In the dead of night, I could only hear Len's clock ticking as his soft snores over came Ia's. We switched now; Len slept by himself and Ia and I slept in the actual bed. The kid was pretty much knocked out and I would have been too if I hadn't blacked out a few hours prior and now I couldn't get to sleep. I sat up and carefully snuck out of bed to look out the window. The hosts were wandering around as usual, protecting us. More importantly, protecting Ia. This small child was a literal walking antidote and it made sense that protecting her should be the highest priority. After all, if she wasn't, those who had her would be able to control an army of dead people as well as basically render the hosts somewhat useless. That being said, they could still murder us if we-
Bang.
"What was that?" I carefully opened the window and looked around.
Bang.
Bang.
"Stop that," I snapped, quietly to the outside. It seemed that one of the hosts were hitting the side of the RV with their fists.
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
"Why are you guys banging against the...R...V...?" The host that banged their fists against the RV finally stopped and looked over at me. "What?"
"Rin." What. "Rin. Can you hear me?" Oh great. Was this a side effect of Ia's blood? Was blood suppose to travel this quickly through the body? I always did fail anatomy. There were just too many medical terms and I never really thought I would need to know anything like that. After all, I was aiming to be a lawyer or something anyway. "It's me. Rin. Rin, it's me. It's Lily."
This couch was hell on my back. I've always hated sleeping on couches and futons. I opened my eyes and sat up to check my watch. Great. Three hours of sleep. I barely got any sleep ever since Ia came with us. Kids just slow us down, but if she kept the hosts off our back, then we might as well keep her. At least she didn't get in the way as much. I sighed and turned my gaze over at girlie and Ia in bed, but only saw Ia sleeping her life away.
"Girlie?" I called out, looking around. A slight rush of adrenaline surged through my body when I didn't get an answer. "Oh fuck." I forced myself up onto my feet and looked around. The window was still cracked open, so I pull my mask on and looked outside. "Girlie? You out there? You better not be throwing up again or we'll run out of water." She was out there, not far from the van, but she was surrounded with hosts. They weren't attacking her, but I still ran out of the RV and made my way over to her. "Girlie, goddamn it. What the fuck are you-" I was met with growling from one of the hosts.
"Pfft, that was rude, sis," she laughed, turning to me. "She called you a banana hair fuck." My eye twitched. "Anyway, what's wrong, Len? Did Ia wake up?"
"No, but it's dangerous out here, get back in the RV."
"It's not dangerous and besides, I'm talking to my sister."
"Isn't your sister a host?" She pointed to the host that groaned at me before hand. For a host, she looked...pretty torn apart. Her clothes were torn and dirtied, her blonde hair was covered in dirt. Her skin was blue and black, her eyes looked absolutely dead. Not a surprised, she was a host, after all. Parts of her sick looked as if she had been torn at by other hosts. "...You can talk to hosts?"
"It's Ia's blood, I think," she replied, shoving her hands into her pockets. "You know how Ia can talk and control hosts? I can't control hosts, but I can hear them. It's interesting, actually, what they're all saying. It's a myriad of things. Their thoughts are still there, you know? Like they are still...them? Does that make sense? Anyway, it's them. They're not dead dead unless their heads are exploded. They're still alive and so are their thoughts, it's just kind of strange how they think too. They...seemed to remember mostly bad things."
"That's extremely concerning."
"It's also useful, you know? They remember a few things, but apparently, it all hurts really badly if they think too much about it," she explained, but was interrupted by a yawn. "Hey what time is it? I'm really tired."
"That's your own fault," I sighed, shaking my head. "Get back into the RV. The others are going to wake up soon anyway." It seemed that she was ready to get to bed anyhow and we both walked back to the RV. Like I though, princess and wild girl were already up and eating what they good from the kitchen. Ia was back in the bathroom, getting ready for the day.
"Rin, why are you sleeping?" Miku asked, frowning when girlie plopped down on the couch.
"I was up all night talking to the hosts." I fixed the pull-out bed and went to the back to use the bathroom.
Yeah, I get bored during class.
