Chp 11
Emrys was even more helpless when they held them down. He could've flung them in every direction and snapped them like they're nothing, but his father gave him a warning shot because he couldn't risk exposing Emrys true identity. He wanted to help; he couldn't stand watching his father writhing in pain. Steve was preaching, but Emrys couldn't care less. His focus now is how to get his father out. "How can you people listen to him?", said Sookie. "I…, I offer myself in exchange for Godric's freedom…, and them as well", said Eric, weakly. He hated being in this state in front of his son.
"That's noble, but they're just as culpable as you are", said Steve, "They're traitor to their race – the human race. They hardly deserve mercy. Maybe we should tie them to you so you guys can meet the sun together". "Let him go, please!", Emrys yelled. "This marshmallow will roast up nicely", said Steve as he walked towards Emrys, "But I'd like to try something". Eric used his strength to turn his attention towards his son. Steve asked for silver and Emrys knew what he's going to do. "No! Get away from him!", Eric yelled with all the strength he could muster.
"This might hurt a bit", said Steve as he put the silver slowly and deliberately. The silver burn against Emrys's skin and he tried so hard to not scream in pain. "Let him go! Don't hurt him!", yelled Sookie while Eric tried in vain to release himself from his restrains. "What are you, boy? Vampires can't walk during daylight", asked Steve. "I'm…, twice the better man you are, faggot", said Emrys as he laughed. Then, Bill Compton came in, dashing through the doors. Bill ran to Sookie, but stopped halfway when Steve pulled out a gun and aimed to Sookie. "One more step, vampire and the girl dies", said Steve. "If you shoot her, everyone here will die!", said Bill, "Let her go now".
"Honestly what do they see in you? Soldiers, some silver chain for our friend here", said Steve. "Don't, he's done nothing to you", said Sookie. "Sookie, I'll be fine", said Bill. Suddenly, there was a shouting, "Newlin!". Then, Steve's hand was hit by a paint dart and he dropped the gun and the silver chain that was held at Emrys's face. Emrys turned around to see a blond man yelling to let Sookie go before shooting another paint dart straight to Steve's forehead. The blond man was apprehended by some soldiers and Bill Compton managed to push the soldiers holding Sookie. Sookie used the opportunity to go and released Eric.
Eric, who was recovering fast, ran to Emrys, draw some blood and let Emrys drink. When Emrys was nearly healed, Eric closed the wound on his wrist and went to choke Steve Newlin. "Eric, do not kill him!", yelled Sookie, but the blond man yelled, "Kill him! Kill the motherfucker!". "Go ahead and murder us", said Steve, "Murder us before God. We are willing to die". Emrys got up in time Stan arrived with a group of vampires. "Steve Newlin", Stan called out, "You pushed us too far. You'd expect us to sit on our thumbs while you round up your men to come and lynch us. We'll kill you first…, same way we did to your father".
Steve wanted to get up, but Eric's hold was too strong for him to fight. "Stand down, Stan", Emrys ordered, but he was ignored. "Destroy them, all of them", said Stan and every single vampire grabbed a human and ready to bite, before Godric appeared and stopped them. "You came for me, I assume? Underling?", said Godric. Stan was fighting the urge to bite and said, "Yes, sheriff". "These people have not harmed me", said Godric, "You see, we can co-exist. Mr. Newlin, I do not wish to create bloodshed when it is uncalled for. Help me to set an example; if we leave you in peace, will you do the same?". "I will not negotiate with sub-humans", said Steve as he knelt in front of Eric and loosen his collar, "Kill me, do it, Jesus will protect me". "I'm actually older than your Jesus. I wished I could've known him, but I missed it", said Godric.
Godric was faster than any vampire, including Eric; that Emrys had known. In swift seconds, Godric was behind Steve Newlin as he grabbed a hold of his collar. "Good people", said Godric, addressing the crowd, "Who of you are willing to die for this man's madness?". No answer and Godric continued, "That's what I thought. Stand down, everyone". Stan's follower released the human and Godric ordered them to go home. Steve begged the crowd not to go, but none of them were stupid enough to stay. Godric shoved Steve from his hold and said, "I dare say my faith in human kind is stronger than yours".
"Come", said Godric. Eric didn't care much of the surrounding. He grabbed Emrys's arms and hauled him behind his back. "Aren't I a little bit old for a piggy back ride?", asked Emrys. "Not with me, although it doesn't mean that the punishment is off. The basement awaits", said Eric. All of them left and went back to Godric's nest. Back there, Emrys's face wound was healed completely and he received subtle nagging from Godric and a little harsh one from Eric.
