The car pulled into the garage, Violeta and Evan both getting out. She didn't bother grabbing the equipment. "Alright, I'll come get you tomorrow. Have to take you somewhere but for the time being just go rest. You did good today." She nodded once and rubbed his upper back with her right hand.
"Thanks." He said that as casually as he could but felt sick to his stomach. He walked through the door that led to the main room of the facility, making his way back to his own room where he could be alone.
Once Evan made it, he quickly closed the door behind him. Sure enough, Rosa was sleeping near the bottom of the bed.
Though she woke up quickly from the ruckus that she heard, her ears perking as she saw her owner. Rosa could tell that something was wrong with Evan, the worry apparent in her eyes.
He laid down on his side next to Rosa and immediately wrapped his arms around her slim sides, then burying his face into her fur and silently crying into it.
Rosa kept completely still, only watching him while she draped her right paw over his shoulder. There wasn't much she could do but Rosa knew she wasn't useless to him. She leaned down and gave his cheek a light lick with her tongue as she was held tightly by him.
It took Evan five minutes to begin calming down, he pulled away from the wet spot he'd made in Rosa's fur and sighed. "I killed him Rosa.." She knew that though, it was only a matter of time before he had to go off and actually do it. "Did he deserve it? Probably...but I took it from him, I took his life. I'm supposed to feel like I helped this region just a little, but I don't. I just feel guilt." Evan's eyes began to water again as he spoke but he refrained from letting his condition get any worse. "I don't want to do it anymore, but I still have that feeling inside of me. A feeling of hatred that wants me to kill every single last one of them for killing one person that meant a thousand lives to me." He shook his head, feeling as though he sounded like a murderer from saying that. Even though he did kill someone earlier. Evan didn't say anything else, he just laid down again next to Rosa and wrapped his right arm around her side.
Rosa now curled up next to him, hoping she was helping him as much as she wanted to.
Evan fell asleep quickly, tired from his day and of his continous crying. He woke up a few hours later, it was a bit over midnight. Rosa now laying on her back, her front paws outstretched which caused Evan to slightly grin, but it quickly faded as his recent memories began to flood back. The image of the man in the blue shirt falling over, again and again because Evan had put a bullet in him. He couldn't just forget the image he had seen through his scope. He probably wouldn't ever forget that. Maybe he just had to stop being so sensitive to this, he didn't have a choice anyway right? Evan was stuck with this organization for a while. He sighed and laid his head on Rosa's chest, listening to her steady heartbeat which helped him fall back asleep, he woke up again while it was coming up on dawn. This time wondering where Violeta was going to take him, there were no knocks at the door so he figured that Violeta was letting him recover instead of forcefully waking him up again. Evan hoped it wasn't anything he couldn't deal with in his current state. He stayed in bed for a few more hours, holding Rosa and falling asleep again.
That dreaded knock ended up waking him out of his sleep and Evan knew it was Violeta. He quietly got out of bed, being cautious as not to wake Rosa and opening the door once he'd gotten to it.
"Come on." Violeta said this nonchalantly while she stood in front of the door. Luckily Evan was still fully dressed. He took a glance back at Rosa as she slept before walking out and closing the door behind him.
"Where are we going?" Evan asked and walked next to her, he just wanted to be alone for the most part.
"Just to see the boss guy." Violeta sighed, she had to mean Sill.
Evan thought something was off about him, it was a pretty typical and cliché mindset to have. He is the head of a mercenary organization, he'd have to be pretty psychopathic himself.
Once they'd arrived, Violeta stood outside of the door. "Go on, I'll wait right out here for you." She slightly pushed his upper back towards the door with her right hand.
Evan nodded and walked inside, sure enough. The infamous Mr. Sill was sitting in his cushioned chair. Evan sat down across from his desk before he had to hear
"take a seat Evan." from Sill. "Going to jump straight to it, you did great work out there. Quite the marksman. We treasure mercenaries like you, you're much less replaceable than the rest. I've seen your skill on the range and now you show it on a true target. I've decided to do a few things for you. You're getting a new and better room, weapons of higher caliber since I think you'll put them to good use and your pay rate will most definitely be higher per kill from now on. You didn't get paid for your recent mission since it was more of a test rather than anything else, but it'll start rolling in soon. Prove to me that you deserve it and you can keep this promotion."
Evan had no idea what to say to this, it was nothing like what he'd expected. He grinned and sighed in relief. Wasn't too enthusiastic about killing but at least he'd been promoted.
"That's all for now Evan, you may go. You get moved into your new room tomorrow." Mr. Sill leaned back in his chair and folded his hands.
"Thank you, I appreciate it." Evan got up and walked out of his office, Violeta leaning against the wall.
"So, what happened?" She asked as the two began walking back to Evan's room.
"He promoted me."
