Time for the Marauders Map scene. I'm adding a bit of the movie in because I can't remember some moments in the book. Also I'm shortening the conversation between Fudge, McGonagall, and Hagrid.

Chapter 11: Attack on a Painting

Part 1 Ron

Ron really didn't want to tell Harry about his broom. But he would've found out eventually. After Harry discovered the truth, he seemed to get really depressed. The odd thing was that Harry wasn't as depressed as Ron figured he would be, he was depressed sure, but not about the Nimbus.

Winter finally set in, and with it snow, but it wasn't just Christmas that everyone was getting excited about, the second Hogsmede visit was also coming. On the day of the visit Percy got a letter from a Screech Owl.

"Who's it from?" Jason asked.

"My mom," Percy answered, "she's asking if I'm coming back for Christmas."

The only time in the school year that people got to go home was Christmas.

"Are you?" Hermione asked.

"I'm not sure," Percy said. "What about you guys?"

"No, I'm going to your house for Christmas!" Leo said.

"Leo!" Jason shouted in an annoyed voice as Ron, Percy, Leo, and Harry laughed.

After eating, Ron, Hermione, Percy, Jason, and Leo all went to the Gryffindor Common Room to get dressed for the trip. Harry insisted that everyone go.

"I'll be fine." He said for about the fifth time, "Nothing's going to happen."

Seeing that no one was going to get anywhere arguing, the five of them met up with Annabeth, Piper, Frank, and Hazel and joined the crowd heading to Hogsmede. The wind was in their faces the whole walk, so by the time they arrived, Ron's face felt like it was going to fall off.

"Whoa." Percy said when he saw Hogsmede.

"Where should we go first?" Annabeth's muffled voice came from behind her scarf.

"Honeydukes" Ron said instantly, as he could smell the sweets shop.

"No, let's go to The Three Broomsticks," Hermione said "It'll be warm in there."

The need for warmth outdid Ron's growling stomach.

They trudged through the snow to the pub. It was packed as always, but they managed to find a table large enough to fit the nine of them.

Ron walked up to the bar counter and ordered nine Butterbeers, one of the best drinks Ron ever had, and sat down and passed them out.

"What is this stuff?" Percy asked as he took his mug.

"Butterbeer." Ron said simply

They all drank up as they made their plan for what they'd due to make the best of the day. First they'd head to Honeydukes to pick up some sweets for the nine of them and Harry.\, next they'd head to the Shrieking Shack, the most haunted building in Britain, and they'd end the day by heading to Zonko's Joke Shop, which seemed to be Leo's favorite. They paid the tab and set off onto the street. They were only a few meters away when someone behind Ron said 'Psst."

Ron looked behind him but no one was there.

"Hey!" a voice said to Ron's left.

"Umm," Leo said "did that lamppost just 'hey' us?"

Suddenly someone tapped Ron's shoulder, making him jump at least four feet out of his skin.

"BLOODY HELL!" he yelled in shock.

A very familiar laugh came from thin air.

"Harry?" Hermione asked the empty space.

For a brief moment, Harry's head, grinning ear to ear, appeared and then vanished.

"You almost gave me a heart-attack, mate!" Ron gasped.

"How'd you do that?" Piper asked.

"Invisibility Cloak." Harry explained, "It was my dad's."

"Hey, Annabeth has a hat like that." Percy said.

"Really?" Harry's voice asked.

"Yeah," Annabeth answered, "but it was my mom's…"

"That doesn't matter!" Hermione interrupted, "Harry what are you doing here?"

"Same thing as you." Harry said simply, "And I'd keep my voice down if I was you, you'll attract too much attention."

"Harry," Hermione scolded while bringing her voice down, "If you get caught, you'll get in a lot of trouble."

"That's only if someone tells." Ron pointed out, "Are you Hermione?"

"But what if Black comes here?"

"He'd have to get through us."

"Oh, right. The mass killer who murdered a dozen people with a single curse versus eight thirteen year-olds and a twelve year-old, he stands no chance."

"Hey!" Hazel complained, "I'll be turning thirteen in a few days!"

"Actually, Annabeth interrupted, "He'd also have worry about all these people seeing him. Not to mention he'd have to see Harry to kill him."

"Exactly." Ron agreed, though he shut up when Annabeth looked at him. Despite the cold, his cheeks and ears felt hot.

"Fine!" Hermione cried with exasperation, "But if Harry gets caught, don't say I didn't warn you."

They kept walking so they didn't attract any more attention than they already had.

"So how'd you sneak out here anyway?" Jason asked.

"Fred and George gave me this map." Harry answered.

