Lights from passing cars illuminated the window. It was dark outside and the stars were shining brightly against the ink black sky, the quarter moon was nothing but a boat floating amongst the sea of stars, and it was so quiet you could hear the neighbor's soft, instrumental music playing next door. The only problem was that Ulquiorra had yet to come home. Orihime glanced back at the clock hanging on the wall and sighed. It was nine-thirty. Ulquiorra should have been home nearly three and a half hours ago. Where was he? A soft growl echoed through the nearly apartment. She gently placed her hand on her stomach and sighed. "I knew I should have ordered pizza when I had the chance." There was a slight click and she quickly glanced hopefully at the door. Ulquiorra stepped into the apartment carrying three, large pizza boxes. "I apologize for being late," he said. "I decided to stop by the pizza parlor and pick up a couple of cheese pizzas for you. Unfortunately it was very busy and I had to wait for a while before they could actually take my order. I hope I did not worry you." "Oh, no, not at all," Orihime exclaimed happily, waving her arms in front of her body. "I'm just happy you're home!" She rushed up and kissed him roughly, nearly causing him to drop the pizza boxes. Ulquiorra's eyes widened slightly and quickly returned the kiss. "What was that for?" he asked when she finally released his neck and pulled away. There was a slight smile tugging at his lips. "I'm not allowed to kiss my husband in the confines of my own home without a reason?" Orihime asked. She crossed her arms and turned her back to him. "I can kiss you without wanting anything you know." Ulquiorra rolled his eyes slightly and chuckled to himself. "I know. It is just a little strange. I come home late and you kiss me for it. Aren't most women supposed to be furious with their husbands when that happens?" "Let's just say that I'm in a good mood," Orihime giggled, and turned her head to smile at him over her shoulder. "Are you going to come in or are you just going to stand there all night?" "I suppose I will come in," Ulquiorra replied. He slipped off his shoes, carried the boxes to the kitchen, and set them on the table. "The top two are cheese and the bottom one is pepperoni. The two cheese pizzas are all yours." "Really," Orihime exclaimed and threw her arms around his neck, "oh, thank you, Ulquiorra! I've been craving pizza all day!" "You have been craving pizza for nearly two weeks," Ulquiorra replied, opening two of the boxes. "I did not have to guess that you would desire more tonight." "Ha ha, very funny," Orihime huffed as she got two plates from the cupboard. "I was not trying to be funny," Ulquiorra informed. He was about to take a plate when Orihime suddenly pulled it away from him. "Um, Ulquiorra," she started wrapping her hair around her finger, "do you think we could eat out in the living room so we can watch a movie? It is Friday after all. You don't have to go to work tomorrow." Ulquiorra glanced at her skeptically and sighed inwardly. He picked up the two boxes and walked out into the living room with Orihime trailing happily at his heels. He set the boxes on the coffee table and went over to the TV. "Which movie do you wish to watch?" he asked, kneeling down next to the DVD compartment. "Oh, Rukia lent me a movie," Orihime replied through a mouthful of pizza and pointed to the DVD player, "it's already in." "I see." Ulquiorra stood up and walked back to the couch. He put two slices of pepperoni pizza on his plate and sat down next to Orihime. "What movie did she loan you?" "Actually, she more told me to watch it," Orihime admitted embarrassingly. She nuzzled up close to his side and rested her head on his shoulder. "She said that the guy who plays Louis is "drop dead gorgeous", but I doubt he's as attractive as you are." Ulquiorra smiled slightly and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "You still did not answer my question." He pressed the power button on the remote and the DVD main title page flashed on the screen. "Interview with the Vampire," Orihime replied as the words slowly materialized out of smoke. "I've never even heard of it, but apparently they made the movie from a book. I'm kind of curious what it's about." "Then we should start watching it, shouldn't we?" Ulquiorra asked, slightly teasing, and pressed play. To say that he was unimpressed would have been an understatement. The movie was slow, the main character, Louis, was a whiny man who did not seem to know the meaning of silence, and the adult content was minimal, but it was still enough to cause Orihime to blush