"So how's school?" dad asked.
I shrugged.
"I'm passing if that counts, it's just really stressful," I said.
"Why?" he asked.
"Well, some of the classes are advanced classes," I explained, "I thought I could handle them but they're pretty hard."
There was something else on my mind though as I talked like everything was normal. It wasn't. I had missed my period by two weeks, and it had never been that irregular. So my fear was pregnancy. I mean, could shifters reproduce anyway? If so, I think we have a problem. Dad asked me another question but I completely zoned out.
"Nai?" he asked.
I shot up and gave him a confused look.
"Huh?"
"Too many late nights," he sighed.
I blushed and shrugged.
"It's not too bad," I replied, "I'm just a tiny bit tired."
"Why don't you go lay down? Bella and I can do the dishes," he offered.
"Yeah, go relax," Bella said.
I nodded and headed upstairs. The test was burning a hole in my pocket. I stopped by the bathroom and looked inside. Never had the bathroom seemed so sinister. I stepped in and shut the door pulling my pants down and retrieving the test. I quickly did the deed and set the test on the counter, waiting awkwardly until the three minutes were up. I stood with a sigh and figured now was not the time for cowardice. When my eyes found the test, I couldn't believe what it said. Pregnant 3+ weeks. I had doled out the money for the good test, just to be sure I didn't get any false readings.
"Shit," was all I could muster.
That explained my sudden craving for milkshakes all the time, and why I had been so tired lately. I dropped the test back in my pocket and headed to my room. From there I texted Paul.
"I need you to come over now please, it's important," I wrote.
I didn't get a reply but soon enough heard a rock hit my window. I opened it and stood back. Paul quickly climbed in and gave me a worried look.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
I took the test out and handed it to him without reservation. He hesitated but look down at it, moments before dropping it.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" he asked.
I shook my head and crossed my arms over my chest to block the cold air. It was getting chilly with the window open. I walked around him and shut it, turning around just to see him shaking.
"Is it mine?" he asked.
"Well duh! You're the only person I've had sex with since Ni- since before here," I said.
His shaking lessened and he turned to look at me.
"Are you keeping it?"
"Yes!" I almost shouted.
I covered my mouth and quickly ushered him into the closet as I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. I pulled out my phone and pretended to be on the phone. Dad popped his head in after a quick knock.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, just an argument," I explained convincingly.
He nodded and left the room again. Paul came out once dad was down the hall.
"I'm glad," he said suddenly.
I gave him a confused look.
"I wouldn't want you to kill my baby- our baby," he said.
Tears came to my eyes at those words.
"Thank you," I murmured.
He came forward and wrapped me in his arms.
"Nai, I have something serious to ask you," he said.
"What?" I replied, suddenly feeling nervous.
"Will you move in with me? Raise this baby with me?" he asked.
I felt relief wash over me. He really did want the baby!
"Yes!" I whispered happily.
Tears overflowed from my eyes and I hugged him tightly. Everything was going to be okay.

Okay, maybe everything wasn't going to be okay.
"You're 16 Nai, there's no way you're moving out!" dad shouted.
"Dad you don't understand, I have to!" I pleaded.
"Why, what's so important that you have to leave your family and go live with some boy?" he asked.
I hesitated but Paul nodded.
"We're pregnant," I blurted.
Silence filled the room.
"What?" he asked in a deadly calm voice.
"I'm pregnant dad, and I want to live with the baby's father, Paul," I explained.
He rose and suddenly charged over. Paul let out a growl and stood in front of me, eyes narrowed dangerously.
"If you've got a problem pops, let's take it outside, we're not going to chance hurting her," Paul said.
Dad backed up slightly at the sight of Paul drawn to his full height.
"I won't hurt my daughter," Dad said defensively.
"I'm not taking that chance," Paul replied.
Dad looked defeated as he sat back down, Paul following a second later
"Please dad, this would mean the world to me," I begged.
"There's going to be conditions," dad said.
I let out a squeal as I realized this meant he was agreeing.
"Anything!" I said.
"You stay in school and you visit on the weekends," he said.
"Done!"
Paul's hand snaked into mine and he squeezed it gently.
"See I told you everything would be okay," Paul said.
"Yeah right, you were the one freaking out what you'd have to do if he said no," I whispered, nudging him.
He smirked and shrugged.
"Details," he muttered.
"Do you need help moving?" dad asked.
I shook my head.
"The gang should help," Paul added.
Paul took out his cell phone and walked into another room, calling up someone.
"How did this happen?" dad sighed.
I walked over and gave him a hug.
"It's okay, it was obviously meant to be," I said.
"If he hurts you Nai, so be it, I'll-"
I patted his shoulder with a grin.
"Dad, don't worry, he won't hurt me
I couldn't tell him I still had no idea exactly what our relationship was. Paul was slowly warming up to me and we were acting more and more like a couple as the days went by, but we hadn't made it official, nor had we discussed it.
"The threat still stands," dad said.
I nodded and smiled down at him.
"Thank you dad," I whispered.

I felt a little nostalgic as we put my things in boxes.
"It's hard to believe Paul of all people is going to be a father," Embry said.
I smirked at Paul slugged him in the shoulder.
"Shut up," Paul muttered.
I heard an angry growl from the corner and saw Jacob standing in the door way.
"So it's true?" he asked.
His glare turned to me and Paul jumped in front of me.
"Don't you think about it," Paul snapped.
"I'm not going to hurt her," Jacob said, rolling his eyes.
"It's okay," I told Paul, rubbing his arm.
Ever since he found out I was pregnant, there had been a night and day change about how he protected me. It's like I was breakable now, which I suppose I was very vulnerable.
Paul side stepped slightly and Jacob came forward.
"I can't believe it," was all he said.
"Yeah well believe it," Paul retorted.
Jacob sent him a glare, but his eyes softened as he looked down at my stomach.
"You're supposed to bear my children, be my wife," he said softly.
"That's what the fates chose but we're not bending to them, and obviously they have a different plan now," I said.
His adams apple bobbed as he swallowed thickly.
"Need help?"
"I could use some help," Seth called from my closet.
I turned in confusion and couldn't help a burst of laughter as I saw him, buried in my clothes. He tried to step forward but fell and busted his ass.
"Poor Seth," I cooed.
I went over and offered him my hand.
"Thanks Nai," he said, taking my hand.
"Be careful," Paul warned.
"He's not heavy enough to hurt me," I replied.
What a worry wart, but honestly I kind of liked it. I let got of Seth as he righted himself and smiled at Paul.
"Don't worry, I'm fine, see?"
I spun slightly just to prove my point but everything went black.
