Author's Note: Several people asked who was given a soul in the last chapter, despite that I mentioned who not only in the last chapter (all though the mention could have been vague, if it was it wasn't intentional) but also in an earlier chapter when Buffy went to Ms. Calendar and asked her to train Willow and start researching the ensoullment spell. The answer is Spike. Do not though expect him to show up right away though helping Buffy. He will have issues to work through first. Such as being a soulless vampire for over a hundred years and killing a lot of people.

Chapter 10: Killed by Death

Buffy had driven to L.A. and now knelt before her cousin Celia's grave. "I've missed you, Celia. A lot."

'Tell her I missed her, too,' Dawn said.

"She won't know who you even are, Dawnie," Buffy said.

'I know that,' Dawn said. 'But I remember her sorta. I remember more about mom talking about her than actually her since I would have been two when she died.'

Buffy nodded in agreement. She remembered when they had been looking through the photo album and Dawn, who would have been eight at the time if she had been created then, had asked Buffy and Joyce who Celia was when they found her picture in the album. She remembered leaving the room in tears as Joyce told Dawn about Celia. Even today her cousin's death still affected her. It was why she hated staying in hospitals.

"You don't know her," Buffy said. "But my baby sister, whose body won't be created for a couple years, misses you also. Her name is Dawn. When I fell into the Hellmouth, she was pulled into a portal. We're not sure why. But the Powers That Be stuck her in my head till her body is created. You would have liked her a lot, Celia."

"I know I would."

Buffy looked up and turned around to find a teenage young woman standing before her.

"Who …" Buffy started.

"Who am I?" the girl asked as Buffy nodded. "I know this is not the body you would recognize." As Buffy watched her body got younger and younger till it flowed into one Buffy did recognize. "Now?"

"Celia?" Buffy asked as Celia nodded. "How?"

"I'm a ghost," Celia said as she passed her hand through a nearby tombstone. She then morphed back into the teenage visage. "For everything you went through both now and in your original timeline. The Powers decided to give you a small gift. Me. Though its' just for this moment, once you step foot out of the cemetery I will go back to heaven. I've missed you too, Buffy. And I've missed Dawn. I do know of her, from the original timeline. What you do down here, doesn't affect us up there."

"Oh, Celia," Buffy said as a tear escaped her eye.

"I know," Celia said

'Tell her,' Dawn said, 'I wish I could have gotten to know her.'

"You can talk to me directly, Dawn," Celia said. "I can hear you just fine."

'You can?' Dawn asked.

Celia nodded. "Yes." She waved her hand and Dawn formed beside her.

"Do I …" Dawn started.

"No you're still in Buffy's mind," Celia said. "But now she can see you. You will just be a ghost till your body is created. And only she will be able to see you just like only she can hear you."

Dawn smiled as she looked at Buffy who returned the smile.

"It's good to see you, Dawnie," Buffy said.

Buffy, Dawn and Celia talked for hours just reminiscing.

"So Celia," Dawn said. "Why do you look like a teenage since you …"

"Died when I was eight?" Celia asked as Dawn nodded. "This is what I would have looked like if I had grown up. And up there we can be of any age we want. I chose to age myself alongside Buffy." She looked to Buffy. "I've always watched over you. And when Dawn was created I watched over her. And I will continue to watch over you both till the day you join me, hopefully this time when you're both old ladies."

Buffy smiled.

"It is time to go," Celia said. "You have to slay my killer. Since you are not sick this time, watch Dawn. She will be able to see him and will be able to direct your actions. That is why she has been given a ghostly presence."

They walked toward the entrance to the cemetery and just inside the gate, Celia stopped. "I can go no farther," she said. "Remember, I'm watching over you, always."

"I love you, Celia," Buffy and Dawn said together.

"And I love the two of you," Celia said as Buffy and Dawn left the cemetery. And then she turned and vanished.