a bright pink and nuzzle her face into his shirt. Not that he minded that part so much, but the rest of the film seemed to have a moot purpose. A vampire was tired of living in hiding and had decided to talk to a very skittish reporter. He had described his entire life in such fascinating, yet boring, detail that it was almost enough to put Ulquiorra to sleep. After a failed suicide attempt by provoking a drunk man in a card game, the vampire was ripped from humanity and forced to live an immortal life. Years passed and he was wandering through the dark allies of a plague strickened England, or France he could not remember, where he turned a little girl into a "monster" like him. It had just gotten to the part where the girl and Louis were "freed" from the vampire, Lestat, who had originally turned Louis into a vampire. Ulquiorra shifted slightly so his legs were stretched across the couch, his back was resting against the arm and back cushions, and Orihime was curled up on top of him. She had gotten the purple comforter from the bedroom when she had asked him to pause the movie so she could use the bathroom, and they were now covered in the soft, purple fabric. There was a soft sob and he glanced down. Tears were gently sliding down Orihime's cheeks and there was a slight smile on her lips. Why was she crying? This was not a particularly sad part of the movie, and it was not so emotional as to cause her to cry tears of happiness. What was she crying about? Ulquiorra paused the movie and sat up, causing Orihime to slide down his chest. "What is wrong?" Orihime stared up at him with big, silver doe eyes. "W-what do you mean?" she sniffed and rubbed the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand. "Do not play coy with me, Orihime," Ulquiorra stated firmly. "You can try to hide it as much as you want, but I can see that you are upset over something. What is it?" "It's..." Orihime paused. She couldn't say it was nothing, because it wasn't. It was something, something huge, but how could she tell him? "I have to tell you something, Ulquiorra." The tone in her voice caused Ulquiorra to raise his eyebrows and sit up completely, swinging his legs over the edge of the couch. He placed a hand over her's and squeezed it gently. "What is it?" "I...I," Orihime struggled to swallow. A hot lump formed in the hollow of her throat and she suddenly couldn't breathe. "I'm..." she sighed in frustration. Why couldn't she do this? She had practiced this for two hours in front of the mirror. Why was this so hard? She felt something warm cup her face and looked up. Ulquiorra was staring at her with worried eyes. "You are what?" he asked softly, wiping a tear away with his thumb. "You can tell me." Orihime bit her lip and squeezed his hand. "I know. It's just that...this is so hard for me to say." "Then why not show me?" Ulquiorra asked. He was beginning to worry about her. She was crying, yet she did not appear sad. In fact it was just the opposite. She seemed happy, but she was having problems thinking of the right words to say. "I don't think I-" she paused. "Actually, I think there is a way to show you." "Then show me," Ulquiorra said gently. "If you are having trouble finding the correct words, show me. You might be able to think of what to say then." "You're right," Orihime sighed. She grasped his hand in both of hers and gently pressed it against her stomach. She could feel her cheeks grow warm as a blush colored her skin. Ulquiorra stared down at his hand in confusion. "What am I supposed to be seeing?" Orihime smiled slightly at the touch of his fingers on her stomach. It felt so warm and gentle. She hoped that he would do this willingly in the future. "Ulquiorra," she finally said, "I-I'm...I'm pregnant." Ulquiorra's eyes widened and his hand flinched away from her stomach for a split second before going completely limp. "Pregnant?" She nodded. Any physical ties Ulquiorra had to this world were suddenly gone. He could feel them snapping as he gazed down at his woman's belly where his hand was lying limp. She was pregnant. He slid off the couch and knelt between her legs, gazing intently at her stomach. His fingers twitched slightly and slowly began massaging the delicate skin of her belly through the thin fabric of her t-shirt. She was bearing his child. There was a moment of silence where neither of them said a word. Ulquiorra gently pressed his forehead against his hand and Orihime ran her fingers through his hair. He was going to be a father. "Are you alright?" Orihime asked softly. Her fingers were gently massaging his scalp as he got as close to her and the child as he possibly