A piece of parchment materialized and landed in Jason's hand. Next Harry's wand appeared and tapped it.

"I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good." Harry's voice recited.

The parchment began to cover itself with lines, once it was done, the Words "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, Purveyors of Aides to Magical Mischief Makers are proud to present the Marauder's Map" formed at the top of the parchment.

"The Marauder's Map?" Jason asked as he flipped through the pages. It was a map of Hogwarts, and it had dots with names over them, one in the Gryffindor read Ginny Weasley.

"Harry you should turn that map in." Hermione said in a worried tone.

"Why?" Ron asked, shocked.

"Well it was Fred and George who gave it to him," Hermione pointed out, "It may be a prank."
"It led me out here didn't it?" Harry said.

"Where should we go?" Percy interrupted, probably trying to stop an argument before it started.

"Let's head back to The Three Broomsticks." Annabeth suggested.

"Why?" Piper asked "We were already there."

"Yeah, but we're walking in circles."

Sure enough, they were right in front of the pub again.

"Good point." Ron said, though it was mainly to get somewhere warm. He led the way into the pub while the others sat back down in the same table they were just sitting at, Ron walked up to the Bar.

Madam Rosmerta, the attractive owner of The Three Broomsticks, looked up at him.

"Didn't you leave a few minutes ago?" she asked

"Uh…" Ron began.

Hermione had been teasing Ron for weeks, claiming that he fancied Madam Rosmerta, which he didn't. But every time she looked at him, he acted the same way he did around Annabeth.

"It's too cold outside." Percy said, almost materializing next to Ron. Ron gave him a thankful smile.

"I can understand that." Madam Rosmerta replied, "Of course, those bloody Dementors aren't helping much." She glared at a notice hammered to the wall.

Ron walked over and looked at the notice, in cursive it read:
To all costumers of The Three Broomsticks.

Due to the escape of Sirius Black, Dementors shall patrol the streets at night. It is advised that you stay in your homes until their patrols are over. Merry Christmas!

"That must be bad for business." Ron muttered. When he returned to the table, ten Butterbeers were sitting on it. Harry had taken off his invisibility cloak.

"Hey Ron," Leo said with a mischievous grin, "Real smooth, did you get her number?"

Ron sat down with his ears going red, everyone laughed.

"Hey, who's the dude in the bowler hat?" Percy asked.

Ron looked in the direction Percy was looking.

"Bloody Hell," Ron exclaimed, "That's Fudge!"
The Minister of Magic himself walked into the pub. He met with Professor McGonagall, Hagrid and Madam Rosmerta. Harry quickly threw on his cloak.

"Fudge?" Percy asked, almost laughing.

"The Minister of Magic." Harry's voice said from under his cloak.

"Good afternoon Minister." Hagrid said friendly, though it was somewhat strained. Ron knew why, last year, he had been imprisoned in Azkaban.

"Hello, Hagrid," Fudge replied, "How are you?"

"Fine.

"Why are you here, Minister?" Madame Rosmerta asked.

"You don't sound like you're in a good mood." The Minister said.

"Well maybe if you stopped sending Dementors into my pub every night I would be."

"It's just a precaution, Black could be hiding here."

"Why would Black be in Hogsmeade?"

"Harry Potter."
"Harry Potter?"

"Yes," Professor McGonagall interrupted, "Black is after Potter."

"Why's he after Harry anyway?" Hagrid asked.

"Well twelve years ago," McGonagall began, "when the Potters went into hiding, they made Black their secret keeper."

"Why would they do that?" Madame Rosmerta asked, shocked.

"At the time they thought that he could be trusted," Fudge explained, "But almost the moment he became it, he ran off to You-Know-Who and told him where to find them."

"Then Peter Pettigrew, do you remember Peter?"

"I think so," Madame Rosmerta replied, "Didn't he always follow James around?"

"Yes that's him, anyway, he found out and went to warn the Potters, but sadly Black found out."

"An' he killed 'im." Hagrid finished.

"No, Black wasn't so merciful," Fudge spat, "Black destroyed him, all that was left was a finger."

Ron was shocked, he knew Black was a vicious murderer, but not that vicious.

"And, for absolutely no reason at all, killed a dozen muggles with a single curse."

That Ron did know.

"Then he told You-Know-Who." Madame Rosmerta said sadly, "I can see why he was in Azkaban."

"Yes," Fudge muttered, "you know, I met Black in Azkaban, but he didn't seem mad at all."

"How could he not be?" Hagrid asked, "I almos' went mad there."

"I don't know, he even asked me if he could read the Daily Prophet I had."

"Really?" Professor McGonagall asked.

"Yes."