Buffy drove back to Sunnydale and straight to the hospital. She stopped at a payphone and called first her mother to let her know she was back. Then she called Giles to let him know what she was doing.

She then walked down the hall and into the children's ward. "Dawn?"

'I see him,' Dawn said. 'He is standing five feet in front of you. Do you remember how you killed him before?'

"Yes," Buffy said. "I snapped his neck. But I could also see him."

'I have an idea,' Dawn said. 'Since you can see me now. What if I stood right where he is? You throw your punches trying to hit me and will be hitting him.'

"I'm not so …" Buffy said, trying to object to Dawn's plan.

'We don't have time to argue,' Dawn replied as she moved to stand five feet in front of Buffy.

"You make me sick," Buffy said to the demon as her mind morphed her sister into the demon. "It's because of you my cousin died. So I owe you a world of pain." She swung at Dawn and hit something solidly knocking it backwards.

Buffy ran around the demon and leapt onto its back. The demon flipped her off and she heard something snarl as she was pinned to the floor. She smirked, she has the demon right where she wants him. She knew that for him to suck the life out of her his head had to be just above hers. She reached up …

"And the winner is ..." Buffy said as she snapped its neck, killing it. It fell on top of her and she dumped it to the ground and stood up.

'Way to go, Buffy,' Dawn said Buffy looked up at her. 'What?'

"How could you see it?" Buffy asked not realizing she could still see the demon. "Seriously, if you're in my mind you and I couldn't …"

'Because you could see it,' Dawn said. 'Think for a moment, Buffy. How could you see it the first time? Why can you see me now when you couldn't before? Why can you still see it?'

Buffy frowned and then looked down as she saw the demon and realized she had seen it the entire time. "I'm sick."

'Yes,' Dawn said. 'It's why you can see me now. Your mind is creating a visual representation to help you through the illness. A comforting factor.'

Buffy smiled. "Thank you."

'Thank yourself,' Dawn said. 'You allowed you to see me.'

The next week Buffy called Angel and got his help to help with the spirit of James find peace.

Then she called the cops and told them the coach was giving his swim team steroids in the steam room's steam. After testing the swim time they found agreed with the sentiment. The swim team ended up being benched for the rest of the season and luckily not one of them turned into fish monsters.

Just before Summer Break, Giles got a call from Sam Zabuto in Jamaica.

"Rupert Giles," Giles said into the phone.

"Sam Zabuto," Kendra's watcher said. "I am sorry to inform you this. But on her way to patrol my Slayer, Kendra was killed."

"How?" Giles asked.

"Kendra was shot by a mugger when she told him she didn't have anything to give him."

"Oh my," Giles said. "That's terrible. My condolences."

"Thank you."

Giles hung up the phone just as Buffy entered the library. "Kendra's watcher just called."

"So how is my sister slayer?" Buffy asked.

"She died," Giles said. "In a mugging."

"She was trying to stop a …?"

Giles shook his head. "No. A mugger wanted all her money and jewelry and when she told him she didn't have either, he killed her."

Buffy sighed and looked down as she shed a tear for Kendra. She then looked up at Giles. "Will there be a funeral?"

Giles nodded. "The Council will have one for her. In fact her parents will likely be in attendance."

"I want to go," Buffy said.

"Buffy," Giles said. "That's admirable. But …"

"I know I will have to get mom's approval," Buffy said. "Because it's probably in Jamaica."

Giles nodded.

That night Buffy explained things to her mom and Joyce gave her permission and helped Buffy to get her passport for the trip. Two days later Buffy stood next to a Jamaican couple who had been introduced to her as Mr. and Mrs. Young. The only other people there was Kendra's Watcher, Giles, Joyce and a couple of other Watcher's sent from the Council, among them Travers.

"…we commend to almighty God our sister Kendra Young and we commit her body to the ground. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless her and keep her, the Lord makes his face to shine upon her and be gracious to her, the Lord lift up his countenance upon her and give her peace. Amen."

"Amen," Buffy said.