"I'm sorry, ok? I did what I had to do. Everyone makes mistakes, right?", said Emrys. "Mistakes, I get, but idiotic ones, I can't accept. One week in the dungeon. Understand?!", said Eric. "Yes sir", said Emrys, timidly. "Go to your room, Em. Clean up and come back down afterwards", said Godric. Emrys nodded and left the office, where outside a line of people were waiting to welcome Godric home. On his way, he bumped into Isabel. "Don't get upset. They were worried. I get my fair share of naggings too", said Isabel. "I did what I have to do, as Acting Sheriff", said Emrys. "I know and they understand, but with the loss of Elisabeth and Elsa, I don't think they could afford to lose you", said Isabel. Emrys nodded and went to his room.
He had a nice, decent shower and changed into a pair of jeans, grey V neck shirt and his faux leather jacket. He must've gone long because when he came down, Eric was dragging Hugo away and Isabel ran to the backyards in blood-stain tears. "Women are too emotional", said Stan as he walked right past Emrys. "Do you ever think my mother or grandmother emotional, Stan?", asked Emrys. "Your grandma was like an enthusiastic hippie…; don't tell Godric I said that. Elsa was stronger than Isabel. I hardly seen her cry…, maybe because she was happy with Eric", said Stan. He went to sit at the couch to join his fellow vampire.
Emrys went into the office and Eric was kneeling in front of Godric, trying to persuade him to feed himself. They noticed his presence and Eric got up to examine his face. "I'm fine, dad", said Emrys. Eric kissed his son's forehead and hugged him. "Please don't do anything as stupid as that", said Eric. "I can't promise you that", said Emrys and Eric gave him a side-way look. "Want to extend two weeks of punishment?", Eric asked. Emrys chuckled and said, "Ok, ok, I promised. Jeez, dad, I'm not two". "You're not, but as long as you live under my roof, everything goes by my rules", said Eric. Emrys saluted and grinned. Eric smiled at his son's antics and ruffled the boy's hair.
"The promise has to be double", said Godric. "I will, grandpa. I was just doing what an Acting Sheriff would do", said Emrys. "Don't you mean an inexperience Acting Sheriff?", said Godric. Emrys chuckled and nodded in agreement. Emrys left the office and went to the fridge to get his soda that he hid way behind the fridge. He left the kitchen to see Bill arguing with a woman in a red dress with Sookie by his side. Emrys went to Stan and asked what is going on and Stan said, "That's Compton's maker, Lorena, I think. She's just jealous that Bill chose the telepath over her".
Suddenly, the woman, Lorena pushed Bill away and pinned Sookie to the table, but before she could bite her, Godric interfered by putting her in a choke hold. "Retract your fangs. Now", Godric ordered and she did, "I neither know nor care who you are, but in this area and certainly in this nest, I'm the authority. Do you understand?". "Y-yes, sheriff", said Lorena and Godric released his grip. Godric then, gestured at Sookie as he said, "This human has proven to us to be courageous and loyal friend to our kind, but yet you treat her like a child to a dragon fly; pulling off wings for sports. No wonder they hated us". "She provoked me", said Lorena. "And you provoke me. You disrupted the peace in my own home. I could snap you like a twig, yet I haven't. Now, why is that?", asked Godric.
"Because…, it's your choice", said Lorena. "Indeed it is", said Godric, "You're an old vampire, I can tell. You have hundreds of years to better yourself, yet you haven't. You're still a savage and I fear for all of us, humans and vampires. If this behavior persists…,". He turned to Bill and said, "You seem to know her?". "Yes, sheriff", said Bill. "Escort her from the nest", said Godric. He then turned his attention back to Lorena and said, "I wish you out of my area before dawn". Lorena got up and Bill escorted her out.
Emrys sat next to Stan as they and other vampires were chit chatting over small things, when a human with thick jacket walked in. The blond guy earlier, whom Sookie introduced as her older brother, Jason went to the guy, but he was pushed away and Emrys sensed danger. The man said, "Excuse me, everyone, but could I have your attention please? My name is Luke MacDonald. I'm a member of the Fellowship of the Sun and I have a message for you all, from Reverend Steve Newlin", as he unzipped his jacket and revealed a bomb strapped with silver chain. Luke pressed the button and Emrys had time to hold up his hand and cast a spell…, only he had read the wrong incantation, which could've cost his life.
