Lightning replied, flipping them both over so that she was on top. Serah made to throw a punch, but Lightning caught the fist. Serah tried again and the same result happened. Bringing her knee up, Serah felt her sister's leg pin her own and Lightning raised an eyebrow.

Serah continued pouting and grumbled, "Still mean."

Lightning shook her head and let her sister up, pulling her into a standing position. They turned to the two Gran Pulsians and found them gawking at them. The two sisters glanced at each other in confusion and Lightning asked, "What?"

"You're certain you're not dating?" Fang choked out, feeling her entire body begin tingling.

"Positive." The soldier answered. Serah shifted slightly before glancing to Vanille.

"Professor, what are you and Fang doing here?"

"Oh, I was just setting up for this afternoon so that I didn't have to do it when I arrived after school."

"Oh, alright, that makes sense." Serah grinned and saw Lightning watching Vanille speculatively.

"Hey Vanille, can I speak with you?" The redhead cocked her head at the soldier's nervous behavior and nodded, following Lightning from the room.

While they were gone, Fang showed Serah how to twirl the Lance. "See, all ya gotta do is take this hand here and bring it around while this hand here twists at the wrist in order to rotate it."

Serah slowly mimicked the movements Fang was showing her, twirling the Lance carefully. "There ya go." Fang grinned. "Now, try it faster."

Serah flashed her a smile and began twirling the Lance quickly, moving it around behind her before spinning back in front of her and above her head. Fang watched, slack-jawed, as Serah spun the Lance like a pro, green eyes wide and awed. When she was finished, the pinkette handed the Lance back and smiled.

"It's very beautiful, Fang." She beamed, looking up at her.

"How did you-?"

"Claire taught me how to spin one, but not how to use it." Serah interjected, turning as Lightning and Vanille came back out of the room. Vanille bounced along in front of Lightning and smiled at Fang.

"Are you ready for work?" the redhead asked.

"Yeah, let's go." Fang waved to the pair and headed out the door.

Serah turned to her sister with a smile and found Lightning returning it. Blue eyes widened as Serah realized what Lightning had just done and she squealed in happiness. "Claire, that's great!"

"How did you know?" Lightning asked with a knowing look.

"Your smile tipped me off. Good job, Sis. I'm going to head to school so I'm not late. I'll see you tonight." Lightning nodded and headed up to their room, slipping into her uniform.

FFXIII-FFXIII-FFXIII

Lightning sighed as she typed at her desk. She hated doing desk work. Desk work meant that she wasn't moving and that she had to be doing next to nothing while only her head and hands actually did something. She hated not moving, not being able to walk or run or… do something.

Her companions seemed not to mind really, but Lightning had a suspicion that Raines and Rygdea were simply keeping quiet about it. Glancing to her Colonel, Lightning cocked her head at his completely relaxed expression, wondering how that could possibly be. Doesn't he feel… something off about just sitting around? Does he enjoy desk work more than field work?

As if he could sense her thoughts, Lieutenant Colonel Rosch turned his head to face her and gave a wink. Lighting resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she turned to face her computer again. Looking to the picture of Serah on her desk, Lightning smiled at the thought of her sister before frowning at the fact that none of their family were in Cocoon anymore.

Rosch watched the emotions play on the soldier's face and wondered what could make someone so stoic smile and frown like that. Is there a bittersweet memory she's thinking of? A joke that turned out to be really bad? So many possibilities within that beautiful mind.

Just then, the phone rang across the room and Raines and Rygdea tried to go for it at the same time. They ended up in a heap with each other and continued to try disentangling themselves from each other. Rosch watched Lightning approach them and his eyes widened when she easily pulled them apart. While they were standing and dazedly staring at her, Lightning picked up the phone and answered.

"Hello?" she paused and listened. "Yes sir. Where?" she paused once more. "Understood. Alive? Pity. Yes sir, we'll be right down."

