Chapter 11- Sunday
4 hours later my family was sitting at my dining room table ready to eat Easter dinner. When I say dining room table I mean dining room, extended into the fireplace room, extended into the living room table. There were so many people in our house we had to connect 3 extra tables to our usual one.
All of us kids were sitting in the middle but Sam and Charlie decided to be adults and sit at the head.
I had told Charlie about the weirdo freak at the park on our car ride home and he told me not to worry about him. So I didn't. That probably wasn't the best advice Charlie had ever given me.
Everything was all fine and dandy through dinner. Desert was when things got crazy. My cousins and I were just telling our annual blonde jokes around the table when I heard the screen door open behind me and someone walked in.
I didn't think much about it because the door was behind me and I couldn't see who had walked in. I thought it was just one of my many family members coming in from outside.
I realized that things were sketchy when my dad stood up and facing the door said, "Can I help you?"
I turned around and standing there was 5 seriously huge guys. They were like freakishly muscular. I had no idea who any of them were except for the guy in the front. You'll never guess who that was... It was the guy from the park.
Everyone had stopped talking and were just staring at the strangers who were standing in my house. "Can I help you?" My dad repeated. This time my uncle stood up next to him and Charlie did also.
The weirdo-park guy in front was scanning the crowd of my family. When his eyes met mine he glared at me and then smirked. It really creeped me out.
Without moving his eyes away from mine Weirdo said, "We're going to need Madeline to come with us." My whole family looked over at me and all I managed was a confused look.
Weirdo moved to walk closer to me but Charlie moved over and blacked his path. The guy smiled at Charlie and said, "You're not going to want to do that man."
Charlie smiled back at him and said, "Try me."
Then the man pushed Charlie to try to get to me. Charlie stopped him by punching him in the face.
It was completely silent for a minute before the room erupted. The henchmen of Weirdo stormed into the house and there was screaming everywhere. Everyone stood up from their chairs and scrambled away from the fight breaking out.
I actually saw my mom punch a guy in the face and I saw all my cousins trying to find a way out of the house. I stood there frozen, confused and not knowing what to do.
Weirdo who had been fighting with Charlie had gotten one of his henchmen to team up with him against Charlie. Once he had transferred the fight with Charlie onto henchman #1 I saw him looking for me again.
I still had no idea what they wanted, but I did know I had to get away from them. Any person who starts a fight at my family Easter dinner is not someone I want anything to do with.
He found my eyes again and just glared at me. By that time I was freaking out. I was still in shock and hadn't moved even though I knew I should have been getting out of there. When I saw him starting to come toward me I think that snapped me out of my shock a little.
I tried to clear my head and find some way out of there but there wasn't any easy path. He was getting closer so I figured a not-easy way was better than none. So I dived under the table sliding on my knees. While sliding I ripped my stockings and felt my knees scuffing on the ground.
Once I was under the table I ran straight toward my room and locked the door behind me. I looked around frantically for a second and then my gaze fell on the Swiss army knife that was sitting on my bedside table.
I took my knife and shoved it down my bra. I started to look frantically around again for an escape route.
The window! I ran over to it and threw it opened. I was so happy that I had a room on the first floor or else this would have been much harder. As quick as I could I jumped out and shut the window behind me. I thought it would throw the guy off my scent for at least a second.
Once I was outside I hit the ground running. With all the adrenaline pumping through my veins I ran faster than I had ever before in my life.
I shot away from the house and street to the house that I knew Elijah, Caroline and Rebekah were in. The front door was locked but I knew they couldn't be anywhere else so I pounded my fist against it. When they didn't open after a minute I knew that I would have to hide before the men, who I could see fighting through a window in my house, figured out I was gone and came to try and find me.
I knew exactly where I was going to hide.
I lived on the water so behind every house there was a little beach. At the top of the street there was a dead end. A bunch of bushes completely his the beach there from view, you wouldn't know it was there unless you already did.
So I ran up the hill on the street as fast as I could. Once I got to the top I turned left and ran straight to the dead end sign. I sprinted right at the bushes there, right where I knew the opening was.
Once I made it through the bushes to the beach I tried to catch my breath. While I was panting I was trying to figure out what these people wanted from me. When I had met this guy at the park all he had done was said I had interesting eyes. Did he like want to gouge my eyes out or something?
I had about a minute to calm my breathing before I heard footsteps on the road. I immediately tried to quiet every breath even more.
"Maddy. I can hear you breathing." I heard the man's voice say. Wait, what the hell? How could he hear my breathing? He wasn't even that close yet.
I immediately covered my mouth to muffle my breathing. I was guessing that this man was a vampire seeing as he could hear me from that far away. But that didn't make sense; he didn't have to be invited into my house.
I pushed that thought to the back of my mind when he yelled out, "You're in a bright pink dress. It's obvious I will eventually find you."
I freaked out when he said that and looked down at my dress. Damn! It was really easy to see, but I still didn't think he would find me anytime soon. The pathway was really hard to find. I only knew where it was because I'd lived there my whole life.
I suddenly heard rustling in the bushes and my head shot up. 'He can't have found me!' I frantically thought to myself. I looked side to side to see if there was anywhere else for me to hide. All there was water behind me.
It looked like my only option to get away from the creep who was chasing me so I sucked it up that it was cold and dove in the water.
I swam as fast as I could to the nearest dock to hide behind it. My dress weighed me down so I didn't swim as fast as I usually could have. I had only made it behind the dock when I saw the guy walk onto the beach and look around.
