Chapter 11: Getting in the Good Books.

*Chirp**Chirp**Chirp*

Mirai began twittering as the sun rose the next morning, causing Kaname to awaken. When his eyes sleepily blinked open he realised that Zero was still asleep on top of him after last night's drinking session. He also realised that Mirai wasn't in the nest they had built, but was instead peering down at him from atop Zero's head. It seemed that Mirai had cheekily decided to nest in Zero's hair last night after they had fallen asleep.

"What are you doing in my Zero's hair?" Kaname whispered to the bird quietly, trying not to wake his sweetheart.

"Chirp, Chirp." Mirai replied, head tilting to the side as if to convey that he didn't know what Kaname was talking about.

"I know it's probably quite comfy, but you should get down from there before he wakes up. He might be in a cranky mood after last night." Kaname suggested.

"Chirp!" Mirai replied, this time seeming to understand.

However, rather than flying over the nest like Kaname was hoping, Mirai instead hopped out of Zero's hair to sit on Kaname's forehead, facing Zero.

"If my hands weren't busy hugging Zero-chan I would move you. It isn't polite to sit on people's heads you know." Kaname scolded, pouting.

Kaname managed to talk for a moment with the little bird being silent, but Mirai's attentions quickly refocused on Zero.

"Chirp, Chirp, Chirp!" Mirai seemed to want Zero to wake up.

"Shh…" Kaname tried to hush the little bird.

"Chirp, Chirp, Chirp!" Mirai refused to stop, now jumping onto Kaname's nose.

"Please be quiet Mirai, mama-bird is sleeping!" Kaname insisted, going cross-eyed to talk to the bird.

"Mnn…" Unfortunately it seemed that their relatively quiet commotion was enough to wake Zero.

Zero stirred slowly, still enjoying the warmth and comfort of Kaname's chest. His eyes eventually opened to find the rather entertaining sight of Mirai perched on Kaname's nose, hopping and chirping happily now that Zero was awake. Seeing this scene, Zero couldn't help but smile.

"Good morning." He greeted sleepily.

"Morning." Kaname replied. "You know, most days I would be happy to lie here and be your mattress for as long as you like. But, I have a bird on my nose, which isn't very comfortable."

"That's fine, I need to start making breakfast anyway." Zero replied, lifting himself off of Kaname.

As he stood, Mirai flew up onto Zero's shoulder. Kaname pouted.

"Zero, I think Mirai likes you more than me…" He sulked, following after Zero.

"He's just following me because he wants me to make him fruit mush. Where food is, the animals will gather." Zero explained. "That is also why you're following me, isn't it?" He added.

*GROOOOOOOWWL*

On cue, Kaname's stomach let out a large growl, causing Kaname to blush with embarrassment. Zero grinned in response, knowing that his observation was correct.

"Well, I am a little hungry…" Kaname conceded quietly.

"I kind of feel like fruit this morning, is that ok with you?" Zero asked.

"Perfectly fine." Kaname replied.

"Why don't you stay here and add some firewood to the fire? It looks like it went down over night." Zero suggested. "I'll only be a few minutes."

"Ok." Kaname agreed before sweeping Zero into a hug.

*Kiss*

"Come back soon my little love cookie~." Kaname kissed Zero on the cheek.

"I think 'love cookie' is a little too much…" Zero looked away, embarrassed.

"Snuggle muffin?" Kaname suggested.

"That's even worse!" Zero replied.

"Cutie pie?" He tried.

"No." Zero refused.

"Sugar cake?" He tried again.

"I know you have a sweet tooth, but no!" Zero insisted

"At least let me call you honey… or darling…" Kaname complained, using the full power of his pleading puppy-dog eyes.

*Sigh*

"Fine…" Zero gave in. "But nothing too over-the-top." He added.

*Kiss*

"Thank you. Come back soon, honey~." Kaname pecked Zero on the cheek again.

Blushing profusely, Zero walked away towards the jungle to find their breakfast with Mirai following happily behind.

"Haaaaaaah… I am so lucky." Kaname gushed, eyeing Zero's backside as the silverette strode off into the jungle with the sun shining down upon him.

Zero had walked a fair distance into the jungle and came across the tree which held the fruit Kaname seemed to like the most. Mirai sat on a rock nearby, chirping happily. Zero turned to face the little birdie.

"Sometimes Kaname can be a little too much, can't he?" Zero asked Mirai.

"Chirp."