could. "No," he whispered, hearing his own voice crack. "I am far better than alright." He gazed up at her with loving eyes and a smile spread across his lips. "There is nothing in this world that could make me happier than I am right now." Orihime felt fresh tears stream down her face as she smiled at him. She couldn't think of anything to say, but then again she didn't need to. She wrapped her arms around Ulquiorra's neck and held him tight. His face was gently pressed against her stomach where their child was growing and his hands were holding her hips to keep her from escaping. There was absolutely nothing that could ruin this moment for her. They sat like that for what felt like hours. Neither of them spoke and neither of them moved. It was their own version of heaven on Earth. Ulquiorra felt a cramp forming in his neck, shoulders, and back, and decided that he had to stand up. He reluctantly pulled himself out of Orihime's embrace and stood up stiffly, cracking his neck and stretching his arms and shoulders. It was strange. He suddenly had the urge to jump onto the roof and shout to the world that he and Orihime were going to have a child. He closed his eyes and started laughing softly at the ridiculous idea that did not seem so ludicrous. "What's so funny?" Orihime asked curiously. It was rare that she ever saw Ulquiorra laugh, much less laugh like this. "It is nothing," Ulquiorra replied, his laugh was slowly starting to escalate as the adrenaline pumping through his body increased. "It is just...," he burst out laughing and picked her up, spinning rapidly before finally setting her down and kissing her gently. Orihime was taken aback by this sudden change in mood, but never hesitated to kiss him back. She was slightly dizzy from her little spin but that was nothing compared to the head rush she was getting from this kiss. She pulled away and stared up at Ulquiorra with half lidded eyes. "I don't think a little exercise would hurt the baby any," she said shyly. Ulquiorra smiled and kissed her gently. "Just one moment." He ran to the door and opened it so fast that he nearly ripped it off the hinges. The eve hanging over the frame was within his reach. He jumped up, grabbed the gutter, and swung himself onto the roof. He sprinted to the peak of the roof and breathed in the cool night air. It was calm and there was not a single breath of wind to carry any sounds across the vast display of lights shining brightly before him. He cupped his hands over his mouth and yelled. "WOOHOO!" The sound cracked through the night like thunder as it rolled across the complex, down to the river, and through the business district. He could not help but laugh. "Ulquiorra," a voice bellowed from below, "what are you doing up there?" Ulquiorra slid down to the gutter and peered over the ledge. There was an old man with white hair standing on the sidewalk, staring up at him with confused eyes. "Mr. Taka," he shouted in reply and jumped off the roof. He landed gracefully on the ground and ran over to the old man, hugging him tightly. "Am I glad to see you!" Mr. Taka stared down at him in a catatonic astonishment. "Ulquiorra, what has gotten into you? Are you trying to kill yourself? Don't jump off the damn roof! You can't fly!" "No, but I feel like I can!" Ulquiorra exclaimed as he let go of the old landlord and spun in circles. Mr. Taka stared at him in disbelief. "What the hell's going on? Did you and Orihime change bodies or something?" Ulquiorra smiled and tried to calm down. "Trust me, sir. If you knew what I just learned, you would be happy too." "Well, don't leave an old man in the dark," Mr. Taka exclaimed. "Let's hear it." Orihime stepped out onto the walkway and leaned on the rail. Ulquiorra and Mr. Taka were talking on the grass below. Mr. Taka's eyes widened and he slapped Ulquiorra's shoulder with his hat. "Congratulations," he shouted, "I had a feeling that was what was going on by the way my wife was acting! Oh my god," he turned up to Orihime and waved, "congratulations, Orihime!" "Thank you, Mr. Taka!" Orihime half yelled and half laughed in reply as she waved down at them. "Ulquiorra, are you coming up soon?" "I'll be right there," Ulquiorra called, and shook Mr. Taka's hand roughly. "Good night, Mr. Taka." "Good night, Ulquiorra," Mr. Taka replied happily, but he did not hear a word the old man said. He was already jumping up to the second story railing and heaving himself over into his woman's arms. Orihime kissed him roughly and pulled him inside the apartment, slamming the door behind them. Mr. Taka shook his head and laughed. "It's a wonder that it didn't happen sooner."
