Elementless?!

"I'm... what...?" Eve weakly asked.

"Hold on just a minute!" Lex interrupted. "What makes you so sure that Eve doesn't have an element?" He asked.

"Well, dragon hatchlings usually display their element two to three days after they hatched, and since you two are technically 'born' into this world one week ago and Eve have not displayed any sort of element during that time, I can assume that she does not have an element." Volteer explained.

"What about me?" Spyro asked. "The first time I used an element was when I fought the Apes that captured Sparx, and I'm twelve that time."

"The first time that you remember" Volteer answered. "It is possible that two or three days after you hatched, you used one of your elements, and you did not use it again until that battle with the Apes."

"What if Eve is just a little late?" Lex asked, slightly desperate. "That's possible, right?"

"Yes, it is possible." Volteer answered and everyone's face immediately lit up. "Unfortunately, there are other reasons why I am sure that Eve is elementless."

Lex frowned. "What other reasons?"

"We, the Guardians, cannot feel her inner element." Volteer answered.

"What?! Are you sure?!" Lex asked.

Volteer nodded. "Yes, very sure."

Lex worriedly looked at Eve, who is staring at the floor in silence, with a blank expression on her face.

"Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, Eve is not the first." Volteer said, causing everyone to snap their heads at him.

"There are other elementless dragons?" Eve spoke up.

"Yes, yes there are." Volteer answered. "An occurrence is quite uncommon, and to this day we never knew the cause, but it happens. Elementless dragons are divided into two categories: Fighter Dragons and Flight Dragons." Volteer explained. "Fighter Dragons are usually born with extra weapons, such as larger horns or spikes all over their body and are a natural in combat. Flight Dragons are usually born with large wings or other things that will help them in flight, and have a natural aptitude for flying."

Hearing that, Eve's spirit rose and a smile began to form. "Even if I can't use an element, it would be better than being a dragon that can't do anything." She thought.

"Unfortunately, we are left with another confusion." Volteer said.

"What do you mean?" Eve asked.

"Well, judging from your size and lack of offensive means, you are definitely not a Fighter Dragon. But, your lack of tail blade and the shape of your horns mean that you are not a Flight Dragon either." Volteer explained and Eve's spirit sank again.

After a long and uncomfortable silence, Eve sighed. "So, to sum it up, I'm useless."

"No, don't say that!" Lex exclaimed, moving to Eve's side. "C'mon Eve, you're far from useless!"

Slowly, Eve's eyes began to water. A single tear shed from her ruby eyes and ran down her face. When Eve realized that she is crying, a new feeling started surface; embarrassment. Crying in front of all of them, she started to feel embarrassed. She had to get away from them. So she did. She turned around and ran for the exit.

"Eve!" Lex immediately ran after her.

"Lex," Volteer said, making Lex stop, "leave her be. She needs some time alone."

"But, she might get lost!" Lex said, making excuses to go after Eve. "This place is huge!"

"You're right. A lot of things in this place is huge, especially the exit." Sparx said, pointing at the large exit that can be seen even from their spot. Lex gave the dragonfly an annoyed look before darting towards the door.

In a few minutes, he is already at the door. He pushed the door open and walked out to the streets of Warfang and found that the sun has set and it is now dark outside. He also found that Eve is nowhere to be found.

"Dang it!" he cursed.

A few moments later, the rest of the group finally caught up.

"Lex, Volteer said that Eve needs some time alone." Spyro said.

"I know but... she might get lost here too!" Lex said, making up another excuse.

"Um, Lex?" Sparx said, catching Lex's attention. The dragonfly is pointing at the Dragon Temple, a large building built on top of a hill overlooking the city, which can be clearly seen from pretty much anywhere in the city.

Lex gave the dragonfly an annoyed look, before taking flight.

-Later-

Eve entered the room she shared with Lex, Spyro, Cynder and Sparx. The room was dark. The candles that are scattered across the room remain unlit. But, she didn't care about them. She went straight to the balcony. There, she broke down.

She began to cry silently. Not just because of the sudden revelation of her lack of element, but also because she is crying in the first place. She doesn't really care about being a dragon and flying and those kinds of junk; she only cared about getting home. And now, she's crying about something that she doesn't really care about, and that is what really upsets her.

"Hi." A voice said. Eve immediately looked at the voice's direction and saw Lex.

"I want to be alone, Lex." Eve said.

"Okay." Lex replied. Instead of going away, he stepped into the balcony. "Let's be alone together." he said and Eve can't help but smile weakly.

"What do you want?" Eve asked.

