Chapter 11: Unknown

This is the chapter where different relationships will take on a different kind of twist. I hope you like it. Please leave reviews/advice!

I tried to open my eyes against the bright fluorescent lights, but as soon as I tried, I was immediately put under again. Some one was always there, ready at any given time to stab another needle into my arm. This is how it was for days on end, until finally, one day I was allowed to open my eyes. I blinked against the harsh light and moaned. Every part of me ached and throbbed. My arm was bandaged almost up to my elbow and my wrist was bruised and in a brace. I also felt a bump on my head and my hands were covered in scratches from me digging my nails into them. I moaned again and turned my head to the side. Sprawled across the couch and two chairs were my friends; Sarah, Hillary, Michelle, Caitlin and Haley. All five of them were in a dead sleep. I peered at the clock on the wall…it was three a.m. I sighed. I'm finally aloud to wake up and there's no one to talk to. I snuggled down deeper into my blankets. The hospital bed was not the most comfortable bed on Earth, but the blankets were warm and the hospital gown wasn't so bad. The walls of the room were a calming blue paper and there was a TV in the corner. I considered turning it on but didn't want to wake up the girls. I sighed as I lay there processing my situation, then I realized I was very hungry. Starving actually. I guessed that I probably haven't eaten for at least three days. I pressed the nurses button and within two minutes a nurse bustled into the room.

"I see they finally let you up. My name is Angela and I'll be the one taking care of your every wish." She said with a warm, motherly smile. At the sound of the nurses voice, Sarah twisted upright and opened her eyes. They widened with surprise as she smiled at my very awake state.

"Welcome back Sleeping Beauty." She threw a pillow at Michelle's head. "You guys wake up. Liza is back from the dead!" Michelle groaned and threw the pillow at Caitlin. As they slowly woke up, my nurse asked, "Do you need anything?"

"Welll…um…I'm kind of hungry?" I stated it as a question rather as a fact. She smiled back at me. "Of course you are. What would you like?"

"Anything edible and warm." I answered enthusiastically. As she hurried out of the room I noticed my friends were wide eyed and attentive and staring at me as if I were a different species.

"What?"

"You're awake…" Caitlin yawned.

"Well duh…way to point out the obvious." Hillary pointed out.

"So what did I miss?" I asked. They exchanged a sideways glance. "What?" I asked again, this time panicking slightly.

"It's ok hon…relax. Things are more than great for you at the moment."

"Yeah…he hasn't left your bedside for almost the entire time you've been out."

"And he doesn't even know you."

"Talk about adorable."

"What are you guys talking about?! Wait…he? Do you mean…?" I asked, hopeful.

"No Liza. Not Rylie. Ty. After you passed out he knocked that creep off of you." Michelle explained. I was thoroughly confused now.

"Who the hell are you talking about? What creeper? Are you talking about Danny?" I was really starting to get pissed off that I was not in on the secret.

"Ty, Liza! Ty! Remember him? The boy who knocked into you the first day of school? After you passed out he came over and knocked that guy off you and unconscious. He was crying too and he hasn't left the hospital since you've been here." Hillary nearly shouted, exasperated with my ignorance. She explained to me the details of what happened and the pieces slowly came together. I got flashes of that horrible night. I shook my head, trying to rid the images from my mind and my brows creased in confusion.

"Where are my parents? Do they know?"

"Yeah of course they know. They're at home now since we're here but they'll be back later. Your mom is highly suspicious of him by the way. We gave her the gist of things but she's gonna want the details…" Sarah trailed off. I leaned back into my pillow and sighed. Just then the nurse brought in my food. I gave her a feeble smile and thanked her, waited until she left, then slowly lifted a small bite of egg to my mouth. How was I going to explain to my mother something I hardly knew about myself? From Hillary's explanation, it seemed like this Ty kid was pretty attached, but I didn't even know him. My love life sure was messed up. As if answering my thoughts, Michelle suddenly blurted, "Liza…I know you're not to sure about Ty…but he's crazy about you. You haven't seen him these past few days. He's been a wreck. He sits by your bed staring at you and he asked us to call him if you woke up when he wasn't here." My eyes widened at this but she held up her hands in surrender and continued,

"We didn't call him right away cause we knew that would probably creep you out. But we are going to have to tell him you're awake eventually."

"He would probably be pretty pissed if he came today and we were sitting in here having a jolly ole time." Caitlin added. I dropped my fork onto the tray and closed my eyes. What was happening? I pondered this and couldn't help but remember a small, minute detail. Right before the man had taken me into the hallway, I had looked at Ty. I know I had. I felt that pull that was impossible to resist and his face was emblazoned behind my eyelids. I picked my head up and opened my eyes.

"What time is he coming?"

"At…nine o' clock. Don't worry," Sarah said. "it's only five in the morning now. You've still got four more hours to mentally prepare yourself for his gorgeousness."

"You would." Hillary laughed, rolling her eyes.

The time passed by way to fast for my liking and before I knew it, it was 8:30. I couldn't force down anymore food, so I tried talking to the girls about what I had missed. It was no use; I started hyperventilating. Michelle and Hillary noticed. Hillary took my face in her hands and stared into my eyes.

"Stop. Relax. Breathe." I tried my hardest to erase the lines of worry in my face and took a deep breathe. Apparently I had forgotten how to breathe.

"Now let it out!" I obeyed; letting my breath out in a rush.

"Chica…don't worry. There's something different about him." Michelle reassured me from the end of my bed. It was a good thing Hillary had reminded me how to breath because the door opened slowly, and I, expecting my mother or a nurse, was shocked when the most strikingly beautiful human being entered my room. Michelle and Hillary slid off my bed and out of the room, taking the others with them. I whimpered and Hillary imitated breathing before shutting the door. After concentrating for a good thirty seconds on breathing, I looked back into the face of that Botticelli angel sitting a mere four feet away. As his puzzled eyes met mine, I was struck with that sense of urgency again; the irresistible pull of gravity toward him.

"Why?" I asked quietly. His lips pulled at the corners into a tiny smile.

"I…don't. Know." He answered in a whisper also. "You feel it too?"

I nodded. I cocked my head to the side and studied his angelic face. Something in the depths of his eyes told me that he wasn't telling me everything.
