Summer Blake: The Demon Slayer
Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler Fanfiction
An Unexpected Result
"Do you think she will ever wake up?" Cian said, looking to the girl who laid on the bed passed out. They had returned about a week ago to their own time and Summer had been unconscious ever since. He ran straight to Jasper's place with her in his arms, fearing she wouldn't make it.
The Watcher was shocked to see they had returned, but was even more surprised to find his ward in her current state. The young demon explained the situation while the man went straight to work, pulling out assortments of different ingredients from his cases.
The first night had been rough and they didn't think she was going to make it through, but the girl had a stubborn soul as usual. Once Jasper managed to purify the poison from her body and get her slayer healing abilities to kick in, she was in the clear. Now her body was just working overtime to reserve the damage that was done.
"Yeah, anytime soon she should be up and about." Jasper replied, smiling. "Just give her time to rest. She almost died."
The blonde demon sighed, crossing his arms. He had been by her side non-stop. It couldn't be helped, he loved her...but that was another story for another time.
Jasper sat down on a stool and his usual smile that lit his face fell, a deadly serious look on his face. This caused Cian to tense up. "So, what exactly happened that you're not telling me?"
The two guys didn't notice the girl before them that was starting to open her eyes. She felt groggy and disoriented, like she didn't exactly belong in the world, more than usual. But those green eyes were opened and looked to the two guys sitting beside her. They were obviously busy in their own conversation. "J-Jasper..." She managed to say, shocked to see him, but also relieved.
And just like that the Watcher's serious aura suddenly became happy and cheerful, turning to give Summer a smile. "I"m glad to see you're awake now. You gave us quite the scare, Summer."
She sat up in the bed looking around and realized they were back home. The view outside the window was modern with all the shops, cars and signs lighting up the place telling people were to go and when to walk. Some people where on their phones. Looking around her own room, she spotted out all the modern things like the TV and computer. It was far different from the usual she had been waking up to lately. She was happy to be home, but yet found herself missing some of the differences between the two eras.
"I see we're back in the 21st century." She mumbled, looking up to them. "Feels weird, but yet so normal."
Cian walked over to her. "How ya feeling?"
Summer raised her arms and stretched, surprised to find herself feeling normal and so much better. It was like the whole incident with Claude didn't even happen. As if it was all just a dream... "I-I feel better actually." She replied, but had to ask, "What happened?"
"You were dying..." Cian said, avoiding her gaze out of shame. "When Claude injured you, he put a injected a demonic slow acting poison into your body and it was finally taking it's corse."
Of course, she remembered fighting with Claude and the others. Her back was stinging like crazy and she felt highly nauseous, maybe even a bit dizzy too. "Yeah, I remember. But please tell me I at least managed to kill him?"
"Yes, you did."
She let out a sigh of relief. "So that means Alois' soul is free then? How is he doing? How are the others?"
Cian seemed like he was being put under the spotlight, which made Summer question. The demon managed to give her a small smile. "They are all okay."
"Ahem." Jasper cleared his throat, changing the subject of the conversation. "What about me, missy? I am your guardian and you owe me an explanation! You have been gone for the past 6 weeks and had me worried sick out of my wits."
"But didn't Cian-"
"Yes, he did explain a little of what happened. However, I want your side of the story! I am owed that much." He pointed out, causing Summer to sit back in defeat. "Why were you sent back to the Victorian Era of all places? Let alone, how did you get there in the first place?"
"The grim reapers. They said I had a mission there and sent me." She told him.
"What was your mission?" Jasper asked.
Summer shrugged. "They didn't tell me and to be honest, I think they didn't really know themselves. I just had to go back and figure it out." A smile came to her face thinking about the friends she made while there, especially Alois. "I think I was meant to save a soul, ya know, the usual."
"So you completed your mission then?"
"Yeah, I think so." She replied. Now that she thought about it, there wasn't really a reason for her to go back now. She had saved Alois from a broken contract and that was all she could really think of that seemed off there. Granted, Ciel was in a contract with Sebastian, but the demon already proved he would stick strong to it. His soul was already sold for. But what about the Midfords? They were so kind to her and Summer was enjoying learning from Francis.
A smile lit up Jasper's face again. "Good, then let's put this conversation behind us and forget this whole thing. The most important matter at hand is you're back home now and safe and sound."
Summer looked over to the Victorian dress that laid on her chair. "Y-Yeah...that's true." For some reason, it didn't sit well with her.
Jasper and Cian had gone to leave her alone and let her get use to her surroundings once again. Summer took off the outfit she was wearing and put on a fresh one. In doing so she noticed the huge scar marks all along her back where Claude had marked her. They were healed and closed up now, but the scars would remain there for quite awhile. A constant reminder.
Summer sighed, grabbing her phone and flopped onto her bed. She was surprised when the screen lit up and showed a couple of messages she was missing when the phone mysteriously disconnected from being back there.
She checked on the one voicemail left behind: "Hey Summer, it's Diana from the DNA analyst lab and I'm calling back to let you know the results finally came in. However, you might want to come here in person before we tell you over the phone. We will see you soon, bye!"
Pulling the phone away from her ear, she looked surprised, wondering what could be up. Why couldn't they just tell her over the phone?
A month before she ended up getting sent to the Victorian era, Summer had gone to get a DNA test done. She didn't let Cian or even Jasper know mostly because the guys would try to stop her and reassure her that all she needed was right here. But she wanted to know who her family was and just know more about herself in general. She lived as the mysterious orphan girl for far too long.
It was time for answers she had been wanting.
Once she gathered her stuff together, Summer sneaked out through the backdoor of the house and made a run for it. However, the guys she was avoiding to alert were in fact alerted.
Jasper sighed, sitting at the kitchen table reading the paper. "She snuck out again, didn't she?" It didn't even faze him now.
Cian nodded. "Yeah. Want me to follow after her?"
"Yeah. Make sure she doesn't get herself hurt again."
Making her way to into the building, Summer was greeted by Diana who led her into a room. They both sat down and that was when a guy came through the door with old, dusty files. It caused question to raise in Summer.
"Sorry, we couldn't tell you this news over the phone. It's usually better if we do it in person, especially with a shocking case like this one."
"What do you mean?" Summer asked, feeling her heart race. She just wanted to know already. The anticipation was getting to her.
Diana sighed. "You're related to an old English family called the Phantomhive's." Summer's eyes went wide and her breath hitched. "They were better known working for the queen as 'The Queen's Watchdog.'" Diana grabbed some of the records. "Now, what little info we have on them doesn't tell us too much. Maybe the queen would know more...but the bloodline ends with you." No, this couldn't be. Summer just couldn't believe this. "You are the last remaining survivor of the bloodline."
"A-are you sure?" Summer asked, feeling the adrenaline making her shaky. "Maybe you got the test wrong or something? Mixed it up with someone else or-"
"No, we got the right one. We took plenty of samples of your blood, skin and hair just to test all boundaries, as requested from the Queen herself." Diana told her. "You are a Phantomhive."
Maybe a strand of Ciel's hair got into the test somehow? No, that wasn't possible. She had the test done long before she ended up going there. Summer just couldn't believe this. Maybe that's why she was sent to the Victorian era and perfectly into the hands of Ciel? Was that the mission?
"Thank you, but I have to go see someone." Summer said, jolting up and running out the door, not even waiting to see what else Diana had to say. Maybe Ronald could answer the questions she had that have now just grown more. He should know the truth.
