This fire burns
I realise that nothing's as it seems

His eyes were glued to her. She was now not the only one battling an internal battle.

She laid still now, still only covered by her bottom undergarment. She laid staring at the fire ablaze and he wondered just what she was thinking.

He could not read her, but it seemed the cold water had helped her, it did nothing for him.

He could see the fire in her eyes and he found that it was within his too.

Then her eyes cut to him and laid there on her side.

"What are you thinking, Miko?" He found himself asking.

"I don't think, I only see."

He sat against the wall with one knee bent, shirt still gone.

"What do you see?" Their eyes locked.

"Many different things. Past, present future; pain, sorrow, love."

"Are you still fighting?"

"Always." She whispered.

The pain was still there.

"I want to feel something other than pain, my veins are on fire. I think that's why I seek your touch, to know that I am still here. That you're still real, that one day I will feel something other than this, that my dreams will one day stop hurting."

She sat up on one arm. "Even my own touch seems, unreal." She places a hand on her tummy.

"Maybe the power will take over me?"

She was numb, void, hardly there.

He moved sitting next to her, her facing him, him facing her. He reached out and ran a clawed hand down her hair, she closed her eyes and tried to hang onto the feeling.

Someone's touch, realness.

Then he ran his claw down her arm and goosebumps graced her skin, leaving a white line, she didn't hiss or move away.

"Do you feel it?"

"Yes."

"Does it not hurt?"

"No."

He pushed harder and she gasped, but it wasn't on of pain, no. Her pain inside was far greater than his touch, it was one of pleasure.

"It seems so real." She said.

His own struggle was reaching its limit, he wanted blood.

"I can smell your blood, Miko, as it rushes in your veins."

"I can feel it, as it moves." It was like hot scorching liquid; every beat of her heart was painful.

He pushed her hair back, "I wonder." He did, he wondered how it would taste, feel, smell.

He leaned in, his nose smelling her neck. Her blood was so close, but he felt as if he couldn't touch it. She didn't move, but to only bend her neck, pleading with him to take it.

His hand went behind her neck to hold her still and then he bit down.

Her back arched in pure pleasure, not pain. She could feel her blood rushing to him, being drained, it was like he was stealing her pain for himself, allowing her to feel again.

She moaned, and he made a noise within his throat.

It should have hurt like hell, she should have screamed, but she didn't.

He felt blood rush his mouth, it was as hot as she described, burning him yet not. Her power popping like tiny sparks in his mouth and the smell had his eyes burning red.

He pulled away to look at her, her eyes locked with his.

"It feels-" She didn't finish, her eyes looked down at his blood-stained mouth.

She slowly leaned in and licked her blood from his jaw, ever so slowly.

"Your blood lies."

"Does it?" She whispered.

"It wants your pain, my pain."

"Your pain," She said. "No." Her eyes closed. "It does lie then."

She opened them and looked at his red eyes, "Nothing is what it seems." She stated.

"What do you see?" He asked.

"Something that you never wanted, a fire you wish nothing more than to kill."

She was right, nothing was as it seemed. "Is that what you see, Miko, or what you saw?"

"Forever is a long time." She said. "I don't want to be alone, but I don't want falsehood."

"Then you will not accept the wolf."

"Then who should I accept?" Fear rose in her, "I am not dumb, I know I can't live in my childish dreams forever. This jewel, its power, it taunts me. I know- I know I have to seek control."

"You are not weak."

"But you are stronger."

"You cannot be controlled."

"It wants it."

"The question, Miko, is do you?"