"But I guess that's just how he is…and I love him, no matter how dopey his nicknames may be." Zero smiled.

"Chirp."

"Okay, I know that you're hungry. Give me a minute noisy-beak." Zero gave into the little bird's commands and continued picking the fruit.

A few minutes later and Zero was returning to their humble house with an armful of fresh fruit. Kaname dashed up with a brilliant smile and took the fruit from Zero, carrying it into their home to save Zero the effort. He set the fruit down on the table inside and turned to face Zero.

"While you were out I swept the path so that it wasn't so covered in dirt." Kaname pointed out.

"Thanks." Zero replied.

"I also washed my shirt all by myself today, so that you wouldn't have to do it. I even remembered how you told me to hang it on that tree so that it wouldn't get wrinkles!" Kaname announced, seeming quite proud of himself.

"It seems like you've been very productive this morning." Zero noticed while preparing their breakfast.

Mirai was too impatient to wait for Zero to make the mush so instead he made-do with eating directly from a small chunk of fruit Zero had cut for him. But, Zero was more focused on the pureblood's actions. He knew how unlike Kaname it was to be willing to do chores and menial tasks. Clearly the brunette was trying to get in his good books today for some reason.

"I was also wondering if you would give me the honour of braiding your hair later?" Kaname suggested.

"…" Zero was rather surprised.

Out of all the things Kaname would suggest, he was not expecting that.

"Our hair has grown quite long while we've been here. I'm fine with leaving my hair loose. But, you like practicality so I thought that maybe if your hair was braided that would make it easier for you." Kaname explained.

"Why are you being so nice to me today?" Zero asked, honestly curious as to what Kaname's intentions were.

Kaname looked down at the ground as if struggling to find the correct words to say.

"I…I've been feeling guilty about last night…" Kaname admitted. "I never wanted to force you to drink from me, but I was just so worried. You had a fever and were coughing…you were really in a bad state. But you told me that you were scared and I ignored your wishes so I assume that you're angry at me…"

Zero's heart felt torn as he observed the display of sadness etched on Kaname's face. He naturally found himself walking forward and pulling Kaname into his embrace to comfort him.

"It's not your fault, Kana. It's mine." Zero assured him. "You know that I used to be human, right? I was ok with the blood tablets. However, to me drinking blood from a living source is still something I'm not completely comfortable with. Even though I have been like this for several years now I still fear bloodlust and do my best to avoid it. But, I can assure you that your blood has tasted wonderful on both occasions that I have drunk from you." Zero blushed a little at that last statement.

Kaname returned Zero's embrace, pulling the silverette tight to his chest.

"My darling, I cannot fathom how difficult the transition must have been for you. Having been born a vampire, drinking blood is as natural as drinking water to me. I don't want to pressure you. However, I also don't want you to delay drinking from me." Kaname lightly scolded.

"…" Zero wasn't sure how he should respond.

"Maybe you could adjust to drinking my blood if you just have a little every day?" Kaname suggested. "It would keep you relatively full and you would then have more control of your wits while drinking." He explained.

"Then…Can I drink from you now?" Zero asked, looking up at Kaname through those thick eyelashes.

"Yes." Kaname replied, nearly breathless from the seductive look Zero gave him.

Yes, yes, yes…please use me as your personal blood bank Zero!

Kaname's heartbeat increased rapidly as Zero stood on tiptoes and proceeded to lick Kaname's neck. The pureblood was seriously struggling to keep his arousal in check and maintain control.

"Nnn…I'm ready, so please bite me." Kaname struggled to hold back a moan.

If Zero doesn't bite down soon he's going to find himself pressed up against the wall with his legs spread…

Kaname felt Zero stop licking and begin to line up his fangs, ready to drink. He then felt a short prick of pain as they punctured the skin, though this was quickly replaced by pleasure. Kaname soon found himself running a hand through Zero's hair as he enjoyed the feeling of togetherness. However, because Zero had drunk from him last night as well the feeding ended quickly because Zero was already somewhat full.

"That was good…" Zero said shyly.

"And you didn't fall into complete bloodlust?" Kaname asked.

"No…" Zero replied.

"And you will rely on me more in future?" Kaname confirmed.

"Yes." Zero agreed.

"Good." Kaname approved smiling. "Now, where's breakfast?" He asked cheerfully.

"Right here." Zero announced showing Kaname to the fruit platter he had made.

After having made amends they continued their day in peaceful relaxation. However, they were unaware just how close their rescuers were getting…
