Thea sat at her office looking over some of the facts and information she had on sharks. A lot she already knew, but she was hoping to find something to help find the best way of killing off the sharks all together.
"Hey Chief?" said Eric walking into her office, "You got the cost guard on line one."
"Alright thanks," said Thea picking up her phone, "Hello?"
"Hey Thea long time no talk to," said the voice on the other end.
"Hey Daniel how's it going," said Thea, "Oh wait I'm sorry it's Captain Parker now isn't it?"
"Yeah something like that," said Daniel, "Anyway I was really surprised to hear about this so called request for helping you with a shark problem. "I wanted to call personally and see if it was true."
"Oh it's true," Thea assured him, "We got three massive sharks roaming our waters at the moment. They've already gotten four people including my, my mother-in-law. And on the top of that they're being completely over aggressive. They're attacking certain areas that we've never had problems with sharks before. They cost one guy his leg actually."
"I see," said Daniel, "So what do you want us to do?"
"See if you can help us hunt them down and get rid of them," said Thea.
"Well I think I can spare a few men," said Daniel.
"That's great, spear what you can. Every little bit helps," said Thea.
"We'll be there tomorrow," said Daniel.
"I'll have a good briefing for you guys when you get here so you can really understand the situation," Thea promised as she hung up. She gathered up the files and started to make a Mark with a number in what order she wanted them in before carrying them out into the main office.
"Hey who wants to makes some reports for me tomorrow?" she asked. One of the rookies raised his hand. "They should all be in order just number follow the numbers and make about 10 copies of each."
"Sure thing Chief," said the rookie eagerly taking the pictures to make the copies.
"You getting some of the cost guards down here Chief?" asked Eric.
"Yeah that's the plan," said Thea, "Hopefully those last reaming sharks can hold off killing people before all of that."
"Yeah let's hope so," said another officer, "We've been getting a lot of calls from the angry residences over the beaches and docks being closed."
"Keep telling them it shouldn't be too much longer alright?" Thea asked "We're getting help from the cost guard so hopefully it'll be resolved soon."
"Chief what if the cost guard can't help?" asked Eric.
"I don't know," Thea admitted, "But rest assured I will not rest until the remaining three are either dead or far away from here and me!"
"Chief are you sure you don't want any rest at all?" asked Eric, "Like say to be with Joe?" Thea was quiet for a moment, thinking of her poor husband who was still working out the details for his mother's memorial.
"I don't know if I'm the person that should be helping to comfort him at the moment," she said.
She was distracted by the sound of the door opening.
"Chief, I got the autopsy report right here of the latest shark," said Carline.
"Did you find anything interesting?" asked Thea.
"Something," said Carline, "The brain size of this one, it's a bit bigger then most sharks."
"It's bigger?" asked Thea. Carline laid down some of the pictures of two different looking brains. One was clearly bigger then the other.
"This is the average size brain of a regular size great white," said Carline pointing to the smaller picture, "And this is the brain of the one Nick killed. And that's even the weirdest part." She pulled out another set of brain pictures. "I went back and looked over the pictures we got of the shark brain of the baby shark you killed and now that I really look at it it's actually a little bit bigger then it should have been it was just still growing that's all."
"So these sharks are like what smarter then average sharks?" asked Eric.
"They very well could be," said Carline. Thea picked up the pictures and studied them.
"Is that going to be a problem when we attempt to hunt them down?" she asked.
"Well given what's happen so far, we may," said Carline.
"Is there still a way to lure them out?" asked Thea.
"We can try there's no guarantee they won't come back though," said Carline.
"Yeah I know," said Thea, "Listen I'm having some of the cost guard coming tomorrow for a briefing before they start helping us with the shark problem. Would you like to sit in?"
"Sure I'd love to," said Carline, "Just to make sure the sharks aren't given too much of a bad rep."
"Thank you," said Carline, "It starts at 8 in conference room 1," said Thea.
"Sure," said Carline, "Oh by the way how's your husband doing?"
"He's fine," said Thea quickly.
"I would have thought you'd be tacking time off to be with him and his family right now," said Carline.
"Yeah well he doesn't need me at the moment. He's fine," Thea insisted.
"Are you sure about that chief?" asked Eric, "Are you sure you're alright?"
"I'm fine," said Thea storming out of the police station to her squad car.