"Nothing. I just want to stand in my balcony and watch the stars." The dragon honestly replied.

Hearing Lex say it, Eve can't help but to look up. And when she did, she was amazed. There are millions of stars, twinkling in the sky. She never saw a sight like this, not even in camping trips. "They're beautiful." Eve said.

Lex turned his gaze from the sky to the dragoness beside him. The soft glow of the moon illuminated her scarlet scales, and the stars are reflected from her ruby eyes, increasing her beauty. Lex smiled. "Nothing compared to you." He thought. "You're not useless, Eve." he finally said.

Eve stopped stargazing and sighed. "Says the dragon that can use pretty much every element."

"Having an element is not everything." Lex said. "Just look at Forge, he can't fly or use an element or anything, but he's still pretty awesome."

"Okay, maybe having an element is not everything, but it's still a lot." Eve said. "So, I guess I'm... less useful."

Lex smirked. "Says the girl that singlehandedly managed to turn me from a loner to a social floater."

Even in her depressed state, Eve can't help but blush. "That was nothing."

"Nothing? You changed my life! If it weren't for you, right now I'll be curled up in the corner, being emo!" Lex said.

"Okay, you're right. But, in this world, I'm not facing a kid that needs emotional support, I'm facing monsters that are as tall as skyscrapers, and I don't think talking to them is going bring them down." Eve said. Lex was about to say something against it, but Eve cut him off, "Even you think that's true."

Lex frowned. He did think that what Eve said was true. But, his face lit up as he thought of something. "Okay, maybe you won't be as hard-hitting as me or Spyro, but there is something you can use to even the odds." This piqued Eve's interest. "Your brain."

"My brain?"

"Yeah! You can be the brain in our group."

"What group?"

"Well, currently the group consists of me, you, Spyro, Cynder, Forge and Sparx, but who knows who we're gonna meet in this little adventure. And you can be the brains of it." Lex explained.

"Well... I guess I can." Eve said.

"That's the spirit!" Lex smiled. "You don't have to worry about fighting too much. I swear, I'll take down everything that comes your way."

"Really?" Eve asked as a blush formed.

"Of course. It's the least I can do after all you've done for me." Lex answered. "Besides, your mom and my mom is gonna kill me if anything happens to you."

Eve chuckled lightly and went back to stargazing. "I wonder how our family's doing." she wondered.

"Oh man." Lex sighed. "I'm really trying to avoid that thought since day one. Let's talk about something else, okay?"

"They gotta be worried sick." Eve continued to wonder.

"Again, let's skip that." Lex said, getting a bit uncomfortable.

"We just disappeared without a trace." Eve wondered on.

"Dude, didn't you hear me?! I said skip it!" Lex exclaimed, getting even more uncomfortable.

"We just up and vanished like that." Eve wondered again, but this time with a noticeable mischievous grin on her face.

Lex narrowed his eyes. "Okay, now you're just doing it on purpose."

Eve chuckled. "Sorry." she said.

The two went back into comfortable silence.

"Well, if you need some more time alone, I understand." Lex said, breaking the silence. "I guess I'll see you at dinner."

"Thanks, Lex." Eve said before Lex started to walk away. Suddenly, she remembered something important. "Lex?" she said, which made the Ultima Dragon stop right before he exited the balcony.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks."

"Uh... you already thanked me." Lex said, confused.

"No, it's for that time when we just got here and you saved me from those Grublins." Eve explained. "I want to thank you for that."

"No problem." Lex said with a sincere smile. But, the smile slowly turned into a mischievous grin. "It is, after all, a hero's duty to save a damsel in distress."

Eve rolled his eyes. "Way to kill the moment."

Lex chuckled. After a while, the chuckle died down. "See you at dinner." he said before he exited the balcony, made his way across the room and exited the room.

Eve's gaze lingered on the door Lex just closed. A smile slowly formed on her face. "Seeing him as he is now, no one would ever guess what a loner he used to be." she thought. She was about to go back to stargazing, but now she is more interested at the dragon that just left the room than the stars.

"Lex, wait up!"

Way to cheer up your lady, Lex! And in case you didn't notice, we just got a little peek of Lex and Eve's past back in the human world.

One of the shorter chapters I wrote, but it doesn't mean it's not as important as my longer ones. We get to explore Lex and Eve's character a bit. It's also a great exercise for me 'cause I'm probably gonna do more emotional chapters from here. And to all of you who pity Eve for her lack element, don't be. That girl got powers too. Secret powers.

Unfortunately, it won't be revealed until about the middle of Part 2.

As always, please review!