Hanging up the receiver, she turned to her team. "Lieutenant Amodar wants us to check out an escaped murderer in downtown Bodhum. He thinks he might be connected to the Mafia, but he wants the guy brought in alive in order to interrogate him."

"Alright, men. You heard her. Let's go." Rosch surveyed Lightning as they all grabbed their packs and headed out, Rygdea driving the hovercar. Arriving at the scene where the murderer had last been spotted, the team spread out, heading in different directions to try getting a better perception of which way he headed.

Rygdea knelt beside some tracks in the mud and called, "Looks like he's heading toward the southern border. Tracks continue all the way down the road."

"Yeah," Raines sighed. "But he could have noticed that he was leaving tracks and used that to lead us in the wrong direction."

"Then perhaps all of us should split up?" Rosch inquired, turning to Lightning and seeing her with her head tilted back slightly.

"Two should follow the tracks." Lightning told them, glancing toward the western border. "The other two should head toward the west."

"Why is that, soldier?" Rosch raised an eyebrow.

"There's the smell of sulfur in the air." Lightning told him. "He may want to get the scent off of him if he noticed it and would thereby go toward the ocean. Someone with the scent of sulfur on them would be easily detectable, but almost everything in Bodhum smells like the ocean so he wouldn't be looked at twice."

"Good thinking." Raines praised. "Rygdea and I will follow the tracks, Sir."

Rosch nodded and headed in the direction of the beach on foot with Lightning. The pinkette moved quickly through the city, following the scent of sulfur in the air as Rosch followed a little ways behind, watching her work. Seeing how she would stop often enough to check and make certain that she was following the trail, Rosch understood why she was so good at what she did.

How exotic. The hair color, the eye color, the strength, the speed, the determination… she is an enigma that I need to crack. She's so beautiful and strong, yet solemn and almost closed off. How to get the job done… Rosch sighed and realized what he had to do.

As Lightning was getting nearer to the scent she was looking for, she heard a rustling behind her and growled, realizing that the Lieutenant Colonel could potentially give away their position. Moving quickly, she just took the opportunity, pouncing on the man that was observing the beach without a second thought.

Rosch moved closer to the soldier as she began moving slowly. He was unsure of what she was doing, but he knew he had to move fast. Taking a step back, he leaped at the soldier. However, he was unprepared for her to jump away from him at the last second and he found himself face-first in the bushes.

Lightning wrapped the man's hands behind his back and yanked his arms when he tried to resist. "You need to come with us." She told him dully, pulling him along as she found the Lieutenant Colonel nursing his face. "What happened, Sir?" she inquired in confusion.

"I tripped while following you and landed in the bush." Rosch sighed, turning to her. "Good work, Soldier, I've already contacted Rygdea and Raines. They're going to clear the area to make certain he didn't have any accomplices and then they're heading back to the base."

Lightning nodded and pulled the man behind them as they made their way back to headquarters on foot, avoiding too many people so that no one asked questions. Arriving at headquarters, Lightning handed the murderer off to Lieutenant Amodar and headed to her desk. As she was entering the room that her team resided in, she heard the door shut and lock behind her.

Turning, Lightning was surprised to find herself pressed against her desk, Rosch's body pressing against hers. "Sir-!" Lightning growled.

"Soldier, that was very insightful of you." Rosch husked. "You were like a survivalist, the way you tracked that man like an animal. It was very attractive."

"Sir, get off me." Lightning snarled.

"I don't think so, Soldier." Rosch leaned closer, gray eyes boring into blue. "I don't take lightly to being told no."

"Well, you're going to have to deal with it." The pinkette growled, pressing a hand against his chest and pushing him backward. The Lieutenant Colonel's eyes widened as he was propelled backward all the way to the door and Lightning's eyes narrowed. His lip curled and he advanced again, but his target darted around him, unlocking the door and leaving before he even realized she had moved.

Rosch grinned, rubbing his chin as he sat at his desk. This is kind of fun.

Alright, there's the chapter. I hope you liked it. You knew this was going to happen, so don't yell at me, but do tell me how you liked it. Review.