"Chief, Chief wait," Carline called out after her, "Are you sure you're alright?"
"I'm fine Carline," said Thea, "I'm a cop. You get use to people dying around you like this."
"Even your own family?" asked Carline.
"Carline I assure you I'm fine," said Thea as she drove off.
When she got home she found her husband sitting at the table circling a pencil in circle over and over on a piece of paper.
"What are you doing?" she asked as she walked over to the table and looked over her husband's shoulder at the paper to see it was list of people's names. On it was a big black circle.
"Oh I was just trying to figure out who to invite to the memorial service," said Joe as he stopped tracing his circle.
"Are you brother and sister coming?" asked Thea.
"Yeah they said they'll come in a few days," said Joe.
"Do you know where you'd like to have the funeral?" asked Thea.
"We'd like to have it on the beach since Mom loved the beach so much," said Joe, "Assuming that the beaches will be open by then."
"Well hopefully," said Thea, "I called up Daniel to bring in some of the coast guard to help handle the situation tomorrow."
"Daniel?" said Joe, "You're old college buddy?"
"Yeah that's him," said Thea, "he's promised to round up as many men as he can to help us with
"And as you can see from these photos we've untainted from the latest shark attack the sharks themselves are huge in mass and in size, much more then any regular shark would be. And also it means that the brains are larger as well making them smarter then the average shark," said Thea going through her presentation.
"So what's you're over all expectation for this mission Chief?" asked one of the cost guards.
"Do get rid of the sharks in the area. Whether that means killing them or luring them away from the town then so be as long at they no longer pose a threat to this town," said Thea, "And other questions?"
"How would you like them killed?" asked another. Before Thea answer Carline spoke up.
"As humane as possible; let's not forget they're still animals and my not really understand what it is they're doing that's causing us to fight them."
'Oh I think they know,' thought Thea.
"Alright gentlemen we have our assignments, let's move out," ordered Daniel. The officers immediately got up and headed out with their different packets.
"Thanks again for doing this for us Daniel," said Thea.
"Sure," said Daniel, "I agree a shark problem like this should be dealt with as soon as possible."
"You'll still be humane with them right sir?" asked Carline.
"We'll do our best. That's all we can offer," said Daniel.
"That's all we ask Daniel," said Thea.
"How are you holding up by the way after what happened to your mother-in-law?" asked Daniel.
"I'm fine, so Joe," said Thea, "We're dealing with it as best we can."
"Why aren't you taking time off for it?" asked Daniel.
"I don't need to, I need to hunt down the sharks," said Thea rushing out. She didn't even seem to notice Nick standing near the doorway.
"Man she really wants these sharks," he muttered.
"Nickolas," said Daniel, "Long time no see."
"Hey," said Nick.
"You going to be joining us on this little adventure?" Daniel asked. Nick was quiet for a moment.
"I think I should. I know a lot about sharks so I'm sure I can offer some help," he said.
"This doesn't have anything to do with finding out about your grandfather does it?" Carline asked.
"What?" Daniel asked confused.
"It's nothing," said Nick, "I'll see you at the launch." Then he looked at Carline.
"This has nothing to do with what happened to him. I'm merely doing this to help keep my town and community safe alright?"
"What about that other shark you killed?" Carline asked.
"It was either that or let it kill the chief and her son. It's nothing to be a vendetta," Nick insisted, "The chief has that covered enough for the both of us.
As Thea drove home, she past by the ocean making her looked out her window where she could see the fin of a shark moving around. Thea pulled her car to a stop and tumbled out. She walked to the edge and watch the fin swim around. It almost felt like it was taunting her, trying to lure her into the water to face it.
Thea grabbed for her gun and pointed it at the water.
"Why can't you just go away and leave us all alone?! Why are you so hell bent on revenge that you keep coming after my family! Is it bad enough you took my father, my grandparents and especially my uncle away from me?! But now you have the nerve after all these years to not only come after me but my son too?! What will it take for you to leave me alone?! What, What?!" she shouted towards the fin. The fin however kept swimming around back and forth. Thea could feel herself pulling at the trigger to her gun. She heard the click from it ready to fire it. However at the last second she stopped herself and put it back away into its holster. "You won't get me you hear!" she still shouted towards it. "This is one Brody you'll never get your jaws on!"
