Chauvelin and I were placed in a separate cell from the others soldiers and tribunal members. "How is it that I am the only woman imprisoned now" I whispered. "I fear it is because you are the only one who knows the truth and the others were either never married or their wives never knew the truth" Chauvelin replied. "I don't want to be taken to the guillotine" I whispered, now on the verge of tears."Nor do I" he replied, pulling me close. "I only wish there was a bit of hope that maybe we could be rescued" I said, laying my head on his chest. All that he and I could do now was make peace with our maker and prepare for the day we would face the guillotine but all I wanted now was one last chance to see my father and to see my home of England one last time.
King's P.O.V
It was a peaceful day and I had Percy over along with his friends. We had finished luncheon when my sentry announced "Monsieur Tussuad and his wife request an emergency audience with you." "Show them in" I answered. I noticed Marie was with child and while I was about to give her my congratulations; I noted the looked of terror in her eyes. "Majesty; I come bearing bad news. The citizens have rebelled against the tribune and are executing them the same way they had executed others. Cassidy and Chauvelin were captured by a mob just before they could on the boat to come home" she announced.
I was in utter disbelief that my daughter was now in grave danger. I feared this was my fault as I had placed her in this marriage. I noticed Percy was listening and I heard him say "It's time to bring the Pimpernel out of retirement one last time." "Percy; are you the Scarlet Pimpernel" I asked. "No point in hiding the truth anymore your majesty. Yes; I am the Pimpernel and this is the league or as you have called us 'rebel rousers.' I am sorry for the secret but I refused to let any other innocents lose their heads to the blade of the guillotine" Percy answered, rising out of his chair. "How could you lie to me Blakeney? No matter; my only question now is can you bring Cassidy and Chauvelin back to England?"
"I will your majesty" Percy replied. "I also request to go on this rescue. I understand that I will be under your orders. Please; I fear that she is only in this mess because I placed her in that marriage to Chauvelin. Let me right this wrong before it costs Cassidy her life" I added. The league huddled together with a quick nod of agreement and Percy replied "As you wish your majesty. You must understand our complete secrecy. Be ready to go at once and meet us at the docks." He also sent Marie and Tussuad to his house to stay with his wife and let her know what was going on and made sure Armand would be alright with this mission.
A few hours later; I was with Percy and his league on the 'The Daydream' and on course to the coastal town of Michelon where Cassidy had been taken. I stood on the bridge, looking out over the ominous waters and prayed 'Please don't let us be too late'. I joined the others down in one of the cabin and we set a plan into motion. It was now planned that Armand would take Hal, Ben, Ozzy, and Dewhurst to hunt for Robespierre while I would join the others as jail guards and chaplains to get close to Cassidy and Chauvelin. I listened to all instructions and to do all it would take to protect my beloved daughter.
