This is the second chapter out of the three I'll be uploading today. Enjoy!
HANNAH
"Run for cover!" I scream as Mark and I get up. We run as fast as we can, screaming all the while. As soon as we make it back inside, Peacekeepers hurry up to us and see what's wrong. Mark and I start laughing. It's one of the many things we tend to do these days. Peacekeepers are so easy to trick, so why wouldn't we let them think that we were getting killed instead of just sitting on the roof in the rain? Soon the joke is over, though, and we have to get back to work. We go to the training room and continue to talk about our strategy. We already of many allies: Jacinta Butler, David Cha, and Tamara Lukinasa. Now Mark and I are just trying to decide what to do about Andrew Restores. "I really think that he is trustworthy. I mean, his fatal flaw is loyalty, how untrustworthy can that possibly be?" Mark argues. "Well, I still think we should hang out with him more, just to get to know him better." I state. Before our discussion turns into a heated argument, Octimus Prime, our ridiculous mentor, walks in with two Peacekeepers. "I already told you guys, we were just screaming for no reason, we weren't actually dying!" I protest as the two Peacekeepers pull me to my feet. "That's not why we are getting you two." Octimus explains. "It is now time for your test." "Our test?" Mark questions. "We already took two!" "No!" Octimus shouts. "This is your actual test. The Gamemasters are going to score your results and then let the whole world know how good you actually are." Before we can protest anymore, Mark and I are dragged out of the training room, and led to meet the other tributes for yet another test.
Mark and I are brought into a huge room where most of the tributes are waiting. As we walk in, the first tribute from district 1, Mac Intris, is called into a room, where, judging from the look on his face, he will be tested. On the way to the room, Mark and I agreed to first talk to our allies, and then try to find more. Even though we never discuss it, I know both us and our allies are setting ourselves up for defeat. I mean, if everyone is our ally, then we will eventually need to betray each other. Mark goes to talk to our allies while I go and talk to Andrew. He seems like a nice guy, but I still can't be sure if I can trust him yet. Somehow, I think the feeling is mutual.
"Hey Andrew!" I say as I walk next to him. He stops his pacing to glance at me, and then sits down in the chair beside me. "Hey Hannah, did you know that we were having the test today?" "No," I say, "I don't think they told anyone." "Ya." Andrew sighs. Clearly, he is not too excited about this surprise test. I don't think anyone is. "What do you think you'll have to do for the test?" I ask, and soon we are talking about training, our weapons, and tactics. Soon Andrew's name is called. "Good luck!" I say to him as he slowly walks to the testing room. I walk to Mark and give him the thumbs up. Andrew should be our ally. Now all we have to do is ask him. Mark is talking to Jacinta Butler, his half-sister. I try to keep up with their conversation, but, to be honest, their conversation is much too sophisticated for me. I can't understand a word they are saying. That doesn't matter, though, because soon, after Mark, my name is called, and I walk into the testing room.
In the testing room, there is an assortment of weapons, paints, and other objects. At the front of the room, there is a long table with all the judges. "Show us your talents!" One shouts, and I am dumbfounded. What on earth should I show them? I quickly look around the room. I try to think but my mind is totally blank…and then I have it! I turn invisible, and start walking through the room. As I walk through the room, I use each weapon I walk by. I may not be good at using every weapon, but surely it looks impressive if you can't see the person using the weapons! By the end, the room is a mess, and I feel semi-successful. At least it was fun to watch the Gamemakers' faces!
I walk out and go back to District 5's training room. There, I talk with Mark about our allies and how our test went. All of a sudden, Octimus runs into the training room, and yells at us to follow him. We follow him into the living room, where there is a TV which is telling each person's score. I turn to the TV, and gasp at Mac's score. Octimus looks like he might cry when he sees that Mac's score is…