"So what yer sayin'," Hagrid said, "Is that he's after Harry to finish the job?"

"More than likely." Fudge answered

"That's not the worst part," McGonagall said darkly, "Black was, and still is, Potter's Godfather."

Part 2. Leo

Leo didn't know what was worse, the fact Harry's Godfather was a mass killer who wanted to kill him, or trying to reach the school before anyone noticed Harry was missing.

When they learned the shocking truth, Hermione wisely choice this as the right time to return to the castle. To avoid suspicion, Annabeth had Leo and Percy meet Harry by the statue that was the secret passage.

On the way there, Leo couldn't stop thinking about Black. How could a guy who was made a godfather by his friends betray them? He also wondered how Harry was taking it.

They reached the statue, no one was there.

"Where's Harry?" Leo asked.

Suddenly, the hump of the witch opened and Harry stepped out.

"Wow, right on cue."

They walked down to the Great Hall the rest had made it.

The meal went along quietly and the next thing Leo knew, he was walking up to the Common Room.

Most of the way there, the line stopped.

"What's going on?" Leo asked.

"I don't know…" Jason replied.

"Annabeth appeared almost out of nowhere.

"Why'd you guys stop?" She asked.

At the front of the line, Ron's brother Percy shouted, "Get the head master, now!"

Leo exchanged looks with Jason and began fighting his way through the crowd. When he finally reached the front of the line he saw what was causing all of the trouble.

Where the Fat Lady once was, was a torn canvas.

Professor Dumbledore walked up and examined the canvas.

"We need to find her." He muttered.

"You'll be lucky." A voice Leo recognized said.

Peeves the Poltergeist floated over the crowd. Leo did NOT like him; he always found ways to drive Leo nuts.

"What do you mean Peeves?" Dumbledore asked.

"She's ashamed Headmaster, ran all the way to the second floor in tatters," Peeves paused to cackle, "Poor thing."

"Who did this?"

"He became angry when she wouldn't let him in because he didn't have the password. Nasty temper he's got, that Sirius Black.

Part 3: Hermione

Hermione stared up at the Great Hall's ceiling. She had been told to go to sleep, but couldn't. The starry ceiling above her brought back memories of the times she went camping with her parents, but while that relaxed her, the knowledge that Black was somewhere in the castle kept her eyes wide open.

She had heard Professors Dumbledore and Snape discussing the possibility that someone on the inside let Black in. While Professor Snape believed that someone had, Professor Dumbledore didn't.

She started wondering if she'd ever sleep when she heard voices.

"If they hear us…" Said a voice that sounded like Hazel's in a worried tone.

"I know," snapped Annabeth's voice, "but we need to think up a strategy."

They didn't seem to notice Hermione eavesdropping. Then again, no one seemed to notice them talking.

"Can't we in the morning?" yawned Leo.

"No Leo." Jason replied

"I agree with Annabeth." Percy said, "Since Black's in the castle, the game's changed."

"How DID he get in anyway?" Piper asked, "I thought the school was protected."

"Wizards," Percy said, "they can turn a teacup into a mouse, but they can't even use intruder alarms."

This confused Hermione; Percy had said "Wizards" like he wasn't one.

"Be quiet Seaweed Brain!" Annabeth hissed, "Or someone WILL hear us."

"Sorry." He hissed back.

"I'm personally surprised that no one here can see through the Mist." Frank muttered.

"What?" Leo asked, "Where'd that come from."

"Well, the wizards aren't exactly Mortals. I thought we see more clear-sighted wizards."

"Well so far," Jason said, "Harry's the only one."

"That's kind of ironic," Leo said, "Harry wears glasses, yet he's clear-sighted."

"Let's get back on topic." Annabeth interrupted. "Figuring out how Black got in."

"Could he have used a tunnel?" Hazel asked.

"Maybe," Percy replied, "If only we had a map like Harry's.

Annabeth then cursed in a language that sounded like Ancient Greek.

"What?" Piper asked in a shocked tone.

"What if he got in the same way Harry got out?"

There was a pause for the moment.

"Maybe…" Jason muttered.

"Oh no…" Hazel, moaned, "Someone's coming."

"We'll finish this up tomorrow." Percy said.

Hermione didn't hear anything else.

Hermione just couldn't wrap her mind around it. Percy talking about wizards as if he wasn't one, Annabeth saying something in ancient Greek, the "Mist", and being "Clear-Sighted.

Only one question plagued her What does it all mean?

Bet you didn't expect a part 3!

Looks like Hermione's starting to figure things out. Do you think she'll figure out their secret?

P.S My internet's down so I won't be able to post again until School gets back in after Spring Break. See you than :D