He looked across the water. When he started to look left I put my head under water to try and hide from him. There was a giant splash about 5 seconds after I had gone under.
When I came up for air I kept my head ducked behind the dock. I was freezing. It was like negative one million thousand degrees, even though it was April, and I was in the water. It took all my self-control not to let my teeth chatter. That guy from before had been able to hear me panting from like 40 feet away. I didn't know if he was a vampire or what.
I peeked my head over the dock to see if he was swimming the other way or something because I hadn't heard him for a little while. I saw he wasn't swimming away. He wasn't even swimming.
He was on the opposite side of the dock in the water glaring at me. I let out the loudest scream I ever had in my life and turned to swim away. My stupid-ass dress was really weighing me down and as I turned it felt like slow motion.
I wasn't even completely turned around when I felt him grab one of my wrists from behind me. His grip was unbreakable. I pulled and pulled on my arm trying to get it away from him and started screaming, "Let go of me!" As I kept screaming and trying to pull my hand out of his grip I started to pound on his chest with my other hand.
Without saying a word he grabbed my other wrist in his hand. I was still screaming at him to let me go. I was in complete wonder why Caroline or Elijah hadn't heard me screaming by then. I didn't have many neighbors so that's why those people hadn't heard me screaming.
By that point my legs were getting really tired because they had to support my whole body in the water. As I grew more tired my attempts at pulling my hands from the man's grip grew weaker.
I suddenly heard footsteps on the dock and I looked up at whoever it was and screamed, "Help please!'' It took me a second to realize that it was one of this guy's henchmen. He was the one who had been fighting Charlie.
Just by seeing this guy my spirit suddenly depleted. If he was there that meant he had obviously won the fight against Charlie. I stopped fighting with the man holding my hands and stopped screaming. I figured if Caroline or Elijah had heard me they would have come by then.
"Finally." The guy holding me said. He looked over at the guy I started to call Henchman 1 and motioned with his head for him to come closer.
"I'm surprised no one came looking for her after all the ruckus she put up." He said and then turned back to me and said very mockingly, "It wasn't really worth our time or energy now was it?"
I swear if I could have reached the knife I had stuffed in my shirt I would have stabbed him. But, alas, I could not. I had to wait for another time.
Hench 1 said to me probably trying to make me angrier than I already was, "Your friend put up quite a fight back there. He'll probably remember that when he wakes up tomorrow." He meant Charlie. What had he done to Charlie?
I heard a gasp escape my lips at the news of Charlie but I tried to pull myself together and not freak out and cry. I didn't want to cry in front of these freaks that were kidnapping me and terrorizing my family for no reason.
"What do you want from me?" I suddenly asked them. I needed to know the reason they were doing this. It couldn't be a coincidence that I had met weirdo in the park today and then he just comes to kidnap me could it?
They both ignored me; the guy holding my hands turned to his accomplice and asked, "Did Dylan pull the car around?" Hench 1 nodded.
I tried again to pull my arms out of Weirdo's grip but I just felt his hands tighten. "I'm soaking wet right now because you made me jump into the water to find you." He said. "Don't make me angrier.
I made another attempt to pull my hands away from him and this time he turned to face me. "You're not going anywhere. Don't even try." Was he trying to compel me? Did that mean they were vampires?
I didn't even know what to think. Weirdo turned to Hench 1 and said, "Grab her hands while I climb onto the dock. I don't want to have to jump in and grab her again."
Hench 1 kneeled down on the dock and Weirdo held up my hands for him to grab. When they were transferring grips I made one last desperate attempt to pull my hands away. Not surprising me, it didn't work.
Remember how when I first saw these guys I said they were really muscular. Yeah, well they muscles have had some of those muscles in their hands. When I tried to escape again Weirdo squeezed my wrists together really hard. Just saying, it hurt really badly.
It felt like both of my wrists were going to break and I involuntarily let out a whimper of pain.
Once Weirdo was on the dock he shook his body causing water droplets to fly everywhere. After he was done acting like a dog he bent down and took one of my wrists from Hench 1.
Without saying a word they both stood up pulling me out of the water and onto the dock. I didn't even try to make a break for it. There was no point. I was going to ask them once again what they wanted but Hench 1 started talking before I could.
"You're sure she's the right girl?" He said to Weirdo.
"Yes look at her eyes."
Henchman 1 stooped down in front of me because he was like 6 feet tall. He stared into my eyes for a long time before starting to smile. When he stood up he looked at Weirdo and said, "I can't believe we're the ones who found her.''
'WTF?' I asked myself, 'Why did they want to find me?'
"Me either. We have to move though before the cops show up." Weirdo said. He pushed me and I stumbled forward because I hadn't been expecting it. Weirdo suddenly said from behind me, "Lead the way Charlie." And then he grabbed one of my arms.
I scowled that Hench 1's real name was Charlie. Charlie was a name reserved for my big brother who I loved, not some kidnapping Hench 1.
Weirdo pulled me along following Evil Charlie until we reached a huge black SUV. He opened the back door for me and motioned for me to go inside. Once again I didn't even bother trying to get away. I got in and saw the three other henchmen from the house were seated in the backseat. They stared at me as I got in. Creepy.
I sat down in one window seat and Weirdo sat down at the other. I really hoped that I would ruin their car with my wet clothes.
When Evil Charlie got in we were off, and I still had no idea why.
