At last, we've come to the end of the Eyes Open revamp. I now present to you the final chapter, chapter 11, of Eyes Open —hope y'all enjoy!
Kira sat on her bed, nearly bouncing with anticipation as she waited for Allara to return to their room. Once the mining ship had returned the Padawans to the Temple, Codi had been summoned by the Council. He'd taken Allara with him, saying she needed to give her own report.
Kira wasn't resentful of this at all. In fact, she was glad. She thought the Council was a little too intimidating for her taste, even if Obi-Wan was on it.
In any case, Kira had been in the room long enough to change into fresh clothing and comb her hair into a neater braid. Now she was sitting on her bed, wishing she had something to practice her levitation or swordsmanship with.
The door to the quarters slid open, and Allara stepped inside. Kira whipped around so quickly she nearly knocked her head on the headboard. "Hey!" she exclaimed. "What happened? Did the Council –" She stopped when she saw Allara's slumped shoulders and downcast face. "Allara?"
"They banned him," Allara told Kira, kicking off her boots.
Kira squinted, not understanding. "The Council did what?"
Allara sighed. "They banned Codi from the Order."
Kira's jaw dropped. "Why? He saved us all!"
"I know – that's what I told them! But apparently, he wasn't supposed to go after Grievous in the first place. He disobeyed a direct order from the Council by going to avenge his own Master's death, so they kicked him out." Allara plopped onto her bed. "He said he has no regrets."
A Jedi wasn't to take vengeance on someone for any reason whatsoever, and Kira knew it, just as every Jedi did. "Oh."
Only then did Allara look at Kira. "The Council wants to see you, too. They told me to send you up."
"Why me?"
"Don't know."
Kira swung her legs over the side of the bed. "Better not keep them waiting, then."
"No."
With that, Kira walked out on shaky legs. Guess I'm not off the hook after all, she thought, wondering what the Council could possibly want from her.
Despite her aversion to the Council, Kira quickly made her way to the lift and pressed the button. She rocked on the balls of her feet as she waited for the lift to arrive.
"Kira?"
Kira turned her head at the sound of her name and grinned.
Kira could recognize Anakin Skywalker's new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, from miles away. She was closer to Cadena's age than Kira's, but she loved younglings. There had been many times when Ahsoka had dropped by the Bergruutfa sector to help look after the clan or help with saber training. "Hello, Ahsoka," Kira said. "What brings you by?"
"A new mission." Ahsoka rolled her eyes. "Skyguy and I are leaving for Chandrila in the morning, and he thought I should read up on it so I don't accidentally offend anyone, even if we will end up using aggressive negotiations anyway since we've got a bounty hunter to catch."
Kira winced. "Sounds like an adventure."
Ahsoka smirked. "It sounds like you had quite the adventure yourself, at least from what Cadena said."
"You know about that?" Kira's eyes widened.
Ahsoka waved off Kira's shock. "Don't look so surprised. Word spreads quickly around here, especially when Cadena does the telling."
The lift door opened, and Ahsoka waved to Kira as the younger girl stepped inside. "I'll see you around!" she called gaily as she began to skip down the hall.
Kira grinned, feeling much better after that encounter. However, when the door slid closed and the lift moved upwards, some of the butterflies came flooding back. Kira ended up pacing around the lift a few times.
When Kira finally stepped from the lift into the outer chamber, she was pleasantly surprised to find Obi-Wan waiting for her there. "Master Kenobi," she greeted him, bowing.
Obi-Wan smiled at her. "Hello, young one," he said, gesturing to the open door. "After you."
Kira took a deep breath as she stepped over the threshold into the chamber and into the sightline of the twelve Council members. She hated having so many eyes on her, but she took care to hide that as she bowed to the members of the Council.
"Greetings, Kira," Mace Windu addressed the young girl. "Do you know why you are here?"
In all honesty, Kira was clueless, but she simply replied, "No, Master."
Mace raised his eyes to Obi-Wan, who stood behind Kira and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Members of the Council, I have a request to make," he said.
Yoda smiled. "Continue, you may, Obi-Wan," he said.
"I request permission to take Kira Narro as my Padawan."
Kira's eyes widened in shock, and she turned to look up at Obi-Wan as he continued, "I believe Kira's actions on Belsus are a testament to her skills in leadership and use of the Force, and I am willing to see the incident there as her Initiate Trials."
Yoda turned his gaze to Kira. "Agree with you, this arrangement does, hmm?" he asked her.
Kira couldn't stop the grin from spreading across her face. "It does, Master Yoda." She turned to Obi-Wan. "Master Kenobi, I will do my very best to be a worthy student."
Obi-Wan smiled and turned Kira back to face Yoda. He gently pulled a strand of hair from her braid and began to form it into a smaller Padawan braid. "You already are, Kira."
With that, Yoda stood from his chair and hobbled up to the two. "Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kira Narro, Master and Padawan you are. Serve each other and serve the Force, you will," he stated as Obi-Wan finished the braid and placed his hand back on Kira's shoulder.
Kira turned back to Obi-Wan once again. "Thank you, Master."
Obi-Wan patted Kira's shoulder kindly. "Come, my young Padawan. Let's go collect your things. I'll show you where you're going to stay."
Kira had to keep reminding herself that this was not a dream as she followed Obi-Wan to her original quarters, packed her belongings, and said goodbye to her friends in the Bergruutfa clan. Cadena and Allara were especially supportive, with Allara helping to pack and Cadena giving Kira a giant congratulatory hug. Caleb was also excited for Kira, but he made her promise to return to the Bergruutfa sector for frequent visits. This Kira agreed to wholeheartedly.
Later, as Kira walked into the quarters she'd be sharing with Obi-Wan, she determined to make him, her friends, and the Council proud of her.
She was certain that her mother would've been proud of her, too.
Well, I had to get around the Initiate Trials somehow. They're a thing. *shrug*
