Chapter Ten
"…So basically that's what's happened."
It was Sunday night and as soon as I had gotten off the bus at school, I had a five hour shift at work and had basically ran the whole way, a thousand thoughts galloping through my head. I needed to speak to the boss-man about my predicament.
Ryo stared at me for a long moment before grinning at me.
"Well, you're pretty screwed then, aren't you?"
I scowled at him. "Tell me something I don't know." I sighed and added, "Is that the best you can do? I come to you for advice and all you tell me is, is that I'm screwed? Gee, thanks, Ryo-kun."
He chuckled lightly, taking one more drag of his cigarette before throwing it to the ground and crushing it. "I hate to admit it kiddo, but I have no idea what I'd do if a set of twins both wanted me. I guess you just have to figure out who you like more and go from there."
"But that's just it; I don't know who I like more! They both are extremely…" I paused, trying to find the right word, "Infuriating."
Ryo laughed loudly at this. "If they annoy you so much, why do you even want to be with one of them?"
I shrugged. "They have some good qualities too, infuriating is just one word that describes them the best."
Ryo put his hand on my shoulder and gave me a rare, serious look. "I know this sounds corny, Kotoko, but you're like a sister to me and I just want what's best for you. So I think you should just follow your heart and when you really listen to it, it'll tell you who you truly want to be with."
I allowed myself a small smile and gave my boss a quick hug.
"Thanks, Ryo."
I tugged my apron off as we went back inside and gathered up my belongings. Just as I was about to walk out the door, Ryo called out to me.
"Oh, and Kotoko?" I turned on my heel to look at him. "When you finally realise who you want, you need to tell them the truth."
I gulped. "T-the truth?"
He nodded. "About whom you actually are. You can't base a relationship on lies, even you know that."
I sighed heavily and then gave him a weak smile. "One step at a time, Ryo, one step at a time."
He grinned and waved me off and I spent the duration of the walk home trying to figure just what the hell I was going to do.
Kicking off my shoes as I trudged through the door, I was greeted by my mother, who was looking extremely excited. I glanced at her warily.
"Hi mum, what's up?"
She bounced up to me, happiness radiating off her. "Do you know why I love the fact that you go to Ouran, Kotoko?" I shook my head in bemusement so she continued, "It's because you make such nice friends who come from some of the most important families in all of Japan."
I groaned and dragged at hand through my brown locks. "Who was here today, then?" I swear, if Kyoya had randomly turned up at my house again while I wasn't here, I was going kill him.
"Oh no, sweetie, you've got it all wrong, they are here right now, waiting for you in your room! I can't believe you made friends with an Aihara family member! I'm so proud!"
All the blood drained from my face and I grabbed at the counter-top in the kitchen to steady myself.
"Kotoko?" My mother asked, concern etched across her face, "Are you okay?"
I shook my head a few times and turned to her. "I'm fine…sorry, who did you say was here?"
Mum shifted her gaze from my bedroom door to me. "Aihara Hina…she told me you were good friends and that she needed to speak with you immediately."
I swayed again and my knees started to shake. This can't be happening.
"Are you sure you okay, sweetheart?"
I nodded my head and began taking cautious steps towards my room. "I'm good Mum, thanks…if you don't mind; could I have a little privacy with Hina-chan?" Ugh, Hina-chan, the words sounded false and disgusting on my tongue but I had to play this right.
Mum simply smiled, "I'm heading to the shops for a few things but I'll be back soon, don't stay up to late, Hina said she needed to leave pretty soon anyway."
I simply nodded, not trusting myself to say anything and without another word, opened my door and stepped through, before closing it firmly behind me.
She was sitting on my bed, looking perfectly innocent and was gazing at my pictures of Satomi and me. I coughed slightly and she turned her attention to me.
"Hello, Kotoko, sorry for intruding, your mother was just showing me around the house before you came home from work." She said the last word with distain but I chose to ignore it.
"Good evening, Aihara-san." I sat down on my bed, glancing at her through my eyelashes. I wasn't up for playing her games. I just needed to know how she found out. "How did you-"
"Find out you live here?" She smiled sweetly at me and I felt sick. "My personal assistant is extremely efficient, I wanted her to find out all she could about you and oh boy, did she strike gold."
I closed my eyes and let a bitter chuckle escape past my lips. "This is because of the twins, isn't it?"
When I trusted myself to look at her again, her eyes had grown dark and her lips were twisted in a superior smirk. "Did you honestly think that I would let you tear down what I have been building up for years?" She hissed, glaring at me with such fury that I shrunk away from her. "Did you truly think you could spend the next three years in blissful happiness when you were lying to everyone about who you really are? You are just a simply, filthy commoner who clearly doesn't know her place."
I dropped my eyes to the floor, trying my hardest to stop myself from crying.
"Awww, poor, pathetic Kotoko, being found out by the one person who doesn't give a rat's ass about her." She sneered at me and rose from her chair. "Listen well and good, Ogura because I'm only going to say this once. Tomorrow after school, in the Host Club, if you don't tell everyone there who you really are, I will. And believe me; I'll make it sound a lot worse."
My head snapped up, my terrified orbs meeting hers.
"Please, Aihara-san, you can't-"
She cackled, the venom in her laugh making me flinch. "Yes I bloody can. You've lied to everyone, you've made people believe you are something completely different and when they finally find out what you are, they'll want nothing to do with you."
"So this is about the twins."
"Of course it's about Hikaru and Kaoru! I cannot wait to see the look of disgust of their faces when they find out the truth. And who will be waiting in the wings to comfort them? That's right, me. They'll get over their silly infatuation with you and go back to adoring me. The way it's meant to be."
"I-I didn't mean for any of this to happen, Aihara-san, it just did, please, don't make me-"
Hina turned her nose up at me and she grabbed her bag from the chair. "You don't belong in our world, Ogura and the sooner you and everyone else realises this, the better. See you tomorrow afternoon."
I watched as she marched from my bedroom and out the front door. The moment she was gone, I fell to the ground and completely broke-down.
Dun dun dunnnnn! Next chapter will be up pretty soon, considering I've already written it! It'll be up sooner if you review! Thanks, LucyMoon1992 x
